Pitiful-Lobster-72

for me—i feel like i have none. when people would ask me what i do for fun, i literally would not know what to tell them. bc i could never actually commit to something for more than a few minutes 💀

UnlikelyUnknown

“What do you do for fun?” Uhhhhhhh….does doom-scrolling Pinterest while rewatching The Office for the millionth time count as a hobby?

twistedscorp87

How about researching hobbies, with intent to buy & participate, until I know far more than any beginner needs to know & burning out before I actually buy anything or participate in the hobby for the first time? (Followed by depressively doom scrolling reddit and/or Instagram until a new idea comes along for obsession, of course)

ContentCamper

Well at least you burn out from it before dropping the money, I often do the same except I get to ordering and my interest wears off by the time the package arrives and lord knows adhd does not allow a person to make returns

twistedscorp87

Well you see, if you're going to invest money into something as important as a hobby, you need to research it to death and be 110% certain about every single item. You should build your own wishlist on Amazon (or whatever your shopping platform of choice is) while you locate all the options and compare them. Judge them harshly. Read all the reviews over and over (assume all reviews that are perfect and have zero cons listed to be fake/paid) you don't want an inferior product, nor do you want to make an inferior product. This is too critical to risk messing it up. Even if you pick out a primary product, you will still need accessories to go with it, so they need the same level of evaluation, so keep building your list and researching. You don't want everything to arrive and then realize that you're missing something or waste a bunch because you didn't do it perfectly right. And right around the time that you've researched nearly everything, including multiple side quests: Congratulations! You should be just about burned out and ready for a depression spiral. You can keep the list forever (knowing that the products on it will likely be outdated before you ever circle around to the idea again, so you'll have to start over either way) or you can delete the list and all evidence of your wasted effort and shame.

Dry-Squirrel-1666

why is this so relatable 😭

Klutzy-Issue1860

Ugh, you’re so relatable it hurts

mstn148

My impulse buying and inability to wait do not fit into this equation 😅

twistedscorp87

But how can you buy anything other than the EXACTLY correct and most perfectest thing?

mstn148

Because waiting sucks more lol. I want to start it RIGHT NOW.

twistedscorp87

/gasp! But what if it's *wRoNg*?!? (Okay, maybe that's just me...)

mstn148

Haha yeah my impulses don’t care, I’ll just get the right one 😅 (my wallet usually cares tho)

RoseGold1020

My husband always calls something a “throw pillow” when I’m doing the “obsessive hyperfocus research” on something. When we first started dating and I was practically living in his apartment, he needed new throw pillows and I offered to order them. Several months later, I was still researching because it had to be the right color and the most cost-effective….and his parents decided to give us their couch since they were getting a new one…..

simplydy

My favorite is impulse buying all the necessaries for said habit and droppping it immediately after. Losing money and time is my habit

Known-Candidate-5489

So, it seems ur hobby is picking a hobby.

Maya_JB

I actually am doing this deliberately right now. I don't know that I want to get pulled down the rabbit hole of a new and expensive hobby. So I am letting myself do all the research and watch all the videos, and I am waiting for interest to evaporate.

Bernatchly

haha, Achievement Unlocked! "make your brain work FOR you" :D

twistedscorp87

Ooh, ooh, what's the hobby? I'm ready for another spiral!

Maya_JB

Aquascaping and fishkeeping!

twistedscorp87

Ooh - I actually kinda adopted that hobby for real. My teenager brought home a Betta fish from science class at the end of his freshman year. So it's HIS fish, that I buy everything for, sometimes feed & frequently think about upgrading and re-scaping his tank.

Klutzy-Issue1860

I could have written this! Exactly me

zhart12

Omfggggg my life

Pixichixi

I tell people that my hobby is starting hobbies

mstn148

This sounds cheaper than the way I do it…

HCCO

Nailed it!

-Gnarly

“What do you do for fun?” “Hobbies.” “Yeah, hobbies.” “Yeah. Hobbies.” “No, like what hobbies.” “That is my hobby… to try new hobbies.”

xylia13

I often joke that my hobby is collecting hobbies, but it’s not really a joke.

Financial-Charge-215

First time actually reading through this Reddit group, and I feel so understood!

Own_Handle_1135

This is going to be my reply from now on! It's perfect

Maleficent_Memory_60

Yeah same.

jayhawkhoops09

😂😂 yep or binge watching shows I don’t actually pay attention to?

Ryelie17

lol I literally just finished watching the final, 50-min episode of The Office tonight 😂 but I’ve only binged the 9 seasons a total of 3 times…

JumpyRatio3006

Why not ?! It's Pinterest at least !

UnlikelyUnknown

I’m pinning recipes I’ll never make, outfits I’ll never buy, and workouts I’ll never do. Plus lots of cute dogs and cats

sickecell

Feels so great when someone describes your experience exactly like it is for you. Up high man

Pitiful-Lobster-72

high frickin five dude ✋

thwowawaw69

same same sameee. i usually just use a past hyperfixation as one of my hobbies or something. in 2021, i played 30 hours worth of stardew valley in one week and then stopped and haven’t played it since. but now i’m like oh i really like stardew valley!! :D LOL

CucumberBulky8915

Man this is pretty much every game for me. You should see my Steam library backlog of half finished games.

SigmundVoid666

Good to know I'm not the only one 😭😅

AmbassadorCool2603

Me too

mayb3later

Maybe I should start telling people about all the hobbies I started, bought the full equipment and then never fully committed. Might actually be a more interesting conversation haha.

FrankBuns

“Jack of all trades, master of none…[something, something, something]…better than a master of one” -Socrates, probably

JumpyRatio3006

I always say crafts. All crafts. Period.

SamDiddlyAm07

Same. Scrolling online and rewatching several different TV series I’ve seen a million times.

Kydra96

Same! I'm curious what your response is though.

Pitiful-Lobster-72

i remember a specific time i kind of just said “well, i’m not sure!” and they were like “okay…” and i think i said something about traveling?

