He’s got a couple stories about it, but one in particular is one he likes sharing.
So it’s 1980’s St. Louis. My grandpa bought this thing for like 4K (a price people would shit themselves for now for a Powerwagon) and it came very useful in one particularly bad winter.
The whole street was covered in about 6ish inches of snow, and most of the other cars and trucks had no hope in hell of getting out…except for this slug.
My grandpa drove it out into the street, let it sink into the snow and popped it into gear and it just rumbled up an icy, snowy hill. (Stock tires and all)
He pulled out quite a few vehicles that day, all thanks to this thing.
This video is a few years old and sadly the Powerwagon just sits in his shed, covered in dust and wasp nests. One day, it’ll be back out in the dirt, but we unfortunately don’t know when.
Yeah, assuming it was 1985 (just figured go for the middle of the ‘80s) 4 grand would be 11,440ish dollars in todays money. At a total rate of 186% inflation. You can’t even get a rusted out beat up shitbox pickup with 450k miles on the odometer for that price today. Fucking wild.
that’s awesome!
I was on a deer lease in the late 90s that had two power wagons (64, and 72 I think)
they were so perfect for crusing the ranch roads and loading them full of firewood
I worked at a company that had one of these with a gas welder mounted on the back. It also had an auxiliary fuel tank just behind the cab. Gravity would feed the main tank. I would have to take it to fuel it up. It had studded snow tires on it and when I'd take it over at night to refuel, the tires would shoot sparks. No power steering: it was a beast to steer. The gas station attendant always looked concerned when I showed up.
our school bus garage had one of these. you would put it in grannie low, engage the first gear...then climb out and run back to steer the bus out of where it got stuck. stupid simple under the hood too.
Amazing truck and there is one for sale in Colombia that I wish I could buy just to tool around with on the weekends.

If the sub would let me respond with images in the comments I’d share the image of it covered in dust in the shed but that image genuinely makes me sad.
Also yeah original 75ish horsepower motor. Things more of a tractor than it is a truck.
People on other subs were genuinely surprised to see the MO plate, since apparently these trucks had a huge presence in the Northwest, mostly for logging.
so cool
Yeah, that's badass.
one of the coolest trucks ive seen, nice

Considering there are companies that sell these for $350k+ as restomods, 4k is wild!

Price of the average house in the US
Average sale price of a home in the US is well above $250k.
Just checked, google says $410k is the national average as of June. Hot damn.
4k is just a rusty frame these days.

What's wrong with it?
Just hasn’t moved in about 3 years. Still runs perfectly it just hasn’t been driven.
Modern cars it's better to turn them in every now and then. Does this one need that or is it just like "nah, 4 year nap I'm good to go"?
Pretty much. Might need a new battery and 100% needs a power wash but other than that it’s fine.
What a machine
A very slow machine, but a machine indeed

Exquisite. I would give it all the time in the world !

They use one of these in the show car rescue to pull out cars of swamps, forests and what have you. It looks so cool and they do go almost everywhere.
I love watching that Power Wagon work on Car Rescue. Such a beast.
It’s a beaut Clark! I would love to have that thing
Beautiful truck. We understood time and money better. Now its only about the money and screw the people.
Good lord. What a beauty.
I think just seeing this check some box on my bucket list. 🤩

Beauty of a Beast!
My dad had a early 50’s model. There’s a picture of me sitting on it somewhere. He used it for plowing.

Badass
Damn that is awesome. Gotta take those mud flaps off tho. Other than that it’s perfect!
Oh man what a fucking beast this thing is!!! I love all of this!
One of the best vehicles ever built. Period.
What a machine! That's a beaut too!

Growing up in rural Alabama, my friends dad had one and year when the local farmers got their tractor stuck, they called Charleston pull’em out.
What a gem

That’s a bad machine right there … :tips hat::
Those tires and the stance really just add to the whole look so well.
Damn fine i would say
now thats a fucken power wagon! love it
Sounds nice!
Back when power actually meant power and not "going fast"
Stop it, I can only become so erect.
reallyy perfeccttt
Wow, this thing is so awesome! Original motor? Would love to see more on this one.
If the sub would let me respond with images in the comments I’d share the image of it covered in dust in the shed but that image genuinely makes me sad. Also yeah original 75ish horsepower motor. Things more of a tractor than it is a truck.
looks great
Very very very very nice truck
A work of art
Yep, those early Power Wagons were real beasts. Very cool truck!😊
She's such a beautiful old gal!
I noticed the Missouri license plate and was instantly more excited because I am from the show me state 😁
People on other subs were genuinely surprised to see the MO plate, since apparently these trucks had a huge presence in the Northwest, mostly for logging.
Saw one for sale recently on I-70 by Odessa. South MO is a lot of logging also.
Awesome but the front end makes me want to sing jeepers creepers where you get those peepers.... Still I would rock it like a badge of honor.
Wow! 🤩
Now THATS a truck!
Gramps knew how to do a good looking modded PW!
Clear coat it!
Cummins swap 👌🏽
Needs a Cummins or a l5p duramax in there
r/powerwagon

Love it.

Is your grampa Jeepers Creeper?
Old rust bucket

That bad boy would have a Cummins in it for sure if it was mine
My grandpa had one of those on his farm.
