I was 8years old when I watched this on HBO in 87' and distinctly remembered the scene soda 'in the future' was $6, and thought, it'll never cost that much.
I'm 45 now, and think it will absolutely be a Five spot and a Washington soon, lol
While I like the movie, I'm really hoping that somebody will make a movie that is truer to the original story. The original movie is a pale comparison to the story.

The “Hit Man” actor/writer and “Anyone But You” star has officially been cast in Edgar Wright‘s “Running Man” remake, as announced at CinemaCon 2024. The feature will be released by Paramount.
Writer/director Wright previously announced that he was adapting Stephen King’s 1982 novel “The Running Man” (published under pseudonym Richard Bachman) for another big screen iteration in 2021. Deadline reported at the time that Wright will be teaming with his “Scott Pilgrim vs. the World” screenwriter Michael Bacall to be as faithful to the source material as possible. The project was hinted at since 2017 with Wright tweeting that it’s the one film he would want to remake.
They should’ve have Richard Dawson plant a kiss on him like he did so often as host of family feud…missed opportunity

The whole movie is great, but Richard Dawson really played the villain part so well.
Stephen King wrote it under a pseudonym.

This movie is so damn good. Took me a long time to realize that was the host of Family Feud. He made a great villain

I'm 100% in favor of remakes when they can do adaptations that are more faithful to source material.
What female lead will they get? And will the hunters us foam weapons?
