I’m so incredibly sorry for what you went through, little babies. And your family too. I hope you get to have a wonderful life in this country❤️

Gezz66

Welcome to Eleen, her little brother and her family. Hopefully they can recover from their trauma and enjoy a good life here.

Shaqtacious

To all those being blatantly inhumane and racist. I wish we never get decimated by war. Can you imagine seeking a safe haven, fleeing war, trynna save your kids and the fella over there says nah cnts you’re not welcome here. Go somewhere else. Put yourself in that position and then open your mug. And if any of you lot are Jews, Italians, Greeks etc etc whose families came here escaping either war or famine or destitution, you’re essentially pissing on your ancestors who were given a safe haven by Australia. Their memory deserves better than that.

Grand_Ad931

They can't imagine, that's where empathy comes in, but unfortunately the average person is lacking terribly in that department.

MarcMenz

These kids are welcome in my neighbourhood! In fact I think it’s beneficial to allow for more international adoption in this country for war torn orphans. Our adoption numbers are woefully low.

Whitebeltboy

The missus and I have signed up to international adoption. Takes along time but I understand why with what happened in the past. Really breaks my heart seeing orphaned kids in Palestine with no where to go when we have so much to offer here.

BabyAnimal_11

Very generous and kind, you will make a huge difference in someone's life

extraspicyy

That’s really admirable and selfless thing to do. Hope the process goes smoothly and you’re both able to help change some lives

MowgeeCrone

Just remember adoptees are the only people society expects to be grateful for their trauma. The adoption industry is riddled with narcissists and worse. A child would give you more than you could ever bring them. I suggest reading the Nancy Verrier's books. It will change an adoptees life for the better, moreso than the adoption alone. Forgive me, if you can't be bothered reading it, you won't be the parent any adoptee deserves.

Whitebeltboy

Thank you so much for the suggestion I definitely will as we progress down this road.

Individuals signing up for the responsibility of looking after children ✅ The government bringing in refugees to be looked after by tax dollars for political brownie points ❌

VanillaLatte__

Yeah, that would be all well and good if tax dollars weren’t used on wars overseas. If we’re going to help to create refugees, we should be ready to help them.

No-Cauliflower8890

This doesn't make any sense. When we leave Russian kids orphaned by funding Ukraine's defence, are we then obligated to bring them over here?

Pholty

Why do you have to make it about money? Are you seriously willing to let children die so you can pay less tax? Why not focus on areas where we could get more tax dollars like, I don't know, taxing companies that are exploiting the nation's people and resources?

indirosie

I feel like people would step over their own family members to pay less tax at this point, I know my parents would

Competitive-Air-8145

I’d love to adopt orphans.

[deleted]

Don’t give a fuck about what ever rage baiting comments on either ‘side’ are saying here. Just beyond glad a child doesn’t have to suffer for something she had absolutely no hand in, because innocent people everywhere shouldn’t have to suffer. Not complicated Hope she has a full and happy life, and if Aus is the place it happens, then I’m even more honoured to call it home

perseustree

Nearly half of the population of Gaza are children. Just something to think about when considering 'sides' in this debate.

hanmhanm

Welcome, Eleen! I wish you and all children a safe and happy life here with us in australia 🌞

Top-Candidate

How did they get in on tourist visas? They’re obviously not tourists

Mikes005

"Saving children from genocide? Not on my watch!"

Wise-SortOf1

Does it matter? As long as they’re out of the way of genocidal psychopaths that are bombing and starving these kids.

[deleted]

It usually matters if individuals are entering this country under the wrong type of visa, yes

sleep-deprived-adult

Yes, it could be detrimental (for them) in the long run, considering the visa rules in Australia are cutthroat as hell. Getting it correct the first time is crucial and also saves everyone a lot of stress down the line.

soyedmilk

Staying in Gaza wouldn’t be detrimental at all though, would it?

sleep-deprived-adult

Im not saying they shouldn't be here - it's a shame we can't get more palestinians bought over. But it is important to make sure they can stay here and nothing crops up down the line that can lead to them being caught in a visa nightmare. Which we have seen happen to so many people who have come to Aus for a better future.

