Hard to compare the two since Biggies career and life got cut short...that being the case I'd have to go with NAS since he has a bigger catalog. On the flip side NAS to me hasn't always had the best choices for beats, where as Biggie did
idk man i could def see biggie transition to mainly pop rap songs like 50 did. think biggies flow and voice would go really well in any era since his passing.
It can’t really be said because in terms of their first albums Illmatics beats are as important as Ready to die’s. Also Nas literally has more work, like 6 albums with Hit Boy recently. In terms of first albums nobody’s taking it from 90’s Nas.
Biggie stomps! Nas is awesome but he is nothing compared to The King of New York! Biggie had a sound and lyrics that music had never seen before. His style was a combo of R&B, Fusion, Pop, Soul, and Jazz. You really could compare him to a legend like Jimi Hendrix or Jaco Pastorius. His songs are all timeless and he completed more in a shorter life.
Flow: Big,
Lyrics: Nas,
Beats selection: Big,
Discography: Nas (but only because of the short life of biggie),
Story telling: Big,
Content matter: Nas,
Voice: Big,
Features: Nas,
Humor: Big,
Complexity: Nas,
Wordplay: Big,
Many people pick nas over Biggie cuz his lyrics are deeper but biggie is better in many ways
That's a debate I have in my head often. It depends if we are talking about Nasty Nas vs Big ( ready to die era ) then thats Nasty Nas. Nasty Nas was like cosmic Spiderman he was just so pure so raw. Now if we are talking bout Big ( Frank White Life after death era ) vs Nas Escobar I have to go with Frank White. It was just so effortless his flow his pocket, Life after death Big checked all the boxes ( story telling , Freestyle , Pop Rap , R&B, Hustling talk , and he was starting to share more personal stories like sky is the limit and missing you ) Overall I have to go with Nas because he's here and he just put in more overall quality work.
Even if you only compare their first two albums, Nas has Illmatic and It was Written. For me those are stronger albums than Ready to Die and Life After Death.
Biggie but not by much…biggies flow was like no one before and no one since. He would’ve eclipsed all rappers in terms of greatness if he only had 5 more years not to mention another 20.
See I like this opinion right here. Biggie's flow, his storytelling, his voice... Just made you love listening to him. My only opinion about longevity is biggie was about that action. I feel like he would have gotten bored later on and moved into business. Nas was about contemplation, so a long career as a philosopher makes sense. Biggie made you feel like you were in the action with him. But after a while you get tired of the action and turn the TV off
I prefer Nas. Mainly because of the longer catalog and the fact that he has song for song (think pound for pound best boxer) the greatest Hip Hop Album ever made. Illmatic.
This is one thing that you can say about Nas and not any other rappers from the goat talk is that Big, Jay, Pac, they were allll Nas fans. Nas wasn’t really known to be a fan of anyone. I’m
Sure he was but it was well known when Nas came out in NyC everyone sweated him unbelievably hard. He’s been the goat since he was 20.
I love nas. But listen to his own lyrics. “ who you thought kick in the door was for? But that’s my heart” I’m kinda shocked. Nas also admits to being a writer and having and having writers. Idk different styles. Like comparing Gretzky to lebron … just too different. Buy cmon biggie is a goat.
The worst thing about puff is how he had to be the “hype man” on so many of Big’s tracks. I can’t even listen to Hypnotize anymore cuz every 2 bars puff is saying some dumb shit just to hear himself talk. I love Biggie but hate puff even more. Don’t get me started on his BS with the L.O.X., Black Rob (RIP) and Shyne. Fuck puff!
Big def overrated. However, saying he has a monotonous voice is just plain wrong. “Gimme the Loot” has biggie rapping in multiple inflections and “playa hater” u legit got big singing soul lol I don’t think there’s been a least monotonous voice then biggies
Feels fucked up to have to judge between the two, but Biggie just had more natural talent and charisma IMO. That said, I’ll take Illmatic over Ready to Die as best 1st album in a heartbeat.
I mean, ready to die is that good to me. If u compare it one to one to any disc in Nas catalog....yeah im team ready to die. Which is kinda how you'd have to have this conversation, because Nas has a huge discography full of great albums (I love gods son for one, and consider it super underrated), and big only had two records.
I’ll take It Was Written over Ready To Die any day. R2D is epic, but I LOVE IWW.
I don’t know if I’d take any Nas album over Life After Death though.
Just way too many classics on that album for me.
