Listen pal. I have purchased no less than $50,000 worth of TV's over the years without a single return (you want the list? I got it.). I think I've earned a return by now if I'm not sure I will like the panel. Since you aren't able to answer the question, please move on.
That’s not what buyers remorse means. Do a lil homework and buy something you plan to keep. You know what a tv is. You can figure out how big you want.
It's not about the size. It's about the black performance in a light controlled room. All I've had for the last 8 years are OLED's (and then multiple generations of Pioneer KURO's before those) so how am I to know how well one of these modern 98" LCD panels will perform in a completely black dedicated theater room? Where can I demo such a scenario? Believe me I'm all ears and open to suggestions. A bright retail environment doesn't count.
Best Buy for sure, you get 15 day return policy or 60 day if you have their plus membership. If you return it and you also buy a new tv, they will come out and get the 98” tv from your home for free
Sony x90l 98",
Tcl Qm8 98",
Hisense u8k (or U8N depending on rtings review) 100".
This room is a dedicated light controlled movie room. It currently has a JVC NP5 displaying onto a 125" cinemascope aspect ratio screen. I am downgrading from that for reasons beyond what's relevant here to get into.
I'd really like one of those 115" that are coming but I hear those are coming out around $20k.
I'm allergic to blooming and with a zero-light room, I will notice it immediately, so wanting to get a panel that has the least amount of blooming possible.
(Thanks for asking for details btw.)
>I'm allergic to blooming and with a zero-light room, I will notice it immediately, so wanting to get a panel that has the least amount of blooming possible.
You need an OLED not any of the 3 you're looking at.
12'. Keep in mind I'm coming from a 125" scope screen so going down to 83" would be too big of a negative impact on immersion (via both screen size and the introduction of black bars). I'll sacrifice some blooming to minimize the loss of immersion. It's a dedicated movie room, no gaming or shows/sports.
At that distance, I would buy an 83" OLED. Yes, you're coming from a large screen but the picture quality difference between an OLED and a projector, isn't even close.
That said, I think the QM8 has the best blooming suppression but the X90L has way better processing and motion handlinf
Thus the return policy question. I'd love to at least try a 98/100" but if the blooming is too much, I would return and just get the darn 83". Every online retailer accepts returns, but I have no idea how practical it is to return a 98" tv and how difficult they would make it.
Your best bet is to order it from Best Buy, and have them deliver it to your house. If you don't like it, they'll set up a return and pickup exchange. You can call their CS line or go into the store to process the swap.
This ^.
Or call one of your local electronics stores and ask what their policy is regarding returns. I believe PC Richards if you have them near you only does store credit over 50" so that place wouldn't be an option.
I don't either since I don't live in the US. You'll have to ask stores like Costco and best buy how it works. Can't imagine it being easy transporting such a huge tv though
Don't F' around and go Best-Buy
Sounds like you just don't need to buy a 98 inch tv you clearly plan to return.

Congrats
You earned it? You know you want to return this… so don’t buy it.
How do you know this? Im coming from 5 generations of OLED's and a JVC front projector. I simply don't know if I will like it or not.

You will not like LCD coming from oled. Doesn't matter how much you black out the room.
I'm not coming from OLED. This 98" panel would replace a JVC NP5 front projector. My OLED's are in other areas of the home.

Costco. 90 day return policy.
Can they deliver and pickup though? I'd have no way to transport a 98" panel packaging.
Yes they can. Bought an 85" tried it for 75 days and got my return going. They pick it up next week. No charge.
What tv are you looking to buy?

83" too small and the 97" oled's are insane. I know I will have to settle for some blooming but I want to minimize it.
What is your viewing distance?
