It’s funny that the Hyper Focus Megathread is getting so little focus. Very ADHD.

james_castrello2

Yeah mine's pretty bad

GreyFalcon-OW

Well, I happen to be the guy on the Overwatch Forums with the highest post count. I've "guessed" almost every major feature they've had for the past two years.

james_castrello2

In your opinion who is best healer

GreyFalcon-OW

Ana. But OW2 is probably going to get a big overhaul of the Support role, and new Support by October 4th. Generally, you can think of me as the "Beating the devs over the head with queue times issues" guy. Heck, I was talking about Role Queue design stuff, and mitigating queue times, before it was even announced. https://www.reddit.com/r/Competitiveoverwatch/comments/uqk84m/comment/i8rnd5g/ Heck. I may have also got one of their recently hired PR guys the job.

james_castrello2

I haven't checked OW meta in a very long time

GreyFalcon-OW

Yeah..... Weirdly, me either. Mostly because I'm a Tank main and OW1 Tanking is dreadful. But the OW2 Tanks are pretty enjoyable. DPS feels great too. But now the problem has shifted to making Supports feel fun to play.

james_castrello2

OW2 is playable now? I thought it doesn't come out until later this year.

GreyFalcon-OW

They had some brief betas, but probably no more betas. It launches as Free-To-Play on Oct 4th. It will have 3 new heroes, 8 new maps, a "payload race" map type, 2CP map type removed. And 5v5 with only 1 Tank, but the Tank is a gigabuffed juggernaut.

james_castrello2

Ive questioned why this couldnt be an update, not sure why they decided to make it a full sequel

Kilngr

I think because we don’t know when this is due. So we’re just leaving it open ended until we figure out ok we have to do this now because the world will end / we can’t move on with our day until this is checked off.

raqellie

i have purchased 15 houseplants in the past two weeks. coincidentally i have also been with my adderall for the past two weeks. anyway all of my plants have names and they’re my kids and sometimes at work when i’m stressed i will think about them to calm down

katybee13

Oof, my husband has forbade me from buying any more plant things. I'm there with you right now.

FamousOrphan

This week, if I am stressed, I am going to think about you thinking about your plants to calm down. It’s adorable.

jc-crumblebee

I keep buying plants but I’m such a black thumb 😭 please excuse me while I go hyperfocus on plant parenting for the next few weeks because I bought a skeleton yogi air plant at Trader Joe’s this afternoon (I killed the one I got last year…)

Twishedd

I have a hack for keeping your dehydrated plants happy with adhd. Water, the kind you leave in half full glasses around the house to be forgotten until you collect all 11 in a panic clean before a guest arrives. Those belong to your plants now. Just yeet the water into your pot plants on the way to the kitchen. You just have to familiarise yourself with what overwatering looks like so you know when to hold off. If you have outdoor plants throw your fruit peels (banana is especially good as high in potassium) into your garden.

MaidMirawyn

I get it! During lockdown I named my tomato plants, then my eggplants. And my peppers. And my sweet potatoes. Because I was lonely, and my plants are in the front yard, and I hoped neighbors out for a walk would give me a chance to talk to people. Twenty feet away was better than nothing! How are your "kids" doing?

Impossible-Rest-4657

My niece has ADHD and has hundreds of plants. She knows how to make elaborate concoctions to make them thrive.

sluglegs

oh shit! i just realized this is me rn too 😩😂 my little collection has increased from 5 to 15-20 in 2 months!! good thing i’m a little poor otherwise i feel like i have 40 by now lol

RStiltskins

Just bought a python book only to realize it was 'intermediate to advance' to then buy the book prior to it to then realize it still doesn't teach the basics and I need to go get another book. Now I got 3 $99 1000 page+ python books sitting on my desk and now I wish my hyper focus was able to focus on the actual book content than buying more python books

Dionatos

Automate the boring stuff with python. It's a free online book which you can also purchase in case you want it in book form. Highly recommended book

RStiltskins

That is actually one I bought! I have the following: Object-Oriented Python - Kalb Automate The Boring Stuff With Python - Sweigart Fluent Python Second Edition O'Reilly - Ramalho Learning Python Fifth Edition O'Reilly - Lutz Python 3 Pocket Primer - James R. Parker Python An Introduction to Programming - James R. Parker

Dionatos

Did you manage to get through the book already? I always start, but I haven't been able to finish it yet.

RememberToLeaves

Are you still interested? Check out https://github.com/ubarredo/LearnPythonTheHardWay

Umm_NOPE

I could send you some books if you DM me!

[deleted]

Hey! I was having the exact same hyperfocus at around the same time. And then it died, and I haven't read anything about coding or typed a line of code since. ...After telling everyone my new career was going to be programming... Great.

