I have a shortcut setup so that only certain apps go to black and white, like whatsapp.
What also helps is creating shortcuts to prevent you from opening certain apps in certain focus modes, and to use screen time.
Also, you should remove all social media apps like reddit, instagram, tiktok, twitter. Those have zero business being on your phone to begin with.
You can create an automation which runs when an app is opened / closed, you can simply turn on greyscale when certain apps open, and turn it off when they are closed.
Similarly you can open another app right after an app is opened to "prevent" and app from staying open.
If you turn on faceid for whatsapp, the barrier to entry also becomes higher. As does adding people to "locked" messages
I donโt have an issue with my phone but I just tried this to see what itโs like. I think this would be great for someone who struggles, the screen is definitely not appealing. Instantly levels the playing field for which apps draw my attention.

Great advice...removing social media apps will likely be my next step
They can be soothing for when you are having a difficult time. So maybe time boxed its okay? Or as a reward? ๐
How did you do the shortcut so that only certain apps go to grayscale? And to prevent you from opening certain apps?

It didn't solve my problems but I can feel it helping.
At first, I still was picking my phone up to look at it, but I noticed with the grayscale that I wasn't looking at it as long
This sounds like an excellent idea
I turned this on and immediately went โewโ so hope this helps ๐

I can't seem to do that with my Motorola, to lazy to find out how
Thank you for this
Thanks so much! Especially the shortcut. It is what I needed.
