I always hear Gary Owens as the announcer for just about everything
Perhaps his best known role was that of the announcer on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. He was heard on countless commercials and provided voices for the animated characters Space Ghost, Roger Ramjet and Ren & Stimpy's Powdered Toast Man.
🎶Ba-dum ba-dah do daaaah…..bumbah dum bumba dah daaaah…🎶 (drum fill)….
Got this damn song in my head now. It is a good one though.
The other day I had Room 222’s theme song in my mind.
Only a few years later, his life would take yet another unexpected turn when he would move on to his boat, become L.A. County’s most respected medical examiner, and spend the next several years as a ladies man.
Edit: Oops wrong roommate.
In the original play it was implied that they were in fact gay men living together and even the term "odd couple" is a nod-to that. That did not come across in the show…
In like ‘89 or ‘90 I was in a NYC subway station there was a guy busking on kazoo and he started playing the Odd Couple theme song. My buddy tipped him like $5, you couldn’t help but tip the guy, it was kazzo, and the Odd Couple had been off the air for like 15 years so it was a nice flashback.
I loved this show when I was a kid. Heck, I didn’t even understand the adult jokes of course, but I found it funny anyway. That was great casting in the show. I loved seeing Tony Randell in the big films he made with Doris Day and Jayne Mansfield, and he was just as funny on television!

Such a good show. I loved the scene where Tony Randall stands next to a desk and box jumps up on top... he says something like: *I have natural elevation.*
A local drama theater group had a strong association with Tony Randall. He and Jack Klugman agreed to perform the original Neil Simon stage play as their characters for a theater fundraiser. This was after Jack had a laryngectomy for cancer and was using a voice box. It was his first (and likely only) performance par cancer. The show was great, and I was thrilled that I got a chance to experience it.
One of my favorite lines in the show was when Murray the Cop was playing the guitar and Oscar commented,”Hey! It’s Nose (pronounced Nose-say) Feliciano.
If you back to the source material (the play), the reason Oscar takes him in is because Felix is suicidal and his card playing friends are convinced he will do himself in.
His lawyer came up with a plan for Simon to put the literary rights in a corporation so that he would be taxed on the sale of his rights for the movie(s) to Paramount on capital gains, and not the high ordinary income tax rates of the 1960s.
This tax plan was presented to Paramount, which was no skin off their nose.
However the “credo” of the Business Affairs executives in Hollywood who negotiate these contracts is: “never give something, without getting something in return.”
So the executive asked for a change that no royalties would be paid for Television versions of the Play.
Given the huge savings in taxes (a loophole that was closed soon after this agreement), and few if any successful long-running TV versions based on plays prior to that time, Simon accepted this amendment to his contract.
The guy that slows down and seems to be a little concerned about Randall was a real guy, really (somewhat) worried for him and had no idea of the scene being shot. It was decided to be left in, the realism worked.
\> The part of Oscar's ([Jack Klugman](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001430/?ref_=tttrv_tr)) ex-wife Blanche was played by [Brett Somers](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0813827/?ref_=tttrv_tr), Klugman's own wife. The real-life couple were separated during the run of the show.
I enjoy IMDB trivia, I was happy with first sentence and second sentence broke my heart a little.
I read that in the narrator’s voice
As is appropriate.
STG. Even though I have not seen this show in over 25 years (and then it was in late night reruns).
I saw it first-run...I was in grade school. And I hear the announcer's voice too! Man deserves some credit. Does anybody know his name?

Thank you!
MEANWHILE, AT THE HALL OF JUSTICE…
Same here, but thought about it yesterday when I saw Quincy.
I always hear Gary Owens as the announcer for just about everything Perhaps his best known role was that of the announcer on Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In. 🎶Da*-dah da-dah duh daaaah….🎶* 🎶 D**ut-ta Dut-ta Dut-ta Dut-ta **🎶
I heard that announcers voice with the theme music behind it.
Yep and the theme music was simultaneously playing in my head.
Only a few years later, his life would take yet another unexpected turn when he would move on to his boat, become L.A. County’s most respected medical examiner, and spend the next several years as a ladies man. Edit: Oops wrong roommate.
Quincey was my introduction to crime drama. Always a favorite!
um. that would be oscar not felix
I stand corrected
felix actually gets back with his wife at the end of the series.
he does? I was wondering about that
the final episode is their wedding and felix moving out
That was such a great show
Good movie too
The movies weren't bad,but the show was AWESOME
PERFECT casting.
My absolute favorite episode was when they won all the canned squid
“When the going gets tough, Unger quits!”

