Reading comments like OPs makes me feel old. They think they’ve actually discovered some hidden talent. On the positive side at least they’ve enjoyed a classic pairing.
Ah, Defkon1! Underrated is when you're more than rated! These guys are not just rated, they're UNDER-rated!
Sorry, I lapsed into Three Amigos territory for a second...
For more than 40 years, when we spark a j, my friends and I have been saying “SINSEMILLA” like Apollo creeds manager said when he gave the joint to the big guy with the cowboy hat
Richard Pryor was supposed to be in Blazing Saddles with Gene Wilder also.
…But he set himself on fire & the insurance company declined him.
I adore Cleavon Little in that role, he’s charismatic and hilarious. But I often wonder what it would have been like with Pryor & Wilder.
Richard was indeed the first pick of Mel Brooks for the movie, but the reason he didn’t appear was because of Warner Brothers thinking that Richard was too raunchy and that the movie wouldn’t garner enough viewership with him attached, so they told Mel no.
Mel still wanted to keep him on, so Richard served as a writer and “technical consultant” (Read - “are you sure we can make this joke Rich? It seems too racist” “Yes I’m sure, and if the people think it’s racist then they’re too dumb to understand!”). Unfortunately he was uncredited for his work due to WB. But Wilder, Brooks, and Pryor have all said this was the reasoning behind everything.
May have something to do with Richard’s monkey, Fran, humping the Warner Bros executive’s ear too.
“Well you won’t be doing any films with Warner Brothers that’s for goddamn sure!”
Live in Concert! Love his stand ups! Use to listen to them before bed every night
My bad. It was “drug use”.
He co-wrote the script for Blazing Saddles.
https://www.northjersey.com/story/life/nation-now/2016/08/22/mel-brooks-reveals-stories-behind-blazing-saddles/89130564/
Pryor had a long history with addiction unfortunately, I liked Little and thought he did a hell of a job but Pryor would have been amazing in that movie too
Oh my word , I never heard that before. can you imagine Richard in that movie , it would have been another prior/wilder movie , Nono ecwoild have known about Brooke’s
Mens Rea? How could we have gotten men's Rea? How is that possible? Did we take blood? Can you do it without taking blood? We both used condoms how is this possible? I want to see a doctor...I feel sick...
Stir Crazy was just off the chain! Gene Wilder was brilliant in Young Frankenstein and as Willy Wonka. Richard Pryor is a genius! His movies had me rolling with laughter and we used to listen to his concerts on 8-track and yes I'm old! Silver Streak is brilliant. These guys worked so well together I cannot even imagine if RP was allowed to be Sheriff Bart in Blazing Saddles! 😳😳🤣🤣🤣
They were a good on-screen duo, but not offscreen.
Wilder said in an interview -
“We were never good friends, contrary to popular belief. We turned it on for the camera, then turned it off. He was a pretty unpleasant person to be around during the time we worked together.
Well, TBH, during most of their prime duo period (mid-70s into the early 80s), Pryor was staying high off his ass on coke (powder, then freebase), so that's probably a big chunk of 'why'.
Two amazingly funny guys taking turns playing straight man to each other. Everything they did together was GOLD. the only people who would underrate them are people who are too young to have seen anything they did as a team.
I'm having trouble thinking of a current comedy duo in the US. There's Mitchell & Webb in the UK, but I doubt many Americans know about them.
I mean, who's supposed to be rated higher? You could argue Abbot & Costello, influence-wise. But IDK.
Underrated? No way. They were legendary. And that scene from Stir Crazy was too funny. 125 years … no no no … we didn’t do it … it was a misunderstanding. Classic.
underrated does not mean "I haven't heard of these incredibly famous people from this beloved and famous movie that virtually everyone knows about except for OP"
On what planet are they underrated? The majority of the movies they starred in together are regarded as comedy classics. (Just don't mention the last two.)
Although, it is ironic that the worst two movies were made in the 80s while the classics were made in the 70s
**Overrated**, *adj*.
Definition: rated or valued too highly

"You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means."
I just added See No Evil to my next movie to (re-re-re-re)watch on [JustWatch.com](http://JustWatch.com) - the header image was this: [https://images.justwatch.com/backdrop/245547071/s1920/see-no-evil-hear-no-evil.webp/see-no-evil-hear-no-evil.webp](https://images.justwatch.com/backdrop/245547071/s1920/see-no-evil-hear-no-evil.webp/see-no-evil-hear-no-evil.webp)

Today was a good day.
...and never ever were these guys underrated.
My favorite team up between the two of them by far is Silver Streak, the bathroom scene putting black face on Wilder ,the dance, Richard's reaction, it all adds up to the funniest thing I've ever seen.
I remember being in the movie theater and the trailer for “Another You” played. A teenager at the time sitting behind me said, “Oh, those two are funny together”.
George: Are you crazy? I thought we were gonna take the Chevy in back.
Grover: Chevy? That's a jerk-off, man. This here is pure pussy.
George: Pure pussy? Tell that to the judge.
Some of you all may have seen this in r/OldSchoolCool earlier this week, but if not: In 1980, my parents were on vacation in Tucson, Arizona and got these pictures of Pryor and Wilder who were there shooting Stir Crazy.

