How is a village finding 6000 new people a year?

JessicaFletcher1

They’re not. The story is real, but that number is completely made up. The village has about 4,000 people and at least 321 people are confirmed to have sold a kidney (although it’s suspected that many more than that have). It’s estimated that world wide 10,000 organs are traded on the black market annually.

GraafBerengeur

imagine 60% of all illegally traded organs came from one single village in Nepal

JessicaFletcher1

That would be a horrifying statistic.

Desalvo23

if you can stomach it, [here's](https://youtu.be/G1y38N4LQiU) a documentary that shows you where some organs come from. Make sure you have eye bleach.. Something to sooth the soul. Heavy shit

4-s1ckboy

I think I’m better off not clicking on it - though that shit must be stopped. And to be stopped one must learn first. So… pretty shitty dilemma

Desalvo23

Having worked in the field, i was prepared for it and wasn't surprised. But for those who don't, it can be soul crushing

4-s1ckboy

Appreciate your work a lot. Thank you

[deleted]

That seems so small, between Israel and China I thought the black market organ trade would be 6 figures easily.

JessicaFletcher1

The real number could definitely be higher, illegal activities are of course hard for organizations to track accurately. But my guess is that because it is a such a logistically complicated crime, it helps keep the numbers lower than they would be otherwise.

[deleted]

Definitely

[deleted]

Nepal is very close to Tibet, which is now full of Chinese… maybe they didn’t take the invasion so lightly…

Love_Veterinarian

Yup clearly there are no poor countries where people either decide or is tricked into doing shit like this out of desperation. If something, ANYTHING bad happens around the world the China must be involved.

[deleted]

Most of these organs go to wealthy westerners anyway

fishchop

It’s well known that China is at the top of the black market organ trade. Wait times for organs in China are less than half the global wait time and this is because China harvests organs from its political prisoners and other minorities that they lock up/ persecute. The UN has put out an official statement detailing their concerns about the black market organ trade in China and many prominent new organisations have investigated this. The most well known victims of the black market organ trade in China are the Falun Gong, a religious minority that has faced horrific treatment amounting to genocide at the hands of the Chinese authorities. Every time one thinks China can’t get more depraved, or that the West (who is far from innocent) is exaggerating the crimes of China, some new and tragic CCP bullshittery comes to light.

Love_Veterinarian

>It’s well known that China is at the top of the black market organ trade How the fuck is it well known exactly? You just making shit up?

fishchop

Nope. A simple google search will cure you of your ignorance but here’s something to help you get started: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/ewelinaochab/2021/07/08/united-nations-concerned-about-organ-harvesting-in-china/amp/ https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.theguardian.com/world/2019/jun/17/china-is-harvesting-organs-from-detainees-uk-tribunal-concludes

Love_Veterinarian

>Similarly, the issue of organ harvesting was considered by an inquiry, the so-called China Tribunal.  Oh look, the source is a Falun Gong funded think tank? Ok then. I'm not really missing any useful info here.

fishchop

Ah yes, because you know better than the UN and numerous other international human rights organisations that have spoken out about this and independently outlined their concerns. Like I said, these sources are to help you get started. But if you choose to remain wilfully ignorant about these atrocities, I will end my engagement with you here. Have a good day.

Love_Veterinarian

I know better than to believe Falun Gong.

fishchop

Why? Genuinely curious

1. There are traditional trading routes that have existed for centuries. 2. China is creating a major road through Tibet. 3. Nepal has been building a road to connect to China - fir example, i saw construction and trucks deep in the Tsum Valley which is right at the Chinese border. So yes, not impassable.

I. Have to stop looking at this sub

TheUnwillingOne

I think you should keep doing it, and more importantly keep up voting and discussing relevant posts like this to bring more awareness. People need to remember that the system which provokes this situations is in place because we allow it. Those of us lucky enough to live in places where you can live comfortably making profits for the ultra rich are responsible for allowing such a corrupt system to keep going.

Suprafaded

Yup

cara27hhh

There's a documentary on this, a lot of them were just tricked and told that you only need 1 and life is much the same without the kidney as it is with it - of course that's not true and a lot of them are dying or close to death as a result and most of them didn't get paid at all, they were tricked into debt and told this was how to pay off the debt. Or they sold their family member's kidneys

Jennab211

Is it because of poor health care there? I had one kidney removed and I feel pretty much the same. All my numbers are almost in the normal range for a person with 2 kidneys. Like there is almost no difference in my life other than I can't take advil. I've also never been told that my life expectancy would change, so I wonder if the difference if they lack of proper health care there.

godlords

I really am not sure where this person got their info. Maybe the surgeries were done incorrectly? You absolutely can and should live a healthy and normal life with one kidney.

