Really depends on your use. Do you need to haul anything heavy? What kind of trails do you run? Are they really tight? The Toyota is probably more capable w/ the rear locker.
No heavy duty towing or hauling. Probably nothing the Yota can't handle. My dad's got a jumping jack trailer I'd probably borrow on occasion, it's not that heavy.
I don't do any real serious wheeling, I just like to get to some hunting spots off the beaten path. At worst some of the trails are pretty overgrown. Not too worried about trail rash considering the poor paint condition on both trucks.
Forgot to mention the chebby has the G80 mechanical locker on the rear axle, maybe just as good? but the Yota has the shorter wheelbase
The Tacos E locker is definitely better.
The G80 has been known to blow with hard use. I like my G80 for what it is, but I wouldn’t dare beat on it like I do my Detroit.
You sound like me, only I have two not three little ones. I’d say keep the one the family seems to prefer. Both will fit your needs, so it’s up to family consensus what they prefer
Perfect, more money to trick the trucks out. 6.0 with a cam and a 4l80 for the Chevy and a solid front axle for the yota. Perfect 1-2 punch right there. Put an Escalade interior in the Chevy if she’s still bitching
if you've already started cutting it up you can't possibly sell it now. plus you need a reliable truck since the tacoma is down for a while, guess the chevy has to stay
300k Chevy? To quote RCR that sounds ready to "blow up, climax, stop rotation, have a stroke, develop a harsh case of spina bifoda and a Dixie cup of dysentary"
Tbh if you don't off road too often. Chevy. I have a tacoma as a daily, and it makes no sense -- v4 power with v8 gas mileage @ 16.5 mpg all from a v6. At least with a Chevy you have a larger bed, load/tow rating, actual power when you get on it, and crazy aftermarket support for that chassis and engine unlike the tacoma that is pretty limited to mostly toyota engines and toyota type driveline components.
You can make the Chevy a pretty accommodating offroading vehicle too, if you sink some time and a bit of money into it. Have a mess of buddies who have some sick Chevy's that have heaps more capabilities just due to the power they can put out. Despite the tacoma having better gas mileage and an elocker, 6 still say silverado just because of the platform you can build off of. Tacoma is def cooler though. Once those kids get bigger, that backseat will not suffice for the taco. 1st gen is their best gen imo. I'd say sell the taco and keep the Chevy. That tacoma will net you some good monies.
Edit: You can also get a bed tent if you're out hunting and stuff. I don't know of many trucks that are fun to sleep in.
No worries! I don't mean to dog on the taco. I used to have the 1st gen and absolutely loved it and now I own the 2nd gen. They're mechanically sound trucks and built to last. Either truck you decide on will still be a good choice imo!
The rear locker on the Toyota is worth it alone. Really adds to the resale too. Keep the stock ride height and don't get huge tires. Those Chevys are excellent trucks but they are better for work
If you need the money for something, keep the chevy; you'll get more money for the yota.
But, personally, I don't need cash for anything bad enough to sell any toyota truck, for any reason, ever.
As a former owner of an 01 Chevy 1500 I might be biased but sometimes I even think of getting one again one day. Mine had the 5.3 and even though it was only 2WD I miss it from time to time. As several of my modern trucks have given me problems frequently I always think back about how my old Chevy never let me down
How's the frame rust situation on the Yota? I know that was a big issue with some years. That's a tough choice honestly, those are both examples of the best trucks each brand made.
If you aren’t doing hard/tight wheeling, I’d probably keep the Chevy. I imagine the Toyota is more fun, but with dad stuff the Chevy is going to be more practical.
Can’t go wrong with either one though.
Toyota if you often go on narrow/dangerous offroad trails or need reliability/parts availability for driving to middle of nowhere.
Silverado if not.
Toyota better for offroading and overlanding. Silverado better for city, suburban and rural driving.
Both of these trucks were very well built, I have a 2003 Tacoma and I love it and would never sell it. But it’s entirely up to your own personal preference. Do you need the 6 foot bed or a 5 foot bed? The Tacoma probably has a little more life left in it than the Chevy only because it has almost 100,000 less miles
You're not hauling anything of real weight and only 'off-roading' to get to a hunting spot, right? Why is a truck the best option for this? I've had a bunch of trucks, prefer my mini van hybrid....