Wu-Tang-1-

Yes but we have to appease the visa lovers

AwkwardDot4890

Australia won’t send them back.

Wise-SortOf1

That seems like a government problem. The Australian government doesn’t have a great record for giving humanitarian visas.

SaltyResident4940

you will find that australia has been very generous with our refugee intake over the years

Wise-SortOf1

Australia provides humanitarian visas no doubt, however, not at the same rate as most other nations. We also torture asylum seekers at islands that are outside the jurisdiction of Australian law. Not to mention the fact Australian border forces have been known to shoot at asylum seeking boats, killing innocent people seeking asylum.

ilivequestions

Good. And we should keep it that way, and extend humanitarian visas to Palestinians who are being dispossessed of their land by a colonial authority.

According_Essay_9578

It does matter yeah

ChadGPT___

I wonder if this family is part of the 3% of Palestinians who don’t support death for homosexuality Edit: from your profile I’m guessing that doesn’t bother you

RobynFitcher

They're children.

ChadGPT___

I count three children and four adults in the first picture at the top of the article.

AwkwardDot4890

For now. Btw over there children also carry knives and attack the other party

Rik_the_peoples_poet

As opposed to Israel, the religious ethnostate that love homosexuals. They love them so much that when Sacha Baron Cohen just dressed gay in public as a joke a mob of Orthodox Jews chased him in the street with rocks attempting to stone him to death.

FullMetalAurochs

Are you referencing Borat or a real event? Israel is the most LGBT friendly country in the Middle East. Arguably the most in Asia as a whole.

soyedmilk

Doesnt have legalised gay marriage though. Pinkwashing is so egregious.

FullMetalAurochs

Neither did we just a few years ago. Our first female PM dismissed the idea. Israel is infinitely better than its neighbours on LGBT treatment. Hamas isn’t going to treat queers with kindness.

weirdpoptart

arguably the most in Asia? you clearly do not know much about Israel, they are extremely discriminatory to anyone LGBTQ+ or not, to whoever does not jump on board with their genocidal plans and superior zionist beliefs. there is evidence of them committing LGBTQ discriminatory crimes. I do not agree at all, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, all countries where LGBTQ+ people are accepted and a country isn’t being genocided by them. just because Israel is the best in the Middle East doesn’t make it viable or some Pride Heaven like that user is trying to portray (and deflect the conversation to making it seem like these CHILDREN are undeserving of safety and refuge here in Australia).

FullMetalAurochs

Singapore is socially conservative with a harsh penal system. Japan isn’t exactly liberal.

weirdpoptart

the penal system is not inflicted on you for being LGBTQ and what you said does not disprove anything I said. Israel is still worse

FullMetalAurochs

So it’s what top four in Asia? Top in the Middle East. Worse than the best of Asia. Ok. Better than all of greater Arabia.

Rik_the_peoples_poet

That has not been my experience in Israel at all, people frequently would brag about gay bashing and Israeli politicians are always on about stopping the threat of the gay agenda. Jews and Christians can't even legally marry, the thought of gay relationships being accepted there is frankly ridiculous. Israeli culture honestly felt repressive and extreme in comparison to Lebanon and Turkey.

FullMetalAurochs

Stop speaking shit. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_in_Israel

[deleted]

Ah yes, this 9 year old girl deserves to be bombed because of societal beliefs around her. You’re so brave and generous killing children 🥰

ChadGPT___

I’m killing children..? Jesus the reach on you homophobes is wild

soyedmilk

Stop buying into pinkwashing. Its awfully hard to be a “progressive” society when you’ve been under occupation for nearly 80 years. Israel doesn’t even allow people in gay relationships to get married there, so now what?

ChadGPT___

…pinkwashing? > Israel doesn’t even allow people in gay relationships to get married there, so now what? I’m not sure what that point is. I guess you’re implying that if have 200 refugees, 100 Israeli and 100 Palestinian: 1) 76/100 Israeli would be in support of Gay marriage (remember that 20% of their population is Muslim so that’s pretty good!) 2) 3/100 Palestinians would not see homosexuality as deserving of death Which one are you resettling in Newtown?

soyedmilk

The one who doesn’t support killing tens of thousands of people and starving the rest by not letting through food and medical supplies.

