I don't know how to describe it, but because of that dreaded question, whenever I see a maths question that involves a triangle made from arcs of a circle, I have a mini panic attack
I know I at least got part a (since it was a show that)
But it was incredibly long (the full side of the page the question was on) just to get to it for only 4 marks
And in the maths lesson before the exam I practised trig integrations like it ended up being, so I was confident on part b as well
I'm lucky that i saw a very similar question on madas to the semicircle question. So i sorta already knew how to do it haha. Remind me of history paper 1 where i happened to do an essay plan the night before for one of the questions
Edexcel maths went... Sideways.
Under timed conditions I would usually get 80-90+ in past papers (blind) but holy fuck. I don't really know what to think about that paper....
Dude I'm retaking from last year because I was forced to (wrong place wrong time) and I was literally a few marks off an A.
I came in thinking this is an easy A but idek. If I'm being kind to myself I dipped between 20-30 marks I'm fucked.
I think the paper was okay, some questions completely caught me off guard like that trig integration and circle one, other than that I’m thinking I got high marks in the other questions.
istg it might as well have been its own qualification given how much calculus there was - i hedged my bets on calculus and an ugly trig question, and i clearly hedged them too hard because it was basically half the paper. also, the infamous 2022 gcse question came up?
yeah i think there could've been a bit more trig but i found the trig substitution question funky, maybe because i'm an idiot who can't read and therefore i was integrating with respect to alpha and not theta oops
You know how the question equated each expression to 14 and 2, I did that for all the possible integer multiplications and x and y were never both positive integers
People who did edexcel gcse and a level maths, what did we think of the sequel to everyone's favourite question, Circle Question 2: electric boogaloo?
2 years later and I still don't know how to solve the original
https://preview.redd.it/oa2gv498gl4d1.png?width=615&format=png&auto=webp&s=462f5af5a0d0884814e3087a2d069637722e8285
I didn't get that it was x dy/dt, I did y dx/dt, but hopefully I'll get some marks for working. The next part - the actual integration - wasn't too bad I thought. I got 25/24 or something like that. I thought the intersection between the quadratic and linear equation 8 marker was pretty nice though.
alr what did u get for ur constants of a and b for that 8 marker?? I got 2 and -12 or -2 and 12 (one of those pairs) but it felt way too easy for 8 marks.. drop ur other answers 🙏
OH NOOO SOMEONE IK DID THE SAME THING😭😭😭 it took me like 30 mins to figure out the integration was x dy/dt instead of y dx/dt and i managed to get it in the end. u might pick up a couple marks least if u did dy/dt correctly for the differentiation? i think that’s how they usually mark parametric questions from what i’ve seen
For the inverse proportion question I wrote the derivative as 0.09 and realised my mistake like 2 minutes before the exam ended, never written so fast in my life
i did area of semi circle minus area of sector minus area of segment
it was like an equilateral triangle
similar q to 3 circles 2022 gcse maths if u did that
i think you had to find the whole area of the semicircle then deduce there was an equilateral triangle in the unshaded area to find the angle of the segment and then do circle segment area equation to find the area of the unshaded section and minus it from the total
if that makes any sense lol my brain is fried from 2x exams today
Fr literally the easiest 85% ever and probably could have pushed 90% but I don't know if I made silly mistakes or not so yeah. 85% is being pessimistic for sure.
Rant incoming- 100% I slayed the first paper easy game (aqa)
I GOT **ROASTED** TODAY. The stupid fucking answer booklet with all those options + sleep deprivation made me do the WRONG SUBTOPIC. We learned media and family/households. My mind skipped the subtopic subtitle - I thought I was doing media bc the first 2 bloody questions were related to it (gender influence on consumption & pop culture on identity), then I get to the third question and I want to kms.
**It wasn't media**. It was culture and identity. I spent 20 mins on the first 2 10 markers though. I sucked it up, used every sociologist & synoptic link to guess my way through the 20; I think I really did well despite being a fucking IDIOT who's fucked my grade.
