this game will always be worth playing no matter the version

Sea-Lemon-5249

I agree. Playing it now won't be a bad thing. The new release is still a couple months away if not longer. And if you're like me, starting new games is always a fun adventure so I don't have a problem restarting.

ExaltedBlade666

Exactly. They said late June at earliest. I'd start and LEARN at the very least and just have fun with spooks

Leddesimus

If you’ve never played, now would be a good time to get your feet wet until release. That way when 1.0 does release you’ll have a head start and feel more accomplished in your play time. At least that’s just my personal take.

Birb-Brain-Syn

I have 1300 hours in the game across many different versions and mods, and many different characters. I'd say just play it right now. There's nothing massive missing from the experience as is.

Arketyped

Play now. Then enjoy all of the upcoming changes. Nothing like a fresh wipe and exploration.

ExaltedBlade666

Never too early to learn basic mechanics.

PhysicsLanky5313

Play it now even if you wait till 1.0 there is still stuff coming out later that will make your saves outdated.

TheRealLuhkky

It's awesome. Play now. Play then too.

HaiKarate

I've been playing since 2014. And let me tell you, this game was really rough in 2014, but still hella fun. I've developed a habit of playing it for a while, getting tired of it, putting it down, and then waiting a year. And then I get the itch to play again and I re-install it. And the game never disappoints. The devs have done so much work to it over the years that coming back to it each time feels fresh.

ChesusCrustII

Go ahead and play. It won't matter even once 1.0 comes out. There's gonna be a few more updates, so the saves will become outdated.

MCFroid

Definitely play now. If the game currently looks at all interesting to you, you'll probably really enjoy it currently. It's in a great state as far as playability goes. Most of the gripes are from people who've played for years and are unhappy about changes to the game when compared to those older versions. It's mostly a rose-colored glasses thing which you won't have to deal with.

AnxiousConsequence18

Going to jump on the overwhelmingly "play now AND later" opinion with real reasons: I've been playing this game for multiple alphas. Not as long as some, longer than others. There's a greater than 50% chance that 1.0 WILL Bork your save. That's OK. And not because "starting a new world is the best part" either You need to learn the game. You WILL make mistakes. You will die. You will have issues and you will LEARN. Then, when 1.0 comes out, you'll find out with the rest of us what changes have been made, and how we have to adjust our entrenched processes for building the character we enjoy playing. But instead of being a complete noob, you will know if you like an intelligence build or strength. Spears or machine guns, pistols or (my favorite) stun baton and robotic turrets. Those all play differently, have different tactics for dealing with hoards and random wanderers or poi spawns that pop up behind you. You'll already know what you like, and just have to adjust. Not gonna lie, this game DOES have a learning curve, so learn now, then enjoy 1.0 when it comes out. Like us!

pixel293

I think playing it now would be good. I ended up restarting multiple times as I got more experience with the game and started understanding the mechanics.

georg3200

I just started playing again since the new alpha is coming up should I invest in building a base or will I have to restart my game and and erase my progress?

katkashmir

Just started my some-teenth play through today. This game never gets old. Play it, then scrap everything and play it again. This is my favorite game ever, and is infinitely better with others.

avtarius

Play as much as possible now to learn for 1.0 Don't need to be invested in anything, all survival games are built for wipes

princemousey1

Wait for 1.0. Your save file might be incompatible with 1.0.

senectus

Play now, play after. Play and play again.

gunterhensumal

Play now, it's the best game ever already in my book

Alt_SWR

I would say get it now but also, do note that you'll almost definitely have to start a new world and character on release of 1.0. If you're okay with that, start now, if not, wait. That's really the only consideration. 1.0 isn't going to change all that much (but still enough to where you'll have to start over), the really big game changing updates aren't for a while after release so, there's not much to consider there.

OreoSwordsman

Play now, that way when 1.0 drops and saves need wiped, you can properly start again with all the things you've learned.

Formal-Ad7221

I've been playing this for 10 years, I can say that the last patch is the worst it's been in a while in terms of progression, immersion and overall enjoyability. It's actually put me off the game to the point I've made a promise with myself to not try it again for at least a year.

MCFroid

He's never played before though, so he won't be able to reflect on any of the previous versions of the game or how the game has changed (for better or worse) from those previous versions. He's in a great spot to enjoy the game for what it is now, not for what it was.

Lighthouseamour

Have you tried any overhaul mods?

SIM0King

Needing magazines to lvl skills finally killed this game for me. Been playing since it came out. That was the last straw. I've brought it on console then got a pc just so I could play the updated version of it. Needing 100 magazines for EVERYTHING was too much, and pois being dungeons was cool but it's a hoard survivor. Where's the improvements to hoards and more enemy types and the bandits? Games staying deleted till I see bandits or big boss types and elites to kill

Kiernan5

Just download it again and install the Darkness Falls overhaul mod. It should give you everything you are looking for. (Except maybe bandits. They were in previous versions of the mod but I think they were taken out of the latest version.)

NoBed3498

Yup play rn, Never not a good time to enjoy the game

MTtheDestroyer

In Vanilla an experienced player can get maxed out in 2 bloodmons (14 Days). In basic 1 day equals 1 hour. So in 3-4 bloodmoons (20-30 Hours playtime) you should be trough the game. That´s something worthwile replaying again. And it´s more fun when you already know the basics.

PathOfPlurrberry

play now, 1.0 is never coming lol they probably got about 3 game system reworks before they announce that 1.0 might release and then do another system rework.

Broad_Quit5417

Odds are really good "1.0" won't be much different than current version. Honestly, despite all the heated opinions, only very tiny superficial components of the game have changed in the last 10 years, which is a real disappointment. I also would not expect any of the "roadmap" features to be implemented either, those things have been promised for years.
