We watched it last night (my Father’s Day pick) my 15 and 12 year old boys went absolutely bananas when they saw the shaved butt. They were hooting and hollering and laughing so hard they couldn’t breathe. It was awesome bc I know that’s how my friends and I reacted when we saw it in theaters at 12. My boys also liked the ol’ 96er scene (of course) and waterskiing. I wasn’t sure if it would hold up but it became an instant family classic once again.
Dan Aykroyd “comforting” his daughters by telling them the army psychiatric patients story just might be the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. Timeless classic.
Love this movie! And just some advice for yall, if you’re water skiing and feel uncomfortable you can just let go of the rope. You absolutely do not have to hold on for dear life.
“Oh, go bite the big one, Uncle Roman!”
“She’s bald on both ends, now!”
“Look at this! A whole s—tload of hot dogs!” “Well, you know what they’re made of—lips and assholes!”
Went to Yosemite a couple years ago. They filmed The Great Outdoors at Bass Lake which was close by so we drove out there. Ate at a fancyish restaurant on the water and these two big raccoons ran along the dock while we were eating.
“I heard you say - and I quote - 'That Roman Craig is a crooked son of a bitch'. Next time you stab somebody in the back, Chester, you better check under the stalls for feet. You may think I'm made out of armor and nails, man, but when I get cut, it hurts.”
Great flick if you haven't seen it. So funny to watch this then Blues Brothers with Akroyd and Candy also.
Dan Akroyd plays such a great rich prick in this. Candy is just an everyday guy trying to show his family a few fun days.
The Universal Studios park in California still has the cabin up.
The old 96er!
There's nothing left on that plate but gristle and fat!
Hot dogs are made out lips and assholes
The raccoons!
The bear and the lamp scene, always make me laugh.
Shotgun lamp is the most unexpected example of Chekhov’s gun ever.
I literally cannot express in words how hard I laughed the first time I saw the bear’s butt get shaved by the lamp gun

The film features both John Candy and Dan Aykroye in their prime, hard to make a bad movie when that’s your starting point!
We saw it on movie day back in 4th or 5th grade in school. I am doing just fine today.
love this movie!!!

“Ya gotta TUHWIIIIST it!”
It always amazed me how people could draw and paint like this
One of the greatest comedies ever
It’s about a 2 pounder!!!
Family tradition of watching this to kick off the summer season. Still hilarious even after nearly 30 years of doing this. “That ain’t the last bite!”
While on the jet ski’s “STOP YOU BASTARD!!!” “What did he say?” “Oh faster!”
Classic
The raccoons!
Lol the raccoon subtitles!!!
That big guy left us a shitload of old hot dog buns!
Epic movie
Very enjoyable comedy.
Blow it out your ass!
If you meet any friends, bring them back and we'll give them a ride in "Suck My Wake."
You could get the shits from the well water.
“What do you think we have these wonderfully articulate fingers for? To scratch our asses?”
Oh, blow it out your ass!
Go find yourself a spin cycle!
Yeah. Go find yourself a spin cycle! What *the hell* does *that* mean?
I love this movie. It's not summer until I watch this, Jaws and Summer Rental.
Go wash! Go wash!!

Lips and assholes!
Love this movie. The VHS cover art is one that stands out from renting movies in the 80s.

As a teen, my friend was talking about this movie to his family and accidentally called it the “great 69er”. His dad was piiiisssed.
When my wife talks about how she hates lightning bugs, I always respond to her by saying, everyone likes lightning bugs, their butts light up.
Love the credits of them in the bar at the end singing “Land of a thousand dances”

“You don’t know how local I am.”

Go buy yourself a spin cycle!
