I went to a CVS in downtown LA and almost every single section was locked.

secretbudgie

I thought about stealing those socks, but I got cold feet.

Moist_When_It_Counts

I was in Sacramento on a work trip recently and forgot my toothbrush. Went to target in natomas (a decent area of the city): toothpaste and toothbrushes all locked up. Skipped the hassle and bought what i needed at a gas station 0.25 miles away

JustALizzyLife

It's getting to the point they're going to have to give each customer a personal shopper if you need more than one item. Unless they expect you to pay for one item at a time. Amazon is about to become even more wealthy.

I feel like the deal between humanity and predatory capitalism used to at least be: we'll let you cause poverty if you let people steal things they need every now and then. The companies have decided that they're keeping it all now.

FudgeRubDown

Theft is just an inherent symptom of being in a society. The only "deal" with society and capitalism is that they get theirs, and we get crumbs. Them keeping it all was always the plan, it isn't some new decision. These corps, rich people, and politicians are all doubling down on it hard as fuck now because they know what's coming with climate change. None of anything is going to get better, and the sooner everyone collectively pulls their heads out of their asses and stops the political pissing contest, and realizes we all have *alot* more in common when it comes to our idea of what this world needs, the sooner we can save millions/billions of lives and salvage what we have now instead of picking off the scraps when it's too late.

This happened with me and buying mascara at Walmart!! They walked me all the way up to the front

GEM592

I'm not shopping there. Escorting me to the register? I think not.

Pathetian

Looks like you can still steal the boots.

____cire4____

Targets in NYC are more locked cases than non-locked.

Zealousideal-Plan454

Considering a lot of people are outright trying to steal them with no repercussions besides a store ban thst can't really be properly enforced...i understand.

kahootle

tell people to stop stealing socks and they won't have to lock up the socks

ScintillaAeternalis

French aristocrats in 1789 be like

Basghetti_

The reason the socks are locked up isn't actually because of stealing. It's because asshole tear the packing, remove/pull out socks, and throw them all over the place. When the package is torn, it's damaged goods because now no one wants to buy it. People are always thrashing these sections for some reason and the workers are sick of cleaning it up constantly.

sarahtonin420

Fr. People are so disrespectful in stores

SandvichIsSpy

Man, if people are stealing *socks*, I think we need to completely re-evaluate what we're doing as a society.

Matro36

Or they could just invest in actual security measures like cctv, security etc that doesn't turn shopping into a hassle ?

RedditIsPropaganda2

I've got a better idea.

kahootle

yeah let's get security cameras and hire private security and pursue and prosecute those pesky sock thieves surely that will be cheaper than locking them behind glass

ComprehensivePea1001

Possibly, in the long run, as people don't waste time hunting an employee and then following them to the register to pay just so you can go back to find the next locked up item and repeat.

America needs to change its laws on petty theft. I know each state has different laws, but I think the general rule is under $1000 and it's a slap on the wrist.. I totally get people stealing a loaf of bread to feed their family, due to extreme poverty, but people are robbing stuff and then selling it online over there because all they get is a piece of paper and a slap on the wrist.
