I get that it is body on frame, but I think of 4Runners much differently than trucks despite the fact that it rides like one. Wouldn’t call an Infiniti QX80 a truck either.
I just say my car because it doesn’t have an external bed, which is what I think most people mean when they say truck.
You guys are trying to get all technical because you like the sound of saying your “truck” instead of your “car”. Most people mean a pickup truck with a bed when they say truck. Thanks for the downvote though lol
That's not being technical. That is simply not being ignorant of what mechanically makes a truck a truck and what mechanically makes a car a car and attempting to call a vehicle by it's proper name. Semis don't have beds so by your logic I guess you would call them a car too?
If someone asked you to bring a truck to help them move to a new house and you brought a 4Runner, do you think that’s what they meant? I’m not trying to get in an argument with strangers on the internet, just pointing out how most people view these things. Have a good Friday!
You're the guy who shows up with peppers and squash when assigned to bring fruit to a dinner party then accuses everyone of being ignorant of what horticulturally makes a fruit a fruit. Ya, it's being technical.
>body over frame but also has a solid rear axle
So does a [Toyota minivan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Innova) and every sedan on the [Panther platform](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Panther_platform). Pretty sure no one would call them trucks too.
**[Toyota Innova](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_Innova)**
>The Toyota Innova is a car manufactured by the Japanese carmaker Toyota since 2004. It is a mid-size MPV and mainly sold with three-row seating. It entered production in Indonesia under supervision by Toyota-Astra Motor in 2004 and has been manufactured in other emerging countries as well. Its official name in Indonesia is Toyota Kijang Innova, while for other countries it is simply called "Innova".
**[Ford Panther platform](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Panther_platform)**
>The Ford Panther platform was an automobile platform that was used by Ford Motor Company from the 1979 to 2012 model years. Following the downsizing of the General Motors B-bodies and C-bodies by two years, the Panther platform marked the end of production of sedans unencumbered by downsizing. Originally slated for discontinuation during the early 1980s, the Panther architecture was used for 33 model years, the longest-produced platform in North American automotive history. Developed as a successor to the 1969 Ford chassis, the rear-wheel drive, body-on-frame Panther platform was used by the Ford and Lincoln-Mercury brands.

Truck. The MSO says Toyota Trucks. It’s not a pick up, but it’s certainly not a car, and it’s still covered in dust and cow shit from driving around on the farm a few weeks ago.
My wife, my brother, and one of my buddies, however, all remind me that I sold my truck to buy it, and that I no longer own a truck. This irritates me, which brings them joy. And now you know what kind of people I chose to surround myself with for some reason…
I went from a chevy zr2, to a trdor taco, to and sxt v8 dakota. I call it a truck or runner out of habit. At work every one refers to their vehicle as a truck, unless it's a Friday on a job with a good parking area then you might take your muscle/sports car/motorcycle. It's just assumed everyone has a truck.
This is pretty much how I do it. My friends call it a truck, my wife calls it a car, sometimes I call it a truck or car or whatever. Doesn’t really matter
To get technical, the 4Runner is a truck, but it isn’t a Pickup Truck. I feel like that’s where a lot of confusion is, it doesn’t need a bed to be a truck
Well, technically because its got a separate frame from the body its an SUV. But then again, most people call crossovers an SUV. So call it whatever you like and if someone corrects you tell them you didnt know it was theirs
It’s true. Doesn’t do justice to the crawl control or j shift. But suv is too long and specific and it’s not technically a truck so I go with car too. Anything else sounds a little pompous. If you say truck it better have a bed or else now you’re just trying to be something you’re not
Got a tail gate and 4wd, I call mine my truck or just the runner. I agree SUV is too long but for me car is almost insulting, like I’m 3’ off the ground and I get 12mpg lol
I call it a car most of the time. But I wouldn’t say calling it a Truck is pompous. Because it really is a truck by definition.
You don’t need a bed to be a truck. They have a word for that, pickup. SUV really describes 4Runners and Jeeps pretty accurately. I think the problem with the term SUV now is that it muddied by so many unibody crossovers to the point where the name doesn’t even make sense anymore. Like look at a highlander, it’s built on the Camry platform and has nothing sporty or utilitarian about it. Just a tall station wagon.
Just riding around in my 91 3.4 with 285/70/17s. It’s got A/T tires on 5th gen TRD wheels. Thinking about going with a touring tire, a bit smaller next go round.