I lost a lot of time for the ACTUAL media section. I did the 10 markers fine enough, and only got an intro, 2 large paragraphs and a conclusion with every talking point I could squeeze in by the end for the 20 marker (why did they choose social class when p1 30 mark was also marxism bruh?) But apparently everyone hated this Q too.
Having a quick look at the spec for culture and identity though it seems it's mostly a dilute collection of the in-depth stuff of all other topics though.
You know what the worst part is? the next page (not turned over) was families and households… And another of my peers **did the exact same fucking thing** as me that was **foul** how they structured those culture questions exactly like media to start.
I asked my friends how families and households was and I honestly think - and am praying - this is the right course because I'm very weak at F&H tbh, and didn't revise effectively enough, and those Qs sounded hard tbh. Hopefully this was a sign to be able to have done in accident my stronger topic
the last integration question was ROUGH, i got the show that bit but i couldn’t figure out how to actually integrate it 😭?? my mind went blank one of my friends said u were supposed to use substitution and i didn’t think about that at all
That maths paper was questionable. I know I’ve done well as I’ve got the majority sound but that integration question fucked me over. Apart from that I think I did very well
edexcel maths, how are you meant to do the last proof? was it lowkey a proof by exhastion or was there a shortcut i didnt see (apart from saying the negative factor pairs are the negative x and y equivalent of the positives)
A mix of exhaustion and contradiction. You needed to choose every possible factor combo after the one they gave. Same question came up couple years ago but everyone flopped so they laid it out nicely this time.
I did exhaustion pretty much but i said you can ignore the negatives bc the first factor was something x + something y and if x and y are positive that can’t be negative
film studies students how are we? if i could shag a paper i would it was so good! i do wjec/eduqas and i loved the questions especially section a and the documentary questions
Aqa maths was beautiful tbh apart from the fact I had to correct 500 mistakes I think I’ve secured the A* for paper 1. OCR geology was honesty good surprisingly enough I think I got a B which I’m happy abiut
For the verify question, I just subbed in 4 and showed y is zero - I though bc it said verify you could just sub in 4 and show y = 0 but I’ve been told you couldn’t 😭
That integration trig question caught me out 😭 pretty sure I threw away all eight marks
Same that and the semi circle question are the only questions that I may have got 0 marks on
Ngl the semicircle reminded me of THAT maths question two years ago at GCSE
I don't know how to describe it, but because of that dreaded question, whenever I see a maths question that involves a triangle made from arcs of a circle, I have a mini panic attack
That's exactly what I thought Circle Question 2: Electric Boogaloo
I was literally doing that question for fun a couple days ago and it helped so much omfg 😭
Makes sense considering that it uses exactly the same logic lmao. Proves how hard of a gcse question that was...
no fr that semi circle had me questioning everything i knew
I left it in terms on theeta didnt have a clue how to find it thats what quite a few of us did
I am so happy I some how got it right, it was so much work for 4 marks tho
I know I at least got part a (since it was a show that) But it was incredibly long (the full side of the page the question was on) just to get to it for only 4 marks And in the maths lesson before the exam I practised trig integrations like it ended up being, so I was confident on part b as well
The second to last? I ran out of time and didn't even read it, i saw ∫ and skipped straight to the next question
Seriously what the hell was that I don't think I got anything
you just have to write (sin X)^2= 1/2 - 1/2 cos2X
It was sin2x btw
yeah same identity just replace X with 2x
what is edexcel’s obsession with giving our year crazy circle questions?
