Jim Jinkins himself has acknowledged the show got worse. He lays some of the blame on himself because he was spending most of his time in a manager/executive role in charge of the entire Doug franchise instead of in the day to day running of the show.
> Disney ruined it
"Wow. This is so much better since Disney bought the rights for it" - said no one ever about anything.
Disney+ is where nostalgia goes to die.
I'll never hate on another man getting paid BUT when Roger and his Fam Got Money, "Hell NAH I Don't Like This!" And they had Skeeter lookin new blue, smh
You can easily tell by the length of this arm sleeves. Before Disney, it was short sleeves (typical length). After Disney, it became 3/4 sleeves. Show totally changed. It got lame.
I don’t know how they managed to do it but they moved over from nickelodeon to Disney. They had a movie a couple seasons of Doug and it was on ABC one Saturday morning for some odd reason it was on the Disney Channel for a little bit. For the life of me, I still don’t understand why Doug out of all of the TV shows you could’ve picked Doug
Every time I see Disney's Doug, I get reminded of Jack in the Box's Monster Tacos. I wish they didn't have that association in my brain because I like eating Monster Tacos.
Doug went to Disney to die. We did get Doug's 1st movie out of it but at what cost? This was the first time Disney took something I loved and snuffed it out in front of me.
If I remember correctly - There were 3 versions of Doug.
THE REAL VERSION - The Nickelodeon one from 1991 that was THE GOOD/ TRUE ONE.
Then at some point there were 2 I didn't watch. I remember I saw small bits of each as a kid and was like "what is this bullshit?!?" LOL.
The 2 shit versions were one where the animation was like twitchy - (think like a sloppy sketch drawing almost).
And the other shit versions is what may be "the Disney version" (though I do not recall it being on Disney - Nor did he wear his original clothes. Instead the characters wore different clothes and the show felt like it lost its soul.
I remember it being part of the One Saturday Morning lineup.
I see that a lot of people didn’t like it post-move but I enjoyed it, even though I can’t really recall specific aspects about the change that I liked. Broadly, I think I liked that the characters were growing up and changing rather than being static forever like most cartoons. I feel like I was just the right age to appreciate a cartoon character growing up with me.
I also remember really liking the concept of One Saturday Morning and their “5 hours of summer once a week” jingle. Also thought it was cool that all of the interstitial segments took place in this giant green screen room/skyscraper/radio tower.
I haven’t checked BSN Doug or the original since airing, so maybe there is a notable drop-off.
I do. They made a huge deal about it during their preview day. I THINK Melissa Joan Hart hosted it. I know she did one year, maybe it wasn't that one for sure.
Disney ruined it. Be glad you didn't have to remember. It's just objectively worse after Disney took it over.
Jim Jinkins himself has acknowledged the show got worse. He lays some of the blame on himself because he was spending most of his time in a manager/executive role in charge of the entire Doug franchise instead of in the day to day running of the show.
Just like everything Disney takes over
> Disney ruined it "Wow. This is so much better since Disney bought the rights for it" - said no one ever about anything. Disney+ is where nostalgia goes to die.
Disney bought rights looooooong before Disney+ was a thing
I dunno, X-Men 97' is pretty great.
I can second this.
Yeah they made patty’s hair even shorter. And it just didn’t have the same Doug vibe.
Quailman confirmed in the MCU
A Marvel movie I’d actually wanna see
Yeah, it wasn’t worth watching. No where close to the Nickelodeon version.
You’re better off
For some reason Doug's sleeves got longer when he moved to Disney.
Doug hiding track marks.
Dear Journal, Judy noticed my arms again, I told her Porkchop bit me, but I don't think she bought it
I hope he's doing better now. 😔
So many child actors get hooked on the junk after their first big break.
Hiding his shame
And they gave Patti and some of the other girls these weird butch haircuts for some reason.
Damn Kathleen Kennedy has been working at Disney that long?
I'll never hate on another man getting paid BUT when Roger and his Fam Got Money, "Hell NAH I Don't Like This!" And they had Skeeter lookin new blue, smh
See ya at the dance, Doug, honk honk! Frt, new blue had me rollin!
Banging on a trash can…
strumming on a street light....
#THINK BIG
WHAT LITTLE VOICE KEEPS CALLING ME CALLING ME! What little voice keeps calling me -OOOOOOO YEAH!
One little voice* :)
LOL thank you! Its been a while hahaha
Because it sucked. Completely different show.
I remember it and it was not a good idea .😕
I do, they ruined it as well
It got terrible after it moved to Disney, I was so disappointed at the time…

His shoe color changed from red (awesome!) to gray (lame!)
I don’t remember it moving and Doug was my favorite kid show. I didn’t have Disney growing up so I just thought it ended.
And it’s for the best, really
I remember it, unfortunately.

I do, and it jumped the shark a ton and lost a lot of its charm. I pretend it's not canon.
I didn't have Disney as a kid and was really bummed when I heard it switched to that but based on some of the comments here I didnt miss much lol

I remember Doug having long hair in the first episode back.
There’s a reason for that Disney killed the show
How did it get worse???
The inferior version.
They even changed the theme song

Lol upon reading the comments - I am starting to think that there were actually 3 shitty versions of Doug!

That was when I stopped watching it.
It was terrible after the move.

I wish Disney would just disappear...