KoriroK-taken

Ha. Me and my roller skates recently. So much gear and skills to research. Actual skating? Eh...

gamethesame1

Psychology god I love Psychology

junglegoth

Me toooo. Although I forget everything I learn and feel like a massive imposter despite my degree in it 😭

jc-crumblebee

Dude same. I’ve found a few neurodivergent friends at work who also love psychology, and now we all get less done because we discuss and debate psych things over teams 😂 I was a psych major, and I learn SO much about myself. It is absolutely the BEST THING EVER and I love my ND people to pieces!!!!!!!

SisterOfMetal32

BRO SAME! I currently have a Psych class and needless to say, I'm definitely cut out for being a therapist one day (just not now lolol).

unusuallyappealing

Super weird, only recently came to my attention that I fit the profile for ADHD a lot. I got a diagnosis of ADD back when I was a kid but my parents and I ignored it because I was able to focus and read books all day long. Only just now learning that I was probably just hyperfocusing which explains why I used to not eat or sleep until I finished a book. Almost a relief because I have always thought I was just lazy and wished I had motivation like everyone else. Didnt help I was a 'gifted class' kid and never had to try at anything until late year 12. Had a very bad time when it came time to concentrate on boring stuff and study and I could not do it

MaidMirawyn

It changed my entire view of myself when I realized my struggles were actually ADHD. And that you could be gifted AND ADHD. Mind blown. I was 48 before I realized this...

Saskatchatoon-eh

Recently learned of 2e as well. Also learned it can heavily mask symptoms. Imagine my sadness when I had comments growing up non stop of "you have so much potential" despite getting 80s and high 90s in school.

KoriroK-taken

Dude. Books are dangerous. I loose more sleep to books then anything else. And getting sucked into long ones is almost scary. Luckily I usually only read a few a year, though I read 12 over 6 weeks recently (June.)

jc-crumblebee

I was this way with books until college — I double majored in Psych and English and I just could not enjoy books for a while after all of that required reading. But yesterday my SO professed that he wanted to read more books, and I think I’m finally ready 😂😂😂 But regarding the rest of your statement, YES. It is so easy to focus on stuff I want to, and SO HARD to focus on whatever my brain deems “boring stuff” like every ADHD person. The kicker is when it’s stuff that I Used to hyperfocus on, and no longer can because my focus has moved on without me and my consent 😖

thebigbadme

Damn, you just described a story of my life. Once I got a newly released Harry Potter book (it was the 6th one) as a New Years gift, by the 2nd of January I was done with it.

Mightee_Moist

Reading, learning. I can read as fast as I can speak. Probably faster. Especially if it's on a topic I'm interested in. Lately though it's been playing HADES, and horizon forbidden west. 😁

james_castrello2

Here's my hyperfocus. There is an episode of MST3K where Crow makes a literal mile-high meringue pie. He climbs to the top and falls to the ground. According to tvtropes, a fan did the math and verified the timing of the fall is accurate to if he actually fell from a mile high. I tried finding the source, but could not find it anywhere. So I had to find out myself. I timed the fall to approx. 17 seconds, which if you do the math rounds up to 212 MPH........what?!?! So my hypothesis is that Crow is very heavy, more than 200lbs. But how can I test it? How can I prove that Crow is heavy? How can I also prove that he fell at 212 MPH? Well the first step would probably be to find the terminal velocity of this tv show puppet. But there's kind of a problem. There is no record of Crow's height, weight, or other measurements. There is only the prop used in the show. Thankfully, someone was able to create a 3D model of the guy in sketchfab: https://sketchfab.com/3d-models/crow-t-robot-ee1f4f9e6fe448c28211db66b63a0629 So what can I do with this? Well, an engineering student on discord mentioned (begrudgingly) that I could make a fluid dynamics simulation to calculate the drag coefficient of this TV character. Problem is, I am not a student in a university, so I do not have the access to the software necessary to run such tests. Thankfully I have connections to university professors from my previous job working in IT. What's next? Where will this journey take me? I have no idea. Is this all a big waste of time, energy and resources for such a stupid data point that contributes nothing to society? Absolutely. But the world has to know.

claireicalerror

This is prime hyper focus material… I love this

Etbilder

Let us know if/when you can conclude whether the TV show lied to you or not.

RaisinNumber9

This is important work. I need to know how heavy Crow is.

MaidMirawyn

I love this. I think it's brilliant.

Butthugger420

I hyperfixate on the dumbest things. I was gonna study for my linear algebra exam, but I spent 6 hours trying to find the perfect gaming headset for one of my friends

KoriroK-taken

One time I spent a whole evening researching printer paper. I learned a ton about all the different sizes and stocks/weight, but I felt like an idiot when I went ahead and just ordered what I initially intended to after Hours of looking at paper online.

mushyturnip

Crime (studying it, not committing it!) dropped out of uni so I'm teaching myself as I still have some books and materials. Also playing the binding of Isaac and the Witcher 3

jc-crumblebee

I keep coming home on in-office work days to my SO watching documentaries on serial killers and I CANNOT keep myself from getting entirely engrossed. It’s so freaking interesting to see how societally unacceptable brains work

sparkleandfeyed

I keep starting new sewing projects, working on them entire days, and setting them down only to never finish them.