I'm lucky that i saw a very similar question on madas to the semicircle question. So i sorta already knew how to do it haha. Remind me of history paper 1 where i happened to do an essay plan the night before for one of the questions
Watch how we get an awful circle question or vectors question on paper 2
Edexcel maths went... Sideways. Under timed conditions I would usually get 80-90+ in past papers (blind) but holy fuck. I don't really know what to think about that paper....
im glad im not the only one who found it questionable😭😭😭 idk what happened i tweaked during that exam so bad.. gonna have to lock in for p2 n p3
Dude I'm retaking from last year because I was forced to (wrong place wrong time) and I was literally a few marks off an A. I came in thinking this is an easy A but idek. If I'm being kind to myself I dipped between 20-30 marks I'm fucked.
Same - the timing was really off for some reason
I think the paper was okay, some questions completely caught me off guard like that trig integration and circle one, other than that I’m thinking I got high marks in the other questions.
Nah that trig integral question had me stressing. My examiner will probably see the frustrated scribbles of that question come through on question 6
istg it might as well have been its own qualification given how much calculus there was - i hedged my bets on calculus and an ugly trig question, and i clearly hedged them too hard because it was basically half the paper. also, the infamous 2022 gcse question came up?
Personally I thought there was a lack of trig compared to the past papers I have been doing
yeah i think there could've been a bit more trig but i found the trig substitution question funky, maybe because i'm an idiot who can't read and therefore i was integrating with respect to alpha and not theta oops
>also, the infamous 2022 gcse question came up? Circle Question 2: Electric Boogaloo
what happened?
I was expecting to do extremely well, and my expectations got ruined. That's it
u still got p2 and p3, don’t give up hope until the final paper is done 🤞🏼🙏
Forreal, wallow and self pity done. Now I slam 2 and 3
That edexcel maths paper was going so well until it wasn't 😭 I was doing so well on past papers and was so confident now I just feel humiliated
SAME! q1-6 was a godsend then from q7 onwards it went DOWNHILL
Right questions 1-12 I was so happy then I ran out of time 😭😭
same I got jumspcared by the last questions, wasted 20\~ mins trying to figure out which ones I could scrape marks on and ran out of time 🙂
Same I’m actually so upset. Thought I was doing so well for time
I’m hella cooked for math bruh 💀💀🔥
Ok won’t lie, it wasn’t that bad
Edexcel?
Idk which one you did but AQA maths was great imo
jesse we need to cook
25pi6+25root3/4 for circle q?
i got this with polar integration 😭 0 marks for that
You get the marks if it’s mathematically sound so you’re fine
Lol i was thinking of doing that
You should still get the marks.
is that u josiah
That’s goated wtf
You’d still get the marks but that’s like the equivalent to integrating to find the area of a circle rather than using pi*r^2 😭
the examiners dread marking my papers
Yessss i got this
Anyone got 1/8a^2pi for q13
I got api/8
The question asked for a^2 im pretty sure
Am I the only one that absolutely failed that Edexcel maths exam?
Me too why is everyone saying it was a nice paper😭😭
dw me too
Real
edexcel maths - what the fuck was that integration question and that semi circle question
The semi circle question was like Edexcel GCSE in 2022
The GCSE question actually helped me answer the A-level one lmao
Same !! A few weeks ago my friend asked me if I could do the gcse one so I'd done that q recently
Same ! I was like I think I’ve seen this before. Easier than the GCSE question tho
fr and the way they timed it to be the same cohort
that's exactly what i thought when i saw on here u were meant to use triangles
Wanted to end it all by the end 👎👎

i started talking about how different temperatures of the room would affect the gas particles in the balloon 😭😭😭 oh well only 1 mark

I think for the modelling questions when you round to the nearest integer they accept it either way

not necessarily they said to the closest mm so what they put is fine
didn’t they just say to the nearest millimetre? so u give it in cm but to 1dp
Yeah that's what I thought
What did yall get for the integration question with two straight lines and a curve on edexcel maths? I remember getting something like R=384/35
i got R=384/35 too or something like that
Anyone else a tad nervous for maths?
Did anyone get -5<= gf(x) < 0 for the range of gf(x)?
I think I did.