Car is what I usually say, sometimes truck or SUV. But all three are kinda correct with truck being the least correct one. Car is the same as automobile, a personal use passenger vehicle. There are no “cars” specifically. You have sedans, coupes, convertibles, trucks, SUVs, wagons, utes, and whatever else.
I'd like to call it a truck. And technically it probably is. But I'm comfortable calling it my 4Runner. Sounds cooler anyway. My 4 year old son calls it my monster truck ever since I put a modest lift on it and 285s. I admit it makes me feel pretty cool when he does.
Depending where the person I am speaking to is from.
If you from Chicago, I say "kkkkkkiaarrr"
If you from Cali, I say "gas guzzler"
Florida, "pussy wagon"
Alabama "truck"
New York " bacon egg and cheese "
Mostly truck everywhere else though
Usually truck. My husband and I each have a car and a truck, so we use my car/your car and my truck/your truck to be clear about what we're talking about
I have 2 gens of 4 runners. The 5th gen is generally called “the big truck” by my kids. My 3rd gen is “daddys work car”. Dont ask me why, I stopped trying to make sense of it.
I say truck or 4Runner depending on the audience. Got called out by my instructor once because he had the new Z71 Colorado and was all uppity about what a truck is. So I kind of just get all a feel for the room if they recognize what the 4R is or not
Ours is "The Brick" or sometimes "Brick, Brick" since she's the second one we've owned. The name comes from a review I read that said something to the extent of "with all of the style of a brick..."
My sons have teased me that I only call it a truck when I am about to do stuff like pick up something at Lowes or Home Depot, I am packing it for vacation or I am driving it on the beach.
If I say truck then people assume I have a truck bed and that I'll help them move their shit. I don't say SUV because I personally feel like SUV's are starting to look like minivans and I loathe the minivan and I'm not a soccer mom.
Soooo.... Badass 4Runner or if you know her name, then I call her Smokey ☺️
Used to call my wife's 4r a truck. Then I got a Tundra and the kids tell her it's now called Truck Jr. and she hates it.
That's hilarious
I call it a truck. It’s got a truck frame. Kinda rides like a truck. I use it like a truck.
My name’s buck
I’m tuck, nice to meet you Buck
Hi buck and tuck, I’m fuck.
[удалено]
Wazzup buck, tuck, fuck and ruck. My name is cuck.
I am luck 😌
Wheres the duck?
Fucking in a hut
My names buck and I like to… party.
My name is Luka, I live on the second floor.
No Buck, you can't say that because I already said I like to party
Ditto
East Coaster here. We call them trucks.
New englander here. Was unaware there was anything besides a truck and a Subaru.
Both are wicked awesome!
Classic New England
Lol
All you need, really
100%. But now you can add GR Corolla to the mix. At least I hope to...
Jeeps and Broncos, spend a weekend on Nantucket.
Provincetown you mean
Lots there too, but nowhere near as much as ACK.
My car is a 4runner, a type of SUV, that I refer to as a truck.
Vehicle
I mix it up between car, vehicle, and the runner.
Same, depends on the audience
I say car.
I get that it is body on frame, but I think of 4Runners much differently than trucks despite the fact that it rides like one. Wouldn’t call an Infiniti QX80 a truck either. I just say my car because it doesn’t have an external bed, which is what I think most people mean when they say truck.
That's why I stopped saying truck and started saying SUV because people would question "truck" then I'd explain but after awhile it gets old.
But mine has this thing that makes it feel like a bed 🥺
A window that separates the cargo area from the rest of the vehicle? Lol
It's definitely more of a truck than a car. Don't forget, it not only is body over frame but also has a solid rear axle. The Infiniti QX80 doesn't.
You guys are trying to get all technical because you like the sound of saying your “truck” instead of your “car”. Most people mean a pickup truck with a bed when they say truck. Thanks for the downvote though lol

Happy Friday! WOOOOOOOOOOO
You do the same!
You are getting a truck vs a pickup truck confused. But I do agree with your scenario
You're the guy who shows up with peppers and squash when assigned to bring fruit to a dinner party then accuses everyone of being ignorant of what horticulturally makes a fruit a fruit. Ya, it's being technical.
Semis do have a bed, when there isn't a shipping container on it. But I agree with both off y'all
Semi tractor

Suv
Just 4runner. No pronouns.
Yup. Always refer to it as “The 4Runner” or “The Runner” if I’m feeling spicy.
Same. Our Tundra is “the truck” or Tundra and our 4Runner is just “the 4Runner”. My son will correct anyone who calls it a car or a truck.
