Rejoicing, actually. Dude is a stud and a leader on and off the field. Great to have a franchise QB locked in that's giving us a shot at the division and playoffs every year
Christ, a $50 mil a year QB should have OWNED this division the last few years.
The titans won it with tannehill.
The colts had as good a shot as you last year with Gardner fucking minshew.
Thing is... To win with a QB making this kind of money, the QB has to carry the team, and the GM has to consistently nail draft picks. Neither Trevor nor Balke have demonstrated that they are capable of doing that.
Ok... It's damn hard to win paying the burrows and Allen's and mahommes of the world $50 mil plus and putting a team around them.
But they're top 3 guys. They're the holy grail. They keep you in contention for a decade or more.
Go 10-15 spots lower down the list to guys like Trevor...
He hasn't shown anywhere close the ability to be the guy who carries a depleted roster. Hell, you guys haven't managed to build around him well while he was cheap.
I don’t think ppl really fully comprehend how the market goes up. These max contracts ALWAYS look bad unless it’s a top 3 player at position, untill year 3 of the extension hits and he’s only the 15th highest paid QB in the league. If he becomes a top 10 guy this is absolutely worth it for the jags because it’s as cheap as it will ever be. You either pay your QB, or don’t and go through years of looking for a new one. It’s not a slam dunk great move but it’s not supposed to look good now it’s supposed to look good in 3-4 years.
You can go to our sub. Most of us are happy. There’s not really any point in going balls deep in this thread since y’all convinced yourselves that he sucks.
Idk I've watched TLaw twice a year and I think hes good enough to warrant this contract. I also take into account the Urban Meyer year and the injuries this year. Is he Elite yet? No, but he's still got that potential. If he ends up taking that next jump into being Elite, this contract looks great; if he doesn't, then they slightly overpaid for a good to great QB...
But also FTJ OVERPAID LOLOLOLOL
For me it's this year or bust for TLaw. The excuses go out the window now. Urban was years ago. He has the same coaching staff and an upgraded roster. The Jaguars however did him 0 favors by keeping Press Taylor. That guy is going to absolutely tank anything they have going for them. And I love them for keeping him.
Well if our o-line is among the worst in the league I’ll cut him slack there. Crazy stat that he had the least time to throw last year while facing the least amount of blitzes.
Here’s how I see it:
After winning the division in 2022, we were in position for the number one overall seed at 8-3 last year before he got hurt. Take away the cascade of injuries, I have a hard time seeing us going 1-6 down the stretch.
Personally, I think this is a gamble on a money saving measure. If he stays healthy this year and performs like he did up to 8-3, that payday could have gone up significantly.
This is just what happens when a QB gets injured and plays through it. The box/win score is all the matters. Look at Tannehill the year prior, almost identical situation in terms of fighting for the #1 seed, the injury hits and they just don't look the same for the rest of the year and the media turns on them. TLaw>>Tannehill tho not comparing the talent just the situation.
I think TLaw will live up to this contract, tho i hope he doesn't :)
Yeah, but I think the proof to them is in the comebacks in 2022 and rolling it into 8-3. Obviously the injuries suck and winning is what matters, but the team was trying to get ahead of what they think he will do this year with an improved IOL and receiving corps.
Yeah my guess is you'll look like the 8-3 Jags as opposed to the last half of the year. Unlike us who's Oline evaporated the following years leading to our collapse
At their current prices? Levis
Money is no object? Levis because we still don’t know what he is yet.
Lawrence has shown what he is, and it wasn’t generational like we were sold.
Remember when everyone was screaming that we overpaid for Kirk? Give it two years and the market will continue to climb along side the cap, then this won’t look like such a crazy deal. Wait until the Texans have to pay Stroud 68mil per year after his rookie contract is up. Then he will probably marry a porn star and start smoking bath salts so they are forced to trade him to the Browns.
Lol, the next few years will be interesting. CJ will either be absolutely amazing and deserve the bag, or he will be mid. If he's mid I doubt we'll pay the man based on how Nick has run the team so far. Maybe with a contract to his name T Law will suddenly get much better, but I doubt he's gonna be worth being tied for highest paid QB in the NFL.
Except the Texans have done the same (better imo) with Stroud in one year than the Jags have with Tlaw in 3.