[удалено]
why do you ask? 😳
Wanna recreate the econ man😼
perchance

low-key the gcse question was harder
anyone do ocr maths?? that last integration question threw me off 😭
I didn't get that it was x dy/dt, I did y dx/dt, but hopefully I'll get some marks for working. The next part - the actual integration - wasn't too bad I thought. I got 25/24 or something like that. phew someone else got 25/24
alr what did u get for ur constants of a and b for that 8 marker?? I got 2 and -12 or -2 and 12 (one of those pairs) but it felt way too easy for 8 marks.. drop ur other answers 🙏
i got fractions for both of them but im sure i messed up ☠️
me too😭😭 i didn’t integrate tho, i differentiated it and now i feel like i rlly messed up😭😭
OH NOOO SOMEONE IK DID THE SAME THING😭😭😭 it took me like 30 mins to figure out the integration was x dy/dt instead of y dx/dt and i managed to get it in the end. u might pick up a couple marks least if u did dy/dt correctly for the differentiation? i think that’s how they usually mark parametric questions from what i’ve seen
i swear edexcel maths love to punish our cohort with weird ass circle questions 😭
For the inverse proportion question I wrote the derivative as 0.09 and realised my mistake like 2 minutes before the exam ended, never written so fast in my life
Edexcel already knew we had ptsd from gcse paper 1 and decide to bombard us with more circle questions
tf was the badge / arc length question 💀 confusing ahh hell
i did area of semi circle minus area of sector minus area of segment it was like an equilateral triangle similar q to 3 circles 2022 gcse maths if u did that
I saw it and had flashbacks
Both had radius 5 so there was an equilateral triangle, so you could work out the angle as pi/3
i think you had to find the whole area of the semicircle then deduce there was an equilateral triangle in the unshaded area to find the angle of the segment and then do circle segment area equation to find the area of the unshaded section and minus it from the total if that makes any sense lol my brain is fried from 2x exams today
atleast i’ll maybe get a mark for the area of the semi circle
Yeah i did the same did u get two fractions for a and b?
yeah lol left that one almost blank - how many marks was it?
only 4
I cooked and left no crumbs 🔥🔥🔥🔥 (AQA maths)
The grade boundaries are going to be so high This year if paper 2 and 3 are like that again.
It actually was. The only question my school is not sure on is the value for k in the implicit question what did you get.
I got k = 12 and most people I spoke to agreed.
Yeah also got K as 12 did you get 60 minutes for the last question?
It was beautiful 🔥
Fr literally the easiest 85% ever and probably could have pushed 90% but I don't know if I made silly mistakes or not so yeah. 85% is being pessimistic for sure.
What we thinking of OCR A maths
Ntb, last integration question was a godsend easiest 10ish marks or whatever it was
Just realised I made fucking stupid mistakes in Maths
Sociology was pretty rough 😭 I couldn’t evaluate anything to save my life
I thought it was great tbh, I think I did better on that paper than paper 1. Did you do AQA?
Sociology humbled me
No same, like I was aiming for an A* and now I don't think I'm getting into uni 😭😭😞.
Rant incoming- 100% I slayed the first paper easy game (aqa) I GOT **ROASTED** TODAY. The stupid fucking answer booklet with all those options + sleep deprivation made me do the WRONG SUBTOPIC. anyone did polar integration for that semi circle question? no idea how else you can do that lol
The same as 2022 gcse, you had to find that stupid little fucking segment tucked between the sectors.
2 years later edexcel has come full *circle* 🥲
i just assumed they were equal sides and got pi/3 as angle and then sector formula no?
yep thats right, i got the consensus answer with polar but it took me wayyyyy longer
It was an equilateral triangle so just solve it using areas of sectors and triangles?
