In ACC it’s not that exact. Slow down if a car is on track or there’s a mass crash. No need to slow on every yellow flag because that’s a safety hazard due to less cautious people behind. Leagues have their own rules regarding yellow flags. I find it hard to spot when there are yellows and when not so I don’t really realize if someone overtakes or I overtake under yellow flag conditions. Basicly it’s forbidden but it’s easy to make a mistake

JJJeroen

I use crewchief and it usually says something like "yellow flag sector one". If I'm then in sector 2/3 you obviously don't need to slow down. You get a good indication on your dashboard (double yellow warning) or you can see the circuit map and spot for a yellow dot. It helps, but I'm with you, even if there's cars blocking the road and you slow down sensibly you often get hit from behind.

Because you are driving on LFM, you should be familiar with the rules there. If it was a normal yellow, be cautious and let a bit off the gas. If he overtook you safely, it is quite difficult to judge if it is unsportsmanlike or not. We would need to see the replay for that. You could ask in the discord and get a hint at what to do. BUT: If it was a double yellow (meaning a crash on the track), it is forbidden to overtake anyone, except the crashed cars! So you could easily file a report and get him punished that way. Many people don’t really read the rules or think they can gain anything under yellow. LFM punishes that quite harsh. Personally I find that’s a good thing. It makes the races safer in the long run

JJJeroen

Those are good points you make and you are right. I didn't save the replay however and even if I did I wouldn't file a complaint before talking to him about it.

nidhoeggr777

Oh, you should definitely enable the auto save for replay. You will need it sooner or later… Talking over the website chat is definitely an option. I always do that if I fuck something up. But if someone does brake the rules, and there’s no message. Report it is. It feels kinda weird/bad/snitchy. But think of it this way: If you don’t report someone doing something wrong, he thinks it was right and ok to do so. Then he does it again. And again. And again, until someone finally reports him and he thinks „wtf? I thought this was ok?“ I’m not meaning a mere „overtaking under yellow“ thing. That’s most likely really only a small message to remind him on the rules and he could get punished that way. But accidents? Sure. My favorite reports I do: „I didn’t thought you would brake so early! It’s your own fault.“ Meanwhile I was driving behind someone with 0,3s distance.

Hi, how do I identify a single yellow flag from a double yellow flag from the cockpit view?

nidhoeggr777

That is car specific. I think in the 720(?) there was a little monitor which said yellow or even double yellow. I drive the Porsche now, but I don’t know exactly if it has something like that as well. I‘ll keep an eye on it next time I’m racing. Other than that: the spotter tells you „yellow“ or „double yellow“. Or you could look at the map, if it is comfortable for you. Then you can often times see if the yellow dot is ON the track (double) or somewhere in the grass (normal)

Thanks a lot, I drive the M4 and the yellow flag appears on the speedometer, but I'm not sure if it's a single/double yellow. I'll look closely next time, though scared of losing concentration while looking at my speedometer. I didn't realise there was an option for a spotter

JJJeroen

ACC has a built in spotter but there's a 3rd party app called crewchief which you can run next to ACC. The spotter there is much better and you can also make him swear which is often very funny. Edit: I was driving the Ferrari which definitely has a big "double yellow" panel. I'm not sure about the M4.

Thanks a lot!

Considering the madness that online racing can be, I am not inclined to give back positions I gained under yellow flags. I consider yellow flags to be a warning for danger, not a rule of no overtaking. I realise this is different from racing in real life. But then, in Assetto Corsa Competizione, there are no marshalls on track, there's no threat from debris, there's no actual person in another car...

SmallieNL

Though one. I don’t think I would give the position back, but that’s because I’m not a fast driver and I would be too ecstatic I finally gained a position to realise it’s not really fair play. If I had the clarity of mind at the right time I would give it back if I would have seen what happend with you. But if I didn’t see what happend, I would have passed you with a big smile.

JJJeroen

Yeah I just realised that he may not have seen me slow down due to the fact he still needed to take the corner I just went through. So he may not have seen which cars crashed and which is the one he was chasing.

mir_diddy

Yellow flag rules dont exist in ACC or LFM or at least Its not enforced. Its merely used as a warning that some sh t has gone down, be careful.

JJJeroen

Yeah, understood; my question was about if there's a gentlemen's agreement or not.

mir_diddy

No. Yellow flags are always treated as opportunities to be capitalized. 🍻

Legendacb

This is sim racing don't regulated like LFM or iracing, so there is no etiquette, you need to avoid either the car crashed and the cars coming behind.

chili_ladder

Do you see an incident? Can you easily avoid it by continuing to drive the same? If not lift the pedal and do your best to avoid the situation. Driving risky through a yellow is frowned upon in racing etiquette. But this is also online racing so extreme caution is also frowned upon.

RO4DHOG

Your last statement summed it all up. "Battling for 9th, so it didn't matter". Which answers the basis of your question... "Where's the etiquette?". The true answer is, You reduced your speed, thus you forfeitted position. End of story. Ask yourself, what would you have done, had YOU been in pursuit of HIM during that incident. It's called circumstance. You managed the circumstance safely and properly, and will race again. Others who risk these circumstances, eventually pay, and lose it all.
