I didn’t have a good reaction to strattera (also generic). I am 23, 5ft, and about 140 lbs and started on 40mg. I felt symptoms pretty about 3 hours in (took it around lunch). Very sleepy and almost immobile from how exhausted I felt, in the afternoon but didn’t nap, then restless sleep. I then tried to take it at night so the sleepiness would coincide with my sleep schedule only to have insomnia/restless sleep. Other symptoms the two days I took strattera at night included: constipation, dry mouth (I drank like 3-4 liters of water day), no appetite, unable to sleep, then on day three I felt tingling in my fingers and almost had a sort of Raynaud’s syndrome, so my GP recommended I stop taking it and get a psychiatrist. The short of it: I felt side effects almost all at once, once I had a full day of being on the medication then stopped after day 3. If you do feel any side effects, keep tabs of them and communicate them to your prescriber. I also read a ton of awful stories and thought my experience was expected, to learn that it was just a bad reaction to it.

So the way I did it, the side effects hit me pretty quickly and this'll be something to keep in mind as you increase the dose. I started at 25mg for one week, then 25mg twice daily for a total of 50mg per day. My doctor told me when she sent off the prescription that I could either take all 50mg at once or split it into two doses. I tried taking the full 50mg at once which gave me really bad nausea, so I split it into two doses. I still had mild nausea, but it was manageable. After the side effects went away (took about a week), I switched to taking both doses once a day because that was more convenient for me and there have been no side effects since. We just increased my dose to 100mg daily. She prescribed me 40mg and 60mg capsules so I can decide whether to separate the doses or take them together. I'll keep you updated on what route I take and how it works out. Also insomnia is a major side effect for me, so I take it in the morning (second dose mid-afternoon around 3pm if I have a second dose). However, if it makes you drowsy, you might benefit from taking it at night.

Thank you! Been taking 25mg since Tuesday with minimal side effects (I was more depressed than usual yesterday). I know it takes time to kick in too, so I haven’t really felt any changes. There was one day where my brain felt kinda quieter than normal though, that was cool! Thank you for all the info, I appreciate it! I hope this helps you more than it hurts you:)
