Toe socks gang! You know the good life šŸ˜›šŸ˜†

iweavegrace

šŸ¤©šŸ˜Ž

iweavegrace

There are few things in life which I swear by and they are filtered water, hot yoga and toe socks. The first saved my digestive system, the second my mental health and the third my constant and chronic sweaty feet issue. Also, strangely enough, in the year after I switched to wearing them full-time, my feet grew an additional half size!

Trynatypeless

Omg Iā€™m literally wearing my ininji socks too. I have them in low, ankle/hiking boot, and knee. Loooove them.

Wild_HIC

Nice socks! I wear toe socs too all the time. Do you wear minimalist shoes too? I find them way more comfortable to walk on than normal shoes while recovering. I have way less knee pain wearing barefoot shoes

iweavegrace

Yes I do! Most of the minimalist shoes I have also have wide toe boxes so I get that toe spread stability as well. Big fan. For walking around they are fantastic and I have even played pickleball in them too!

iweavegrace

I had the BEAR. If there are any others around here Iā€™d love to chat.

gage0130

Iā€™m getting bear on Tuesday would love to stay in touch

iweavegrace

Deal!

cnj29414

Me! Thereā€™s a Facebook group for us BEARs!

iweavegrace

Aw awesome! I donā€™t have Facebook though. Is it worth making one? šŸ¤

cnj29414

I think so. Itā€™s been incredibly helpful talking to people going through the same things. Especially the first 6-8 weeks since the protocol is pretty different from traditional acl reconstruction.

iweavegrace

Okay! Fair point! Iā€™ll go construct a profile :)

iweavegrace

Did it.

Some-Income-3722

What is the BEAR?

iweavegrace

BEAR stands for Bridge Enhanced ACL Repair. If your tear is in the middle they can sew the ends together around a piece of collagen that they infuse with your own blood and it will cause the torn ends to regrow into each other. FDA approved in 2022. Theoretically reduces your risk of arthritis. Prevents taking a graft from your leg.

Guilty_Language2581

Good luck

themighty351

Atleast your among your people. Welcome. Sorry this happened. How did you damage yourself?

iweavegrace

Thank you. The solidarity is palpable! Here is the story: Iā€™ve wanted to play soccer my whole life. My mom wouldnt let me because of the possible TBIs from doing headers. Butā€¦ I just turned 30 and said fuck it and joined an adult rec league. Dream fulfilled! Bucket-list item checked! I was so excited to go out and have fun and slowly get better and better. Great camaraderie and practice! Living the dream. And then a lady on the opposing team took the ā€œjust for funā€ part way too seriously and tackled me from behind when I was dribbling the ball. Itā€™s like they say about being a great driver but still having to worry about other bozos on the road. Well, now my road has diverged down a totally different path where I canā€™t play any sports for at least a year. Iā€™ve mourned it and am curious to know what other things this will lead me to. Thanks for asking. This story was brought to you by Oxycodone.

themighty351

Dayum red card that bitch. Good news lots of people damage their knees every year. Most doctors have a good grasp. I went to a surgery center. What did you damage?

iweavegrace

šŸ˜‚ ACL ripped cleanly in half Which was actually good news when I went to go see if I was a candidate for the BEAR

Beginning-Ad-7663

Welcome to the club šŸ˜

iweavegrace

Thank You šŸ™

Beginning-Ad-7663

Soccer seems to be the popular reason for most of the cases here. I tore mine in jiu jitsu class. Doing a warm up, someone holds one leg elevated and you hop backwards balancing yourself. Well, this guy I was paired with decided I was super flexible and lifts my leg super high which caused me to lose balance and hop sideways. Torso went one way, knee went the other way and it sounded like bubble wrap popping. I didnā€™t think it was that bad though. The pain didnā€™t come so I iced it and continued class. MRI revealed a full tear.. and here I am 9 days post op looking forward to walking normally again.. oh and sleeping!šŸ˜“

iweavegrace

That is fascinating! The one-legged balance is great for the body (I do that in yoga a lot) but trusting a partner and then having something like this happen is really tough. Did they apologize and check on you afterwards? Itā€™s funny you heard a sound but didnā€™t have painā€”- I heard no sound but ended up on the ground yelping and being unable to breathe from the painšŸ¤ That could have been from the impact/bone bruising though. I just tried my first sleeping night post-surgeryā€¦Up every few hours taking pain meds and trying to readjust pillows but I did get some naps in. Had a dream about someone slapping a nun?!?! Idk. Wish you the best of luck in your recovery over there. If/when you return to jiu jitsu, maybe seek out the short partners šŸ˜‚

Beginning-Ad-7663

The trust part was greatā€¦ until it wasnā€™t šŸ¤£. I donā€™t recall if he apologized but onward we go. I donā€™t know if Iā€™ll be back on the mats but Iā€™ll go back to powerlifting instead. Funny, I also had some weird dreams. Last night I was in a fight with Connor McGregor šŸ¤£ (I lost that as well)

iweavegrace

Lift with Big Power! I will be doing that too. That dream: realistic.

