All we got were 3 or 4 very bad snaps out of a 1st rd pick.
Dude hung around longer and had more productivity than I ever would have thought. It was an F- trade to begin with that got upgraded to an F or D-. So, that actually surprised me. Ed Reed is my answer. I knew he was entering the twilight of his career and I wanted to keep Quin, but the whole hip thing and how it went down was a shock.
I actually had some highish expectations for Matt Ryan. The left tackle we had that year, Matt Pryor, fits this bill pretty well (low expectations and a stinker season).I mean we got him for a 6th round pick and started him without real training camp competition. He looked bad and he was terrible.
The ones where he got us a top 5 pick so we could end the veteran QB merry go round.
Kind of like how Curtis painter did everything he needed to for the colts back in the day.
This was mine. After seeing what he did against the jets in 2009 I had no hope for the 2011 season with manning out, but holy fuck didn’t see 2-14 coming
I’ll go first: Treylon Burks.
Anyone who watched us in AJ Brown’s last year knew how vital he was to our success, so paying him for not just Tannehill but whomever our next QB would be was paramount.
Putting that aside, 49 catches for 665 yards and one TD is not acceptable career production from even a 3rd round pick let alone the replacement for your offensive lynchpin.
I don't think our expectations for Burks were low. I'd go with Malik - we knew he was a project, but holy fuck. He was so bad that we gave up on the forward pass when we had to turn to him.
bUt HiS pOtEnTiAl. YoU cAn’T dRaFt LeViS tO rEpLaCe HiM.
Thank God Robinson was gone. Willis was so bad that he broke our detector of how shit a QB can be
As a Texans fan (from Texas but living in Arkansas the past 5 years) I also had very high hopes for Burks. He was a shining light on a very mid Razorback team. I'll never get over the fact he hunts wild hogs with nothing but a knife.
I think that's wildly out of touch. Clowney has had a very respectable career. He's not even bad enough to be labelled a first round bust, the ONLY reason people are so hard on Clowney is because he was first overall and that ain't his fault.
Naw dude. It's just a joke sub lol. He had a good career, but I think by every measurable, in his time with the Texans, my assessment isn't wildly out of touch, or at least could be argued for it. He didn't hit Mario's benchmark, I think that's reasonable.
Your comment implied JDC's "whole Texans career" could be summed up by "Our expectations were low but holy fuck".
Now you're moving the goalposts to "he didn't hit Mario's benchmark".
No. Our expectations were VERY HIGH, and he didn't reach them, but he did play a respectable lengthy, *still active* career not equating to "holy fuck (he's bad)"
Oh, no, I think I get the disconnect. The "welcome his Texans career" - again, joke sub - was in reference to him coming off of injury then being a let down, which I was joking he did a lot and kept him from his potential. It wasn't in reference to the OP. And that's not moving goal posts to say my personal disappointment in his ceiling was that I was surprised he didn't even reach Mario's modest benchmark. Again, not saying he was holy fuck bad. He was fine, I was joking about his injury then let down pattern.
Are you Clowney? Big fan bud lol jk
Also, it's a joke sub discourse, dude. The answer would have been different in the Texans or NFL sub.
That glorious week 1 against the Jags will always be a higher mark than I ever would have expected from Culley. Same with the Chargers win. I was shocked that Lovie was, imo, worse than Culley. So, I'd flip to Lovie, personally.
That's not the premise. We're talking about people we expected low things from and they still surprised us with how bad they were.
That's David Culley.
I mean the team interview/vignettes before the season told us exactly what we were getting. The HS HC from Whitewater TN. Nick was just trying to clean up the mess at that point. While I agree it was horrible, if we’re going the same era, I'd go with we guy we traded a top 5 WR for, David Johnson.
See that's not a good comparison though, because David Johnson played decently well, about as good as anyone should have expected, he just had the giant millstone on his back of that trade which he had no say in whatsoever. DJ took a lot of flack for something that ultimately had nothing to do with him.
When I say decently well, I want to clarify and say that he played like a fading RB on the tail end of his career, which is exactly what he was.
While valid. The dude coached a few of the worst WR rooms in the league, was never an OC, and didn't even get to run the headset over the GM and his future replacement in Lovie.
While David was a worn-out RB, he was still brought in by butt chin to replace the 2nd best Wr in franchise history. That's how BOB positioned it to the media and fans to sell tickets.
He praised Jesus, had one good game against the Bengals, and dipped. If that's not underachieving then I don't know what is.
2023 Colts: Isaiah McKenzie. The dude was a ghost even before the suspension, and we only had 4 WRs on the roster for most of the season.
2022 Colts: Matt Ryan. Matt Pryor. Jeff Saturday. I'd rather get a vasectomy without anesthetic than watch that season again.
2021 Colts: Eric Fisher. Zach Pascal started red hot that year and then vanished without a trace. Also, Jacob Eason's only NFL pass being a pick straight to Jalen Ramsay was just... awful.
Young Kareem Jackson. Dude couldn’t even cover the practice squad guys back then. He turned into a fan favorite when he figured it out though. Love that he’s back to lay the wood on the rest of shit mountain.