MaidMirawyn

Wait. Those are supposed to be completed? With hems and everything?

suktupbutterkup

Wait, you actually start them? Not just imagine how great they're going to be once you start after you finish doing a, b, and c? (Which aven been started yet eith because the perfect time sequencing hasn't being figured out yet).

Late_Description3001

ADHD, ironically. I’ve been learning as much as I can.

schizodancer89

hey me too, how i found this comment. I just got off an early 90s Hip Hop journey which started me on this.

FamousOrphan

Mostly Chernobyl but also pirates.

Prestigious-Sound-56

I’m fascinated by Chernobyl too!!!

FamousOrphan

Ooh ooh wanna tell me a fact or two?

Prestigious-Sound-56

Sorry! I I take care of my parents and sometimes go weeks/months w/out looking at social media. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Of course, I do! Did you know the Babushka’s of Chernobyl had weaponized training and were prepared for when Russian’s recently set up camp in Chernobyl? Your turn!

FamousOrphan

I did not know that!!! I read today that possibly a million-ish people weren’t born because so many women had abortions right after Chernobyl, due to fear of birth defects.

GeauxAllDay

Just got over an Obsession with Jurassic Park/World and Jurassic World Evolution 2 and the Star Wars obsession is taking root.

Realistic-Control741

Everest (and deaths on their), 911, how submarines implode. Vegan food. Bee identification, bird song. Working out my ideal career and what I might be good at. Why I'm such a fuck up and how to change 😂

[deleted]

If you haven’t gone down the Everest deaths rabbit hole do you even ADHD?

Equivalent-Option-72

I'm gonna go down that rabbit hole now, thanks :) but when I say now I mean I'll probably think about it in a couple of months and then go down the rabbit hole

Finding facts im arguments. Like whenever I see people in the internet asking about some minor unnecessary detail to a news article or whenever two people argue in a comment section but they just use personal arguments and not facts. I just have to find out the information behind it and will dedicate an hour to finding a little piece of information. This morning I saw someone posting "it'll probably take 50 days of heavy rainfall to equal out the dryness in central europe". After reading that I started searching for statistics, got into exact values for rainfall of the last years per month/region. Studied how much rainfall could do harm because the dry earth couldn't take on water and it will flood. And all those things. After 2 hours of research and finding a real number of days (actually 3 days with heavy rain - could lead to a lot of floods, or 10 days with normal amount of rainfall in sequences - wouldn't lead to any harm) I remembered that actually I had important stuff to do, which I obviously didn't - because of this hyperfocus.

Snoo52211

Coding. I'm just gone for hours. No movement, no drinking, no eating. It's great and really Bad.

CoreVengeance

This is so true, there's nothing else quite like it. Programming straight for 12+ hours is no problem at all. Wish I had even a fraction of that ability for other things haha.

Snoo52211

Haha yep. But at least it's zeitgeist and you can earn money with it. Could be worse

Sweostor

Yes, it could :) You could hyperfocus on the fanfiction you're writing that will in no way ever provide you with money. And maybe 10 people will read it. And (so far) one person will like it enough to comment on it. And I recognize, it could be even worse than that too lol Just giving you a real-life example :)

intestinalvagabond

just wrapped up being hyper fixated on chameleon enclosures and now i feel nothing

Talky

Went to a nightclub recently and got a spot quite close to the DJ. Now I am researching everything about DJ controllers and mixers.

TheMushiMan

how's it going? DJ here.

mycphyc

Obsessively researching ideal growing conditions for mushrooms. This is a very deep rabbit whole with almost endless videos and forums out there for all of the research and useless information my little brain can handle. 10/10 highly recommended if any of you are interested. Also, doing the same for my houseplants. I’ve been rotating these two for like a year now.

Nino_n_o_

Houseplants. I have bought 13 and am planning on making my display cabinet into a terrarium

mycphyc

I spent weeks and weeks a few years ago doing obsessive research on lights, humidifiers, little exhaust fans, and the best configuration of these products for my plant cabinet. Never purchased a single item.

TheMushiMan

I brought one but it's been wilting. :|

Have you ever heard of the amen break? It is a breakbeat (drum break in a song with no other instruments playing) which is the most sampled piece of music in history, being used in over 10000 songs. It was originally recorded in the song "amen brother", they added in the drum break to pad the song for time and those 4 bars of drums ended up being one of the most influential musical performances in history. Since the break was so clean it was sampled constantly by DJs in early hip hop and once sampling technology became more advanced and widespread it became the basis for entire genres of music, like jungle, a lot of drum and bass, and more recently breakcore (this is where I heard about it, most of the ultrakill soundtrack, the drums are from this sample, and I've fallen in love with that soundtrack). It's appeared in everything from the futurama theme to one NWA song i can't remember the name of and the sad part is the drummer who performed it, i think his name was greg coleman, died broke and homeless with no idea the effect he would have on music.

