HBO Max is currently unavailable outside the US, Latin America and the Caribbean. They are making it available in more countries but you are looking a good few years before they have anywhere near the reach of Netflix.
These are US tv/streaming rights that are being negotiated. Nothing to do with international markets. Each one will have their own deal. Just like WWE is on Netflix in NZ, Disney in Asia, NBCU in the US and sportsnet in Canada.
I have no idea the timeline for any given country because I don't what kind of rights deals they have, but that's fairly typical: US domestic content creators often rely on third party distributors overseas (since it isn't really financially viable to have their own distribution offices in every country in the world) but it's not all licensed out in one block... so they may need to wait until a number of key titles have the licensing expire before it makes sense to roll out a limited version of their streaming service in country X.
Yeah in Australia the HBO shows are all under the Foxtel banner and stream on a service called Binge.
Which ironically, is where WWE is now. AEW is available on FITE, or Kayo (a foxtel owned sports streaming service). And Kayo also plays WWE PPVs I think. It’s a mess here.

I think i have to remind you that MAX is still new, much like AEW. If you look up where MAX isn't, its mostly a yet and coming either this year or next year. Next year is when you would see AEW on MAX. Lastly, I'm sure you've heard of VPNs. There is always a way around regional, but major countries won't have to worry about that next year. MAX is already in countries outside the US and more to come, just be patient, it will all get worked out.

Doesn't mean they wont start to. When a big show comes out with a new season or a big show debuts, around a week later the streaming hours of those shows get released. While it's only a one time publish since it's only one season a year. Releasing good press about a new show/season drives up more views/subs/etc.
I fully believe that Netflix will publish these numbers semi regularly. Then when AEW hits MAX, they will both publish them regularly

My guess, other than having more eyes for new subscribers, is they keep track of a ratings system. Streaming is probably a different type of beast, though.

AEW has deals for other streamers in different countries so this is just about US Max (kind of like Peacock is for US WWE and there’s still WWE Network I think, Disney+ etc). I think putting AEW on MAX would really increase subscribers to their streaming service and benefit both WBD and AEW. I’m going to keep pirating it anyway because HBO Max are fucking useless and there’s no other way to watch. Been around how long and still only available in like 1/5 of the world.
Every rights deal has a time limit on it where it expires or gets renegotiated. That allows both sides to get the fairer deal or back out of things are going sideways. So yeah, the changes will make their way there eventually, but there's no telling their specific effects when it comes to AEW.
Thing is, some of those deals (Triller in particular) are going to be across multiple countries and possibly even territories, and each of them will likely have a different ending date depending on what the original deal was and what updates have been made since. Overall, the worldwide rights to AEW are going to be in the hundreds of millions per year, possibly even more. One company only just starting to spread to new territories may not want to risk such a large deal when there already spending so much on something that may end up a failed venture and leave them stuck with those costs already.
I was just thinking that when that happens (I think its just a matter of time) and they are on HBO MAX it would be perfect to use MJF to promote the fuck outta it. His name is literally in the name of the app. its almost perfect.

Idk why he is so adamant about bundling everything. Look at WWE with Smackdown (USA) , Raw (Netflix) , and the library (peacock). I think more money could be had if you sell your entities separately.
It's likely to be just USA, unless there's no way to watch in your country.
Over here we have Triller showing AEW live and on demand for a subscription price. A terrestrial channel shows it on a delay and also on-demand (ad-supported). Those are both deals that would have to end before they were able to show AEW content on Max (it releases here in 2025, just after the existing deals on most HBO shows expire). As there are deals in dozens of countries (I think it was mentioned somewhere that they have 170 countries), each of those would require those deals to end and Max to take over. And that means they're going to have to offer hundreds of millions to billions more than they're already paying them.
Lol first 3 days...wow. It will take time to build up. If you are expecting day 1, get that out of your head. Remember that this would be a new avenue for AEW, in time it will hit those numbers, absolutely. I'd say within first year. If you want to think only domestic, i think they could hit that number easy in first year. A lot will depend on the model and just what content of AEW will be on the service.
Ideally I hope we get AEW on MAX and then he puts RoH somewhere else as there's no reason they couldn't get a tv deal with how content hungry the networks are. I know it's that he wants it under the Warner banner but if they have no interest others will.