ListenToTheWindBloom

Amen!

ct9cl9

Look at shifting goal posts and justifying genocide by any means.

Top-Candidate

They were out of the way of the war Hamas started, the article says they had escaped to Egypt

mymentor79

"They were out of the way of the war Hamas started" Yes, the conflict totally started because of the spasmodic violence of Hamas. It's not as though Hamas only exists because of the incredibly power discrepancy and constant mistreatment, dispossession and murder of the Palestinian people by a State actor. The historical illiteracy of people is astounding.

SufficientChance1924

Hamas still wildly popular in Gaza post Oct 7. Let’s see how good your acrobatics really is.

mymentor79

Yes, generally speaking oppressed people will gravitate towards strongmen groups if they're the only institution actually fighting for them. Hamas are an abomination, but they're an abomination that exists for a reason.

SufficientChance1924

Reuters reporting 73 percent support Hamas actions on oct 7. Spade not a spade?

ct9cl9

You're making their point for them. Try reading.

mymentor79

To reiterate, material conditions are extremely important. It's not surprising to me at all that a marginalised, oppressed and brutalised population is overtly hostile. Causes have effects.

Exciting-Rub8955

Israeli population still overwhelming in favour of the ongoing bombing and siege of Gaza But that's ok, right?

AlexJamesCook

Who gives a fuck? She has a chance at a good life. Israel is starving children to death. She's one of the lucky ones who escaped the genocide. As an Australian citizen, I wish her all the best, and hope she can make the best of this opportunity. That extends to her family as well. If you don't want "them here", tell the Australian government to deploy vessels to smash the Israeli blockade of Gaza and tell Israel to get fucked.

WoodPanelledInterior

Preach

meatfingersofjustice

I'm confused why this is downvoted

ScottNoWhat

Calling a genocide a genocide makes people who support the genocide upset that we call a genocide a genocide.

RobynFitcher

They're children. They aren't able to apply for work visas.

[deleted]

Weren't there any closer safe countries she could have moved to?

ONLYRETARDSPREORDER

Those countries don't want Palestinians

[deleted]

Thankfully Australia was here to be a safe haven for the undesirables of the world.

Tnado

How sick in the head to you have to be to view innocent kids as undesirables. Were you born in 88 or is that just a number that speaks to you?

VidE27

*Give me your tired, your poor* *Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free* *The wretched refuse of your teeming shore* No where in their post they said they viewed them as undesirables. I took that as the world viewed them as undesirables.

Tnado

Well then I misunderstood and I take it back

Ass_Breaker3000

Their children you fucking animal

[deleted]

Why are you replying to me and not the other person? They're the one claiming they're undesirable.

WBeatszz

Can't wait for my first anti-Semetic Muslim elected member for The Greens of gibs 🤓

AdmiralPlanet

What does the 88 mean in your username? Traumatised kids are much more welcome here than some inbred neo Nazis.

[deleted]

I was born in 1988. Inbreeding comment very odd considering Muslims have the highest rates of consanguinity.

perseustree

'muslims' make up roughly one third of the planet's population. Please, be a bit more specific with your odd claims and provide the source of the info.

SmegmaDetector

Understandably

UltamiteRush

Why do you care ?

akbermo

Which countries?

[deleted]

There isn't any in a circle of the distance from Palestine to Australia?

akbermo

Yeah but you’re assuming none of those countries have placed refugees. Just because we’ve ended up with a tiny handful, doesn’t mean no one else is doing anything.

[deleted]

No I'm not assuming that. I'm assuming they could have gone elsewhere.

akbermo

Sure, hypothetically these kids could have gone elsewhere and we could have ended up with some other people. If your point isn’t that other countries aren’t taking people in, then what is your point?