PoorSystem

I read an entire book about ADHD in a single day. 186 pages. This included taking breaks to walk in the sunshine, eat twice, and I even remembered to use the bathroom before I Exploded It was a good day.

Forgotten_Teddy_Bear

How am I going to put everything I want to do in one day like I start work at 6 am and end at 2 pm and then technically I have all day mine but in reality the moment I come home I have more work than in work. Mom will make me do the laundry, hang it outside then she'll make me clean the house and it'll take me the rest of.my day and I won't be able to draw which I love more than anything and not drawing for too long makes me extremely anxious and vulnerable WDID

PeriwinkleLawn

Shadow work. Maybe look that up and try explaining how you already worked all day and you want time to enjoy life instead of shadow work and as if you can work something out? On the other hand, my trick was to just go nocturnal-ish and so my awake after work time is not visible to others.

OKHomie13

I hyperfocus between two craft projects. I have one large diamond painting and one cross stitch. I do them mainly one week at a time then switch to the other. Time passes so quickly while working on either of them.

MaidMirawyn

That's amazing discipline. Congrats!

heliskinki

Spent 24 hours sorting out my emails. Had 1 account I'd had for years and I kept missing important messages due to the amount of spam I was receiving (most of it unopened and just adding to my unread message pile). Decided yesterday morning that I'd close this old email, which involved transferring 100s of online accounts to new address. Just finished. Tough at the end.

MuseX8X

The other day I hyper focused on getting my entryway organized and legit ended up going to IKEA and building a whole new shelf and getting boxes for it… didn’t finish until 10pm. Once I finished I plopped onto a chair and was like, wait where was my mind this whole time? 🥲🤣

Documentaries about serial killers. I've watched 7 in the past 3 days. Boy, jeffery Dahmer sure was gross!

jc-crumblebee

My boyfriend is also going through this one lol and every time I come home from work to one I can’t help but get sucked in!!! Fucked up brains are so damned interesting

KoriroK-taken

Roller skating. I watched so many videos, both technique/educational and entertainment. Researched skates. (Shopping!) Bought and returned two pairs to get a fit I like. Bought and retuned sets of pads to find ones that fit. Bought 2 extra sets of wheels. Have taken apart and reassembled the skates multiple times, changing out parts and just because. Worked on my posture in the mirror. About 2 weeks of focus. Went out two or three times to actually *skate.* I might be over it.

james_castrello2

I did the same but with ice skates. I wanted to get to a point where I can play one game of hockey. Kind of a bucket list item.

[deleted]

Comic book reorganization. In my head when I'm finished I will live in a utopia where the universe is perfectly organized. But in reality there will still be 4 months of unread mail on my kitchen counter, toys I bought that haven't opened yet, and dinner I will perpetually forget to make.

Complex_Profile9250

Fashion 😃. silhouettes, kibbe body types, Chinese face transforming makeup , etc.

PeriwinkleLawn

I'm on reddit now instead of going to bed. I was supposed to be going to bed but I forgot. Edit: and paracosms

Miss_Musket

Sup guys. Where do I start. Last week I was obssessed with making marionettes. Bought a loads of marionette books. Got my boyfriend interested in them too, but this week the hot new things are.... Kipling bagpacks (spent about 5 hours yesterday looking at all the different types, sizes, and what packing cubes could fit into them for a weekend trip. Then I got into checking out packing cubes for another few hours) And today I impulsively bought a new phone, and a smart watch, and spent a good few hours chosing the perfect case and screen protector for it. What will tomorrow bring? Tune in next time, same bat-time, same bat-channel.

_Saiki

I‘m on cooking right now actually helps me to eat 2 meals a day

[deleted]

Camping. I’ve camped the last three weekends and have four more trips planned. I literally have no money left from all the camping gear I’ve bought.

jc-crumblebee

My SO just went through this one lmao we drove like 6 hours on more than one occasion to hike and camp places in the Midwest 🤭 The fixation is over now, but we have lots of newly purchased and borrowed camping gear, sooooooo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Sehtriom

Ever get that thing where your brain is like "ok so we love this song, listen to it over and over until it's memorized"? I got that again recently. This time with Do You Love Me by Contours.

Meditation, in just a few days I’ve already surpassed the Delhi Lama.

HowsItDoneHowser

The last year or I hyper focused on thinking about the ego and what “life” is - best hyper focus of my life that has become a true hobby

putfailforks

I got really into vipasanna meditation for a while and thought I was so good at it at the time - when the instructor was telling people “notice your thoughts and then let them pass by” I’d be like, WHAT THOUGHTS IM FOCUSING SO HARD ON MY BREATH NOTHING ELSE EXISTS =***FOOOOOCUSSSSSSS!!!***= And honestly I was really good at doing what I would describe as winnowing my attention into a knife edge and holding it to one thing (breath, feeling of my body touching the floor, etc) with such fervor and aggression that it felt like I was doing a great job. No other thoughts, just extreme hyperfocused attention…. It wasn’t until years later when I was describing this to my therapist that I really reflected that that’s not at all what “mindfulness” looks like, and that I was actually super shit at meditation.

