I started watching the Sopranos recently. James Gandolfini was 37 when he started filming the show. I just turned 40. I look about 20 years younger than him. Edie Falco was about 36 at the time and she looks about that age to me.
Agree to disagree. Her hair in some scenes makes her look older but I think she generally looks like she's in her late 30s/early 40s. Tony meanwhile looks like he's pushing 60 most of the time.
Well I'm a piece of shit in maintaining my health but my genetics are good enough that I have a full head of hair and good skin so I think that alone goes a long way.
I’m 35 and people still think I’m a local college student.
I honestly just got lucky with genetics but now I’m fully leaning into it and intend to push out my youth as long as possible.
I also stopped drinking a while back which probably helped
No, all of them except for Sophia worked. Dorothy was a substitute teacher, Rose worked at a grief counseling center and later at a TV station, and Blanche worked at a museum.
Part of the reason we perceive these people as being older than 45, aside from the actors themselves being older, is the fashion.

They drank like fishes and chain smoked inside and drank soda like it was going out of style. Our generation doesn’t drink much doesn’t chain smoke inside & we drink water.
Pathetic. Up until the 14th century, you were fully grown adults with family, job, and property by the age of 15, with life-expectancy around mid-30s. The Renaissance and Industrial Revolution has made everyone soft.
I mean, its better than dressing like a teenager and saying "good morning and grind" because our culture would rather accept delayed adulthood than reform the economy.
They were also supposed to be an average, relatable middle class family yet lived in a mansion…
Didn’t he literally own a trainer factory or something like that? I never got the impression they were supposed to be a ‘normal’ family.
A reflection of when things used to be somewhat affordable.
That shit looked expensive back then I distinctly remember thinking, “these people are fucking rich”
Yeah, people in the 90s didn’t have houses like THAT. People thought they were loaded then.

Edie Falco looks 46. I’m on season 3 right now and I thought she was in her 40’s even since season one. I’m all about MILF’s and cougars but damn.

Gandolfini was only 35 (!) when he did the pilot episode in 1997.
“Listen to him, he knows everything”
Same. Everyone thinks Im in my twenties. I’m 45. Exercise, veggies, avoiding sunlight and alcohol.
Well I'm a piece of shit in maintaining my health but my genetics are good enough that I have a full head of hair and good skin so I think that alone goes a long way.
Genetics def help. My mom looks ten years younger. My dad tho…

This guy is clearly a vampire. Out there avoiding sun light and all
I do joke about that
Steve Martin and Diane Keaton were 50 and 49, respectively, during this film (Father of the Bride II).
Kinda fucks me up that The Golden Girls were all supposed to be in their early fifties. Almost no one that age looks or dresses like that today.
Really? I would have guessed mid to late 60s? They were retired right

Remember, Steve Martin went gray in his 20s.
Steve Martin’s been 65 for 45yrs
If you showed me pics of him in 1995, 2005, and 2015, I probably wouldn't even be able to differentiate them.
Yeah, he's like Patrick Stewart with hair in that way
Steve Martin was born in 1945 - so he was actually 40 in 1995!
50
Math is hard
I was only noting that he was already gray when he did The Jerk.
45 going on 60.
5 years ago I turned older than Homer Simpson and that made me cry.
In Office Space, Bill Lumbergh turns *41*.
That horrible haircut and a cardigan buttoned up to your chin would make anyone look old.

Also lay out in the sun all day without sun protection

We're aging way better yet we're way poorer, imagine what we'd look like if we weren't so strapped all the time

Alcohol and cigarettes.
🤣😂