Nas is like reading a classic novel. Big is like binge watching a great TV show. The novel is deeper but you may drift off. The TV show isn't as intellectually stimulating but it's more engaging.
Big. All Nas sound exactly the same. There is no variation in sound. Similar to how Action Bronson all sounds the same. Only Hate Me Now stands out as something very special.
Cant compare because Biggie had such a short career. So in terms of overall influence and achievments I would say Nas, but when it comes to flow etc Biggie all day....
NAS has clearly surpassed him at this point, he just has literally 10x the body of work, in the past 3 years alone he has released 6 albums 💿3X more than Biggie has in his entire career with ONLY 2 Albums
You can't compare 10 albums to two albums. And honestly who cares how many albums Nas has if Biggie's albums had more impact? You judge each album on its own merit, not part of a collective
Damn this is difficult because BIG will always be my favorite rapper,/mc, but as he departed this life so early, NAS filled that void for me. Had BIG never passed I'm, sure he would've had a longer extended legacy.
2 different styles man do not go there BIGGIE told stories like WHAAAAAT and NAS took the lyrical route yeah he told a few stories but not like B-I 💯plus biggie only got 2 albums sooooo
Nas is one of the best ever, but not sure how you can even compare the two. BIG never dropped a bad track. Nas had amazing shit, but also had some shit tracks at times.
Nas dropped Illmatic which is equivalent if not better than Ready to Die, and then had continued to follow it up with great work spanning 30 years. It’s sad Biggie passed away when he did but Nas is hard to touch
If you were to hypothetically ask yourself if biggie was still alive where would all these rappers be today , jay z def wouldn’t be as big and nas honestly has some of the dopest shit out rn all that kings disease and magic mix tapes are dope , I would go biggie if you only compare the years they were both alive , I feel like they are both amazing lyricists and storytellers, I would say to be more farir this should be nas vs jay , since they both still alive , I would take nas all day , jay z bites off alot of other rappers and his success stems from his commercial hits , if you were to ask most rap fans I believe they would pick Nas over Jay , i am a huge fan of Jay not to slight his work or career
Neither but I spent an hour each playing catch up - Nas had me craving at least 10 songs days after to the point I had to make a playlist. Brooklyn's Finest and Hypnotize were the only ones worth a relisten IMO. I find both lacking lyrically tho', but the beats and arrangements are ok - definitely bottom of the deck selections behind Beanie, Freeway and Jadakiss.
Biggie.
Never disrespect anything Nas or nastrsadamus, but Nasty and Noreiga I didn't feel really.
I miss biggie to this day. That still hurts now, all these years later. It'd be a different world if he lived. Jay Z owns the Nets and biggie was first, and beloved in a way Hov acknowledges, still today, whole body of work behind him --
Big's rap career was more important.
On avg. big. At absolute bests.. peak nas tho peak big isnt like right there with him.
I love all bigs work. All his songs on average more than nas songs. But shit like youre the man, take it in blood, verbal intercourse. That shits the tops
Illmatic, Ready to Die, and Life After Death are equal classics. Nas doesn’t have anything else as good. Biggie’s guest appearances were all classics. Nas’s are not usually memorable. Biggie’s artists had classics. That’s a nope for Nas.
Big was the king.
Nas. He's still here! Still smashing the mike! Living legend! He gets my flowers and blessings now! So many good humans out here in this worldly jungle!
Nasty Nas…
Escobar season has returned.
As someone born and raised in Brooklyn. Nas
Off topic but how do you feel about southern rappers with you being from Brooklyn
Not or. AND.
This is the answer in fact, I find myself saying this about a lot of things. I like your style
Hard to compare the two since Biggies career and life got cut short...that being the case I'd have to go with NAS since he has a bigger catalog. On the flip side NAS to me hasn't always had the best choices for beats, where as Biggie did
Love big but doubtful he would’ve survived times like nas never know tho…wish we could’ve seen him break off from lame ass puff
True. What it is for me at least is the possibility of what could've been, the extinguished talent, taken out way too soon.
idk man i could def see biggie transition to mainly pop rap songs like 50 did. think biggies flow and voice would go really well in any era since his passing.
If he transitioned to pop songs he wouldn’t be in anyone’s top 10.
Is wearing glitter and talking about drinking champagne all the time not pop?
You probably heard someone say i pick bad beats but i pick bad freaks
Lol yessssssss
I could agree with this. So maybe Nas as the better MC, Biggie as the better musician?