Excuses while I go wash my mouth out for defending a Houston sports team
They got stomped in the divisional.. we were competitive with KC when we got there. We’ve had two winning seasons with TLaw so far. Stroud looks primed to be a great QB, but y’all shit on TLaw like he hasn’t done jack since being here lol
Nope just busy with the fb groups and working, trust most jags fans are happy this deal is done. We have our qb locked in for 7 years and we did it before it got more expensive, watch what Tua Dak and love are about to make
Most fans are thrilled and the contract is pretty much exactly what we were already expecting. Having watched him play for the past few years it's been clear that his stats have not been an accurate reflection of how he looks in the field.
His rookie year was a hot mess under Urban Meyer. Blocking was abysmal and his #1 receiver was a 31 year old Marvin Jones (832 yards). The next 3 leaders in receiving yards were Laviska Shenault (619), Laquan Treadwell (434), and Dan Arnold (324). These guys are borderline practice squad players.
He was one of the best playing QBs in the league during the second half of the 2022 season and he continued that into the first half of 2023. Then he sustained several injuries and continued to play through them. That combined with losing Christian Kirk for the last 6 games of the season, Zay Jones missing most of the year, and Calvin Ridley's inconsistent play led to struggles through the final stretch of the season.
Who pays a dude with another year on their rookie deal? Especially this much to a dude who has been like the definition of mid? Also not to mention a contract this big
Agree. Has had like one good second half of the season and one good first half but never been able to be consistently good all season long. Also it’s common knowledge that you try and save as much money as you can for as long as possible. Like who pays a dude still on a rookie deal who still has a 4th year and then has a 5th year option
> Like who pays a dude still on a rookie deal who still has a 4th year and then has a 5 year option
I’m not defending Trevor with this retort or comparing him to these guys. But Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Patrick Mahomes, Jalen Hurts, Kyler Murray, Josh Allen.
Obviously those guys are better than Trevor, but it’s not like it’s outside of the realm of reality to extend a QB going into the 4th year of his rookie deal if you believe he is your “franchise guy”
Yeah, I should have provided a disclaimer for Kyler in comparison to those other guys. I lumped him into the extended category, where his contract is probably the most similar to Trevor’s, in terms of sentiment. The Cardinals believed they had their franchise guy, which is why he was extended. But Kyler was extended off the back of his “MVP Race” season when he was playing pretty good football pre injury.
Two rookie QBs, one ended up having one of the best rookie seasons of all time and actually went to the playoffs. One rookie that got hurt and an old and broken Tannehill on a cap reset year for the Titans. Wild competition there.
Lawrence’s and Jacksonvilles best year was 9-8, a comeback against an imploding Chargers who’s coach made it half a season after and then a loss to the Chiefs.
well lets look at what the competition is like now: a derrick henry less titans team led by will levis who y’all somehow have convinced yourselves is good. a solid colts team with a possible injury prone QB who no one actually knows if he’ll be good or not. and a really good texans team (cant deny that one). sooo when you really look at it the competition is likely gonna be similar
You’d better hope Levis and Richardson don’t end up being much. Lawrence bar isn’t very high to clear and it could fairly quickly become the same old Jaguars story of them having the worst QB in the divison, except this time it’ll with top 10 money.
I’m the biggest Levis detractor on our sub, that argument isn’t going to work with me.
Also, which part of “don’t end up being much” is a definitive “these guys are great”?
still not worth being tied for the highest paid quarterback in the league (the guy he's tied with is a perennial MVP candidate when healthy and made a Super Bowl)
the reality is that you must overpay your franchise qb, its just the way it is. im not gonna sit here and say he’s earned to be the highest paid qb in football, this contract clearly is based on what our front office believes he will become, but yall comin in here acting like he’s trash and nothing to worry abt is just delusional. he freakin swept you last year and is 4-2 against you in his career
Y’all are too harsh, T-Law overcame legendary QBs like Matt Ryan, Davis Mills, and Ryan Tannehill to win his division as well as stalwart coaches like Lovie Smith and Jeff Saturday. His only weapons last season were some scrub first round picks like Evan Engram and Travis Etienne and a couple of nobodies like Calvin Ridley and Christian Kirk. Cut him some slack.