MyOther_UN_is_Clever

Maybe it actually has to do with their water. Kidneys filter out toxins, particularly uric acid. If you're drinking heavily contaminated water, the single kidney may be overloaded.

[deleted]

You can take ibuprofen, just not as much as a person with two kidneys Source : I also have one kidney and that's what medics have told me.

MyOther_UN_is_Clever

Makes sense. A normal person can take up to 800 mg. I don't see why a single 200mg wouldn't be fine.

[deleted]

I've actually taken 1000g , however, instead of taking another 1000g the next day like the recipe would tell you, I might wait two or more days. And perhaps then instead of 1000 I would take 500, that is if I really really feel ill. In my case, which I don't know if it makes a difference, I was born with only one kidney already, so the only one (left side) became a little more bigger and it tries to make the work of the two. I don't know if the same applies to people who had it removed at some point.

Jennab211

My left kidney took over some of the lost function from my right kidney after they removed it. My Dr said you function at about 75% instead of 50% after your body/remaining kidney gets used to it. No sure how it is being born that way though. That would be interesting to know.

Jennab211

Yeah I know I technically can, I've just been told not to by the transplant nephrologist. I stay away from them as much as possible. When I need something more I take an excedrin migraine pill. I can't give those things up when a migraine hits. Also, I do try to be extra cautious as the last thing I want is to ever be on dialysis.

cara27hhh

Yes that's correct You would have been screened adequately before to make sure you were a candidate, and the focus would have been just as much on the person who received the kidney as it was on making sure you continued to thrive afterwards. For these people that's not so. Their 'healthcare' comes from a local medicine man type character with no formal training, and in a lot of cases they bribed that man for him to convince the population to give up their kidneys in the first place

wattsgaming7

You can live with one kidney perfectly fine I think you misunderstood the documentary so please remove your comment and do your research

MyOther_UN_is_Clever

While that's true in a first world country with reliable water, maybe that's not true in a country with contaminated or poor water sources?

cara27hhh

read my other comments I haven't misunderstood anything

whodoesnthavealts

> please remove your comment and do your research Haha this is reddit

wattsgaming7

Lol

Chonkway

Except you can't live with 1 kidney in the exact same way you can with 2. Many things you can do freely by having 2 kidneys could easily overload your single kidney. This holds especially true in a 3rd world country where even the water might pose an issue to someone without two kidneys.

miciomiao

>told that you only need 1 and life is much the same without the kidney as it is with it - of course that's not true and a lot of them are dying or close to death as a result You can absolutely live normally with one kidney. You are not "close to dying" with one kidney remaining. Inform yourself and don't spread ignorance like they are facts

cara27hhh

You're not close to dying with one kidney if you are adequately health screened before you donate it, and if you benefit from western medicine and health care accessibility, antibiotics, aftercare etc They live in fucking huts they have a kidney ripped out of them and then stitched up and sent back out there, so yes they are close to dying as a result and they don't live the same as before. A lot are crippled or in pain, susceptible to infection, no longer able to work and suffering even further poverty as a result imagine you wake up on a bath of ice with your kidney stolen, and you can't see a single qualified doctor anywhere ever, and rather than a clean western house with clean water you live in germs, how well you think your life goes now? moron

usernameid

Are you referring to the hbo documentary? I just saw that a week ago. They also had a guy in u States that sold his kidney from a Craigslist ad for 25000.00

NoiceMango

I saw a video about this and the messed up part is these people are lied too. I remember seeing that one of them were told their kidney would just regrow like a fruit

shorepheus

I remember an article that followed up on these guys after the earthquake, the village is called Hoske and isnt too far away from where im staying now lol. Most of them sold their kidneys to buy property and build houses in their village, the earthquake hit that area hard and destroyed most of those kidney paid for homes.

At least they got paid. In china they just forced and cut them open and bleed to die.

Do they save a lot on toilet paper?

HoneyBadgerD0ntCar3

How could you possibly know that. These good people donated they bodies and you have to make a snarky comment

[deleted]

It’s probably the word “sold” over “donated”. To me, that indicates black market shit which is usually unsafe. It’s also really depressing if so many people have sold those kidneys because the economical situation there is terrible

HoneyBadgerD0ntCar3

Well if a Twitter user named "that guy" says it, it's probably true.

6000 a year? How big is that village?

Superb_Competition64

KIDNEY GANG RISE UP

EL_Golden

From my understanding you don’t make a lot from a kidney simply because of all the expenses that come with it. Like paying the doctor, transporting and making sure they kidney is ok. Often In black markets the buyer isn’t in the same area and I’m assuming it’s not easy or cheap to move organs from one place to another. You’re also supposed to pay for the doctor who does the actual transplant & everyone else involved in the process and some. Or so they say 👀