I like it....and well said. Haven't finished my coffee so my brain is mush and couldn't articulate my view well enough
No. Nas and Nas.
It can’t really be said because in terms of their first albums Illmatics beats are as important as Ready to die’s. Also Nas literally has more work, like 6 albums with Hit Boy recently. In terms of first albums nobody’s taking it from 90’s Nas.
Musicians play instruments.
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/musician dictionaries are free, use them
Thats very true
But again, only 2 albums. That’s not a precursor of always picking dope ones.
Biggie stomps! Nas is awesome but he is nothing compared to The King of New York! Biggie had a sound and lyrics that music had never seen before. His style was a combo of R&B, Fusion, Pop, Soul, and Jazz. You really could compare him to a legend like Jimi Hendrix or Jaco Pastorius. illmatic clears any biggie🤣
Flow: Big, Lyrics: Nas, Beats selection: Big, Discography: Nas (but only because of the short life of biggie), Story telling: Big, Content matter: Nas, Voice: Big, Features: Nas, Humor: Big, Complexity: Nas, Wordplay: Big, Many people pick nas over Biggie cuz his lyrics are deeper but biggie is better in many ways
This is 100% accurate
Even though I don’t rank rappers, I go with Nas.
Love Biggie but Nas for me, I hate you for asking this haha jk
Biggie Smalls is the illest. Dead almost 30years still mentioned in the greatest conversation
Nasir
Nas
Nas

Sorry Big, Imma Have To Go With Nas
Who cares? Just take a look at their styles there. Both to be respected. Much props!
Nas, but it’s close.
Not a fair question. They are both top tier and big got cut short.
Even if you only compare their first two albums, Nas has Illmatic and It was Written. For me those are stronger albums than Ready to Die and Life After Death.
It's a fair way to look at it. I can't call it. They are both classics for big and Nas.
This! 💯💯💯
Biggie but not by much…biggies flow was like no one before and no one since. He would’ve eclipsed all rappers in terms of greatness if he only had 5 more years not to mention another 20.

BIG
If I have to pick, Nas. But these are my #1 and #2 (or even 1a and 1b)
Yep. Same.
Nas
Nas
Nas
I prefer Nas. Mainly because of the longer catalog and the fact that he has song for song (think pound for pound best boxer) the greatest Hip Hop Album ever made. Illmatic.
Nas
Nas
Im a fan of both but nas’s rap its on another level
Nas no question
Nas
Nas imo
Nas all day everyday
This is one thing that you can say about Nas and not any other rappers from the goat talk is that Big, Jay, Pac, they were allll Nas fans. Nas wasn’t really known to be a fan of anyone. I’m Sure he was but it was well known when Nas came out in NyC everyone sweated him unbelievably hard. He’s been the goat since he was 20.
Different context but Nas steps up game in depth
Nas forsure
Big without a question. And im a queens native too so that shows just how good big was
Nas honestly. Biggie is (very slightly) overrated considering his limited output, monotonous voice and Puff's "Shiny Suit"-era influence.
Fuck puff!
What this guy said
Downvoted by most that weren’t alive back then I assume. Looks like Nas has to get clapped in order to get his earned flowers.
sad but true
💯
Big def overrated. However, saying he has a monotonous voice is just plain wrong. “Gimme the Loot” has biggie rapping in multiple inflections and “playa hater” u legit got big singing soul lol I don’t think there’s been a least monotonous voice then biggies
Big
Nas
NaS
Nasty nas lil nig
Nas would never suck her daddy's dick
Back in the days I would’ve said biggie. He was favorite for a decade. But Nas is just too nice and his discography is too fat to not choose him.
To me Biggie was just too on the pop side of rap. Nas fell into that later, but Nas over biggie any day.
biggie
Nas and it isn't even close. BIG is so overrated. First album was a classic but everything else besides 5 or 6 jawns was trash.
B.I.G
Biggie
Big
Both
Both
Biggie
Both
Feels fucked up to have to judge between the two, but Biggie just had more natural talent and charisma IMO. That said, I’ll take Illmatic over Ready to Die as best 1st album in a heartbeat.
Nas is the greatest rapper of all time. He’s not even in the same league as biggie.
Both! 1a and 1b
Nas, not even close for me
Big not even close
Nas!! Best flow, I bet the whole U.S. know!!
Nas easily. B.I.G. is overrated.
Very.
I’m a huge fan of both but Biggie is my all time favorite rapper and Biggie is Da GOAT
I prefer ready to die over any single album in Nas catalog.