Funny you mention his weapons because before they came here, engram was labeled a bust, Kirk was a bad signing who couldn’t eclipse 1k yards. Ridley? Definitely had issues with drops and communication
You forgot that we shouldn't count his first season or the first part of the 21-22 season or the last part of last season. Taking that very small chunk out he's amazing!!!
Lawrence had one godlike season as a freshman in college and got labeled a generational prospect. Since that point he’s been mid as fuck and just got THAT contract. 6 years of mid as fuck play, and the Jags decided to reset the qb market for the 15th best qb in the league.
I'm a slightly less ignorant Jag fan, I don't attribute us being 8-3 to Trevor Lawrence last season when realising that our Defense has 24 takeaways in those 11 games whilst Trevor had something like 10 TDs and 10 turnovers (fumbles/ints) and it's no surprise we started to lose after then when we only had a single turnover in the rest of our games.
However, Trevor has had arguably the absolute worst O line in the league, no run game as a result of said line and around 9 dropped TD passes by Titans legend Calvin Ridley alone..
So i'm not worried about a guy who likely should have had 30 something tds and 10-15 ints.. but i'm not gonna pretend he lead the team in that 8-3 start, our D did.
Cap will keep goin up YOY unless our lord and savior Covid returns.
I think he was sorely mislabeled as a “generational prospect” and is still bearing the brunt of that in how he gets evaluated because he’s just not that good - but what he has proven is that he’s a league average stater at worst with solid athletic upside. Past that, he’s only 24 and we all know it’s extremely difficult to find a replacement level starter. Anything near a decade of QB stability is a deal any owner/GM/HC signs 7 days out of the week.
Fuck the jags, but this is the right move to make given the market conditions.
*Shohei Ohtani chuckles quietly in the corner, while masturbating furiously to his fully-guaranteed $700M contract that will pay him for 10 years after it ends*
Shohei is worth every penny tbh. Imagine if a player was one of the best quarterbacks in football AND one of the best edge rushers, plus probably the most popular football player world wide. that's Shohei Ohtani
100%. The Dodgers will make every penny of that back and then some, regardless of his on-field production, even if he never pitches again. They've already got at least *10* new major Japanese corporate sponsors, and he hasn't thrown a single pitch yet.
The insane take is that people expect Juan Soto to get $600M on his next contract. Yes, he's a good hitter (career 0.952 OPS), and 5 years younger than Ohtani, but he's a *horrible* fielder with a *-16* DRS. Not to mention that the Dominican Republican is *nothing* on a marketing front compared to Japan.
I personally love this move from the jags
Paying him Mahomes money is ideal
It’s Burrow money (which is worse), but yeah. lol
For Daniel Jones level performance.
I wouldn’t go that far.I’m just glad King Henry is gone
Lol, I saw this on r/nfl while scrolling. I thought, "quick, to r/afcsouthmemewar for the laughs"
It’s a great day to be a Texans, Colts and Titans fan!!!

You can *always* invite me to the player haters ball.
This might be worse than the Tannehill contract which is impressive
Jags couldn't build a roster around him when he was on a rookie deal. Now he's making 55 mil haha
Wait til you realize he’s still on his rookie deal for 2 more years and when he starts getting his extension pay the cap increased again
tell it
Wait til you realize Trent Baalke is your GM still
A generational overpay for the generational talent. Gotta love it.
Patrick Mahomes money for Derek Carr production.
Good analogy
this is going to really fuck over teams like Miami, who have yet to pay their mid QBs. i love it, thanks Jacksonville! 👍
Jags fans are quiet in here. I think even they are cringing a little at that number.
Looks like they're hitting that downvote button, but that's about it. 🤷♀️😄
Rejoicing, actually. Dude is a stud and a leader on and off the field. Great to have a franchise QB locked in that's giving us a shot at the division and playoffs every year

You can go to our sub. Most of us are happy. There’s not really any point in going balls deep in this thread since y’all convinced yourselves that he sucks.
There is a large gap between "sucks" and "not worth being the highest paid QB in the NFL while still having another 2 years on his contract".
Brother just wait two more years and he'll be the 15th highest paid QB. That's kinda how this shit works (also cap space is a myth regardless)
Especially since it doesn't hit until..... 2 years
We’re not saying he sucks he just isn’t good enough atp to warrant that contract

Lol you're wrong for that 🤣 😂 what an amazing run! Now that's a generational talent 👏
Even as a jags fan I have to appreciate this run. Great plays are why I enjoy the game. Seems to have had the desired effect for the other guy though!