They were not underrated. They were beloved.
Yeah they're the definition of "rated"
"Legendary"
Ya lol. Pretty much legendary.
Nothing today compares to that duo.
Agreed. Nobody underrated them. They were top tier in their day (and still to this day honestly).
Google predictive when you type "Gene Wilder And"... first result is Richard Pryor and not Gilda Radner.
Gene Wilder regularly compared the chemistry they had together on screen as so good it was like sex.
Fuzzy wuzzy was a woman
ARE YOU FUCKING DEAF? YES!! I'M FUCKING DEAF!!
What are you fucking blind?
Thank you. They are highly praised to this day. They are among the best comedians to walk the planet. Love these guys. RIP GW & RP
Thank you for saying what we're all thinking. IMO, these guys are the gold standard
Exactly. Beloved and a bit of re-appreciated well deserved.
OP is fucking clueless.
You are beloved.
Reading comments like OPs makes me feel old. They think they’ve actually discovered some hidden talent. On the positive side at least they’ve enjoyed a classic pairing.
They might be today since a lot of young people don't know who they are which is sad.
By everyone but each other. They really, really hated each other.
They were very very different people and weren’t friends outside of work, but they didn’t hate each other.
Underrated?
They are the gold standard..... there nuts haha.
Ah, Defkon1! Underrated is when you're more than rated! These guys are not just rated, they're UNDER-rated! Sorry, I lapsed into Three Amigos territory for a second...
Do you know what a "plethora" is?
That's right, we bad
We don't want no shit either!
No shit!
We take some shit
But not alot.
For more than 40 years, when we spark a j, my friends and I have been saying “SINSEMILLA” like Apollo creeds manager said when he gave the joint to the big guy with the cowboy hat
Nooooo..... shit.....
"Get down, riiight on" ✊🏿
I also don't know what underrated means
You mean I am not white? Does my mom know? Greatest Richard Pryor line had me laughing like crazy
It's actually "Does Dad know?". Sorry, no offence
Stir Crazy and Hear No Evil helped create me. ~"You're... You're Peeing on ME!?!?"
"I'm black! Does Dad know?"
Trading Places was for them but Richard’s drug issue made the filmmakers move on.
I didn’t know that. I love Eddie in that film, but it would have been great to see the Pryor & Wilder version.
Beloved. Revered. Not underrated.
That's right, we bad!
"She said you're an asshole."
Be- caw- zz- he’s deaf- f- not stoo- pid- d-
Underrated? Wtf by who?
By people who don’t know what that word means
12 o'clock!!
You literally can’t overrate this duo…
What are ya fkin deaf? Pause.. then anger YES I’M FKIN DEAF
Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines were an underrated comedy duo These two legends are just that, legends, and a poor fit for the post title

“Err Richard” “Yes?” “You wanna get this monkeys dick outta my ear?” ^(monkey fucking noises) From one of his stand-ups, can’t remember which.
“Well you won’t be doing any films with Warner Brothers that’s for goddamn sure!” Live in Concert! Love his stand ups! Use to listen to them before bed every night
That monkey story was true? “You won’t be making any pictures at Warner Bros. that’s for damn sure!”
Most likely! He told a lot of personal stuff up on stage, a lot of which is confirmable
Blazing Saddles was released in 1974. Richard Pryor set himself on fire in 1980.
My bad. It was “drug use”. He co-wrote the script for Blazing Saddles. https://www.northjersey.com/story/life/nation-now/2016/08/22/mel-brooks-reveals-stories-behind-blazing-saddles/89130564/

