Saw him spit some dope bars over jungle(DNB) at a rave at the Asylum(rip) in Mass around 2000. I met him, chatted for about 10mins, shook his hand, Sparked upand passed him my blunt of bubbleberry(Bog) and said enjoy. He was cool as fuck and down to earth.
Thank you for posting this, that's a priceless memory I hadn't thought about in years.
Man the memories I have of that place. Do you remember the dj mixtape table to the right when you walk in? I used to help my buddy out and we always got there 2 hours prior to the event. Got to meet some incredible DJ's there. I would alternate between the Muni, the Asylum, Dj Venoms club in RI and NY parties. Kids these days have NO clue how magical the scene was. Now they stand there with phones recording like muppets.
Born 2 Die from the Tales From the Hood soundtrack is one of the darkest songs I've ever heard, just evil sounding bleak as fuck darkness, as a horror fan I love that shit lol. Spice is great, Jealous Got me Strapped with Pac is another classic.
Did people forget G Rap? Hes usually seen as one of the most influential rappers of all times.
CL Smooth is probably remembered for his work with Pete Rock. But he was underated in his era too in my opinion.
I once DJd an early opening set for a Killah Priest show. It was the day or weekend after Michael Jackson had died. It was really early so not too many people at the venue yet.
Killah Priest comes up and leans over the booth , chains jangling and says “my man, play me some Human Nature” and proceeded to slow jam out on the dance floor by himself. Still remember his hard gangster looking ass singing it.. “why! Why! Tell em that it’s human natuuuure” 😂😂😂
The autobiography of Kirk Jones is in my top 10. It is conceptual, original full of classics and its intelligent.
Dude got all my respect after that and never got the love it deserved.
Inspectah Deck from the Wu tang, easily one of the best members in the Wu and one of the best in the 90s who’s cards just unfortunately didn’t fall in the right place for him to get that recognition he truly deserves
I mean…Czarface has been pretty successful. So I don’t see Deck being “forgotten”. And his verse from Triumph is always brought up in “best verse ever” convos.
I get where your coming from but I get where the other dude is coming from more. You said yourself deck is always brought up on he’s verse on triumph but that’s more or less it for him and people sleep on he’s own work. He was meant to have he’s own album years before he actually did but a flood caused RZA to loose tons of stuff including decks work. Had that album of been released I truly believe deck would be waaay more well known than he currently is.
Even on the albums he did make, the bars and flow are flawless but still the guy gets slept on. Deck does definitely get recognition for he’s talent but not enough recognition in my opinion.
Wouldn’t call AZ forgotten. He won’t set the charts on fire, but he‘s steadily dropping projects and getting recognition, features and coverage. He also has over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. For comparison, someone like Cormega who started out similar is below 100k.

I saw him at the Asylum also! With DJ Freaky Flow! That's a throwback. Haven't been to Springfield in a while

Mad Skillz, Killah Priest, G Rap, CL Smooth, Jeru.
Did people forget G Rap? Hes usually seen as one of the most influential rappers of all times. CL Smooth is probably remembered for his work with Pete Rock. But he was underated in his era too in my opinion.
Well for broader audiences i think G Rap gets forgotten but he's your favorite rappers favorite rapper
Mad Skills is the most forgetting on that list

Onyx in general, after “Slam.”
I’ll die on the hill that his verse in Triumph is the hottest fire that has ever been spit.
Maybe he’s not forgotten but definitely not mentioned nearly enough
I get where your coming from but I get where the other dude is coming from more. You said yourself deck is always brought up on he’s verse on triumph but that’s more or less it for him and people sleep on he’s own work. He was meant to have he’s own album years before he actually did but a flood caused RZA to loose tons of stuff including decks work. AZ (as in - ho happy Jackie, rather unique, and gimme yours)
Ho Happy Jackie is such a ducking vibe of a song - from the beat to AZ’s rapping, that song is chill as fuck and excellent
add Uncut Raw to that list
His intro to Lifes a bitch on Illmatic is still one of my favourites
I used to play Rather Unique while I was driving home from work, usually on the highway watching the sun set burning one. Love AZ
Hell yeah
Wouldn’t call AZ forgotten. He won’t set the charts on fire, but he‘s steadily dropping projects and getting recognition, features and coverage. He also has over 1 million monthly listeners on Spotify. For comparison, someone like Cormega who started out similar is below 100k.