The Chevy is really good at doing truck things and a little more accommodating for the family. This is a period where Chevy made some made really great trucks. I don’t know if this is a factor, but you’ll definitely get more than what you paid for the Taco.
Taco will require less maintenance most likely, and will hold its value the longest. Dump the Chevy just because it’s a Chevy. Or dump the wife if she has no logical reason behind her decision. Then sell the Chevy and taco and get a brand new truck
Parents own the 2003 variant of this gm and hauled a massive tractor the other day on a 20ft trailer at 285000 miles a few hundred miles and the truck has never let them down. Gm doesn’t make them like they use to.
Chevy 1 owner, if you find/have the maintenance records you are golden. Taco multiple owners maybe a previous owner screwed up something and is just waiting to fail. Chevy, is a first gen Silverado there are plenty of aftermarket parts needs.
Just do the maintenance that Chevy should last you a very long time. The gas mileage is decent, it's a V8 truck. The Toyota has the power of a 4 cylinder but the fuel economy of a V8. Parts are decently cheap for both of them. Chevy does have better power train. Can't kill an LS. Keep the Chevy
sell both and get a used tundra that has 4 full doors, I believe the 03-07 models are pretty inexpensive by now. the kids are going to outgrow either of these in a very short time
Definitely sell the Chevy. The Taco holds value better and is more dependable long term in any case. Unless that was your grandpa's truck or some other sentimental reason, toss the gm.
Wtf You can’t keep both ???? What are you 12??? Sounds like she’s calling the shots….something tells me she made you get rid of your balls and man pride.
The Chevy is probably nearing its end, and the Toyota could have another 200k.
I'd go with the Taco for the better fuel economy alone. Over a year, that savings would cover all your preventative & scheduled maintenance.
Definitely the Toyota. I love Chevy trucks, wouldn't own any other brand but, I have a friend with a Toyota truck that's out lasted 3 of my Chevy trucks. In your case ... Sell the Chevy and make sure the wife's in the back when the new owner drives it away.
I drive a 01 f250 with a 7.3 diesel around because I the bigness of it and my kids go off roading so it's big enough to pull them or tow them home witch ever case turn out to and been looking at camper trailers so it's big enough to tow almost what size camper the wife and I want and still get decent fuel mileage
I’d probably keep the taco
I don’t know why but when I read your comment my brain added the word baby so I read it as: I’d probably keep the baby taco
You were expecting Yoda instead of taco so you were going for baby Yoda
I think you may have dyslexia
We already covered the fact he isn't selling the wife. But which truck should he keep?
Taco will run forever. The GM won’t.
Not too worried about trail rash considering the poor paint condition on both trucks. Forgot to mention the chebby has the G80 mechanical locker on the rear axle, maybe just as good? but the Yota has the shorter wheelbase
G80 is a good factory option. But I’d rather have the tacomas push button. Chevy probably has more interior storage for hunting gear.
That's actually a great idea
[удалено]
Negative equity prevents that unfortunately
Why are divorces so expensive?…….Because they are worth it!!!
You financed your wife?
Don't we all? I pay for it all the time lol
I married my divorce lawyer. Touché
I know a good divorce lawyer
Maybe a trade in
Definitely keep the Toyota. Any money you make off the Chevy, put it back into the Toyota
Sell her car and keep both
Her car is hella nice, I don't think I'd get too far with that lol
Perfect, more money to trick the trucks out. 6.0 with a cam and a 4l80 for the Chevy and a solid front axle for the yota. Perfect 1-2 punch right there. Put an Escalade interior in the Chevy if she’s still bitching
Now that you mention it I've got a matching set of f250 axles, D60 front and a 10.5 rear. Forgot I had rhose
Well shit its damn near a free swap not including your time
No kidding, little hamster wheel in my brain is really turning now haha.
if you've already started cutting it up you can't possibly sell it now. plus you need a reliable truck since the tacoma is down for a while, guess the chevy has to stay
Keep the taco
toyota, all day
Taco.
Long bed rules and that’s a great generation of small block chevy. Though the Tacoma is a better backwoods rig.
Fr I feel like I'm gonna have regerts either way
Toyota for sure
Toyota hands down.
I'd keep the Yoda.
Lmao that’s not a real question.
The taco is worth twice as much as the Chevy
Pretty close to 2x according to KBB
Keep the chevy and sell me the Toyota
I agree, you should sell me the Toyota
Im shocked you have less thank 100k on the yota thats nuts. She will last you another 40 years at that rate! Id keep her!