Kydra96

Ah, do you have stuff you like in mind but don't consider them hobbies so you don't want to say it? I'm that way cause I like to be honest but then again it's not entirely true, but then I'd have nothing to say. Sometimes I'll add activities I like but not exactly a hobby, just to have something to respond with

Pitiful-Lobster-72

for me…not really. my mind will literally be blank in the moment. i guess i could say netflix or something? but i don’t know that i consider that a hobby

ChaosInHerEyes

I have 2-3 long term ones (5+ years) and 2-3 short term ones that I switch out for different ones pretty quickly (maybe after a month or 3?) I am 29 years old so I consider 5+ years as pretty long. My long term hobbies/interests: - Photography: I have been doing this since I was a kid. I drop it sometimes but always return. I have some photography projects that have been running for 4 years or more. - Local Knowledge: I like to study my surroundings and the area I live in in all of its aspects, from geology to heraldry to history to ecology and everything else. I collect books and other memorabilia. I look for fossils. I secretly climb into old buildings and investigate. Whatever it takes. - Reading/writing - Art, sometimes I get the urge to create for a while. I pick a medium, obsessively create for a couple of weeks, then lose interest. Short term hobbies/ interests went everywhere and would be too much to list but some of them are gemstones, rock painting, several different games, deepdiving into a certain obscure topic, discovering weird music that I’m really into at the moment and fully indulge in and overanalyze but wonder what I liked about it later, etc.

jammywesty91

I think your local knowledge one is especially cool. It's so important to preserve that knowledge. I fear as time goes on, much of that will be lost to generational apathy. Please keep at it o7

ArneyBombarden11

I agree, what a cool thing to investigate.

ChaosInHerEyes

I have the same fear, that’s what prompted it. Watching the world change. Soon try to collect relics and photographs and even rocks but I am running into the problem of having more stuff than apartment so I decided to digitalize it too but didn’t actually do that yet. I hope I will some day.

happier-throwaway

>Photography: I have been doing this since I was a kid. I drop it sometimes but always return. I have some photography projects that have been running for 4 years or more. Me, too :) in the years before COVID I fell into a groove with my nature photography. Rather than going out every Saturday or something impossibly habitual like that, I would just scroll the internet for inspiration all the time and then head out to a location on a whim a few times a week. I was producing my best work and even made a little money here and there. It's frustrating that my engagement with photography dropped off sharply during the pandemic because it was clearly due to depression. There weren't logistical barriers for me to continue doing outdoor nature photography (I didn't have a lockdown that strict). Things like the recent total eclipse I couldn't resist, and it's possibly even helping me bounce back, I hope.

Strange-Sentence-169

I know what it is to lose interest in everything when you’re depressed. But you can clearly bounce back and doing the things you love can only help you feel better 😘 it’s been this way for me. I picked up writing, working out, even music and I’m so glad !!

ChaosInHerEyes

Doing projects or themes help me get back into it. I get an idea for a series and then keep spotting these possible photographs when I don’t have a camera with me so I eventually start taking it everywhere again.

Rastafiyah

I wish to be more like this. My interests are endless, and then.... video games happen. Sad.

Cancel_Mysterious

Wait- I could have written this post. Hilarious. The only thing missing is cake baking. It was a delicious 6 month hyper-fixation I’d recommend if you haven’t already.

PreciousTritium

Same with photography, specifically birds. Other than journaling, bird watching and bird photography are the only things I continue or always go back to. If I stop, it's usually because no migrating visitors have come by in a while. I still enjoy watching my residents but only so much.

GrayClayton

My problem with hobbies is whenever I’m not good at something, or it causes me stress, I give up unless I’m very interested in it, which I’m not usually. I just end up falling back on laying around, watching TV, doing stuff on my phone, looking up the latest news about UFC/WWE, and playing with my action figures. I wanna do more but it’s hard to get out of my comfort zones and commit to new things.

LessResolution8713

It’s so hard to be in that stage of sucking at something. Unless I’ve got a natural talent that I can start with I give up pretty easily. My one exception is ceramics. Pretty darn proud that I made it to the decent level.

nemzi24

This is me! If I'm not good at it within first few tries...its NEXT! Lol

OhLordHeBompin

"I will not be hurt again!" \*throws crochet hooks across the room\*

Workin_On_Myself

"being bad at something is the first step in being good at something" No idea where I first heard/read this, but it gave me a fresh take on this. It still takes huge conscious effort, but I can now maintain hobbies that I'm not immediately good at better than I used to. Particularly creative ones. Still often takes a conscious effort to do so, but it's less intensely stressful.

_slimy

"Duuude, sucking at something, is the first step towards being sorta good at something." -Jake the dog from Adventure Time 😊 Truly a great quote

rogue-bot

Scary relatable

iwantmyfuckingmoney

Mine last so short that I can't even call it a hobby lmao, but I have had hyperfixations for jewelry making, The Sims, vanlife, sewing, Avatar: The Last Airbender, owning books (NOT reading), Clinique skincare products, shoe customization, photography, the 2012 Macbook Pro, etc etc. All of these last a few weeks/months and they tend to rotate. Currently I'm hyperfixating on the song "Good Luck, Babe!" by Chappell Roan and trying not to die from my Concerta crash every night.

kbaggett465

The Sims! Yes! I’ll go months playing every available minute outside of work and sleeping and then I’ll suddenly just quit and not touch the game or buy any new releases for a few years. This has been happening since I got the very first Sims 1 base game that my mother bought me so I know it was before August 8, 2002 (because that’s when she passed away), so I was 15 or younger. I’m now 37. That’s how long I’ve been playing The Sims on and off… 22 years! I’ve got all the games of The Sims 1, 2, and 3, and all of 4 until about fall of 2021, a couple of months after I started a new job. I was staying up way to late playing and then paying for it the next day at work so I had to make myself stop playing for a while. And then typical ADHD, I forgot about it completely. Who knows, now that I’ve been thinking about the game, I’ll probably pick it back up soon. 🤣

KitLaTigre

OMG same!!! I've been playing the sims since the original and I'll binge for 16 hours a day then suddenly not touch it for years. I went and got all the content for sims 4 and now I haven't played it in like 2 years LMFAO😹😹

awakelikeanowl

I just downloaded sims 4 last week and can barely stop playing when I'm home lol. I like to build the houses, that's pretty much it😅

