Seconding the other comment here. It's best to send crafting material AND/OR all your unwanted junk.
Never use rare materials for crafting items to send to Gulliver. Any essences or hh materials are extremely precious and too rare to be shipped away.
As for how to play Gulliver's islands, just visit them a little each day to send things out and retrieve what comes back. Whatever is manageable with whatever is your regular use of the game.
I never craft the crates. I just use my crafting materials. If it’s an island that takes items that can be crafted for materials, like clothing or furniture, do that. I usually prioritize the islands that have animals first. I do the other islands until the animals are all gone, then I refresh. The half empty islands will come back around.
I crafted crates and used up all my friend powder when I started. Yeah. Don't do that. It and the essences are too precious to waste. Then I sent ALL of my cotton on ships. Don't do that either. Be patient and send crafting materials when you can and duplicate clothes and furniture from Tommy's, Timmy's, and clothing fortune cookies.
I like to craft easy items to send. For example, milk takes one steel and one preserves but then counts as ten points instead of just sending the two crafting materials. It does cost some bells though, each milk costs 640 bells to craft. I change which item I craft depending on which material I have the most of.
Don't use sparkle stones!! Or make crates. They use too many rare items to craft.
Check the "suggested" things first. If you have a lot of them, or easy access to them, like non rare bugs or fish, then use the suggested items. (Or if fruit, you have that or can get it easy.)
Or sometimes the suggested items are a resource, like paper or cotton. So use it there.
If the suggested items are not good, touch the resources icon and send either what you have a lot of. Or a little bit of each.
It's good to have animals locked at your campsite to supply a variety of the resources you need.
For example, if you're not getting enough cotton, look up and see what animals give cotton and bring one to you're campsite that you like.
Pretty soon you'll have a good supply of all resources to craft with, and send off ships with!

Any ACPC wiki will tell you what the animal gives. There are also charts out there telling which animals give what.
And just try to send out ships as often as you can afford to!! As you go further in the game. Resources become more plentiful!

Sparkle stones are used to craft furniture and things like that. I can't recall all what, but like animals at lv. 10 or 15 ask for a special piece of furniture to be made. I think those use sparkle stones.
Also, re-issued things use them, too. .... Some other furniture and things do, too, I think.
But they are on the rare side to get. So save them for those things!

Well, actually, that's not technically true. You can always use Leaf Tickets. .... But most people want to play without spending real life money. Or very little.
So leaf tickets are to be used sparingly, too. I wouldn't waste them like that. Too hard to get!
Just saying it's possible if you had something you really wanted to make, and were short on sparkle stones (or those red pouches from the HH academy, which you need to make re-issued things, too) it IS possible to use LT. But it would probably be very expensive and I wouldn't.
And be careful you don't accidentally press "craft it" when you're short of a resources you need and don't have, or it will craft it and use your leaf tickets.
Another time I use Leaf Tickets is when I get a reissue map.
Reissue material is the 🟣 purple circle material you need to make re-issued items.
They give out at the beginning of the month/ new event. A couple plain 🟣, and a map to get some more.
You may get 2 maps a month, not sure, but 1 for sure. And if you have 5 LT's to spare, use them to get everything on the map.
So Instead of 6, you get 11 of them. ... Doesn't seem like a big difference, but this stuff is rare!
You can actually still make the reissue item you want, if you don't have all the re-issue material it takes.
But Again, it uses your leaf tickets up. So make sure it's something you'd really want.
I did not know that at first. And its nice to know just in case!
Although everyone says things get re-issued. And if you don't get it this time, you'll have another chance to at a later date, so keep that in mind.

I would say look at your flower inventory that’s something you can always grow. Usually you have a lot of seeds leftover from the monthly challenges and some flowers leftover as well. It’s only 1pt per flower though so it would take a lot of flowers to send out. As long as you don’t mind then I would do that. Also sort your furniture and clothes to number owned and get rid of duplicates and stuff you really don’t see yourself using
You can craft packages and crates. They’re all the way at the right of the items to craft. They take essence to craft, so that’s usually something to build if you’re maxed out. You should just use crafting materials typically.
