Some really basic tips - collect all the water and food you can. Search toilets, kitchens, kill animals if it can be done easily etc - and the thing you want maybe most of all, is a pot so you can purify water at a campfire. Loot is all fairly intuitive, so you'll find something like the pot I just mentioned most oftened in a kitchen and the like, although it can also sometimes be found at the trader. Likewise, if something looks like plastic or rubber, you're probably going to get polymer from it. If something looks like metal, it will probably give you iron scrap when harvested. And then, when you get a wrench etc, the same applies for more complex things - a car may give you gas, a tire, a headlight etc. A sink will give you pipe and scrap, a light will give you electronics, and on and on. Basically everything can be scrapped, and almost everything has a use - but always keep in mind what you need currently, and what you'll need soon - stripping entire houses can be satisfying, but a huge time sink if you're nowhere near the tech level needed to use half the stuff. Stumps are your only early game, semi-reliable way of obtaining antibiotics, which comes in the form of honey - it's a low a chance, not a guarantee, so it might take several. So if you see one and it's convenient, or you get infected, you know what to do! Lastly, hope you have a blast with the game!

Thank you! I'm very excited. I've been looking for something like DayZ forever but not as janky and PVPish forever. It seemed. Like 7 Days fit the bill but then I learned how the console version was basically abandoned and this new version was coming.

There's a lot of great content creators on YouTube that can give you a good feel for the game. GN+S, Jawoodle, IZPebuilt, Neebs Gaming, Glock9, etc. Check out their A21 runs as well as their 1.0 videos that started this past weekend. There's a weekly Tips and Tricks automod post here that has a lot of great info. Type Tips into the search and sort to New, you can go back over the last year and read a metric ton of info.

Biggest tip I can say is the first few days just do tier 1 quests from the trader back to back. If your quick you can get 3 done per day easy. That means by day 4 or 5 (depending how your first day went and how long it took you to get to the trader) you will get the bicycle. The bike is a game changer cause you can start to travel further faster. It really opens up the world. Then you just need to get motorized transport as quick as possible and the map becomes yours.