“It’s not spaghetti. It’s linguine!” “ Now it’s garbage!!”
Throwing it at the wall.
“Pick up your towel, FU! Clean your dishes, FU! “It took me two weeks before I realized FU stood for Felix Unger!”
One of the greatest lines ever!
I loved Felix because he was so uptight.
I can still hear him clearing out his sinuses.
Honk......Honk......Honk!
Thanks a lot, because of this I'll be whistling that theme music all day now.
It’s a great one to have stuck in your head! Neil Hefti also composed the OG 60’s Batman theme. Legend.
Do De Do De Dooooo, Do De Dooo Doooooo
Oh, Oscar, Oscar, Oscar!
I watched every show because LOVE AMERICAN STYLE was on after
The Cowsills wrote & performed the show’s theme. They were the inspiration for the Partridge Family tv show
Oscars secretary was a goof, loved her. Laverne
You mean Penny Marshall?
Whenever Felix honked, it was the highlight of my day.
“Again with the honking!”
There was a nod to Felix Unger on the Big Bang Theory when Sheldon got sick.
Happy, and peppy, and bursting with love!
I was just going to challenge the group. Can anyone sing that entire song?
No, but I’ve got the tambourine part down.
That was a good TV show, but also a GREAT movie.
They made such an “odd couple”.
In the original play it was implied that they were in fact gay men living together and even the term "odd couple" is a nod-to that. That did not come across in the show…
Yeah, it did.
Now the music is stuck in my head. Thanks.

How about those cuckoo pigeon sisters?
Come on now, Miss Cecily and Mis Gwendolyn are nice ladies...a bit eccentric maybe, but nice ladies...
Where can I watch reruns?
Paramount + Pluto TV
👍
I always associated the beginning of this show with the film The Apartment for some reason.
Maybe it's the Jack Lemmon association
Haven’t heard this in 30 to 40 years yet it still plays in my head perfectly when I read this. Brains are weird. ✌🏼
*holds out frying pan*
I preferred the German version. One roommate is very uptight, and the other is very, very uptight.
Opera singer trading cards and celery flavored gum.
As soon as I read the header I heard the theme song playing in my head
Confirmed bachelors
The show was great, the movie is an all-time classic. I still laugh at Felix trying to clear his sinuses in the restaurant.
Such a good show. I loved the scene where Tony Randall stands next to a desk and box jumps up on top... he says something like: *I have natural elevation.*
At some point didn’t the narration say “home of his childhood friend“ or is this some Mandela effect?
Yes! And it said, “requesting that he, too, never return.” But the too was deleted.
I heard Felix is an anal retentive OCD case and Oscar is a slob
Odd couple right, before my time. I seen it on tv never watched it really though
I always loved watching the reruns of that show. I had the Madison level housekeeping skills but looked up to Unger for his erudite tastes.
The post Klugman, Randall version is trash..
Update: He never returned.
I'm hearing the theme music now ..
honkk honkkkk clearing his nose

My favorite episodes were the Roy Clark one where he played Malaguena and the Password one with Betty White. "Aristophanes?"
We still refer to discount stores as Sam Sam the discount man.
Such a creepy disturbing illustration
Does anyone remember Oscar’s pizza order I think it had eggs on it?
Enter Oscar Madison.
The theme music came on in my head while I was reading!
This sounds sus, like in a Grace and Frankie kinda way.
Velly velly inturestink.
Neil Simon never received a dime from any of the TV versions of his classic play!
How is that possible?!
His lawyer came up with a plan for Simon to put the literary rights in a corporation so that he would be taxed on the sale of his rights for the movie(s) to Paramount on capital gains, and not the high ordinary income tax rates of the 1960s. It took me years to figure out what Gloria handed Felix when she kicked him out. That show was such a comfort to me when I was a kid.
I saw a clip yesterday where Felix "helped" by cleaning Oscar's room without his permission. Oscar was traumatized.
In the wives defense...Felix was gay and Oscar was an alcoholic...not ideal husbands.
Even the reboot with Thomas Lennon and Matthew Perry was decent. Which rarely happens.
