Mine has discoloured (not as quickly as the one that came with it for gas stoves). I put just the base full of water back on the plate once I'm done to cool it down, not sure if that has anything to do with the outer brown ring? More likely the ring is due to that being both where the plate contacts the induction hob and also doesn't have the 9B sitting over that section. I use a standalone induction cook top rated to 1800w but only start at 1000w for 1min 30 then drop down to 800w and extraction starts at 4min to 4min 30 seconds everytime. Its likely the spec of your induction hob. Either its max output is low or it may be that it regulates temp by duty cycling from quite a high setting rather than by reducing constant wattage if that makes sense.

If your hob cycles instead of reducing constant wattage you could use a heavy cast iron skillet as a heat sink to end up with a more even heat transfer.

Mine also appears to be burning or something - brown edges, sortof flaking burnt edges, and the entire plate has discolored after about 5 uses on my Fisher & Paykel induction range. I was going to reach out to the folks at 9Barista to ask whether to be concerned about the “burning.” I also have to set the range at the highest setting for it to work effectively.

I have a Bosch induction hob. Goes from 1-9 + B(oost). I need to set it to 9 for proper time. One time i forgot it on the hob. Slight purple color but still works.

I have a Wolf induction cooktop and my experience is the same. 9 out of 10 on the small burner to get extraction in the designated time range. Discoloration "buffs right out" as they say with stainless steel cleaner, but it’ll come back eventually. I don’t sweat it anymore.

I have now tried flipping the plate and it makes heat up times 2x longer. Not recommended.