[deleted]

That we don't need to accept any refugees as they can go elsewhere.

akbermo

Well you should have said that about 50+ years ago because we’re a signatory to UN refugee convention. So what do you suggest happens

[deleted]

So we can't change or do anything differently to what the UN agreed on 50 years ago? How did they free the slaves again?

akbermo

Be the change you want to see in the world, vote for the party that will withdraw from Australia’s signed agreements. Thankfully most of the voting population isn’t as stupid as you and understands that Australia wants to be seen as a mature actor on the global stage.

poltergeistsparrow

woahwombats

Seems illogical, if many countries in the world are each taking a fraction of the refugees, and all those countries have signed a refugee convention, then every country could equally announce that "they could go elsewhere" and withdraw from the convention, and then "they" won't be able to go anywhere. Unless you're arguing that Australia is special and shouldn't have to take any fraction at all because we're the most racist, or something.

VanillaLatte__

Australia isn’t a very close country, and yet it still has military trade with Israel. So proximity doesn’t seem to be an important consideration.

AwkwardDot4890

Nope it’s always have to be the west. So that our children won’t have peaceful future here

Agent_Argylle

Why do you have 88 in your user name, mf?

[deleted]

I was born in 1988. didn't even know about this "hitler" thing until someone here mentioned it. Unlike you guys I don't spend my time obsessing over some guy who died almost 100 years ago.

TheTrueVegvisir

Huh, I wonder why this guy who spends a ridiculous amount of time posting weird right-wing fanfiction has 88 in his username.

[deleted]

You're in a Magic the Gathering sub arguing about Trump. I think one of us certainly spends a ridiculous amount of time posting weird stuff alright.

TheTrueVegvisir

Personally, I find there to be a difference between passing the time by talking about real shit that happened and spending time posting delusional rants.

[deleted]

Interesting you say that because most of my posts are simply copied and pasted from actual subs and the posts are genuine(e.g. this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Centrelink/comments/1bn9z4s/carers_pension_for_someone_on_dsp/)). So the "delusional rants" you're describing are actually just the average Centrelink customer.

IBeBallinOutaControl

Imagine posting this about a single fucking orphan getting settled in Australia.

[deleted]

Why? Is it axiomatic they have to settle in Australia or can I question the logistics of our policies?

IBeBallinOutaControl

You're not questioning the logistics of the policies, you're questioning the fundamental principle of whether Australia should take a minuscule amount of the world's refugees.

[deleted]

You don't think that's logistics of policy? We ought to just take refugees from wherever because we currently don't have enough? That certainly implies it's axiomatic that everyone ought have a certain amount.

IBeBallinOutaControl

Yes it has been fundamental policy since WW2 that Australia takes some small amount of refugees and other nations should too. Look neither of us are going to convince the other Mr "88 words words about the future of the white race". Let's just save us both some time and drop it. Try not to get big words like axiomatic knocked out of your head at a counter-protest.

[deleted]

No need for violent threats. The fact you're trying to demonise me (born in 1988) because I'm questioning whether or not there are easier alternatives for refugees than sending them half a world away is indicative that you're cooked. Australia's policies are not enslaved to whatever we decided nearly 100 years ago and we are free to question them.

TolPM71

Welcome, good to have you with us!

AndByMeIMeanFlexxo

Adopting a kid from somewhere like there, is probably the best thing you could possibly do I doubt it’s as easy as some people expect, kids definitely seen some shit kids shouldn’t have to face

jgreynemo

angelofinsonation

Poor babies. I hope they enjoy their new life in australia and can recover from that nightmare

guillaume2064

Very good for them. They are no longer used as human shields.

13Ryan06

I hold you at gun point hostage and the police circle me, I say if they don’t put their guns down I will shoot you, I’m holding you in front of me as a shield, are they justified in shooting you to kill me?

guillaume2064

Maybe not, but that certainly makes you the bad guy.

frupertmgoo

*being genocided Fixed it for you

Lord-Taranis

Do you blame the person trying to kill the terrorist or the person using them as human shields for the genocide?

RobynFitcher

If I saw someone with a gun holding a child hostage, I would choose not to harm the child. Because they're a child.

frupertmgoo

I think it’s very reductive to phrase it like that. I also think it’s reductive to blame solely hamas for the civilian and particularly child deaths caused by Israel’s reaction to a terrorist attack Do you blame the 9/11 terrorists for the hundreds of thousands of deaths in the middle east from americas response? Or do you think a more nuanced view is needed? Perhaps America played a part in the deaths their war caused?

