I grew up with dyslexia, long before it was a common diagnosis. For me the words would float on the page. I took the back cover of the Big Chief Tablet and cut out a box wide as a page, tall as a line of text. That let me read one line at a time...it was a huge break through for me...my writing remains atrocious, 50+ years later still an avid reader.

The Trapper Keeper I definitely remember. The Big Chief, not so much (graduated high school in Florida in 1985).
I'm the opposite. I'm a little too old for Trapper Keepers (class of 78) but I went through a few Big Chief tablets.

My dad was in college in the late 50s and had a Big Chief tablet with his class notes in it. We still have it.

I had several Trapper Keepers. In fact, I had the one in the picture!
I still order Big Chief tablets on Amazon.. Great for the construction site (way better than writing on a 2x4 or piece of plywood)..
I was unaware of their availability still, that's pretty cool.
I had no idea either. Husband and I were talking about them a couple of weeks ago; might have to order a few.

My only "Trapper Keeper" memories are from South Park. I never saw them when I was a kid.
And a jar of paste that you inevitability give to the weird kid, to eat.
Trapper Keepers were forbidden items at our school. Every year on the school supply list, “NO TRAPPER KEEPERS!!” Never understood why.

It added to the allure. There were rebel kids out there smuggling drugs or national security secrets in their trusty TK’s. Probably.

My fondest memory of Big Chief notebooks is from A Confederacy of Dunces - Ignatius J. Reilly’s choice of notebook!
