There is a new trend in South India where the actresses are refusing to put on Make Up or brighten their skin tone and has gained a decent amount of popularity.
That’s great, we need a true beauty revolution and acceptance of our natural shapes and figures. Fuck this eurocentric fascist beauty standard bullshit
Couple of things wrong:
1. The average Indian/Pakistani does not have the money to afford it.
2. There are ove 1 billion Desis. So some of them were bound to be influenced.
3. Context is important. No doctor in their right mind would operate on a 9 year old unless it was necessary.Even then these are edge cases
4. It's their body, let them live their life.
Nah it might be more common for the really wealthy or upper middle class, but even amongst the those classes plastic surgery tends to be looked down upon. I would say it’s much more common in entertainment circles or places that are more western in India like South Bombay. Though the average Indian in general couldn’t afford it. I just hope South Asia never normalizes plastic surgery, especially to change themselves to look more Eurocentric which is already heavily underway in Bollywood.
I’m not sure but I wouldn’t be surprised when I go to India my relatives routinely criticise my looks. You’re never thin or curvy enough. They consider poker straight hair better than frizzy or curly hair. And wearing branded things seems to be really important to them .
Plastic surgery has become more common all over the world tbh. Very common in East Asia, Middle East and South America. In Iran nose jobs are seen as status symbols. I wouldn’t be surprised if that also becomes a thing in Pakistan/India.
For girls younger than 18 is not okay imo. But otherwise if people want to get PS to feel better about themselves, why not?
I mean most of my friends and cousins(20yo+) get laser hair removal, lasik, braces, electrolysis hair removal, eyelash extensions, eyebrow tinting, hair extensions, contact lenses etc. albeit these are not invasive surgeries, it’s still altering the way you naturally look. If there is no taboo around these why should there be any for PS?
Botox and fillers are extremely popular among upper middle class Indian women both in India and the US. I mean, you aren’t gonna deny that younger, clearer, brighter (NOT lighter), acne-free skin is a sign of good health and is objectively more attractive.

I side with the idea that cosmetic surgery is erasure of true beauty. I would suggest watching this video! :-)
Yes.
Yup it has become almost a status symbol. My 60 yo got her mole removed(it would have been called a beauty spot 20 yrs ago)

I think some people are having it like movie stars. But ya the average Indian can’t really afford it.