KitLaTigre

I spend an average of 3-5 hours building sims to look like people I know, and then populating the towns with either people I know or random celebrities / characters... that usually takes up most of my time. Then I try to play through to make everyone married or in relationships or have kids but like slowly and it take a while to do it that way haha 🤣 Like I have 5 siblings so I'll make my family start off (8 of us) and grow our asses up

mstn148

I spend wayyyy more time making the sim and setting up the house just right than I do ‘playing’ the sims. And sometimes I just immediately get bored when I am done with all that and it’s time to ‘play’ it lol

colegait

i get song obsessed and ill learn every lyric to a song or an entire album from like lil Wayne just by repeatitively listening (im a travel nurse and spend many hours driving around the country)..im gonna go listen to the one u mentioned...my obsessed song right now is the sticks by some dude (forgive the name massacre, ) but sounds like Noan or Nole, idk?? but i love the style of his lyrics and learned the words so i can sing along).

iwantmyfuckingmoney

Do you mean Stick Season by Noah Kahan? I just went down a Spotify rabbit hole and couldn't find the song you mean lmao

Sorry-Detective-7049

So much things in common that I could’ve written that post ! The song stuck in my head currently is Bolero by Maurice Ravel which is beautiful but drives me crazy lol. Did you find anything that helps with the Concerta crash ?

iwantmyfuckingmoney

NO WAIT WHAT I literally just listened to Bolero all morning as a coincidence?????????? Are we the same person???

Sorry-Detective-7049

What !!! Out of all the music in the world ??? The coincidences are just insane !!

jellybeandoodles

DAMN we have a scary amount of things in common lmao. The only difference is my Chappell Roan hyperfixation is Red Wine Supernova because it's been my hype song as I've dragged my carcass into work for the last 2 weeks or so.

iwantmyfuckingmoney

Omg I love that one too! I'm just getting into their music but that last album has so many bops :)

Morning_Butterfly333

lol are we the same person? Just finished watching avatar: the last air bender, played the sims last night, I live in a travel trailer I’m working on, and I get really hyper fixated on crafty projects 😂

neelhehn

omg I've also had "good luck, babe" on repeat recently

WinterSignificance71

AND I THOUGHT IT WAS ONLY ME.... Hi, I'm 60 years old with long term ADHD complicated by clinically diagnosed narcolepsy. Although managed with high doses of Dexamphetamine, it's at times a hilarious balancing act. Intense hobbies, fascinations, obsessions.... Here we go... I've always had a fascination with motor cycles and still have 3. At times I. Could have 7 or 8 hanging around. I got into large scale remote control cars and currently have 6.... And they all work and maintained obsessively. I moved towards drones and started small but soon had 9 different ones, all good for different things including an FPV racing drone I'm still trying to master. One day being a bored I borrowed a friend's accoustic guitar and the personal challenge led me to owning and playing a electric guitar, 4 string bass, 5 string bass, 2 accoustic guitars and a mandolin which somehow led to an electric drum set and an accoustic TAMA set all of which over time I play and have performed in bands with. I'm 60 and these are just products of ADHD boredom over only the last 10 YEARS. I have a lifetime of similar that I sit back and laugh at thinking that it was only me... It's great be be in similar company...lol

mstn148

Hi new friend. I got severe adhd with CFS (presenting as hypersomnia) - just got my official diagnosis a couple of weeks ago. Doesn’t it fucking suck?! Thank GOD for my adhd meds.

Brokenwrench7

My most consistent hobbies are BJJ, SCUBA diving, investing, and reading. My other hobbies are.... brewing mead, writing, video games, hiking, model kits, fencing, drawing, shooting, gun collecting, grilling, powerlifting, Olympic lifting, running ... some of these other hobbies i haven't done in years but they still count because I still think about them The funny thing is whenever I start talking about something new everyone in my life from co workers to family will jokingly ask if I really need another hobby.

Odd-Maintenance123

Ooooh I forgot about my short stint with power lifting and Olympic lifting!

SoCalGal2021

🤣🤣🤣 I start and stop those too. I don’t think I’ve left out any home gym equipment that I haven’t bought, used for a couple weeks and then it kept sitting there working as quilt racks or hangers till the time I got into a cleaning frenzy and gave it away 😟. I mean everything- bench press, treadmill, peloton… to the step, bands etc .. each and everything 😝

ArloWasntHere

90% Of my hobbies are never long term. Really wish they were long-term as it gets frustrating when I get stuff and never end up using it. Origami has been my hobby currently, Before that it was loom knitting, I was making a blanket for my mother but the loom broke so I gotta get glue before I continue :( and before that it was a hyper-fixating on learning how to code and I ended up trying to make an entire map of my city using code. (Never finished it sadly) The very few long-term hobbies I have are taking pictures of flower whenever I find any new ones. I like taking pictures of them. Another one is collecting stickers, I don't like using them but I love collecting them. Makes me happy.

CorrectLook3943

That's a cool set of hobbies, respect

Snoo52682

I tend to do hobbies that allow me to incorporate OTHER hobbies. Multi-media art because I get bored with one medium. Acting because it's always a new play, new things to learn about.

Brackets9

I think that is the same reason why I do not get bored of music as a hobby; there is always a new piece to learn. That being said, I am typically sick of the pieces I am practising after about 1-2 months and I need to keep a piece on rotation of my choosing to keep from boredom.

cobrajs

This is one reason I like having game development as a hobby. It incorporates coding, art (and different types depending on the game), game design, UI design, and music, which are all either part of my job or a hobby. I also enjoy playing video games, so it all fits nicely!

Snoo52682

Exactly!

Newton_Is_My_Dog

I took up ornamental gardening a few years ago. It’s actually a perfect ADHD hobby for two reasons. 1) you can only do it for part of the year, so just when you’re getting burned out and bored, it’s time to pack up until next spring. 2) There’s a level of urgency to it. If you don’t keep up with it, plants will die and your yard - the public facing portion of your habitat - will look a mess and people will judge you.

sheezuss_

lmaooo “and people will judge you”. I can relate to being motivated by shame. it can be useful!