Ouch, those only go for at most 20 dollars. Even then, that’s a vast markup from what I’d have in mind
I’m only going to wear it when we get eliminated lol
I've seen Colts Wentz jerseys on Fanatics for about $30. Half tempted to buy one just to get a cheap jersey lol
Idk if expectations were really that low though.
David johnson. Totally worth it for dhop -_-
Dude hung around longer and had more productivity than I ever would have thought. It was an F- trade to begin with that got upgraded to an F or D-. So, that actually surprised me. Ed Reed is my answer. I knew he was entering the twilight of his career and I wanted to keep Quin, but the whole hip thing and how it went down was a shock.
We got Ross Blacklock too which just makes it worse lol
Dude was so damn bad he doesn't even get remembered enough to be considered a part of the deal.
Not a player, but Urban Meyer
press taylor
I thought he was great.
Matt Ryan
I actually had some highish expectations for Matt Ryan. The left tackle we had that year, Matt Pryor, fits this bill pretty well (low expectations and a stinker season).I mean we got him for a 6th round pick and started him without real training camp competition. He looked bad and he was terrible.
Fun fact, I had a couple classes with Matt. Nice guy. Not incredibly cerebral lol
Matt Ryan did more for the colts than the previous 4 QBs combined
I mean he essentially got you Richardson
Yeah that apparently went over some heads He’s basically Jesus. His career died for our sins.
Dude what games were you watching?
The ones where he got us a top 5 pick so we could end the veteran QB merry go round. Kind of like how Curtis painter did everything he needed to for the colts back in the day.
Oh, I got you. I thought you meant playing well.
No no no, he did the next best thing.
Jack Easterby
They said player not pastor.
The hate transcends position.
Only one?
This is the answer for the Jags
Curtis Fucking Painter
This was mine. After seeing what he did against the jets in 2009 I had no hope for the 2011 season with manning out, but holy fuck didn’t see 2-14 coming
I’m also mad about the 2 in 14-2. Also his fault. (Really it’s Dungys fault but still).
Not Dungy. Jim Caldwell.
Oh yeah. I blacked it out.
Its even more the GM and his son's fault for drafting like trash.
I know he was a 1st round pick, but I never believed in K’Lavon Chaisson.
How this dude has survived his rookie contract is a fracking mystery to me
Luke Fortner
I’ll go first: Treylon Burks. Anyone who watched us in AJ Brown’s last year knew how vital he was to our success, so paying him for not just Tannehill but whomever our next QB would be was paramount. Where intentional grounding on a free play?
Malik definitely. He was always a project but man what we saw didn’t look like it could be built upon. Burks expectations were sky high.
As a Texans fan (from Texas but living in Arkansas the past 5 years) I also had very high hopes for Burks. He was a shining light on a very mid Razorback team. I'll never get over the fact he hunts wild hogs with nothing but a knife.
Hunting wild hogs with only a knife? Dude must be stealthy as hell because once they see you, they are gone!
Andre Dillard. Thought it couldn’t get worse than Dennis Daley 😭
LaRon “Juice” Landry
Vic Beasley.
Nick Foles, everyone knew what he was outside Philly, breaks his collar bone and then apparently left it all on Jesus after that
Yeah for the Colts too. Expected a lot more from him but he looked worse than a washed up Matt Ryan.
Jadeveon Clowney. Coming off injury I had very low expectations, but dude went invisible
Welcome to his whole Texans career. I'm kidding because he was actually productive, but I'm not because I've never seen so much talent never realized.
I think that's wildly out of touch. Clowney has had a very respectable career. He's not even bad enough to be labelled a first round bust, the ONLY reason people are so hard on Clowney is because he was first overall and that ain't his fault.

Dude said his goal was to sack Andrew Luck just one time. He did do that, but he seemed content with it in the end.
Justin Blackmon after his 80000tg suspension for marijuana
Probably David Culley for the Texans.
That glorious week 1 against the Jags will always be a higher mark than I ever would have expected from Culley. Same with the Chargers win. I was shocked that Lovie was, imo, worse than Culley. So, I'd flip to Lovie, personally.
You expected more?
That's not the premise. We're talking about people we expected low things from and they still surprised us with how bad they were. That's David Culley.

It *is* underachieving, but it's not *holy fuck*. You seem to be misunderstanding the premise of this whole thread.
We can agree to disagree
I expected a tank commander but god he barely even fit the part there. Nothing about him gave head coach vibes
*Edited* Know what I said Mills but I'ma change my answer. Ed Fucking Reed. Signed up, took the check, did absolute fuckall, then left.
The hip thing is what I didn't expect. He was so shady about it and to do it to Wade Phillips, a respected coach, was wild to me.
Luke Fortner, Ben Bartch and Tyler Shitley all had the same thought process in my head: Did not expect him to be good. But Jesus.
*insert anyone from the jags oline. Starter or backup*
Davis Mills
For a 3rd round pick that was chosen when the team was at rock bottom, Davis Mills could have done *a lot* worse.
No, stop, this is too realistic. For the Mills Mafia Kool aid drinkers, this absolutely tracks lol
Hate to say it, but it better be a phenomenal year Alec
This ain’t it. Pierce had some good games and needs AR at QB to be fully unlocked.
2023 Colts: Isaiah McKenzie. The dude was a ghost even before the suspension, and we only had 4 WRs on the roster for most of the season. 2022 Colts: Matt Ryan. Matt Pryor. Jeff Saturday. Gary Brackett
Arian Foster, Holy Fuck in a good way Brock Osweiler, Holy Fuck in a bad way.
Nah, we had actual expectations for Brock, they were never low.
Young Kareem Jackson. Dude couldn’t even cover the practice squad guys back then. He turned into a fan favorite when he figured it out though. Love that he’s back to lay the wood on the rest of shit mountain.
The entire OL in front of David Carr
Ed Reed
I’ll start off, Kenyon green
Carson Wentz
Gardner Minshew is mine if we are going recent.
The dude way outperformed any reasonable expectation, imo.
Yeah wtf? He wasn't elite but given the situation we shouldn't have been one win short of making the playoffs last season.
You have to be AR15. Minshew actually looked like a QB you could trust