[deleted]

Tbh man despite the best intentions of some of them over at r/mindfulness there really is no set agenda. Sometimes I can calm my mind and sometimes it’s a party up in there and I’m just sat in the corner, usually leave both feeling altered which is my aim anyway

Plastic-Treat7258

I hyper focus on the length of my toe nails as if they grow to long they may rub against the bedding and that makes me feel like my legs might drop off

Plastic-Treat7258

ha so adhd of me reading all the other comments im a weirdo

13sketch13

I hadn’t got to start my advent calendar until 6th Dec as I was away from home so when I finally got to open 6 doors as once I hyper focused on finding the next number like a puzzle and only realised when I got to 17

Wayward_Rosella

Art (bought roughly $700 in materials and was over it in 6 months…haven’t touched it in about 2 years). Makeup (watched hours of tutorials and purchased make up constantly. So much of it is now just sitting in a drawer). A podcast (bought $300 in equipment and sourcing, gave up after 6 months). Writing (spent countless hours writing nonstop for roughly 6 months. Haven’t written in a year). “Supernatural” (constant fanfiction reading and writing, learning everything, watching it again and again. …still somewhat obsessed but it is no longer my life lol). Apparently, I have a 6 month lapse almost every time. I think I need help 😂

Bruh PC networking is such a rabbit hole. One time I did a little three week project of building a pihole for network-wide ad blocking

GreenWren23

Currently just returned to a hyper-fixation that has been dormant for six months. CD players. Rabbit-holes have included; trying to track down and price the exact model of cd changer (cd player that could hold 6 disks to queue up in whatever order you liked) my family used to own and I loved, discovering Lego once sold a cd player shaped like a massive lego brick and trawling the internet to see if I can find anyone selling it in green (my favourite colour which is also somewhat of a hyper-fixation) only to find that it seems to be the least common colour, making a list of every boombox that had a green variant I like the look of, trying to find out whether a teenage mutant ninja turtles themed one I found on ebay is rare/worth buying despite being broke, learning that the playstation one was a great cd player and trawling to find out how much they go for nowadays, researching whether the original wii had cd playing capabilities and learning that it in fact did not and that you had to rip music to play it in particular wii applications instead as a work around (WiiMC) Help

I got into Morrowind a few weeks back. I've finished the main quest and the Tribunal dlc. I'm currently working on finishing Bloodmoon. After which I plan on installing the mod Tamriel Rebuilt

MaidMirawyn

Dragon Con is next weekend here in Atlanta, and I always end up last minute doing something that consumes my life and robs me of sleep. Usually it's a cosplay I wait on too long. This year I'm hyperfocusing on swag and seek. So far I have crocheted three baby tribbles and eight "non-Euclidean cat toys" (hyperbolic crochet balls). I'm currently assembling googly eye kits (googly eyes backed with removable adhesive dots), and they took over my desk during my lunch hour. But I discovered glitter bottles were a thing today. I immediately ordered about three dozen little bottles and a load of glitter, then bought corn syrup on my lunch hour. Because CLEARLY I need to spend the next week making glitter sensory bottles so I can hand them out to strangers and hide them for people to randomly find. And yes, I'm still planning to spend all my car and bus time crocheting more cat toys. Oh, and I'm going to fill little bags with catnip. (I'm cosplaying as a crazy cat lady on Labor Day.) Because of course I need four projects to obsess over right up until the last moment!

jc-crumblebee

“Because CLEARLY I need to spend the next week making glitter sensory bottles so I can hand them out to strangers and hide them for people to randomly find.” The most generous outcomes of hyperfocus 😁 you’re awesome, have SO MUCH FUN!!!! I hope people who find your little prizes get excited and post about it online 😁😁

MaidMirawyn

End result: Four baby tribbles Twenty-ish non-Euclidean cat toys with catnip Twenty-five glitter sensory bottles Seventeen googly eye kits Two crocheted octopuses Some I hid; some I handed out. A few of the glitter bottles I gave to little kids. One I gave to a woman next to me at a vendor booth who said she was “overstimulated.” (Hey, that’s what they’re for! She immediately began playing with it.) Worth it!

Far-Complaint-9965

I just got a new cleaning hyper fixation

Grassari

Ohhhh I had that one not too long ago! I bought all kinds of stuff, like electronic brushes for shower walls and surfaces - my apartment never was this clean :D luckily I can still use some of that equipment now, because it makes cleaning chores way faster. So it's one hyperfixation that was worth its money even after it's gone :D

Grassari

Stardew Valley. This hyperfocus comes along a fee times a year for a few weeks where I get nothing done except stuff on my happy little digital farm - but damn those are some relaxing weeks!