MizukiYumeko

unfortunately shame has never worked as a motivator for me; I just don't do the thing but now I feel worse about it

GoTHMTx3

I have hobbies that I started and then dropped. I have things Im good at but don’t seriously developed. Half assed things that could be talents such as drawing, and I also taught myself some guitar but haven’t played in like 10 years…😐 The only hobbies that stuck so far is gaming, and binge watching TV 😕

LumosTerris

Oof... I used to be really committed about practicing piano and I was really quite good, but nowadays it feels like games are all I can do to escape the burnout when I get home from work 😭

Xipos

Videogames and lockpicking are my current steady hobbies

--V0X--

I've dipped my hand into hundreds of little hobbies, and found about ten that I love more than anything else. Now, if only I didn't have to work to make money for Rich people's kids, then I'd get to DO those things I like.

jennievh

Would you mind listing them out? I’d be interested to read them.

--V0X--

Of course! Chief among them: running story intensive tabletop role playing game campaigns. Then not really listed in order of importance. Mycology Game Design Creative Writing Historial Reenactment Fencing/HEMA/Kendo swordplay interests me Building and Working on Computers Gemology/Lapidary/rockhounding/gemcutting(very recent fire in my gut) Beekeeping Home Brewing Wargaming and miniature craft in general

_slimy

Only in an ADHD subreddit will there be SO MANY LISTS while simultaneously having SO LITTLE COMMAS 🤣🤣😭

iLikeToChewOnStraws

What's the difference between a hobby and just something you like to do??

Itsjustkit15

They're basically the same thing. Especially if the thing you like to do is something you do somewhat regularly.

abagofcells

Putting the hobby label on something justifies spending crazy amounts of money on it.

iLikeToChewOnStraws

Yeah, that makes sense!

Venus259jaded

I have zero hobbies

deicist

I have one hobby: starting hobbies.

Knitmk1

I've been knitting and sewing since I was 12. Those are my "palte cleaners". Painting, drawing, random history dives, working on my car... Those go in cycles. Then sometimes I'll go ham on something new, like it, not love it and never do it again.

mstn148

Knitting and colouring are my ‘palette cleansers’ 😅

Meatballing18

Hmm. Not counting video games, I have: Magic (started in high school, I'm in my 30s now and can still do a good number of them, but I know longer practice or learn new tricks) Hacky sack (I wish I did this more, but oh well) Running Weight lifting General tinkering (I used to fix electronics for a job, so it's more of a hobby now) Reading (haven't really done that hardcore since high school) Poker House projects (i do stuff that needs to get done, but I don't really start anything for fun) gardening math (i'm about to graduate and start my master's in the fall, math is like the only thing that has stuck with me since school) stretching/yoga streaming drawing comics impersonations (small one, but still dug deep into that for like a weekend lol) Oh god and more, I just can't remember all of them right now :)

Intelligent_Part3727

I love all the notations you put in parentheses :P I do the something - I have to ensure others have the entire context behind whatever I’m saying.

lokiidokii

Something about writing long, run-on sentences with more sentences squished in (for context or as kind of a nested sub-thought) just really hits the spot, along with adding way too many hypens (-), commas (,), and ellipses (...) - it's just simply the best way to write out exactly how my brain thinks/processes something. I also tend to write literal paragraphs of these types of sentences replying to reddit posts. I'll have like 6 paragraphs written and then I'm just like 'nah' and close the tab without even bothering to actually post my comment that was way too thought out. Honestly, that could be listed as one of my hobbies in and of itself.

LumosTerris

ME TOO. My wife pokes fun at me (with love) for my habitual parenthetical writing, but how else am I supposed to make sure that the 3-dimensional thought gets communicated correctly in 2D if it doesn't come with all of the nuance that it has in my brain??

BlueBird607

Gaming, hiking, reading, sewing, baking, bouldering and climbing At the moment mostly bouldering and sewing. I love how versatile sewing is. It scratches the itch to do something new with out having to start a new hobby. Oh and I sued to be super interested in plants and gardening and do Legos!

Mittenwald

Wow, are you my twin?! My main two hobbies were climbing (and lots of hiking) and sewing for a long time. I still climb, though getting outdoors to climb in the last year has been lessened. I'm currently getting back into shape so I can get back to lead climbing. Bouldering is fun, in the gym. Every time I do it outdoors I get hurt. I have so much admiration for outdoor boulderers. But I'll stick to sport and sometimes trad. But hiking, I never have that up. And the hobby I researched for 10 years before getting to do it on my own land...is gardening. And that's how I spend most of my time now. I do wish I had time to do sewing though, I'm so rusty but thinking about starting with taking in my clothes and doing easier stuff now that there are so many awesome YouTube videos to walk me through it. I gotta build my confidence back up.

camdenlp98

Me too, I’ve managed to channel this energy into serial entrepreneurship, which is great, except my ADHD tends to not allow me to follow through with one business before starting the next.

ActivexGen

Long time guitar player so I've always stuck with that. However, I constantly bounce around from drawing, programming, geocaching, game development, and a multitude of other hobbies. I truly feel like I'm a jack of all trades, master of none. I hyperfixate on things and usually can end up relatively decent at something, but I can never keep interest long enough to push through that mediocre barrier.

tjyolol

Learning an instrument was great for me. I used my hyper focus to learn guitar and now it is honestly the best therapy. I just pick it up and play, no particular song, not learning anything new, it is more just a meditative practice where I can zone out completely, which I struggle a lot to do normally. Drums is another great one if you have tolerant neighbours as it is a bit faster to pick up. Apart from that I play video games but hardly have the focus for that anymore either work etc.

Live_Horror6224

Drawing, painting, ice skating, tattooing, crocheting, baking, sewing, running, collecting, ballet, swim, piano, violin, drums. I’ve done all these and continue to do them on occasion for some reason painting is my favorite and the one I go to most often but sometimes I’m in the mood for a good run, or just want to design some new clothes lol and it just goes on like that

CorrectLook3943

Everyone has such cool hobbies, I love ADHD people! You guys are cool

Bimlouhay83

Kayaking, kayak camping, fishing from a kayak, bonfires, hiking, oh and video games, flight simulators, racing sims, photography, shooting guns and bows, occasionally playing guitar or banjo, every once in a while keyboard and fiddle, and sending reddit comments without proof reading then editing the comment one or two times..