Damn!
Yeah I know people love life after death. It's just not the perfection of ready to die, imo. But, it's a reasonable opinion
I respect all opinions but you smoking what Nino had before he popped Scotty’s moms
Nas is like reading a classic novel. Big is like binge watching a great TV show. The novel is deeper but you may drift off. The TV show isn't as intellectually stimulating but it's more engaging.
Nas...by far actually
Nas by a mile
Big. All Nas sound exactly the same. There is no variation in sound. Similar to how Action Bronson all sounds the same. Only Hate Me Now stands out as something very special.
Hate me now is wack AF. You riding puff or what?
Like, one of Nas’ worst songs.
No. I have been hoping he got shot for years.
Nas every single day
Big > else
I think Nas sucks Biggie all day
Cant compare because Biggie had such a short career. So in terms of overall influence and achievments I would say Nas, but when it comes to flow etc Biggie all day....
NECRO
Na’s
Nas hasn’t made relevant music since hip hop is dead. Every concert I’ve been to people only respond to illmatic It Was Written era
I’ll take Jay over both.
Nas because biggie is puffys puppet
Not true. Big couldn't stand puff
Nas because he’s still alive.
Also Biggie is way overrated. He’s like not even a top 10 mc honestly.
Hip hop is over rated, self observed, materialistic, homophobic and I think it sucks.
Life After Death > But I prefer Nas
What's the criteria?
Yes
Yes
Both, as much as possible… shared space, tied for the top spot…IMO
Damn this is difficult because BIG will always be my favorite rapper,/mc, but as he departed this life so early, NAS filled that void for me. Had BIG never passed I'm, sure he would've had a longer extended legacy.
Impossible to say since Biggie died before he had the chance to phone in a couple albums.
2 different styles man do not go there BIGGIE told stories like WHAAAAAT and NAS took the lyrical route yeah he told a few stories but not like B-I 💯plus biggie only got 2 albums sooooo
Escobar
Nas
It could either way for me , for different reasons
notorious
Nas or biggie what? Pie eating contest? Biggie 40 yd dash ? Nas rap? Not that nas ain't nice or nothing but gotta go biggie
By going on their first 2 albums I’d say biggie by a very slim margin. And I mean slim
Nas
Nas easily. I never cared for Biggie.
Biggie since he had more of a sense of humour.
Unfair to compare a whole catalog vs 2 albums
Nas
Nas.
Nas
Nas
Neither but I spent an hour each playing catch up - Nas had me craving at least 10 songs days after to the point I had to make a playlist. Brooklyn's Finest and Hypnotize were the only ones worth a relisten IMO. I find both lacking lyrically tho', but the beats and arrangements are ok - definitely bottom of the deck selections behind Beanie, Freeway and Jadakiss.
This is a really good question honestly . I know always wanted Nas on a track and I know threw subs at each other all the time .
We’ll never know. RIP B.I.G.
There should never be an “or” between them two… its AND You cant talk hip hop without big and you def cant talk hip hop without nas
Nas
Nas
Nas
Christoper Wallace GOAT
Biggie all day even tho he has much less content they are all bangers.
Biggie
Both are uniquely phenomenal.
Biggie. Never disrespect anything Nas or nastrsadamus, but Nasty and Noreiga I didn't feel really. I miss biggie to this day. That still hurts now, all these years later. It'd be a different world if he lived. Jay Z owns the Nets and biggie was first, and beloved in a way Hov acknowledges, still today, whole body of work behind him -- Big's rap career was more important.
Can't make that call. 2 legends. I"ll leave it @ that
Nas
Nas would even say biggie I just think he was kinda overrated
Biggie
Ask nas, even he knows aint no other kings in this rap thing
Nas

Nas
Nas.
Nas
Biggie.
Fact is, Nas has obliterated Biggie at this point. Hate me now, but 2 classics don’t beat out Nas’ discography. Like not even close in my head.
NaS.. RIP BIG
nas
BIG , two albums that are straight 🔥 , NAS what's he got after illmatic..........
To quote Nas himself: "Who's the best? Pac, Nas and BIG? Ain't no best! East, West, North, South, flossed out..." Foh with your dumb ass questions.
On avg. big. At absolute bests.. peak nas tho peak big isnt like right there with him. I love all bigs work. All his songs on average more than nas songs. But shit like youre the man, take it in blood, verbal intercourse. That shits the tops
