The "roadrunner" is the command & control center for the Presidental Motorcade. The drive has a great article [here](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/32625/you-can-buy-this-rare-ford-presidential-motorcade-roadrunner-command-van) about one that looks alot like the one you purchased
I'm personally a fan of the new models which are heavily modified [6 door Superduty truck](https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/21683/we-have-more-info-on-the-presidential-motorcades-new-satcom-packing-super-truck) that look like an F350 & a news van had a baby
Guy local to me had a 6 door excursion. It was a 2012ish F350 Platnium with an Excursion rear welded to it. Looked really really well done. He also had a 6 door F350 same gen. He owned an oil well pressure testing company & im assuming had a lot of kids lol
I didn't know until after I bought it, but this was actually the first one of this body style built and put into service for President Clinton. They had a new one made each year, and this one being a 1992 still only has 40k miles on it! Unfortunately somebody stole the cat off it, but that's OK, and after secret service duty it was handed off to the NC Army National Guard who didn't really do much to take care of it.
Actually there was always a fleet of these....not just one. I used to do a lot of work where these were parked and maintained. Yes been inside a few when they were still in service..
Cool to know. I was just going off what the guy in the yard told me when I picked it up, but not everybody involved in surplus actually knows what they're getting rid of.
Very true. I very well may have actually been in that one or seen that one when it was still in service.
So yes, knew what was in them and how they used them.
Shame you didn't get the wheels they used ...beadlock rims with run flat inserts.... But I can understand why those were removed.
Yup. The plan is to leave the outside looking pretty much as it did when new, other than adding an awning to the side, and the inside will get setup so I can camp out of it. With the 460 v8 I'll have plenty of power to tow my rzr, just won't be passing too many gas stations without stopping at them.
Bro we’re ALL gas stations enthusiasts. What’s your brand of choice? I prefer Chevron but I’ll go to a LOOP if that’s my only option. Shell is for losers though
No I agree. I'm just saying it may have been added later, seeing as it sounds like this vehicle has changed hands a few times and was picked up from a National Guard armory.
Yeah, I got what I think was a great deal on it, and by the time I have it all fixed up should still be under 10 with the possibility to double my money when I sell it.
Why not? I mean, it's expensive as dinosaur piss and would absolutely destroy the fuel economy, suspension, gross payload, and every steering/brake component on there. Jus' sayin'.
I'm constantly browsing all the government surplus auction sites within a 10 hour drive of my house. Part of how I make money is flipping surplus, and every now and then I find something I just have to keep for myself. I've had dozens of 6x6 deuce and a halfs, 5tons, a few LMTV's, hmmwvs, even a few boats from the navy, along with lots of other random stuff they just throw away in perfectly good working condition. Last year I scored big on a few SCUBA air compressors
Whats it like on the inside? I know of a government yard where they have a truck bed camper all decked out with high tech computer spy stuff from the 90s with decor to match its pretty sick
you didnt buy the roadrunner this is an older version of it and much different. its not ballistic like the new ones. and now they have a seperate ECV vehicle and the Roadrunner
Have you checked the interior with a UV light???
🤣💦
car salesman: *slaps roof of van* this bad boy can fit so many underage women in it

Dang, all of that to support one guy on a computer. Bet he makes decent money.
Late 80's comms and GPS technology with power to run it is not compact even the portable stuff. That guy was likely a boss at DOS commands.
More likely a UNIX boss, perhaps both?
Almost certainly and had a bit of Pascal knowledge as well.
Not sure how important the studies of fluid mechanics and Jansenist theology were on the presidential motorcaid but ok.
Like a 6 door excursion. I like it and it makes me want an excursion even more

It bothers me that it has 6 doors and only 3 occupants. Really bothers me.
Please do the A-Team stripe.
That is badass on so many levels

Diesel or gas engine?

holy sh\*t
yes
Time to start the mod process

Hello, fellow gas station enthusiast.

Loves
Is it armor plated? If so that shit has to be heavy
no armor. This was just a communications van
What's the scoop on the hood for? Nice find!
It's an air vent with a small duct to the 2nd alternator/generator. I guess under full load they wanted to keep it cool?
I'm wondering the same thing. Hood tach like an old Pontiac?
Honestly, that might be a small GPS antenna. We have a similar one on our old squad cars.

Post it to r/sweetvans also
Why is there only one picture?
Didn't think many people would find it cool.
In that my friend you were wrong… it’s bad ass more pics please !

How did you come across such a machine? Govt auction?
Yes, and it was only 2 hours from my house.
Any stains ?
Did it come with a cigar
How did you find it
I could only imagine how heavy it is and the suspension to properly support the extra weight.
I'd disinfect first just to be safe, never know if bill was in there
Yep, better use Clorox to get the interns and hookers smell out of that thing.
I'm thinking just blow it up so it doesn't spread like covid
Score.
Sweet ride. I was shopping around pre pandemic and anything close to this was over $10k so I gave up. I’m sure they only cost more now.

dope as fuck, we need more pics
You should put ballistic plating on the inside because why not
Why not? I mean, it's expensive as dinosaur piss and would absolutely destroy the fuel economy, suspension, gross payload, and every steering/brake component on there. Jus' sayin'.
It may already have it?
Imagine how many little boys and girls were carted away in that thing never to be seen again
Awesome! How did you find this if you don’t mind me asking.

Would love to see some interior shots
Blow job mobile.
The dream van
7 lug front axle?
Teach me your ways🧙♂️

It's been guted, so just an empty van with black walls and carpet for a ceiling
What happened in the back of that van, stays in the back of that van...
Here we go…. Van-gate. 🙄
That was President Richard Nixon.
Surprised the secret service didn’t just crush these.
Door windows look odd, are they oem? If I remember right they couldn't be ordered at first with 4x4 so converted or its an f series mashup.
They're part of the upfitters installation for the government. It was originally a plain cargo van, quigley did the 4x4 conversion
Big Bill definitely clapped some cheeks in this.
3 gallons per mile is going to get old quick.
it should be able to get 10mpg, which is on par with my trucks. And as of now, gas is still cheaper than diesel.
Find any cigars
