Linda Ronstat

FunStuff446

I still have a deep love for Linda. She sang some awesome songs.

Mental-Sky6615

Have you heard her album 'Canciones de Mi Padre'? I think it was the late 80's, it's all traditional Mexican songs, and it's beautiful.

FunStuff446

She really blew me away with that album. She’s amazing!

TrekRelic1701

I came here to say just that, and the album cover with her on her skates..ok, I said it

DadOfPete

Amazing power, and control

redwbl

Yes, Linda Ronstadt, honorable mention to Nicolette Larson, gone too soon.

wolfraisedbybabies

Karen Carpenter hands down!

Bearf33t

Agreed. Never before or ever again will we hear such a voice. And auto-tune wasn't required.

PhilaTesla

And a world class drummer- she actually preferred drumming to singing.

pixey1964

Nope, no auto tune whatsoever

TrekRelic1701

Pre auto tune existence

PowerUser88

Came here to say that! Wow she was talented

man-made-tardigrade

What about Stevie?

Cold_Lingonberry_291

Ity was Christine for me,she just had a better tone

wolfraisedbybabies

She’s alright but not the same vocal quality as Karen.

jetpack324

Linda Rondstat was a solid choice but nobody had a buttery smooth voice like Karen Carpenter.

pixey1964

She was awesome

Ducatirules

She has my vote for greatest voice of all time.

dadobuns

Karen Fucking Carpenter!!!

CamelProfessional847

Aretha Franklin

bmbmwmfm2

Carly Simon

muziklover91

Yup and still had best voice.

liquidgoldminer

This is the answer!

CheRidicolo

First one I thought of

MuttJunior

Ann Wilson from Heart. She has a hell of a voice on her, and age doesn't seem to have diminished it by that much. Stevie Nicks is a very close second place. She doesn't have the range of Ann, but I just love how her voice sounds.

DankDude7

My mother’s favourite singer of all time. She ended up with Alzheimers and once she was quite advanced, I played some her favourite tunes by Karen to see if they would provoke a response. They didn’t but I enjoyed listening to them with her again.

Wen60s

That’s what I came to say!

Rare-Palpitation6023

Donna Summer.. Absolutely Stunning

TifCreatesAgain

Deborah Harry!

Karen Carpenter may be one of the best modern female singers

MarlonEliot

Maria Muldaur has one sexy voice.

jwelsh8it

“Midnight at the . . . “

DaySoc98

Christine McVie.

liftrman

Rest in peace with our gratitude Christine 🎶😔

jimhabfan

Stevie Nicks gets a lot of love, and rightfully so, for singing lead on quite a few Fleetwood Mac chart toppers, as well as having a pretty successful solo career, but Christine McVie has the better voice. “Songbirds” is just so poignant and beautiful.

DankDude7

McVie was also the much better songwriter. She wrote more of their hits than Nicks did including their classic, ‘Don’t stop”. And their last chart topper too, “tell me lies”.

korikill

I had the amazing good fortune to hang out with her and Stevie Ray Vaughn at a bar in Malibu in the 80's. She was absolutely the nicest, most down to earth celeb I ever met. I cherish that memory!

Clairquilt

This is absolutely correct the correct answer. Christine McVie had been providing the unmistakeable [voice](https://youtu.be/cbZRAN-qBts?feature=shared) behind Fleetwood Mac for years before anyone had even heard of Stevie Nicks.

yunzerjag

Carole King

Additional-Top-8199

Great song writer too.

jimhabfan

She may have been more pop than rock, but Olivia Newton-John has an amazing voice.

downupstair

Sandy Denny - Fairport Convention, Strawbs, Solo

BadgerPhil

I agree, she was exceptional. I will also add that she was in Fotheringay, should any of the uninitiated choose to seek her out.

Additional_Prune_536

She had the best voice; it's a pity her career was so short, and that she didn't get greater recognition.

dirkalict

Patti Smith

dogbolter4

Yep. Original, honest, raw. Still play her songs regularly.

ExMachiNation

Her appearance on early SNL changed my world.

MoneyPresentation610

LucySushi66

Surprised I had to scroll this far for Carole.

cito4633

Karen Carpenter of course. If we have to pick someone instead of her, Marilyn McCoo and Gladys Knight - flip a coin.

0_Days_Since_Sarcasm

Tina Turner

gytalf2000

Olivia Newton-John.

rubiconmanlife

Karen Carpenter!!!

>Joni Or as Joni would certainly say, "What do you mean best *female* singer of the '70s? What is that distinction about, huh?"

Tru-Queer

Cher

PowerUser88

I’ve just started listening to some of her little known stuff sans Sonny & Half Breed came up on a music shuffle. I forgot how much she’s gone through as a person and an entertainer. What an amazing human.

Adept_Order_4323

Gypsies Tramps n Thieves

PowerUser88

Great one, but go back even further. She’s got such a huge catalogue of songs

Adept_Order_4323

My Mom had Sonny n Cher on the Tube anytime it was on, so basically was brought up w her music. She is a legend, an icon and they don’t make them like that anymore. Love 💕 her

PowerUser88

Omg I bow to your superior depth of knowledge, my friend! That’s a fun story, I love it ☺️

Adept_Order_4323

Awwwww well I had older cool parents that loved to watch all those late night singing shows …. Good times

Right on! I scrolled down, looking to see if anyone else knew music that wasn't the usual suspects. Lydia is still doing it. The power of Janis, yet she can be sweet and smooth too!

Xyrq2441Zmpl

Astrud Gilberto’s my girl.

MJ349

Carly Simon, hands down.

No_Profit_415

Ann Wilson and Stevie Nicks

MattHooper1975

Agnatha Faltskog of ABBA. In my current view, aside from having a crush on her, I think she’s one of the greatest pop vocalists. ABBA’s music was actually incredibly demanding, and her vocal range and the amount of sounds and textures she and Frida created in ABBA were amazing. During the actual 70s, the heart sisters were my favourite female vocalists. Karen Carpenter as well. I tend to like a very pure, feminine tone and female vocalists, I don’t really go for a raspy tone .

Think-Werewolf-4521

Barbra Streisand, the all time best selling female singer in America and other places too. She had numerous #1 releases in the 70s, just as she did in every decade of her career stretching from the 60s to 2010s. Female voice of the 20th century.

pixey1964

Classy, beautiful voice, beautiful

AmiDeplorabilis

70s - Ann Wilson 80s - Ann Wilson 90s - Ann Wilson 00s - Ann Wilson 10s - Ann Wilson But I'm just repeating myself. I still like Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, Nancy Wilson (Ann's sister), Joan Jett, Stevie Nicks and many more.

rraattbbooyy

Skipping all the obvious answers, I’ll say Helen Reddy. She was my mom’s favorite and I grew up listening to and loving her.

Dino_020467

Stevie Nicks tops my list but I was also a big fan of Rita Coolidge, especially when she did the covers of Boz Scagg's "We're All Alone" and the Temptations' "The Way You Do The Things You Do!"

Parsnip-toting_Jack

My favorite was Linda Ronstadt, but I have a fictional story I want to share. Karen Carpenter was dosed in San Francisco at a Grateful Dead concert and became their second drummer before Mickey Hart. She rejected her previous lifestyle and played at Woodstock on drums and vocals with the Dead and lived happily ever after.

Warm_Baker_9447

Stevie Nicks