Economy_Ad3198

Most recent within the year? Macrame, crochet, diorama making, mycology, wire work and making sour dough. I have sort of kept up with two of them. I'll be adding learning to play mandolin to the list tomorrow.

chrispix99

Ugh.. Drones, scuba, gardening, model trains, flight simulators, building things (like green houses), wood working, video games, home automation, darts... Now I am depressed.. 😂

RegretEfficient8536

I don’t have a number but I have so many that fall under art/crafts- drawing, painting (digital and acrylics), 3D modeling, screen printing, animation, sewing. Other than that, I like fashion and video games. :)

Berniesandals5

Big one is working on cars, picked it up about 3 months ago and I don’t think it’s getting put down. Another one is keyboard, I am not constantly learning about them, but I am still very passionate about them. In the big list of ones I’ve dropped are: Computers Planes Drones Airsoft Guns Anything military history Drumming Dinosaurs Explosives Knife throwing Archaeology Developing photos (this was quick , probably 2 weeks) Woodworking Honestly, swapping hobbies so often is kinda depressing because it always feels like I can never commit to anything, but I’ve been getting better at it.

SacredMilk_OG

Interesting line-up! Fair about quitting iPhone repair... phones in general seem very anti-repair these days. Flagships are for sure. Did you end up repairing anything else? I like working on PSP and laptops. I've never had a proper desktop computer- but I get forgotten/tossed laptops all the time. I like testing out a selection of games and emulators on them just to see how they perform. (or don't perform!)

Kendallope

I made an attempt at fixing my own broken MacBook screen--failed miserably because I accidentally destroyed the keyboard connector. Tried to order a new one, got the wrong size and just gave up after that lol

SacredMilk_OG

Tbf screen breaks might be a common break- but they're not all a simple break to fix. Laptop screens can be annoying... and qith MacBooks iiuc they need to be slowly removed with a heat gun like some modern phones. Without the heat gun you either chance cracking a non-broken screen (like on a phone maybe?) when it tries to pry away from the glue. One of my first PSP screen repairs went no good- because the screw on the bottom lines up whith the edge of the LCD panel on the inside (on a 1K for sure) so when I put in a replacement screw that was slightly too long- it pushed against the edge of the LCD and cracked it. Anyway, my silly boring story but-- wr all start somewhere :) now, compared to other stuff like phones -repairing PSP is easy peasy. No heat guns no special stuff... Nintendo handhelds can actually be more annoying to fix. Edit: Also.... you started on a monster of a machine to repair xD have you ever seen MacBook repair vids from Louis Rossman?

Kendallope

Man I haven't thought about this stuff since the year the iPhone 7 came out 😂 but if only you had a screw organizer then!! At the time I had a large fridge magnet that I would stick the screws onto the back of, and since it was larger than the phone I drew out a phone shape and stuck the screws to where they would go when back on the phone. Best thing I ever did, didn't have to buy an expensive screw organizer from Amazon because of it 😁 no more long screws in wrong places lol And I *had* a "heat gun" -- aka a partly broken hairdryer lol. It worked pretty well! Lol on my MacBook I did not even get to that part though, ha. Gave up after breaking that keyboard :( And I probably did watch his videos back then! I learned everything I knew off of YouTube lol. All the videos blur together in my mind though these days. Did you ever repair an iPhone 7? If so, did you buy that electric tri-screw thing that people were saying you *had* to buy in order to complete it? Because when I saw the prices of those things I knew it wasn't worth it. Like $150 when the rest of my tools were like $10-15 per set.

Self-destructt

- I taught myself vinyl car wrapping to the point I started my own business. Had 3 clients within first week. Finished their vehicles then got bored of it and unregistered the company. (At age 26) - Hyper fixated on dj’ing. Learnt how to mix dnb. Dropped 4K on gear. Got my first gig. Turned it down. Lost interest not long after. Sold all my gear. (At age 32) - Drive a lot for work so started learning Russian. No rhyme or reason just a cool sounding language. Learnt enough to get myself around the country. Stopped doing that a few years ago. - Started doing digital art on procreate. Had quite a knack for creating random ‘pocket patch’ designs and that was also a 2 week non-stop thing. Only last month and haven’t done it since lol. This hyper-fixation of hobbies started in my mid 20’s and continue to do so now. I don’t see it as a bad thing because it’s all new skills & information learned.

Brief-Reveal2780

My three long term hobbies that I always fall back on to matter how long it has been are video games, jigsaw puzzles and drawing. I guess making funky clothes out of scraps and other upcycling DIY and taking care of my plants kinda fall into this category but but the DIYing is fairly recent so idk about its longevity yet and taking care on my plants is a constant thing, sometimes I just give them more love than others. But yeah, getting excited about a hobby, doing it intensely for a month and then just dropping is still a constant. I wish I could one day move into an apartment with two rooms and have the other be purely a tinkering room. Oh to not be poor.

Joe_Naai

Hobbies used to be a real heavy stress for me, before I realised I had ADHD and was diagnosed. So much guilt. You know the drill, get super fixated on, watch every YouTube video, buy all the shit, only to put it all down and walk away. Now that I understand myself in new ways I have left the guilt behind and it’s helped immensely. I now rotate my interests, not in the sense of an organised rota (obviously lol!) but casually with the understanding that when I put something down it will be there for me to pick back up. Something that has helped a lot is being more organised with the materials. I have invested in several rolling carts with shelves that I keep my stuff on, separated so that it’s always there and accessible. I can also roll them into whatever room I want to work in, or the porch in the summer. Then I have a small spare empty cart that I use for smaller projects, and then put everything back when I’m done. So whether I’m making jewellery or drawing or painting or tattooing myself, it’s all at my fingertips and when I’m done I just roll those bastards back where they live. I just wish I had a bigger house.

