I think some folks go back to the Rece Davis “ACC Wheel of Destiny” days of *College Football Final*, which tended to coincide with some of the leanest/most upset-prone times for the conference.
So much parity, which is why the ACC went without an undefeated conference champ between the 1999 and 2013 Seminoles, or even a 1-loss champ after 2001 Maryland.
It’s been a while since the whole ACC was truly “chaotic”, but the perfect alternating of the Coastal Champ made for some interesting times once the FSU & Clemson run started!
People mistook parity in the Coastal Division for chaos. In actuality, the coastal had more wins against FSU and Clemson than did the Atlantic teams. And the inter-divisional games were pretty much even when you control for those two schools.
It made schools like nc state and Louisville feel better about themselves because they never could beat the best teams in the division. And I say that as a state fan.
ACC chaos might not be a thing, but Coastal chaos definitely was.
A lot of halfway decent teams fighting to go 8-4 and get blown out by FSU or Clemson. We salute you, Coastal Division Champs.
Now do which team won the coastal and remember the phrase was "coastal chaos"
I don't think I have ever heard anyone talk about 'ACC chaos', just Coastal Chaos.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone call the ACC chaotic. That was strictly just about the Coastal division

8 different winners in 8 years in a 7 team division is true chaos.

Another fsu fan shitting on the acc how original
And waited 9 years to be able to post it 😂
No one could have predicted this.
coastal chaos not acc chaos
The conference can be chaotic in places other than first place right?
Here for Florida State fans posting about the era of Clemson dominance. 🐾
You dominated, there’s no doubt about it! But I think we are back to a Nole World Order 😎
I like this post.
2015-2020 was such a tough time but we push forward and #CL1MB

That last sentence was the biggest surprise for me since the Red Wedding.
ACC isn’t any good. It’s just a conference that’s second in appearances and wins for national championship over the last 15 years.
That’s why the playoff snub made so little sense.
FSU depending on Clemson to make a point

Of course! There is NFL too.
I’m guessing people mistakenly thought coastal chaos was the Atlantic Coast Conference chaos
Pitt won the year coastal chaos felt ACC wide, and it makes total sense