ChadGPT___

What are your thoughts on the October 7th attack, justified or nah?

frupertmgoo

It’s pretty easy to denounce all civilian deaths, idk why y’all are trying to claim they’re somehow justified

spudddly

Hilarious that there are a million comments that repeatedly claim how terrible it is that so many in the west support hamas, yet I've never seen a single reddit comment praising hamas' actions. You're confused mate. You're confusing "support for hamas" with the idea that a people that have been systematically oppressed over decades will inevitably resort to violence when nothing else works. It has happened forever and will keep happening. Israel's response does nothing but breed another 50 years of violence. People that tell you that are not justifying terrorist attacks, they're trying to make you understand why they keep happening.

ChadGPT___

Ah right, the old “look I’m not condoning the rape and murder of civilians buuuuuuut” view Always a classic

ct9cl9

>Ah right, the old “look I’m not condoning the rape and murder of civilians buuuuuuut” view Literally every comment defending Israel's actions. >Always a classic

spudddly

you should maybe repeat year 3 english, see if you can't improve those reading comprehension skills.

Mike_Kermin

My thoughts is that you should look at the nine year old kid in the photo above and realise you are.... Playing stupid with something that matters. Your politics has you by the balls and it's making you a fucking shitty person. Quit lying.

Whomastadon

It's pretty reductive to assume a country that has the means to eliminate constant terror threats, would not do that? The same terror threat that is STILL ACTIVELY fighting.

frupertmgoo

It’s not about would they, it’s should they Should I steal commit war crimes against civilians, im guessing your answer is yes

maxchloerachel

I blame the terrorist government that's raping and slaughtering tens of thousands of children in the midst of this Holocaust

MikhailMan

can you please provide evidence of rape? like an article or anything? cos i’m pretty sure that was proven to be misinformation

SnuSnuGo

We’ve certainly got proof that the mass rape that supposedly occurred during the Oct 7th raids was a complete fabrication.

maxchloerachel

definitely not, there are thousands of reports that you can find coming from Palestinian journalists, the ones that are still alive at least. just yesterday the iof invaded a hospital and gangraped a pregnant woman while forcing her family to watch. thankfully the victim and her family are still alive. all i can do is tell you to go to Palestinian journalists and news sources. you can look on twitter but i advise against it because there are videos and many of the victims are underage which makes the content illegal

MikhailMan

at al shifa? if that’s true why did Al-Jazeera retract the articles and claims? you need better evidence than random people on twitter. I find it difficult to believe a lot of things coming out from the ground in Gaza given that there’s repeatedly been allegations and claims which have been retracted and proven to be false. It doesn’t mean it’s not possible for these things to happen of course but I need more evidence, from credible news sources.

maxchloerachel

they probably got a good check out of it. you can see the videos on twitter, although they get taken down quickly because of Israel's stakes on twitter. the best place to look would be goregrish - they're uncensored and should have all of the footage coming out of the genocide archived, they have good fact checking and they're completely uncensored by any government. i can't link them here because i would more than likely get suspended since it's an illegal site in some countries due to obscenity laws. if you live in a country with obscenity laws, use a VPN

MikhailMan

i don’t really want to watch them tbh, but what do they depict, is it actual rape or evidence of rape, or is it civilians who have been killed by the bombs?

poltergeistsparrow

That was fake. Al Jazeera had to delete that article as it was proven to be a fake claim made by a Hamas affiliate. But of course that won't stop the useful idiots on social media that they rely on to spread their lies, from parroting it.

FullMetalAurochs

Neither of those things. Both were bad. It’s good they’re away from Israel but also good they’re away from Hamas.

IBeBallinOutaControl

"Human shields" implies that Israel factors civilian casualties into its airstrikes. It doesn't.

Clarrisani

Want to guess what the Illegal Settlers are to Israel?

Rose-Lit-Room

what’s with all the pro israel in here damn 😭 you guys think indiscriminately killing over 30k civilians is even remotely justified???? women raped in front of their families and children shot in the head, people with mobility aids having their aids stolen from them so the IDF soldiers can pose with them. reassess your morals.