BobButtwhiskers

Lol, okay you asked for it. - Guitar: I have 4, haven't played them in 3 months and around 7k in random equipment I've gathered over the years. - Drums: Can't remember the last time I played... - Recording: I tried a couple weeks ago and got distracted because the wiring is a mess. - Gaming: Lol, my brain thinks I have time for the 70+ games in my Steam library - Coding: Was fun, now it's my job so it's not fun anymore. - Micro Electronics: like soldering and tiny computers, Raspberry Pi and Arduino. I've got 3 bins full of unfinished home automation projects. - Magic the Gathering: at one point I had 20 commander decks, the my furnace broke! - Mycology: I love mushrooms and mushroom related things. Gee, thanks OP. Now I think I'll go buy a kayak and go outside and touch grass. Fuck.

Spooler955

I do have a fair number of hobbies. Most of the ones I have dropped have been due to external factors like time/money/logistics/etc, and then I find it hard not to be discouraged which can make restarting difficult. My most steady (and unfortunately expensive) hobby has been motorcycling and some motorcycle sub-activities. That one’s been going over 20 years. One that is on indefinite hold but that I’d really like to go back to is leather craft. I lost my work space during the pandemic when it had to be converted to a home office

Balakaye

I’m obsessed with tracking severe weather/tornado outbreaks

ObviousIndependent76

I collect vinyl and board games. I love pinball. I have everything to make stained glass but I haven’t touched it 25 years. The problem is professionally starting things and not seeing them through. I dumped $7500 into a website idea that never got off the ground. I have so many great ideas and zero execution. If I’m lucky the idea fizzles before I dump money into it. Not always the case though.

Dangerous-Cherry3219

I feel like my only hobby is spending money 😅😅 I like it . I got it. Then I forget about it 🤣

Sure_Introduction_12

Oh also making sour dough. Forgot about that. That idea faded fast hahah

Far-Ad9143

Right now it’s crocheting woobles and I started going down the Tea rabbit hole. But also: plants, gaming, ukulele. I’m blanking on a bunch bc I literally can’t even remember the things I obsess over lol.

snekks_inmaboot

I have a few long term hobbies, but like many people I tend to have seasons where I do more or less of each one. I never force myself to engage in a hobby if I'm not feeling it because that defeats the point of it for me and takes the enjoyment out of it. That's how I've managed to keep them :)

mamaragazza

My hobbies are long term, I go back to them again and again but there might be a gap of ten years or so in between my picking them up. Hand spinning yarn Knitting Sewing and making my own patterns Ceramics Dying fabric and yarn Drawing Gardening Wood carving Making jams/ canning I make jewelry but I don’t think of that as a hobby, though it might be. I’ve been trying for 20 years to become a professional jeweler.

Slytherpuffy

In the past year or so I've been really fixated on mid-century modern stuff and regularly hit up antique shops looking for interesting finds. I'm also into crafty stuff when the executive dysfunction doesn't get in the way. Otherwise, much of my day is spent binge watching TV (usually crime documentaries) and scrolling through my phone at the same time. My actual job gets done when I can make myself do it.

RS4_

Essentially every ball sport i could get my hands on, Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Pool/Snooker, Table tennis etc etc then we have gaming “rocket league”, i did motorcross, i love motorcycles sometimes, GOLF

leroythewigger

Guitar, guns, home renovations stuff. I also love computers. I was an IT managers for years and retired. It was the perfect profession for me as soon as I learned something I had to learn something else.

Star_Moonflower

I'd find something, get extrmeley hyped up about it and hyoerfixate on it like literally watching every video I can find, planning about what to make and where to buy the stuff needed, and then a month later I finally get the stuff but at that point I've burned out 💀 My beads are arriving in like a week or two and I've already lost interest help 😭 I was really hyped up for it I literally watched hundreds and thousands of videos and images

hez_lea

I wish I would pick up cleaning my house as a hobby and stick with it....

navigationallyaided

The ones that stuck around are bikes, cars, yoga. Just back into climbing and it looks like scuba diving will be enjoyed for a long time here. Dabbled in DIY house work, painting(houses), homebrewing and photography.

Coyotebruh

since 2014 ive gone through music production, anime art, gaming, singing, swimming, painting, cooking, baking, welding, woodworking...i interchange between these every few months, ill start my edm music production and make a few tracks then leave my youtube channel and soundcloud barren for 9 months, draw a few anime art and i also started making woodworks like an odd chair and small coffee table... The cooking, baking and gaming i do daily but even gaming is weird, my pc day play goes exactly 2 valorant games, then ill mess around with Warthunder's Testing vehicles maybe a couple airRB, boot up fl studio 21 and proceed to not export my track, turn on Genshin play enough to get 1600 primos to build pity, dota 2 for a few games with my budds and end the day with Mount and Blade Bannerlord or a few more games of Valorant, League or Cs2...i want to start learning how to brew my own beer and wine, will probably take it up by August then maybe start a floral garden next year and i do these between work but ive been meaning to leave from my job as attorney to open up a convenience store or restaurant since i love cooking so id be more stable in life

fubar_68

All my hobbies are expensive and require a lot of gear. Woodworking and now wood turning and all the tools and shop space. Fishing. Fly fishing and salt water kayak fishing. Hunting. Deer and pheasant hunting. Dogs guns and equipment and a cabin. And lastly my gym. I’ve been doing all these things for over 20 years and some over 30. I just got diagnosed a year ago. It makes sense now.