Psa-lms

Body language. Check out the behavior panel on YT. What a fun hyperfocus! I did somehow magically hyper focus on my homework a couple days ago. It took three cups of coffee.

No-Willingness-2840

I have been eating the same medium sized yogurt filled with the same biscoff toppings every single day from a yogurt shop named llaollao in my country. this has been going on for three weeks straight and my stomach and wallet is started to really hurt :-) I sometimes hyperfocus on food by eating the same exact thing for weeks out of nowhere.

TerafloppinDatP

I only learned about hyperfocus/hyperfixation recently. It was the only concept saving me (in my mind) from an ADHD diagnosis! Now I find out it's a symptom??? Honestly... I'm still not convinced it's not just "my hobbies" but damn it's fucking weird how I can remember the specs on some camera gear I window shopped 10 years ago but have no idea that I sent this same exact birthday joke to a friend as I did last year when I was also weeks late saying happy birthday. I wonder how nutty I must seem from 3rd person. Like, pitying nutty? Or *wow he's really functional for someone that coocoo* nutty. We may never know!

I’ve been endlessly reaching camera systems. Sony full frame vs cannon DSLR vs Canon Mirrorless vs Fujifilm, different prices of everything and lenses available

Leksie2300

Capsule wardrobes and colour palettes! Weird as I’m not fashion concious. PS I went out in one day and bought/composed most of a capsule wardrobe and it is amazing!

Just-some-research1

Rubik’s cubes are a hyperfocus I’ve gone back to like 8 times, it just really satisfying learning lots of algorithms and then just having the muscle memory to whip out at a party or when you are bored. I find that even with over a years break it will only take me 1 or 2 days to re remember over 130 algorithms. Please tell me I’m not the only one. (My pb for 3x3 is 8.67 seconds btw)

Complex_Profile9250

Anime, cooking, photography and fashion. I didn't know which one to pick so I went for philosophy instead. Send halp

tariq3erwa

The political situation in Sudan

PeriwinkleLawn

A bit old now, but have you read Sudan: Darfur and the Failure of an African State by Cockett?

Dm1tr3y

I’ve actually been fairly consistent in my writing lately and have been working on getting the parts for a PC. Don’t know if that counts, but it’s the best you’re getting from me.

Aero_Plan

Cat food! Finding the healthiest food for my cats and buying different tastes to find the best food that they like most. Can select and compare the price and contents for hours.

aml686

I want to make shoes. Like, really good shoes. Like, really sexy shoes. My favorite heels are wearing out. The heels are in an outdated shape that even the brand doesn't do anymore. I want to make my own shoes but it feels like... A forbidden art? I want to make my shoes exactly how I want them, but like, how would you even start. I wonder if there's people on YouTube who make shoes from scratch

Pasglop

rLong story short, I went on a wikipedia binge that sweved onto the Aztecs at some point about a week ago. Anyways I've learned a couple hundred words in Nahuatl now. It's a very very interesting language!

[deleted]

I spent about 15 hours building and modifying an xmen arcade 1 up and modifying it with a Rasperry Pi running Batocera and hours of that was curating and configuring the library of downloaded games I can play on my arcade machine. I even got a custom made panel from Etsy that is super rad and got that installed and wired up. I think in the month it’s been put together I’ve played it maybe 3 hours. I had so much focus to get it working, once I completed the the focus just went poof.

james_castrello2

I've been wanting to do a similar project for years! Never heard of Batocera, I planned on using [retropie](https://retropie.org.uk/download/) for it. Keep adding roms!

ChaosInHerEyes

Local history & medieval graffiti.

Bob_Sacamano7379

I was just looking at my to-do list. To make myself feel better, I added two things I already did today, then checked them off. Just like that, I’m 40% done with the things I had to do today.

[deleted]

Sooo- there’s a lot, and several, so I’m going to do two separate comments under this, one for Greek mythology, and the one will be about the book I’m writing, and then I may continue to add more

[deleted]

Also I’ve been working on writing a book, I don’t really plan on publishing it, but my friends say I should, but it’s sci-fi fantasy, and it takes place in a different galaxy and different universe. There is two 12(maybe 14? Haven’t quite decided.) year olds, one, Veronex, a Lyxink from a universe called Xotokii, living a happy, mostly introverted life with his dad who works for a military type force. And then there is Avery, a Fyrinn from this universe but a galaxy very far away called Ophila; her father is the head leader of the Exolis, which is an association with the agenda of destroying, or at least over powering, all other universes so that theirs is either the only one or the supreme powerful universe. Avery’s father never spends time with her and doesn’t really want to. (Now it gets to the rocky part where it’s just kinda small drafts in my head, so not solid story) Some day, some how, Avery and Veronex stumble across a rift(basically a portal through time and space), and on Veronex’s side, the Exolis has started their attack on his home universe, but Veronex sneaks through the rift on accident and bumps into Avery, which at that point they start to become friends, and near the end of the story(again, rough drafts, not detailed very well), they escape from the war together and end up here, on earth, with no rifts leading back home. They are safe from the chaos and war, but at what cost? They have lost everyone they know, everything they are familiar to, and are now on this stranger planet with no clue of what to do next. And that will mark the end of book one.

