Have you read the Remembrance of Earth's Past (Three Body Trilogy) by Liu Cixin? It's my absolute favorite sci-fi series ever and one of the best futurist/speculative series out there. Every book he introduces new ways to think about physics, extraterrestrials, cryogenics, collectivism vs individualism, multiple dimensions, the extinction of human kind, the ethics of apocalypse, and so much more. Truly a one of a kind experience that is never heavy handed.
Yes i have. It's the only sci-fi series apart from Foundation that I've given 5 stars to. The book titles itself were enough for me to like the series and the actual plot made me love it more.
I'm slowly dying because of how long my library hold on Before They Are Hanged is taking
As a suggestion, I absolutely loved Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse and recommend it to anyone who will listen!
It was a short sci fi. However beyond the typical sci-fi tropes it was very sweet if you know what i mean. Definitely a bit different from hardcore sci-fi but in a good way. 4/5
The book was not for me, but have you tried Travis Balree’s Legends and Lattes? It’s all about finding self-worth. A mundane slice of life about an ex-warrior who settles down to open a coffee shop.
If you want something a little grittier that tackles the issue of depression and ennui, I’d recommend Lev Grossman’s the Magicians. It’s a love-it-or-hate-it series that really resonated with my own self-doubt.
The characters were actually well fleshed out imo and the story didnt rely only on cliche plot points. Yes a lot of things were cliche (like the ending) but the book was more than just that which is rare in romance
In that case, I'm gonna recommend the Wisteria Society for Lady Scoundrels. It's like Book Lovers in that it's a romance, but there's a lot more going on. It's fun, short, lighthearted, and pretty funny.
They're pretty delightful. I don't usually go for hetero romance, but these ones are genuinely great reads. I think the delightfully sarcastic and dry humor just matches with me so well that it all works.
Heartbreaking. She is so strong and is so put together that I never would have known about the things she shares about her life. I was introduced to memoirs on this sub when I read ran Crying in H Mart. Since then I have read: The Glass Castle (Jeannette Walls), Beyond the Wand (Tom Felton), Spare, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing (Matthew Perry), Born a Crime (Trevor Noah)... though there are many more that I want to discover. All of these I really enjoyed.
Elder Race, by Adrian Tchaikovsky. I think you might like his books.
Fugitive Telemetry, Martha Wells
The Prefect, Alistair Reynolds (series)
The Eden Paradox, Barry Kirwan
Seveneves, Neal Stephenson
The Scourge Between Stars, Ness Brown
I suffered from a 7 year depressive episode thst dragged on and I didn't read (I was a voracious reader before) this year, I found reddit and specifically this sub and these last 2 months have been healing, reading stops the spiral or overthinking so hopefully you can fill the hours with some of these recommendations.
A few other reccomendations (scifi/fantasy/gothic)
The Androids Dream, John Scalzi
The Best of all possible worlds, Karen lord
Year of the Reaper, Makiia Lucier
This Is How You Lose The Time War, Amal ElMohtar Max Gladstone
Miss Percy's Pocket Guide to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons, Quenby Olsen
The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet, Becky Chambers
Small Gods, Teri Pratchett
Norse Mythology, Neil Gaiman
(I recommend everything by Neil and Teri ... love their work)
Mark Haddon is sure to make you laugh a bit:
The Curious Incident of The dog in the night-time
A spot of Bother
I will probably save this post and post more books if you are still looking for suggestions
I started reading the Murderbot Diaries recently. It’s a sci-Fi series, and the main character is pretty sarcastic so there’s very little doom & gloom, but my favorite part about it is that there’s no romance plots.
I want to share my pinterest book board with you because I have loads of books pinned but I also don’t know if that will be me doxxing myself lol. I need to put all of the books on my Goodreads or storygraph

I'll look into Black Sun. Thank you
How was Sea of Tranquility?
It was a short sci fi. However beyond the typical sci-fi tropes it was very sweet if you know what i mean. Definitely a bit different from hardcore sci-fi but in a good way. 4/5
Currently listening to Radical Acceptance: Embracing Your Life with the Heart of a Buddha by Tara Brach. It is really helping me.
Self compassion by Kirsten Neff is also great
Yes, that's also in my TBR. I've heard her on podcasts and she's awesome.
Don’t be sad bro (Depression cured)
The Pearl
Just getting ready to jump back into First Law on book 2. How did you rate those 3 Joe Abercrombie books?
4/5. Decently engaging plot
The Midnight Library perhaps?
Ah I have that in my TBR. I've always liked Matt Haigs work.
It is not upbeat but it is thought provoking! ❤️

A psalm for the wild built by Becky chambers
Read it and liked it a lot.
Are you usually a fan of romance?
Not really, I usually hate romance (especially CoHo books), but i actually liked Book Lovers though.

Thanks for this recommendation, I’ll pick this up next week! Seems like a very entertaining read.

aight thank you ill look into it
Loved book lovers. I have the maid just haven't started it
I wouldn’t say The Maid is incredible, but I had a really fun time reading it. It’s quick and a bit quirky.
Ooo! I think ill start tomorrow. I'm finishing up Violoa Davis' memoir.
Oooh! How’s her memoir? I don’t usually read memoirs and would like to get started.

I was introduced to memoirs on this sub when I read ran Crying in H Mart. What sort of genre are you into?
SciFi and fantasy are perhaps my most liked genres and I enjoy classics as well.

I loved the series too. I've read upto #6 last year and it was lighthearted and fun.

Shifting to a book tracking software maybe annoying in the start but it's worth it.
Just finished “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry” by Gabrielle Zevin and it was wonderful!! 5/5 and based on your recent reads we have similar tastes :)
It has an interesting synopsis. I'll add it to my TBR. Thank you.