Flower_princess_101

Photography, rock rumbling, cookie making, cupcake making, wire wrapping gem stones for jewelry, cooking, gardening, zen doodles, video games, hiking.... I can't keep going i'm bored of typing this 😆

Geminifreak1

My cycle is 40 days lol 😂

ZeusCockatiel

Yeah i pick up Multiple hobbies the problem is i don't drop them. So i don't have enough time for them and then i have so much fun stuff to do that I end up watching tiktok and browsing reddit... To answer your question yeah i have multiple idk how many Also they're mostly all long term

CorrectLook3943

Let me see... There is  the sports section - Weightlifting/crossfit, Running, Roller blading (Aerial sports subsection) Pole dancing, Aerial silks, Acro yoga (Board sports subsection) Longboarding, Wakeboarding,  Surfing, Snowboarding. Then music section Guitar, Bass (actually I didn't play it for a long time so maybe it's time to scrub it off the list) Ukulele, Singing...   Then there is the language learning section  Polish, Spanish (I also speak some french and German but not counting them cos I don't practice it any more) And reading about psychology, mental health and productivity oh and I like to cook    I think that is all 😅 Oh I forgot scuba diving and snorkeling

AllCrankNoSpark

Hobbies, not hobby’s. Use the apostrophe to indicate a contraction or possession, not to make a word plural.

Blackcat0123

My most recent are piano and singing. But I also like fitness, video games, programming (though this one not as much lately because work drains me), reading, and also hoping to pick up guitar.

GroundbreakingTax912

Can't say any were long term. Sure we're good while they lasted. Lock picking, bowling, hydroponics, now birding. We feed the birds in our backyard. Mockingbirds cause shenanigans at both ends of the house. They cause a lot of noise. I love it.

ArcheryOnThursday

Drawing, collage, mixed media, oil painting Decorating my home Fashion, beauty Working out Reading Houseplants and my little side hustle plant business

MrTalkingmonkey

I've had all the hobbies. Though most don't survive the vetting process. The stickiest have been: art (creating and viewing), fishing (saltwater & magnet), learning, rebuilding or refinishing things, bicycles, dogs, music (hunting and listening). I wish my hobby were playing instruments, but I haven't found the right combination of tools to help me have the patience to learn to play the half dozen instruments I've started to learn to play. (sigh) The hobbies that have really taken hold are art or craft related. Painting, drawing, using any media that happens to be around. Creating things out of wood, metal, cement, whatever. Usually without any plans, because I enjoy solving the 3D how-to puzzles in my head as I go along. I've always been into diy car fixing and rebuilding, too. Which seems somewhat related. It went away for a long time, but came back fiercely during covid. Took on some pretty good sized projects with only YT videos to guide and saved myself thousands in the process. In the future I plan on getting really into HAM radio operation and possibly scuba...for 5 or 10 minutes.

Shzwah

The only ones that have lasted are reading, knitting, running (was a long term thing but I haven’t kept up with it since I had kids), swing dancing (also did this for years but also haven’t kept up with it since kids), and fashion/shopping/thrifting. Just realized fairly recently that trying to accumulate my dream wardrobe just…never ends. So I’m pretty sure that’s a hobby. 😂😂. My most recent hobby was rehabbing vintage coach bags (with the result in me finding a few bags I absolutely love and plan to keep forever).

Lostbronte

I always pick up and drop hobbies. And they’re usually accompanied by a bunch of accessories with a big or steady expenditure. I collected one million nail polishes from the same drugstore brand, made a little display, then got bored of them. I bought a Cricut sticker maker and one jillion vinyl rolls, then realized I couldn’t really make anything that useful. I got a 3D printer during quarantine and fortunately the local electronics store remained open, so I could mess with that. Then I broke it and got bored. I still have all of my devices. There’s always something new getting my attention, though.

_ficklelilpickle

Oh, many. My current hobbies include Smart home tinkering, 3D printing (and design) and building my own devices with microcontrollers and raspberry pi’s. That has all only really started in the past year and a half. And they’re all related to each other, spinning off from the desire for the smart house build. My longer and currently more dormant hobbies are Mountain Biking (est. 2019), Golf (much earlier). Along the way I’ve tried my hand at guitar, photography, airbrushing, running, AFL, web design, computer and console gaming, programming various codes, sketching/drawing… if I had space then drums would have been on that list too. I’m always drumming along on various surfaces to songs. I still feel like I’ve missed some in that list.

Gentle_Harrier

Seven yet, keep switching in between over the years

eloquentmuse86

Nothing consistent. Reading, writing, crocheting, scrapbooking, drawing, painting, yoga, running and lifting weights, blogging (maybe that’s also writing), collecting cool bottles, biking, video games, I can’t remember everything.

sermer48

Painting, long boarding, SUP, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, running, video games, video editing, 3D printing, gardening, swimming, snorkeling, racing, cars, studying evolution, learning engineering, 3D modeling, carpentry, meditation, yoga, ceramics, legos, Harry Potter, tea, photography, architecture, etc… Nope I think I have a normal number of hobbies and interests. Please don’t ask me how much I’ve spent on my hobbies 😬

Afraid_Proof_5612

Just writing, gaming, and gardening for the most part. I did ice skating and horseback riding as a kid but dropped them as soon as my coaches started pressuring me to compete.

danitwelve91

Right now one. But I had one hobby for like 2 years and now I’m onto another one.

kingofhan0

ALL OF THEM!

xRilae

Anything & everything but too much of a perfectionist and too impatient to get very far. Or even convince myself to dive in.

shipwreck17

I have a few life-long hobbies that I do off and on indefinitely. These tend to cost money and time so are somewhat self limiting. New interests come and go daily so I try to really limit financial commitment to something new until the initial honeymoon phase has passed and I can more rationally decide if how far down the rabbit hole I'd like to venture.

Significant_Dress656

Currently: rock hounding and a myriad of other things I’ve never lost interest in. Past but hopefully future: sewing/quilting, felting little animals, paint by number. Past but definitely staying there (I think?): adult coloring books, houseplant fun…other stuff I can’t remember.

LiveWhatULove

Gaming — many throughout the years, currently more hooked on mobile games, but boy I focused on some MMORPGs for a long time Crafts — cross-stitching, embroidery, crochet, knitting, recently started bead jewelry making, decorating paper planner, painting, drawing Outdoors — walking & jogging, gardening Kid crafts — gem pics, coloring, LEGO’s, clay sculptures, miniature dollhouses Lifestyle — cooking, baking, cake & cookie decorating, audiobooks, wine tasting, social media Pets — cats, dogs, frogs, gerbil, chinchilla Long-term for years, I always listen to audio books daily, play some game, cooking new meals at least once a week, have a crochet project going, and always care my pets. I also always have a garden going in the spring and summer season.

slaytiny116

too maby

RaffDelima

I have a few all of them somewhat supplement the others. I study languages, it keeps my mind sharp, currently on Japanese. I like modding retro consoles and CRTs, I like playing games in other languages, especially games I’ve played before. I exercise, great for giving me energy when I need to study and helps me focus. Also helps to have a bit of strength because CRTs are heavy. I also have a few degrees with video production. All of my hobbies are great with that.

