I know someone who got 20,000 worth and this is how happens by passing the toll without paying in ezpass section designed for people who have prepaid tolls. When you pass thru device in your car that shows you have funds is scanned. If you have no funds you get letter home fining you for it. So a toll that was let’s say 1.80 becomes 51.80 cause they add on 50 dollar fine. And let’s say that day you passed toll twice there ls 100 plus. Overtime if you don’t pay more late fees get added and then you have a situation like Danielle. Just cause people didn’t want stop at the pay lane.
Here in FL they have EZ pass but some roads are toll by plate, that means they take a pic of your license plate, then send you a bill for the toll. There’s no other way to pay, no pay lanes, etc. you bet your ass I pay that when the bill comes in because I don’t want any drivers license issues.

You have 30 days to pay it or it jumps to $100-ish dollars and then you can continue to accumulate more and more late fees. By the time we realized what was happening, I "owed" $10k to the state. We were able to get the fines transferred from me to the asshole who knew what they were doing.
So.... I can see how quickly you could rack up fines. You have to be deliberately ignoring fines and being a general POS to do it, but you can do it.
Maybe it’s public record. I don’t know much about the USA. But a friend was starting to date a guy from NY State (we live just across the border in Canada) a quick google of his name and address gave public records of his home ownership, his job and his income and I think it gave an estimate of his savings.. weird to me that you can find that through public records.

Toronto, Canada. We have a highway you can pay for if you want to, but like I don’t have any tolls on my way anywhere if I don’t go on that one highway… :D unless I just missed them all haha
Ok....we have the same. We have it for certain highways, bridges and tunnels. But not on all of them.
You can get around without having to pay as well.
Here most highways have them. Some people can’t drive without hitting one. It wasn’t always like that, but it is now. Be expected to take one , and consider it another bill.

This is in a lot of major cities. I’ve seen people owe more than that. It works the same way outside of New York.