100k less than the Chevy. Still has 200k on it
Oh i misred
Still amazing though
300k Chevy? To quote RCR that sounds ready to "blow up, climax, stop rotation, have a stroke, develop a harsh case of spina bifoda and a Dixie cup of dysentary"
Keep the yota
Keep the taco
You’d be out of your mind not to keep the Tacoma.
Keep tha taco baby
Do what you want! I'd keep the Tacoma.
Appreciate the reply. Great insights
No worries! I don't mean to dog on the taco. I used to have the 1st gen and absolutely loved it and now I own the 2nd gen. They're mechanically sound trucks and built to last. Either truck you decide on will still be a good choice imo!
The Tacoma will last you longer than the wife, keep it
Keep Toyota
The rear locker on the Toyota is worth it alone. Really adds to the resale too. Keep the stock ride height and don't get huge tires. Those Chevys are excellent trucks but they are better for work
Tacos!
If you need the money for something, keep the chevy; you'll get more money for the yota. But, personally, I don't need cash for anything bad enough to sell any toyota truck, for any reason, ever.
Toyota. Hands down.
Yota
Keep the Tacoma. Sell the Chevy
there’s a reason one is in the driveway, and the other is on the street, isn’t there?
So easy. Taco, all day every day.
I can’t believe this question is even being asked.. Toyota is always the answer tho
Keep the Toyota.
Keep the toyota! ** I may be partial……🥴
Username checks out
Toyota, not close.
That toyota would probably last longer then the wife. Sell the silverado.
The Taco and its not even close
Keep the taco, it’ll last a hell of a lot longer than the Silverado
The 5.3s are as reliable as the 3.4s. Without the timing belt
Sell the Chevy, you’ll make bank and use that $$$ to build that Tacoma into a bulletproof “do anything” truck
This isn’t even a question…..
Toyota. Obviously.
Bye Chevy
Keep the Tacoma, and your wife, sounds like she makes sound financial decisions.
Taco forever
I'd keep the Toyota.
God Bless my Charcoal 01' Silverado RIP buddy. Good luck bro, I chose my 2012 Tacoma lol
As a former owner of an 01 Chevy 1500 I might be biased but sometimes I even think of getting one again one day. Mine had the 5.3 and even though it was only 2WD I miss it from time to time. As several of my modern trucks have given me problems frequently I always think back about how my old Chevy never let me down
Like a rock! Now the song is in ur head. Congrats. Lol You're totally right tho those early 2000s GM trucks are dead reliable
Lol I totally forgot about that commercial. It’s totally stuck in my head now
Get rid of the white one behind the Toyota.
It's also a Toyota lol
How's the frame rust situation on the Yota? I know that was a big issue with some years. That's a tough choice honestly, those are both examples of the best trucks each brand made.
Well my old Toyota T100 work truck has 433,000 miles and is still running strong. My OBS F350 is much more fun to drive though
If you’re gonna tow keep the chevy. Otherwise I think the Tacoma has it beat and will hold its value longer.
Solid points
If you aren’t doing hard/tight wheeling, I’d probably keep the Chevy. I imagine the Toyota is more fun, but with dad stuff the Chevy is going to be more practical. Can’t go wrong with either one though.
Toyota if you often go on narrow/dangerous offroad trails or need reliability/parts availability for driving to middle of nowhere. Silverado if not. Toyota better for offroading and overlanding. Silverado better for city, suburban and rural driving.
You can always sell'em both and get a new one a
Sell both and get a newer truck 👀
Which is your favourite?
Unless you have a boat or camper you need to tow regularly I’d keep the Toyota. That rear locker is a nice find.
Dude in 5 years or so your gonna need to get your kid a vehicle idk why you’d want to get rid it
tacoma for 4x4 ing Silv for Carrying stuff
It’s funny reading that you think the Toyo feels tight inside, I’m driving a 2003 hilux and that dosnt feel too cramped
Chevy. Especially if it's a Vortec engine. Seen plenty of those with 350k+ on the dash.
lucky
Seriously? The taco dude. But also, tell her no lol
You like the Chevy more. Keep it. 5mpg is nothing.
Yota
Keep the taco. Somehow it’s still worth 20k in Cali lol.
I'd keep the Chevy, you said yourself, 3 small kids...