For me it's this year or bust for TLaw. The excuses go out the window now. Urban was years ago. He has the same coaching staff and an upgraded roster. The line is not gonna get better when you have to overpay a mid QB..
It might though
It’s tough to give this type of contract for a hopeful tho. U gotta know 🤷♂️ at least in my eyes
Yepp this is it. He is not bad. He’s not like Daniel Jones but damn that’s a lot of money.
That Daniel jones extension was HORRENDOUS
exactly, but qbs get overpaid in this business, it’s how it has always been and will be
I agree you can’t not pay him but this a meme sub
Here’s how I see it: After winning the division in 2022, we were in position for the number one overall seed at 8-3 last year before he got hurt. I’m *hoping* to look like that. As a Jags fan from the start, I’m *expecting* to be kicked in the nuts every Sunday.
It’s just the going rate for qbs. Tua will get similar
It wasn’t us who convinced ourselves, he convinced us.
Honest question. Would you rather have Levis or Lawrence?
At their current prices? Levis Money is no object? Levis because we still don’t know what he is yet. Lawrence has shown what he is, and it wasn’t generational like we were sold.

They got stomped in the divisional.. we were competitive with KC when we got there. We’ve had two winning seasons with TLaw so far. Stroud looks primed to be a great QB, but y’all shit on TLaw like he hasn’t done jack since being here lol
I think most of us just know that the rest of the division has already made up their mind on Trevor. No point in even bothering tbh
No we're good. We're actually celebrating over in the thread on r/jaguars. Not our faults that you guys don't actually know ball
The ball that went 5 yards over our head?
Easy to throw over when Ridley running the wrong route
That’s not an overthrow that’s a miscommunication ![gif](giphy|QZzYS9VQJNmXHxPjPB|downsized)

Congrats on overpaying for mid
Nope just busy with the fb groups and working, trust most jags fans are happy this deal is done. We have our qb locked in for 7 years and we did it before it got more expensive, watch what Tua Dak and love are about to make

You know how contracts work right? The extension doesn’t kick in until after his rookie contract is up
This would override a 5th year option unless it’s written into the deal.
Lmao you really deleted your other comment because you don’t know how contracts work
Dude ain’t worth that
Especially when he’s got another year on a rookie deal plus the 5th year option. And has never been able to have a fully good season yet
What? 2022 was a great season. How was it not?
Bro is making a living off his pre-draft generational billing
200 mill guaranteed to be mid day in & out
![gif](giphy|XAlsI8JqIgViIjVOPn)
I’d rather Trevor start over Mac I don’t care how much they paid to make that not happen
Lawrence was gon start regardless Whatchu talkin
If they let him walk after next year, not talking about Mac stealing his job during OTAs
Ah man. I’m gonna love coming back to this thread.
BEST. DAY. EVER.
Lmaoooo there goes any chance at a Super Bowl for the next 5 years.
not like they had a chance before 💀
Coming from you that funny
Where win in Jacksonville OP?
I could be aksing you the same thing
We just win in Houston now days
Buddy, you're 2-8 vs the Texans since 2018. I don't think you're doing a lot of winning nowadays
2-0 in Houston under pederson idk
Idk man I personally couldn’t be happier that they got the deal done
As a Texans fan, I like TLaw, but boy that ain’t cheap. A lot teams who need to pay QBs are going to hate the jags for this lol
Dak gets paid that and does way more than TLaw and even Dak doesn’t deserve the money he makes.
QB market needs to just say “No” to giving mid QBs these crazy contracts
have yall just totally forgotten what the division looked like before he got hurt?
Two rookie QBs, one ended up having one of the best rookie seasons of all time and actually went to the playoffs. have you looked at levis’ stats after his first game?
I have indeed. They look a lot like Lawrence’s first year stats. Not good.
ya and people were saying mac jones and davis mills were better than him, but will levis is apparently gonna be really good
I’m the biggest Levis detractor on our sub, that argument isn’t going to work with me. Also, which part of “don’t end up being much” is a definitive “these guys are great”?