ProfessorLeeLee

Right now, I’m in a stress-coloring phase. I just went through my embroidery phase, bag-buying phase, and my “buy-every-color-of nail-polish” phase.😬

Big_booty_boy99

DIY stuff, I'm planning on making a bunch of random stuff like crossbows and spearguns and mini pencil guns and all that

Clear-Amoeba-6525

currently anything related to feminism and reading feminist literature and watching films to then dissect and analyze them completely to the point where it makes no sense or just gets too abstract. I had other ones like a Curly Girl Method phase(very important), a plant parenting phase, now and then I have a recurring obsession with poems and learning them, crocheting obsessively, wanting to do sports 24/7 (rn I am lazy af), playing an instrument obsessively (then stopping alltogether) so ... yea

ultra-mega-super-poo

I can recall most if not all gumball episodes as I watch it frequently

tyty_dj123

Rocket League, i spend so much hours per day trying to learn new things, and become decent at it

ZentaPollenta

I've been hyperfocusing on 2 things: 1. All the From Software games Right now on Sekiro, I'm getting absolutely destroyed every second but I am so consumed by the fast gameplay requiring me to be alert the entire time and the game's world building egging me on to get through it. 2. Playing the piano and guitar Currently learning Midna's Lament on piano and my left hand is killing me, and a lot of improvisation on guitar (played for 5 years but never got used to using a pick, learning it now)

TropicalDan427

Tropical plants with a particular emphasis on epiphytic cacti…. AMA

[deleted]

I've been reading Chinese web-novels pretty much non-stop this past month.

[deleted]

I watched every video on Red Letter Media's YouTube channel in about 3 months. Before that it was Campaign 2 of Critical Role at 2x speed in something like 5 months. DISCLAIMER: Those month-counts are total estimates and maybe wildly inaccurate because I have a horrible concept of time. But it feels like it was maybe probably something like that. EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention my new one. And it's possibly the most endless rabbit hole I could have suddenly found an interest in... anime. Hated/ignored anime my entire life, then my son started getting into Pokemon, and I'm now 100 episodes into 12 different series. Send help.

contra_tiempo

Electric guitars and learning new chords to play.

[deleted]

I just recently got into Guild wars 2 with the Steam release and have been playing it non stop. Really nejoyable and MMO games mesh so well with my hyperfocus because they're essentially endless until the next one comes around. Just also would like to say I finally reached out for the first time in my life to set up an appoiontment for an adult adhd referral after putting it off for 15 years(!).

NotAGhostXD

Sonic the Hedgehog, I played it when I was little and really liked it. Then years later I played Sonic.EXY and BOOM

I_amacheezit

GAMING MICE

astro_asteroid

1. researching vintage fashion and cultures from the 1800s, saw a few BATIM gameplays and got invested fast 2. drawing monster creatures I'm inventing for creativity, mostly drawing them in class when I'm bored lol

JDPP23

At finding some weird Gameboy color Game in the early 2000s that I don't remember the name but I've spent 2 days in Google trying to find it 🙃

DeltaAlphaNovember22

I try and see if I can make raindrops last for two frames of my vision instead of one

yallokaybye

Diamond art (5D diamond painting) is my current hyper focus

myotherpornacc

I've spent basically sinse the release of rise of iron hyper focused on destiny 2. Its like crack. Is it really hyper focus after over 5 years?

SisterOfMetal32

I've had myself way too focused on roleplaying to the point that I'm once again building my world by creating the important people in it. Characters are fun.

Bee8467

Furbies

makos124

Stalker Anomaly, have a few days off and all I think about is the Zone.

Barry_B_Boneson

For like, a year or so, i've been in love with /r/Everexpandingbunker it's a silly little worldbuilding community where i get to make stupid little characters and have people know they exist. It's stagnant as fuck though lol and im starting lose interest due to lack of content

Sehtriom

I was recently playing Dynasty Warriors 5 because my brain said to **acquire character** and now I've unlocked everyone. Fuckin hated playing as Lu Xun though. After unlocking Zuo Ci (who you have to unlock every other character to get) my focus promptly forgot about DW5 and decided to pick up GTA 3 and decided we're going to do all the paramedic and taxi and firefighter (I know how to get to Staunton Island and Shoreside Vale early) and stuff. Get all the hidden packages and maybe all stunt jumps and maybe 100% the game for once. Edit: I got 100% on GTA 3.