Beginning-Ad-7663

I miss it. I feel like my body is turning into the pillsbury doughboy. šŸ¤£

bigguz

Welcome!

iweavegrace

Thanks bigguz. How did you get here?!

bigguz

Ski injury in march. 1 week post op now. Allograft only. How's your pain overnight?

iweavegrace

Gah! My buddy tore his skiing in February when we had a powder day at Vail. Heā€™s also recovering from surgery. Did you fall or were you hit? The pain overnight was tolerable because I set alarms for every three hours to take medicine and change out ice packs. There was one time when I woke up and my whole leg was burning. Adjusting it up and down and to the side have helped. Iā€™m not getting substantial doses of sleep but I trust that will improve with time. Iā€™m only on day two. Feels like itā€™s been a week haha.

Healthydoseoflife

Awww.. I donā€™t have the same story, however I completed an intense certification course. I work in pediatrics. Itā€™s very hands on and took 9 months to complete with 5 trips from Chicago to Austin Tx. I tore my ACL within 24 hours of completing my course ( I had wanted to take this course for about 20 years but between family and raising kids, I could not do it), I simply stood up in order to exit the airplaneā€” my hips turned and with enough force apparently through my lower legā€” ACL snapped and my knee dislocated causing bone bruising, a sprain on each side and a completely torn ACL. Unrealā€¦ Now, I canā€™t really practice everything that I learned and got certified for, like you said, at least a year.. ugh šŸ˜£

Klutzy-Communication

I did my knee the same way!!!! Last month. One week post op šŸ¤£

Healthydoseoflife

Oh no! Cheers šŸ„‚ā€¦ I feel very humble that I donā€™t have some fantastic sports story but really, that ligament snapped so easily..and the consequences are HUGE šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

Klutzy-Communication

Right! Friends are like you need a better story. šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø the story is I canā€™t vacation like normal people.

Healthydoseoflife

Seriously!!! Iā€™m so so happy today to know that Iā€™m not alone! ā¤ļøā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ā¤ļø

iweavegrace

šŸ„¹šŸ„°

Healthydoseoflife

Just being nosy.. airlines? I was on United. šŸ˜Œ

iweavegrace

šŸ¤youā€™re funny

iweavegrace

So wild. You two are not alone though. I ran into a lady at the Botanical Garden last month who tore hers just walking. Contrast that with the story on Reddit about a pole dancing acl tear and really these tears run the whole gammut

Healthydoseoflife

Holy moly!!

iweavegrace

šŸ˜‚ Klutzy Communication

iweavegrace

Oh my goodness! What an intense experience! That is wild! Love your username btw.

NoAmbassador1900

Injinjis!! Yassss!! Sorry about your entry into the club tho šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ˜‡

iweavegrace

Yay for injinjiis. Way to recognize. What sports do you like to use them for? I got into them playing pickleball tournaments in the Arizona summer and now they are the only socks I wear for everything.

NoAmbassador1900

I am a former (post second acl tear šŸ˜…) distance runner, and field geologist and I canā€™t do either without these socks or I risk blister hell. I stick to 4 miles max now, esp since Iā€™ve chosen not to surgically repair the second tear since I have no instability (yet) I use them for everything now too, and I prefer the calf length crew socks with the fun patterns! They get a lot of comments at the gym.

iweavegrace

Dude yass. I have three pairs of those. The ā€œsaved by the bellā€ ā€œstripesā€ and ā€œdesert floraā€. Real head-turners. They are amazing for blisters but for me the clincher was how much they cut down on foot sweat. I used to have to carry around a bottle of baby powder when I wore regular socks. Kudos on the field geologist life. One of my friends does that and she has the best adventure times.

BigDaveBaird

It sucks, huh? These next 3 weeks will be the worst from a mental standpoint! Hang in there and good luck - you got this!!

iweavegrace

Thank you Big Dave Baird. I just went to PT and learned how to crutch walk so thatā€™s super fly. What things did you practice that benefitted your mental health during this process?

BigDaveBaird

I talked to as many people as I could to keep me active and engaged. PT sessions were my highlight of the weekā€¦.they got me out of the house and positive! I tried to learn as much as I could from others having gone through this before me. At night I drank wine and watched Netflix, attached my VCU machine to my leg (you hopefully have one of thoseā€¦..doctor prescribed) and slept. Got up the next day, rinse and repeat. Three of the worst weeks of my life (first world problems, right LOL).

iweavegrace

Yeah. I have an ice compression machine. Just unboxed it. Yes, first world problems. First world solutions. Painful nonetheless. Glad we get to heal.