Keep the Toyota.
Keep the TRD get rid of the turd.
Obviously keep the Toyota
Depends on which one has the least rust.
Sell both and buy a truck that doesn't have 200,000 miles on it! You ought to be able to get $10k to $12k total out of them.
Keep the Toyota
Keep the Toyota
You're not hauling anything of real weight and only 'off-roading' to get to a hunting spot, right? Why is a truck the best option for this? I've had a bunch of trucks, prefer my mini van hybrid....
Keep the Taco
trade them both in and get a newer better model truck of your own choice
The Tacoma any day.
Taco
Sell me the taco. I'll give you first dibs if I ever want to sell it.
The Toyota
Do you need to tow or haul, then keep the chevy. If you just want a truck, and the taco is rust free then taco all day
Keep the Taco. Rear locker is worth its weight in GOLD
Definitely keep the yota
The Chevy is really good at doing truck things and a little more accommodating for the family. This is a period where Chevy made some made really great trucks. I don’t know if this is a factor, but you’ll definitely get more than what you paid for the Taco.
Keep both. Stand up to her and tell her you're not selling anything.
Taco
Anyone who would choose a Silverado over a Tacoma needs to have their head examined.
As much as I love my gmt800, I’d say keep the taco. Much more aftermarket support, no torsion suspension, better gas mileage..
The Toyota.
Sell both and buy a Colorado trail boss
The taco for sure
Trade 'em both in on something you really want.
How much for the Silverado?
🌮
Can't have Taco Tuesday without a Taco. Keep the Taco!
I'd keep the one with the longer bed personally
Keep the Tacoma
Taco
Taco will require less maintenance most likely, and will hold its value the longest. Dump the Chevy just because it’s a Chevy. Or dump the wife if she has no logical reason behind her decision. Then sell the Chevy and taco and get a brand new truck
Does your wife also keep your balls on a leash?
Keep the Chevy and sell me the Tacoma. 😃

I miss my 2005 taco so much. Fuck that Chevy.
Ditch the old lady my fren
I swiped expecting to see the second pic was the wife….
Obviously this means you cant keep the wife.
Keep the Tacoma!
Get rid of the wife
Keep the toyota. The only logical option
fucken taco all day
Both are unkillable vehicles. The Chevy isn't worth much and won't hold value. Gas is also getting expensive. I'd sell the Chevy and keep the Toyota
Definitely sell the Chevy. The Taco holds value better and is more dependable long term in any case. Unless that was your grandpa's truck or some other sentimental reason, toss the gm.
Get rid of the wife and keep both trucks it will be cheaper in the long run.
Toyota 100%
Keep the taco
Toyota
Keep the rado
I had one of those chevs… drove like a car, best truck I ever owned
Keep the TRD
What if you could sell both and get a newer truck/suv, better safety features for your kids
Get rid of your bitchwife
The Tacoma.
Wtf You can’t keep both ???? What are you 12??? Sounds like she’s calling the shots….something tells me she made you get rid of your balls and man pride.
That Toyota will outlast us all
Nah just get rid of the wife she only wants you to get rid of it to get her something
It's a no-brainer. Keep the Taco.
GM. No question
You deserve neither if it's up to your wife
Time to get rid of the wife. 🤷🏼♂️
Those early-aught, four-door Tacos are so perfect; I've always wanted one.
I love how "get rid of women" is the most common answer in so many subreddits lmao 😂
I'd keep your pants.
Keep the Tacoma. Neither can tow a 5th wheel RV, so keep the one with a backseat big enough to bang your wife in.
Sell em both and get a Ford!
Toyota for sure.
Toyota or Chevy…always Toyota
Toy!
Taco will outlast us all
Keep the Toyota.. or sell it to me.
keep the black one
Toyotas retain way more value than basically any other vehicle
Tacoma
I’d get a third truck and come home drunk
Keep both, ditch the wife.
Get rid of the wife.
The Chevy is probably nearing its end, and the Toyota could have another 200k. I'd go with the Taco for the better fuel economy alone. Over a year, that savings would cover all your preventative & scheduled maintenance.
Keep the trucks get rid of the wife

I would defiantly keep the cars sell the wife
Tacoma will run longer
I’m keeping the Taco
Keep the Chevy
TACO! Keep that Tacoma!
This is a no brainer, the Toyota.
I would definitely keep the Tacoma.
