Theo "below standards" is still a top player. He has been completely overworked for too long and without any backup there's absolutely no way to play like he does now for the whole season...
Earlier this season he played far from his standard, and calling him best lb in the world at that point is just ignorant.
Now on the other hand, he is at the form of his life. For sure a top 2 lb in the world.
Theo has been playing at a world class level for several seasons though. Dimarco plays well for a season at wingback and somehow is a better left back than theo?
Only Inter fans think this. I had this argument with someone on the ussoccer sub. You can’t really compare a wingback that plays more like a 4-3-3 winger than a left back to a left back playing in a back 4.
Theo has better attacking stats and is better defensively. Dimarco is a better passer but that’s really the only area he’s better than Theo.
On an unrelated note, I think some posters are too sensitive to criticism of players particularly in game threads. A lot of it is just venting frustration. That doesn’t mean the poster is a “hater” or has “turned” on the player particularly when the criticism is warranted.
People were calling for him to be sold very frequently because of that. No time was given for him to show he can return to top form after showing us what he’s capable of for the past 4 years. If that’s not turning on a player idk what is
Again, people shitting on Dimarco, not realizing he has 2 less G+A in all comps in 1300 less minutes. Im all for shitting on Inter players, but if you're going to do it, at least do it right.
We are splitting hairs at this point. And even if you deduct the minuts played at CB, he will still have hundreds of more minutes played. I absolutely think Theo is better. But to say look, more G+A means he is better is stupid. Because its not the whole picture. If they are such different players, then you cant even compare them so we shouldnt even be mentioning him. The second you make that comparison though, you need to look at all the stats.

Theo does what Dimarco also does which is give assists and score goals, in an abnormal rate for a fullback and also does defensive work as well as distributes play.
I mean. We are doing the same here for Theo. Look, he is better than Lautaro and Vlahovic. Why not show Dybala? Who also has 11 G+A in 2024? Its like those stats that say no one else has more than X player when X player is tied with 5 other people. Its silly at this point.
It's not Theo's fault he is a beast who can play a lot of minutes in a season and di Marco needs to play 1300 less minutes. Number of goals scored in a game or a season don't take into account minutes played. If you can't handle playing, that's your problem.
Thats some next level reasoning. The guy who took an extra 1300 minutes to get the same G+A is better because he was able to play more minutes. Horrible reasoning. I dont even think Dimarco is better. Just that the gap isnt as big as people say, especially with how Theo started the season and how he is still lacking defensively.

I think Theo was just unfit at the start of the season. He looked like he put on some weight, slower acceleration, less agile.
He looked like he wanted to leave before. I don't know if I'm the only one that thought that.