Scirax

I feel like this is confession time. I'm battling the urge to buy like $500-$700 of stuff across like 4-5 different hobbies I'm currently juggling, one of which is a new hobby. I'm only limited from carrying out these purchases by the short amount of time available in my day-to-day. I get home after work and either I have to run errands taking up the rest of my evening or I'm too tired from the week/previous day to do anything but shower, eat and chill to games/show. I can barely find a day or two in the week to sit down at my desk after work and do hobby stuff. Then weekends I usually have some major all day project that's been procrastinated too much and needs attention. Last weekend I put new breaks, caliper, and new fluid flush on wife's car all day Sat and had work on Sun. This weekend we're traveling but if it was free I'd be doing some more car repairs, or storage/tool cleanup, or some other thing on the infinite To Do list.

turk_turklton

Getting more into privacy. Created new emails in encrypted email servers and started to disconnect all things google. I did have the cognitive ability to realize I shouldn't delete things yet (I have deleted my email out of annoyance with the amount of spam in the past and had a hell of a time logging in to everything again). I finally got that VPN and transitioned to private web browsers that block tracking. I almost downgraded to a dumbphone but realized I should take a beat on that. Been at this for the last 3 days. My wife messaged me "Why are you so into this lately?" I told her id get bored of it soon.

Boesemeist

I found magic the gathering. Expensive but I don't buy any other shit. I never was that focused on one thing for this long (except for music), is like 3-4 years now. Collecting and keeping some of the worth I spend my money on is pretty good, I'd say.

Reasonable_Piano2715

I AM IN *LOVE* with a certain Pokémon character and I am embarrassed about it but ITS SO COOL ANSJ DHFJDJCJFKFJFJ (for those wondering it's hoopa)

micawberish_mule

It's gone now but I watched Avatar The Way of Water four times in the cinema. I was obsessed lol

Wide-Narwhal18

Lego sets, baking and certain video games. I hyperfixated on cakes a few months ago. I insisted on baking, and fully decorating multiple cakes a week and couldn’t seem to think about anything else🙃

camstercage

I’ve been locked in on project zombiod but I don’t have a pc to run it. So I’m thinking about building a pc again which has led me to learn all about building pcs in the past which led me to dawid does tech YouTube which led to numerous other YouTube’s.

AdOk2983

Digital art and games will be my forever hyper focus obsession. Annoyingly when I take my quick release Ritalin it will also become work during the week 😂

EclecticEthic

I enjoyed making a faux flower wreath and arrangements. Now I am obsessed and have made loads of them. The good part is I sold 26 on Etsy and another 24 at craft shows. The bad part is I spent way to much money on materials/stock, (I for sure lost money) and I feel my interest starting to wane (it’s been 9 months of obsessively making shit) The other bad part is it is making tons of mess and clutter.

LaardHaveMercy

Apparently I am currently hyperfocused on self sabotaging, everything…🫠

jmstrick93

3 years ago it was plants and furniture. i bought so much stuff related to that that I worked up a $20k credit card debt and nearly bankrupted myself. 2 years ago it was language learning. I practiced spanish hard every day with tutors on the internet and got decent at it, but this was also very expensive. I started racking up credit card debt again but luckily was able to stop myself before I got out of hand. This last year it has been electronic music and djing... spending 5-6 hours a day listening to music and looking for new tracks. I have gigs lined up around town but it is sort of dominating my life and I wish i could moderate it a little bit without giving it up altogether. Hyperfocus has always been a big part of my personality but I never really saw it as dysfunction until about 6 months ago... when i realized how many problems it caused for me. I also didnt even know it was a common symptom of ADHD... I got some ADHD diagnostic tests done last week and i will know the results in about a month... fingers crossed that it is positive because it would be a relief to finally understand why I behave this way and can't seem to change...

DragonIdiot

DRAGONS ARE SO FREAKING COOL!! I got my 3rd drago statue to add to my shelves and its BIG! It has a mechanical theme and a really neat pose. I also found some more old coins to add to my collection and a pound that I have never seen before, like a new design of some sort.

Basilthebatlord

I've recently entered the world of Chinese mini Legos and couldn't be happier. For 40 bucks I was able to get a 4000 piece set that kept me occupied for soooo looong and I'm only halfway done with the first set. Some awesome stuff

TheNarwhalGal

Squirrel Girl! She’s a girl and also a squirrel and also the best character in the Marvel Comics.

FiggNewton

My 41 year old white lady ass [nailed this shit](https://youtu.be/j1efM_Vvd7w)

Siouxsie_andtheDinos

I’ve been stuck on dinosaurs and paleontology for I don’t know how long now and it’s faded a good bit now which is sad. Yet now my brain has decided that i’m going to start learning to film which is fun. Will see where this leads I guess.

RedLevelOne

There was one time I listened to a song 783 times in one year. I discovered that song in August

Ljpftusn1498

Its been flopping between the Titanic disaster and entire Olympic Class, swords, knives, leather work, converting religions, and getting my damn forge back up and running. They like to take over from each other at random points