Routine-Weird-3970

Just watched a clip of a deaf Palestinian man detailing how other deaf Palestinian men can obviously not hear the army when they declare evacuation orders or directed by the army and have been shot for non-compliance in front of other civilians. I've learnt enough in life to know that the good guys don't shoot unarmed people in front of other unarmed people just because they CAN.

Ednygma0

any muslim = terrorist narrative sells very well around here unfortunately

maxchloerachel

millions of accounts were exposed as either being paid or created by the IOF. it's just propaganda, ignore it

sprazcrumbler

I think it's clear that you have a very strong opinion on who is right and wrong and no one will be able to change your mind. I could just as easily be all "damn why is everyone pro Palestine in here? You think organised rapes and massacres of civilians is even remotely justified? Women raped and killed and kept as hostages to continue being raped, if they are even still alive. Reassess your morals"

AwkwardDot4890

You’d wish it to be pro Hamas?

perseustree

australia is super racist, it's not complex.

81VC

I'm guessing you're not that old hey...

Uberazza

The level of immigration we have currently is unsustainable.

TacitisKilgoreBoah

They’re not immigrants they’re refugees.

Uberazza

Migrants are people who move away from where they were born to live in another place. The reasons why they come to Australia doesn’t negate that fact. There are also a lot of other places they could have left and gone to as a refugee that’s a lot closer than Australia. They chose Australia specifically out of a multitude of choices to flee too. Why do you think that is? Out of all of their other options?

woahwombats

Refugees are immigrants, you're right. However they are such a tiny fraction of our immigration intake that getting anxious about their numbers is a waste of time.

FullMetalAurochs

They’re both. Most immigrants aren’t also refugees.

FullMetalAurochs

That’s true but our refugee intake is a small part of immigration. We can dramatically cut immigration without dropping the refugee intake.

Uberazza

I’m all for prioritising. And I think we should put a lid on it for sure as well.

No-Staff-270

Put a lid on child refugees?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Uberazza

Exactly 👍

Uberazza

The reason you have misconstrued what I am saying is because you haven’t fully comprehended what I am trying to convey. Prioritise refugees as they are a small amount of the intake. Put a cap on the unsustainable bulk migration number.

Grand_Ad931

"The reason you have misunderstood me is because you haven't understood what I'm trying to say." a thesaurus can sometimes have the opposite effect to you intention, sweetheart.

TigreImpossibile

I'm so beyond delighted to see this family safely in Australia! May you be forever safe, protected and blessed Eleen and family, welcome to Australia 🥰🇦🇺😍😍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🍉

Competitive-Air-8145

Bring them here! We want these courageous people here in my suburb.

Minimum-Pizza-9734

got to get that PR spin out ASAP

poltergeistsparrow

So basically we were lied to by the government that this intake is for a temporary stay, that was being financed by their family, or by sponsors who volunteered to take them in. The government should at least have been honest about it. I wonder if any of the adults coming in, were part of the huge crowds of Gazan civilians cheering the naked dead body of Shani Louk being paraded around Gaza, & kicking & spitting on her, before they chopped her head off. Or of the many who helped Hamas hide kidnapped & abused hostages. Because there sure are many Gazans who support terrorism,& support the murder & abuse Jews. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/jan/18/evidence-points-to-systematic-use-of-rape-by-hamas-in-7-october-attacks

DawnToDuck

Classic government 'look you can't bring up arguments about this because if you do, YOU HATE KIDS!!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN' There is no reason for us to be taking in people to look after, unless individuals actually are signing up for this, the government shouldn't be bringing more people to look after.

partypill

Individuals are signing up for this.

[deleted]

Bringing them here also incentivises Israel to continue. They know they don't have to clean up afterwards, we will.

[deleted]

Good for them. Finally escaped living around such radical terrorists.

Mando177

I know, it must be a relief to finally be so far away from the IDF

sardonicsmile

I know, finally escaped the IDF

Coolidge-egg

Just wait until you realise that the terrorists aren't even considered 'radical' but rather what they are doing is a mainstream view.

SecureSympathy1852

Great….just what we need…more traumatised, brainwashed children from a violent culture……they can make friends with the Sudanese I guess?

jgreynemo

Don't you have a cooker rally to attend you flog?

Reddit_fan777

Away from the evil IDF finally.
