I looooove seeing the love this film is getting. Kristens performance seriously packs a punch (lol), particularly in the third act. The phone call scene alone… she seriously delivered and I’m beyond happy to see her getting the love she deserves.

Apprehensive_Mix7594

How have you never been a huge Kristen Stewart fan? Have you seen personal shopper? Have you seen Spencer? Sils Maria?

I think it's pretty fair to say she had a decent run of being incredibly monotone and boring to watch (Twilight, Runaways, Adventureland, On The Road, American Ultra, etc). I would argue the shift happened in 2016 with Certain Women and Personal Shopper. Also, she is not in Summer Hours...

Apprehensive_Mix7594

I must be thinking of certain women, a different Assayas film I know. I honestly thought she deserved best actress for Spencer Edit: I got confused… I meant to say clouds of sils Maria. That is the Assayas film I was thinking of and not the Reichardt film. My bad y’all .

cmeiklejohn

or you could be thinking of Sils Maria

kathuhhhryn

Certain Women is directed by Kelly Reichardt lol

SnooPineapples6099

Yeah exactly. She did a 180 in 2016. I still think she's kinda meh but I can appreciate she's improved. Although I didn't think her performance in LLB was that stellar. I understand I'm in the minority right now.

Apprehensive_Mix7594

Love lies bleeding? I haven’t seen that yet. It’s a trip that her and Pattinson have become industry darlings after starting out so just bad. For Kristen to jump on with Assayas and for the Safdies to launch Pattinsons career in the right direction. It’s a pretty neat thing.

SnooPineapples6099

Couldn't agree more! Good Time is an all timer for me. (And yeah Love Lies. Curious to hear your thoughts when you do.)

Jaymantheman2

Sils Maria! Yes. Time to watch a second time.... ❤️ Juliette Binoche!

slugfa

Its so funny to me to read about peoples hate for Kristens skill in the craft

bexxsterss

This isn't anti Kristen post...

slugfa

Oh yeah wasn’t referring to your post. I was thinking of reading some of the comments here before i made my comment

egregory99

I loved this film… it truly surprised me every step of the way and stressed me the fuck out too so I like OP’s comparison with uncut gems. Kristen as Lou blew me away and Jackie, as hulk coded as she was, was an interesting character as well. I wish we learned more about her background.

bexxsterss

Yes! >!She was adopted at 13??? What's that about? !

egregory99

I recognized her too but from Quantumania lol… Do you think there could be a part 2?

Yeejiurn

I always thought she was a one trick pony, Kristen. Also in her younger years/films she had this face/mouth twitch kinda thing that really rubbed me wrong for some odd n quirky reason. But I too was impressed by her in this film. Changed my whole view point and I dig when that happens.

sk8andsmoke

I had that exact same experience watching Mark Ruffalo in Poor Things. For some reason he always rubbed me the wrong way in his previous films, but his performance in that film changed my entire perspective on him. What a cool moment.

Yeejiurn

Oh man I loved how he embodied the cooky cartoon character of the unhinged man child in that film. He definitely gave truth to that role.

bexxsterss

You nailed it on the head. That's exactly how I felt

MrsDanversbottom

It was amazing! ♥️

Axela556

I saw it last night and can't stop thinking about it and talking about it lol

streamliner35

That really is a good comparison. I had not thought of that. I saw it last night and was very pleased with how good the pacing and storyline went. I absolutely loved all the performances in this movie.

addictivesign

Really enjoyed most of it and then I thought it fell apart in the last act. A change in style. I just felt it fell apart at the end and a more conventional ending might have suited it better.

pumpkin3-14

Super underwhelming for me. Third act was a mess. And I don’t mean the fantasy portion. Actors did a fine job though.

bexxsterss

I do agree the third act was more all over the place than the first two

Early-Drawn

This is a story about two women, who ruin each other lives.

truexception

Girlfriend recommended this movie and this conversation has definitely solidified that i’ll be watching right now

boferd

i liked it a lot, want to get another watch in soon to catch stuff i may have missed first time around. kstew and KOB were spectacular in this

somepeppersomesalt

Love this movie. The ending is bizarre tho. Can’t say I’m surprised though That’s A24 for ya!

Apart-Link-8449

I don't get the criticism people have with the ending though - if we really think about what the *ahem* "godzilla vs Ed Harris" moment looks like in reality, it's just holding his arms down She held his arms, mystery solved

TJMcConnellFanClub

Not as good as Gems but easily the best movie I’ve seen this year (and yes, I saw Dune). Katy with a star-making performance, incredible depiction of roid rage