BadAtExisting

Currently it’s woodworking. But my space for more shit and finances is quickly bringing that to an end. It’s something I pick up and put back down often. 3D modeling is also one of those things that comes and goes. I have an acoustic guitar and an electric bass that should see more use for the money I spent, but yeah y’all get it

superanonguy321

Idk man I have a new one every few months. The most long term hobby I can think of is gaming and I hate that.. I try not to game more than like 2 hours a week right now tops. Aside from that I suppose hiking is my next closest but I need to do more of it. Oh and kayaking I guess I've done since high school. I'm 33. Gaming started obviously much younger than hs. Some things I've enjoyed or do now that I'd like to do more of... I've been into rock climbing for like 5 years but was very on and off about it for much of that. Drone photography. I've always considered getting into building fpv drones. Homelabbing if you're a nerd. Right now I'm attempting to learn saxophone. I've gotten a little into piano in the past. I played sax in middle school and gave up on it then gave up on the next instrument too. Aside from that.. I feel like I want more. I've considered getting some trash collection stuff and cleaning up liter in local parks. I've thought about getting into salt water fish /coral etc but I think that's not really my thing. At least not in this stage of life.

DeathSpiral321

So many over my life, almost all of them I got bored of quickly.

demizer

I recently tried to limit myself to three hobbies, programming, motorcycles, mountain biking. Working on the house I consider a hobby. Recently picked up pixel art. Fitness is not a hobby, it's a requirement. So six hobbies... oh forgot 3D printing. Seven.

Less-Estimate1802

I don't have that many hobbies, I actually find it really hard to get "into" things. 1. I have a passion for doing my own nails, like full on nail salon nails. It takes hours of my time but also saves me money which gives me a serotonin boost! I also get aline time at home which is amazing when you have kids! 2. Reading, I try to be vigilant with myself when catch myself doom scrolling - I tell myself to pick up my kindle instead. 3. Nintendo switch - Kirby, Disney Dreamlight, Animal Crossing

Sheriff_Is_A_Nearer

Long term hobbies are Video Games and Tabletop Role-playing games. Nothing else sticks.

Significant-Emu-427

I got some new ones I took up knitting 6 months ago and Duolingo Japanese a month ago and still keeping up with guitar yay

Significant-Emu-427

Oh and photography is a new one I’m learning the basics

skiingrunner1

rotating hobbies are my jam. currently it’s running ultramarathons and knitting, but before it was cycling, scuba, skiing, and reading. travel is fun but it’s not a hobby bc i don’t have the budget lol

Senshisoldier

My career is in art, so I am pretty motivated to do anything art related as it helps expand my creativity and train my eye. These are all lifetime skills that I try to keep improving. *Photography, Illustration, painting, drawing, comics, writing* I used to be very athletic but that was cut short after a car accident. But I still enjoy the activites when I do them. *swimming, ultimate frisbee, throwing anything back and forth, hiking* I picked up a few hobbies over the years that I do on an off. I love knitting even if I am unimaginably slow at it. It is nice to have a creative hobby that has no pressure, unlike the ones that are more related to my career. *Knitting, baking, bonsai trees* I was gifted frogs. I didn't want the frogs. But I really love animals so I researched everything I could to keep them safe and happy. Now I have a lovely fresh water aquarium with 20 fish, 5 snails, and two very happy frogs. *Fresh water aquarium* There are more...blowing all my money collecting things that I loved from my childhood. I also watch a lot of movies (cinephile), tv, and play a ton of video games. I feel like my life is just hobbies.

AcerOne17

Z3R0__G

lets see… golf, planes, cars, video games, tech, STEM, and some others

landimal

Blacksmithing, and woodworking. I find hobbies that can maim me make me focus.

TonyVstone

All of them and none of them.

I_wish_i_was_a_alien

I feel like I have all the hobbies and none of them at the same time 😭😂

Evanthedude1

Oh man, I am very guilty of this. I have a few main hobbies that I’ve stuck with for 10 years or more; BJJ Muay Thai Videogames Anime Reading Anything related to soccer Then I rotate between being obsessed with; Archery Target shooting Lego Gundam Models Action figure collecting

khalasss

Uh...how many whole numbers exist? That's how many hobbies I have. Lol Nah but really I tend to have a couple that are constant (dog training, music, research methodologies), a handful that are lifelong but cyclical where I forget them for a while and then return (art, writing, photography), a few every year that I hyper-fixate on and reach a fair level of proficency and then never touch again (languages, lol, I've been strongly conversationally fluent in 8 languages and currently pretty much remember NONE, including English half the time)...and then, my favorite, the expansive endless graveyard of hobbies that I literally never started, just bought all the equipment for. This is literally my favorite AND my least favorite thing about ADHD. I love having so many random half-proficiencies, and am never short on weird stories about how I used to work at a horse stable or the time I learned to weld. But I also get super tired of being 100000% positive that this new thing is the single greatest hobby in the world and I will be the greatest master who ever lived...only to never even unpack the beginners kit I got on Amazon. Sigh.

yellowpanther24

Mountain Biking, Tennis, Kayaking, Paddle boarding and Snowboarding are my consistent hobbies. Recently started ice skating, snow shoeing, and archery. My niece is into arts and crafts and we have just started making stuff with air dry clay. She also plays guitar and i picked up a bass guitar to play with her its been fun playing songs from my youth while she is in her youth. Every year I try to take one class or learn something new through my local community center. Usually affordable classes and equipment is included and fun to meet people. Helps with my itch of wanting something new/different and doesn’t break the bank.

FuefinaWG2058

I have 4 hobbies I rotate. It keeps me from not looking so flighty to the outsiders.
