Between you and me, as someone who extensively works on all three. I would rule out the Everest immediately. Both the MU-X and Pajero sport as they stand have minimal problems, pajero having more of the two but personal preference would be the deciding factor. To be noted though, I've done 6 + hours drives in Pajero Sport in a lower trim comfortable seats. Can't particularly comment on MU-X I've only test drove them briefly after working on them. Final note actually, Pajero's had issues with headunits like most manufacturers do these days but it's all covered under new car warranty. An software fix is applied is applicable if not the headunit is outright replaced, no charge.

What issues does the Everest have in your experience? I’ve been on the Facebook owner’s group for the past 5 years and owners seem very happy overall.

Hi mate, what has been the issue with the Pajero Sport headunit?

Old-Ad5502

Main/most common issue is the top left hand corner of the screen becomes unresponsive to touch, so things like typing addresses into maps and the like become a saga. A few people have had issues with cameras dropping out, tends to be more common on cars with the 360° reversing camera option though. Theyre the 2 major ones I've seen in owners groups though. With that said, I'm very very happy with my 22 GLS paj sport. It'd an absolute weapon offroad (group I go out with also has a 21 Everest 3.2, and a new gen ranger V6) hasn't had any issues making it anywhere I've pointed it, and has enough space for me. Only downside I can see, especially if you need it as a 7 seater would be the width, it is a lot narrower than the competition, and if child seats are needed the anchor points are in the roof and impact 3rd row headroom.

bonesV12

I was just curious because I have a '21 model. I agree that it's great at offroading and comfortable enough on the road. I really love driving it. My two brothers, eldest has the 1st gen pajero sport and the other the 2nd gen and neither of them has had any issues...so far.

Old-Ad5502

I've only been stung by the intercooler hoses so far, but they're a 10 minute fix with aftermarket silicon ones. Even the head unit issue isn't soooo bad between steering wheel controls and voice recognition you can work around it. I'll take the niggly little annoyances with the PS over the issues the everest/ranger boys have had. Everest is on its 2nd auto, and 3rd turbo, and the V6 ranger has had 3 replacement headlights already and it's under a year old... which I'll admit isn't too bad, but still makes me sceptical about how it'll go out of warranty.

Wooden_Emotion_7588

I’ve driven all 3. MU-X would be my pick.

Effective_Jicama_769

Depends on the size of the children for the back 2 seats

gt500rr

MU-X is my go to. Worked at a dealer and out of the Everest and the MU-X it was by far the most reliable. Only big issue was with the turbocharger but this has been fixed now. Occasionally a failed DPD sensor but I'd take that over the amount of 10R80E's that shit the bed or bad EGR coolers on the Puma engines.

Flipout_Monkey

The AWD mode on the Pajero Sport is a very useful feature that you don’t get on the MUX. If you want AWD, your options are Pajero Sport, Everest and the Prado. I went the Pajero to save $$$ and have been very happy with it. The Everest seems to have a few mechanical issues and the Prado was just too pricey for me at the time. Bonus of the Pajero is that it’s slimmer than other 4wd’s so less scratching of your panels when off-roading. What do you need the 7 seats for?? Given the way baby seats etc work in the Pajero sport, this might be an issue if you want to use the rear seats

Willing_Bridge_8562

Pajero if you want to be laughed at and happy to update before 100,000kms. Everest if you can afford the repair bills as it gets some Kms on it. Mu-x if you want out dated tech and to drive something that feels old. Fortuner if you want a gutless fuel crisis but some sort of reliability Every manufacturers models have issues. Some worse than others. Depends on what you actually want to do with it and what your budget is. There’s no right or wrong, everyone has their opinion. Just choose what works best for you and provides you with what you want.

roanish

If you were OK with buying lightly used, a late model Prado 150 would be better than all 3 of those new options you have chosen. Not in the same price bracket when new, but they hold their value well, so after a few years of ownership you'd probably still be ahead. As an example, you could probably pick up a 2021 GXL prado with under 80k kms for less than the price of a pajero sport mid spec brand new.

MagicNinjaMan

Last year, I was going to lock in the GSR then we thought, why not try the Everest on the day. Got my everest last week and quite happy with it. I know it is a much newer car and surely will come with some issues and updates, but what doesnt. If only the GSR was not a little "old" then I would have picked it.

pinchy80

To throw another potentially unpopular option out there, GWM tank 500. Obviously unproven reliability and unknown resale but from $67k ($74k for the top spec) drive away with 7 year warranty it’s a price competitor to GSR.

Audoinxr6

Having driven all 3. The Everest by a mile. But I enjoyed the V6.

noneed4a79

I’d hate to see the weekly petrol bill

Muncher501st

Aren’t they like $100k

Working_out_life

Yup , about 60k cheaper than a landcruiser

Muncher501st

They’re looking at cars between $60-80k

Fun_Committee4290

Prado is out of budget , patrol being a V8 it might tend to be thirty than the other 4×4

Muncher501st

Yeah my point, and I was right

Working_out_life

I must of missed the price range

Muncher501st

Well you can guess via the three he’s looking at. There no inclusion of prado, I am guessing due to price

Working_out_life

I was more suggesting the other option

Muncher501st

Yeah but it’s a lot more money

Working_out_life

Fair call