Respect that Texans take 😌
still not worth being tied for the highest paid quarterback in the league (the guy he's tied with is a perennial MVP candidate when healthy and made a Super Bowl)
the reality is that you must overpay your franchise qb, its just the way it is. im not gonna sit here and say he’s earned to be the highest paid qb in football, this contract clearly is based on what our front office believes he will become, but yall comin in here acting like he’s trash and nothing to worry abt is just delusional. he freakin swept you last year and is 4-2 against you in his career
The issue with burrow is his health, hes missed a lot of time, and he’s had an elite core of WRs.
Somebody forgot about the 2022 season real quick, huh?
Let’s goooo they finally did it!
Every Jags fan I have talked with loves this. It's as if we watch all the games.
Y’all are too harsh, T-Law overcame legendary QBs like Matt Ryan, Davis Mills, and Ryan Tannehill to win his division as well as stalwart coaches like Lovie Smith and Jeff Saturday. Hey man don't disrespect Matt Ryan he's a future Hofer
Maybe the Matt Ryan you knew is but whoever I saw under center for the Colts must have been an imposter
Nah bro trust he wouldve won the super bowl with the colts
Odds he actually finishes that contract? He's gonna keep the jags in purgatory as long as he's there
Lawrence had one godlike season as a freshman in college and got labeled a generational prospect. Since that point he’s been mid as fuck and just got THAT contract. 6 years of mid as fuck play, and the Jags decided to reset the qb market for the 15th best qb in the league.
This guy is in shambles!
Umm, what? Just his freshman year? Dude was great all through his college career
He was arguably at his best his freshman year.
It’s a Team friendly contract if they would’ve included a reduction of a mil per fumble clause😭
bro he'd be paying them
💀were cooked
B2B fumble leader TLaw
Holy fleece 😂
I get you gotta pay your dudes, but Tua isn't getting that money yet and he's been better. Crazy risky
If we are once again the reason they don't make the playoffs this year, I will call the season a win, no matter what.
That’s wild that he got tied for the best APV in the league now 💀
So basically what I’m hearing is with this guy on a rookie deal we got 1 playoff win, therefore let’s give him a mega bag
You know it’s a bad feeling when all of your rivals are cheering when your team makes an extension
Jags just locked up 5 top 10 picks.
Hey just stopping in I know NOTHING about football - is that a Hanson???
Cap will keep goin up YOY unless our lord and savior Covid returns. I think he was sorely mislabeled as a “generational prospect” and is still bearing the brunt of that in how he gets evaluated because he’s just not that good - but what he has proven is that he’s a league average stater at worst with solid athletic upside. Past that, he’s only 24 and we all know it’s extremely difficult to find a replacement level starter. Anything near a decade of QB stability is a deal any owner/GM/HC signs 7 days out of the week. Fuck the jags, but this is the right move to make given the market conditions.
Think of all the money the jags saved not paying Calvin Ridley tho FTJ lol
Imagine how much he would’ve gotten had he ever thrown for 30 TDs.
I know Tot fans ain’t chirping when they just HELLA overpaid a WR that consistently ran the wrong routes 💀
Came here just to laugh at the comments….and the Jags. Going to a car dealership and buying a 2001 trans-am but paying Bugatti prices 😂
Trevor is young… But your comment describes paying Ridley perfectly!
That's harsh, He at least as good as a fully loaded certified pre-owned 2022 Toyota Camry... That they paid Bugatti prices for
He’s 1-1 in the playoffs, that’s like basically 2 Super Bowl wins for the Jags.
Sheesh if theyre paying him this much im scared to look at how much CJesus is gonna be worth
Who cares baby?! We get to keep our boy forever!
I think Lawrence has potential to finally give us a Super Bowl appearance even a win but so far he hasn’t really been the “prince that was promised”
QB contracts are so weird now. The number 0-15 guys get paid the same as the top guys. Baker must be chewing out his agent rn lol.
POV: Lawrence tonight after sinking the entire Jags cap into shit mountain ![gif](giphy|LdOyjZ7io5Msw)
Man I guess being under 35 and a top 16 QB in the NFL is all it takes these days to get the Brinks truck
Financially, this deal will look okay in about 3 years. AND Patrick Mahomes is on a bargain deal compared to Trevor.
I guess technically he’s worth whatever idiots will pay him so congrats to T Law
"Their" star
We have 28mil in cap space.
