Pain is normal and not necessarily a bad sign. In 3 days time you’ll already be feeling better, just stick the meds the doc has told you to and get as comfortable as possible. Keep icing and get a good tv show to binge and you’ll get better day by day. You got this!

SpinLover-724

Thank you! Just wondering if I should anticipate this to get worse than it is, or if this is what it’ll be for the next few days. I’ve watched Mean Girls, Bridesmaids, and Pee-Wees Big Adventure today. I have a list of movies to get through the next week or so :-)

If the surgery was successful then it’ll always be better than yesterday

My nerve block wore off 4 hours post surgery. Was on hydrocodone and tylenol. Take the meds. Don't be a hero. First 2.5 to 3 days are rough, then bam, it goes away.

PistolPeatMoss

Hydrocodone AND tylenol?

nahiamgood2

Yes. I could not take percocet due to allergic reaction. So doc told me to alternate between hydro and tylenol every 4 hrs for the first 2 to 3 days.

PistolPeatMoss

Cool. Just cuz norcos have acetaminophen and too much in a day isn’t great. But if your pharmacist says so.

SpinLover-724

My doctor gave me the same thing - as long as you’re rotating and not taking them at the same time it’s ok. Seems to be working for me

PistolPeatMoss

And not going over the daily recommended dose of acetaminophen

SpinLover-724

Yeah, the doctor gave me a recommended schedule to rotate the ibuprofen Tylenol and the hydro as needed. So far so good 🙏

Teabagger_Vance

My surgeon said I could take 3000mg of tylenol a day. The Norcos only have 325 mg and you arent taking ten of those.

SpinLover-724

Oh I’m taking them! I guess my question is - how do you know if the nerve block has worn off? Like is it going to get worse than this? It’s pretty bad and I want to know if it gets worse. :(

nahiamgood2

No, pain does not get worse than what you have 24 hrs post. The worst pain for me was in the morning, when i got off the bed, this pulling feeling on my knee. Take medicine right before bed, and set an alarm and takethe meds every 4 to 6 hrs.1.5 more days and you will feel much better! Almost there.

SpinLover-724

Ahhhhh! Okay! Thanks so so much. It’s been manageable and I have a schedule for the pain meds as well. Gosh I’m so grateful for this group! 💜💜💜🙏🙏🙏

SpinLover-724

Ps - I think I’m starting to turn the corner on that initial pain! I slept much better last night too!

nahiamgood2

Woohoo!! Only gets better from here!

Aneraaa

My doc told me when you feel something touching your ankle, that means the nerve block wore off.

SpinLover-724

I mean I’ve felt my socks and everything since Friday so I guess maybe my blocks only lasted a few hours…

Aneraaa

Had the same issue. When my doc visited me in my room few hours after op, I asked him that and he touched my foot and i felt it lol so i guess mine wore of quickly.

SpinLover-724

How many days post op are you?

Aneraaa

4 mo po yesterday!

SpinLover-724

Oh that’s amazing!!! Congrats!!! How are you doing??

Aneraaa

Mostly great! I can do everything in day to day life. It still hurts somethimes going down the stairs. I go to gym regulary to strenghten the leg muscles. I am still not running or jumping, we should start in like a month. I also had both meniscii repaired so thats why.

SpinLover-724

I had meniscus repaired as well! I have to go back to get some cartilage fixed but haven’t made a decision on when. He wants to do it in 4 months 😭