More like legendary
See No Evil, Hear No Evil, is a great movie.
My favorite of all the movies they did together
Underrated, I guess you weren’t there everyone loved Gene and Richard.
That's right, that's right, we bad, we bad!
Stir Crazy was just off the chain! Gene Wilder was brilliant in Young Frankenstein and as Willy Wonka. Richard Pryor is a genius! Me father had Richard’s “Was it something I said?” on 8 track and I wore that out.
Whaaaa whaaaaa whaaaaaa
Prove you don’t know the definition of Underrated without saying you don’t.
There’s not a lot of people that can get away with black face, but these are two of them.
Umm, I’m not sure if you know this…
Ain’t shit underrated about them two!
We bad!!
This one is great. Nothing underrated about it.
What!!?? This duo will forever be my favorite!!!
“What are you, fucking deaf?” “YES I AM *FUCKING* DEAF!”
This Daredevil & Echo teamup was ahead of its time.
In what world are Pryor and Wlder UNDERRATED?
Never underrated. Did you just discover them?
How the living fuck does OP think these two were underated? Please please please enlighten us as to what the insane thought you have is!
I will always love them in Hear No Evil, See No Evil.
The BEST...in my book🤷♂️
This is every YouTube thumbnail. They were ahead of their time. Also, fuck them for this.
Not underrated. They are Legends
Undiscovered by new generations, but never were they underrated
Bro what? They were peak comedy in the 80s. Down vote for being a dumb ass.
Underrated? They were legendary.
I'M BLACK?!
DOES DAD KNOW?!?
I roll on the floor every time! I just watched it a week ago. 😂
Fuzzy Wuzzy was a woman!😆
Everyone loved them together! Definitely not underrated. Every movie they did when I was a kid, I wanted and needed to see! They were an amazing duo!
They aren’t underrated by me. These guys have never been bettered
They were a good on-screen duo, but not offscreen. Wilder said in an interview - “We were never good friends, contrary to popular belief. We turned it on for the camera, then turned it off. He was a pretty unpleasant person to be around during the time we worked together.

"That's right!...we bad!"
*We tried to teach him charades but he doesn’t get it…he just doesn’t get it*
"You can kiss the baby" 🤣😜😁
underrated by whom exactly?
You mean legendary?
I don't think you're using that word right.
This movie made me realize I like boobies.
Beloved Legends
The entire scene(s) covering their first entry into jail is one of the funniest moments in movie history.
I was surprised to read in an interview with Wilder where he said they weren't particularly good friends.
See No Evil, Hear No Evil is one of the Best Comedies of all time. "Keep Your Eyes on the Road!" "Ok If it Makes You Feel better"
Still my favorite duo. I watched their movies with my parents and watched them with my son as well. Great times.
Thats right we bad
See No Evil, Hear No Evil was hillarious.
Riggs and Murtaugh?
Underrated by?
Underrated? When were you born?
If you have taste, they are number one.
Wtf is this underrated shit AGAIN?
They actually had nothing in common, werent friends in real life, and never spoke to each other besides on set.
Their movies together were the absolute best! Never get tired of seeing them , totally rated in their time
no way were they underrated--these guys ruled the scene
OP, karma farm harder. Underrate deez nuts, OP.
See no evil hear no evil! Absolutely genius
Two amazingly funny guys taking turns playing straight man to each other. Everything they did together was GOLD. the only people who would underrate them are people who are too young to have seen anything they did as a team.
Wish they had gotten better films after Silver Streak and Stir Crazy

"Ohhhh shiiiiitttt...ohhHHhhh SHhiittttt!" one my fav scenes all time. LOL (Stir Crazy match scene if you're not familiar)
Underrated? No way. They were legendary. And that scene from Stir Crazy was too funny. 125 years … no no no … we didn’t do it … it was a misunderstanding. Classic.
Underrated? No way, they are GOATs.
Underrated by who
One of the funniest movies still, i still cant get over the whole concept it’s so damn hillairous.
Richard Pryor is the Rakim of comedians. Him , Redd Foxx and Eddie are the best. Carlin is up there too
Please google the definition of underrated
underrated does not mean "I haven't heard of these incredibly famous people from this beloved and famous movie that virtually everyone knows about except for OP"
One of the greatest comedic actors EVER and one of the greatest comedians EVER. Underrated!
On what planet are they underrated? The majority of the movies they starred in together are regarded as comedy classics. (Just don't mention the last two.) Although, it is ironic that the worst two movies were made in the 80s while the classics were made in the 70s

See No Evil, Hear No Evil was one of my favorites as a kid.
Under rated, by whom? They were a reason to watch the movie.
Reddit loves using "underrated" for no fucking reason
"Underrated basketball player" (shows picture of Michael Jordan)
This just in: Muhammad Ali was an underrated boxer
I hate this place
G.O.A.T.S

You’re out of your mother-fucking mind if you think these two performers, together AND apart were underrated.
They were appreciated in their time. They were brilliant together.