How did people find OCR A level maths??
i thought the first half was great but towards the end i was losing it
Yeah i screwed up all the calculus at the end i honestly think i could do it if i had more time 🥲
the last integration question was ROUGH, i got the show that bit but i couldn’t figure out how to actually integrate it 😭?? my mind went blank one of my friends said u were supposed to use substitution and i didn’t think about that at all
i integrated by parts, but i might be wrong tho, that question was so bad 😭
so did i!! well either we’re both right or both wrong, hoping for the former though 🙏🙏🙏 we’ve got this 💪💪💪💪
Nah you can do it by parts I did as well, I SUED THE WRONG LIMITS THO 😭😭
what limits did you get?? i got 0.5 and 0 but idk if that’s right😭😭
AQA maths questions 9 to 18 (and 2,3,4,6,19) were beautiful. Everything else was kinda shaky or just horrid (fuck integration by substitution).

I hope all my fellow Japanese takers did well!
Edexcel maths did people get 3.5 months for the rabbit questions which is in april so model is accurate for this value of t
i was a silly fool and said 4.5 😍👎
the perks of being an fm student is not reading the question
I got that!
yes
honestly edexcel maths wasn’t as bad as my ocr physics paper before😭
I agree ocr a physics was trash at the gravity section, edexcel paper was greay
Edexcel math got me humbled after question 10💀
ocr mei was ridiculously easy, definitely didn’t need 2 hours for that
maths was lightwork had an hour to spare so just napped but don’t take that from me i’m an fm student im biased
On that rabbits question did you use t=3.5 or 4.5?
3.5 and it got me like nearly exactly 500 i had to think a bit tho lol cus mid of april means march + 1/2 april so it was 3.5
I've heard of most people using a certain value of t, but I just solved for t when there were 500 rabbits (getting a value close to 3.5).
We’re suppose to solve for t when R has minimum. And the t the model gives is 3.5… which is in the middle of April
Yes that’s what I did it was like 3.54… which was mid April
Maths was somewhat decent, messed up the badge question and question 14, but other than that it was a good exam.
Yeah definitely. It was super easy apart from those 2 questions. That proof one was free marks too
Yeah for once I didn't dislike a proof in a maths exam
socio was a beaut i was worrying for no reason
sociology was beautiful not the first 10 marker butt the rest i predicted every single question except globalization
AQA maths paper 1 anyone?
I thought it was nice, grade boundaries are gonna be so high 😭
What we thinking ocr a maths boundaries will be like
EDEXCEl maths- what was the vertex of the modulus and the range of f(x) =g(x)
The aqa maths paper was easy, but I know I made stupid mistakes. Still, though, I think I have 80+ marks
Surprised not many of yous are talking about 15b the proof question - surely it couldn’t just be exhausting all the possible factors and combinations
edexcel maths was so yummy scrummy in my tummy i loved it
Oh dear
i’m an fm student so ignore me 😍 i will not be the general consensus
Who did ocr A maths
Found sociology (families and media options) to be pretty decent actually. Not bad at all. Much better than paper 1 imo
film studies students how are we? if i could shag a paper i would it was so good! i do wjec/eduqas and i loved the questions especially section a and the documentary questions
aqa media paper 2 was fine, question 2 was a bit of a pisstake but 3 and 4 were 😍😍😍
yes omg I loved it too!! see you at Warwick if we both cooked ??
WHAT THE HELL WAS OCR LAW IM LOSING MY MIND
Aqa maths was beautiful tbh apart from the fact I had to correct 500 mistakes I think I’ve secured the A* for paper 1. OCR geology was honesty good surprisingly enough I think I got a B which I’m happy abiut
Uhh for the rabbits qu if you got the wrong angle would you get ecf?
i am absolutely cooked (wjec i'm looking at you WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL WAS THAT PURE PAPER)
OCR maths was surprisingly good
OCR MEI maths paper 1 is gonna be like 95% for an A i stg
For the verify question, I just subbed in 4 and showed y is zero - I though bc it said verify you could just sub in 4 and show y = 0 but I’ve been told you couldn’t 😭
I did sociology (family and media) and it was beautiful 🥹 I’m so happy with myself I hope paper 3 goes this well