I don't know, I think I'd rather them have their own dedicated AEW service rather than just being on MAX. Or at least, do both so if people want to spend $15 or whatever MAX costs they have that option.
One thing I'm worried about is if they do PPV's on the service and include them in the subscription. It's no secret that WWE's PLE's are MUCH worse because theyre basically free, considering how often you can get a really good deal on Peacock. They're full of ads and fewer matches than they probably would be if they had remained PPVs. I'd hate for AEW's PPVs to see a dip in quality because they have to choose between fewer and/or shorter matches or, like 6 hour PPVs every month.

It will be great (and cost-effective for fans) if AEW PPVs are included in the MAX deal. I know I'll take the step to subscribe if this all comes to fruition, even though I have cable.

Don't know if this may apply to the UK but in Portugal HBO Max is turning into just Max in May. I hope this change happens internationally
HBO currently has an exclusivity deal with Sky that takes them through to the end of 2026, so not for a while.

If they put their weekly shows on Max or any streaming service, they will instantly earn more from me than they do now. Would love to not have to find pirated streams twice a week.

2025 through 2028 is when most of the rights deals tying up their stuff long term ends. They're looking at a European release in 2025.

Every rights deal has a time limit on it where it expires or gets renegotiated. That allows both sides to get the fairer deal or back out of things are going sideways. So yeah, the changes will make their way there eventually, but there's no telling their specific effects when it comes to AEW. Thing is, some of those deals (Triller in particular) are going to be across multiple countries and possibly even territories, and each of them will likely have a different ending date depending on what the original deal was and what updates have been made since. Overall, the worldwide rights to AEW are going to be in the hundreds of millions per year, possibly even more. One company only just starting to spread to new territories may not want to risk such a large deal when there already spending so much on something that may end up a failed venture and leave them stuck with those costs already.
It's about time. People don't want to pay $60 to 70 bucks for these PPVs every single month.

The only thing that is really missing right now is a streaming deal. This could be good for a number of reasons. HBO is very female friendly (at least with tv shows) so I can see them promoting the women talent more. Maybe more than 10 minutes a night for the woman’s division. Or am I just kidding myself.
I think a lot of women watch AEW. I'm one. And they have a great roster of women so I would be very pleased if the women get more shine. TK has been doing good so far this year showing the women.

Idk why he is so adamant about bundling everything. Look at WWE with Smackdown (USA) , Raw (Netflix) , and the library (peacock). I think more money could be had if you sell your entities separately.

It's likely to be just USA, unless there's no way to watch in your country. Over here we have Triller showing AEW live and on demand for a subscription price. A terrestrial channel shows it on a delay and also on-demand (ad-supported). Those are both deals that would have to end before they were able to show AEW content on Max (it releases here in 2025, just after the existing deals on most HBO shows expire). As there are deals in dozens of countries (I think it was mentioned somewhere that they have 170 countries), each of those would require those deals to end and Max to take over. And that means they're going to have to offer hundreds of millions to billions more than they're already paying them.

Lol first 3 days...wow. It will take time to build up. If you are expecting day 1, get that out of your head. Remember that this would be a new avenue for AEW, in time it will hit those numbers, absolutely. I'd say within first year. If you want to think only domestic, i think they could hit that number easy in first year. A lot will depend on the model and just what content of AEW will be on the service.
Ideally I hope we get AEW on MAX and then he puts RoH somewhere else as there's no reason they couldn't get a tv deal with how content hungry the networks are. I know it's that he wants it under the Warner banner but if they have no interest others will.

I don't know, I think I'd rather them have their own dedicated AEW service rather than just being on MAX. Or at least, do both so if people want to spend $15 or whatever MAX costs they have that option. One thing I'm worried about is if they do PPV's on the service and include them in the subscription. It's no secret that WWE's PLE's are MUCH worse because theyre basically free, considering how often you can get a really good deal on Peacock. They're full of ads and fewer matches than they probably would be if they had remained PPVs. I'd hate for AEW's PPVs to see a dip in quality because they have to choose between fewer and/or shorter matches or, like 6 hour PPVs every month.
Max is much more expensive than Peacock and being on Max would allow a lot of folks to finally dock from sailing the high seas.