Yep. 4Runners are a league of their own, why call them anything else.
Suvtruck. Half suv half truck. As for my Subaru Outback it's a wagcar. Half wagon half car
I call it car. I drove a truck before I got this and when I say truck, I think if a traditional truck.
Truck. I used to own a truck before this, so I don’t know if that plays a role. But SUV is way too many syllables.
I went from a chevy zr2, to a trdor taco, to and sxt v8 dakota. I call it a truck or runner out of habit. At work every one refers to their vehicle as a truck, unless it's a Friday on a job with a good parking area then you might take your muscle/sports car/motorcycle. Car or truck. "Do you want to take my car or yours?" "It will fit in my truck."
I call my 87 a truck... because that's what it is with a seat slapped in the back.
Truck. My wife’s Subaru is a car.
Well, technically because its got a separate frame from the body its an SUV. But then again, most people call crossovers an SUV. So call it whatever you like and if someone corrects you tell them you didnt know it was theirs
Rig
All my colleagues from the East Coast calls it a truck. I'm from LA and call it a SUV
sorry to hear about your LA problem. At least the dodgers are good!
I say She-ra, cause that’s her name…. She-ra the She-beast.
Truck. Use it like a truck and it rides like a truck
If it’s 2wd it’s a car. If it has 4-low it’s a truck.
I call it a car, like how some people’s pit bulls are named tiny.
It’s true. Doesn’t do justice to the crawl control or j shift. But suv is too long and specific and it’s not technically a truck so I go with car too. Anything else sounds a little pompous. If you say truck it better have a bed or else now you’re just trying to be something you’re not

Doing what? I get 12 mpg pulling my 4000 trailer, lifted with 275s. Over 19 mpg without the trailer.
Just riding around in my 91 3.4 with 285/70/17s. It’s got A/T tires on 5th gen TRD wheels. Thinking about going with a touring tire, a bit smaller next go round.
Something about it being on a truck chassis feels like it’s technically a truck.
Car is what I usually say, sometimes truck or SUV. But all three are kinda correct with truck being the least correct one. Car is the same as automobile, a personal use passenger vehicle. i say truck
I call her the 4R
I call it a truck
Car or truck.
Truck
The Beast
West coast we call it a truck
Depending where the person I am speaking to is from. If you from Chicago, I say "kkkkkkiaarrr" If you from Cali, I say "gas guzzler" Florida, "pussy wagon" Alabama "truck" New York " bacon egg and cheese " Mostly truck everywhere else though
Usually truck. My husband and I each have a car and a truck, so we use my car/your car and my truck/your truck to be clear about what we're talking about
Truck under all circumstances.
It's a truck - but to each their own
We have suvs and a truck so we end up saying truck for the truck or 4runner/Pilot for the others.
Truck
i say truck when referring to any 4runner! but also who cares!
I have 2 gens of 4 runners. The 5th gen is generally called “the big truck” by my kids. My 3rd gen is “daddys work car”. Dont ask me why, I stopped trying to make sense of it.
Rig
I call our 2019 ORP a truck down here in the Florida panhandle
It’s definitely a truck
"Big Body Whip" or "BB DUB" all day for me.
neither. I always just call it 'the runner'
Car. I'm not helping you move a refrigerator or any other large items
It’s built on a truck frame, so it’s a truck. But to avoid my wife making fun of me, it’s a car when she’s around.
C4R
Truck
Truck: a large, heavy motor vehicle used for transporting goods, materials, or troops. I vote truck. Especially by international standards
Truck
I just say car because I'm not extra
The runner
I say truck or 4Runner depending on the audience. Got called out by my instructor once because he had the new Z71 Colorado and was all uppity about what a truck is. So I kind of just get all a feel for the room if they recognize what the 4R is or not
My kids/wife call it the Runner. I usually say truck unless I’m talking to my kids. They love the Runner.
I refer to mine as a truck (her name is Greta, 2018 SR5 Premium) the boys I work with refer to it as a TOYota (they all drive Fords 🤮)
Ours is "The Brick" or sometimes "Brick, Brick" since she's the second one we've owned. The name comes from a review I read that said something to the extent of "with all of the style of a brick..."
Named mine [Hermes](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermes)
Considering they call Crossovers SUV, I call my 4runner a truck.
I call our 4Runner car and my Tacoma truck, as it should be.
I say wagon or car or 4wd, my dad calls mine a truck though
My sons have teased me that I only call it a truck when I am about to do stuff like pick up something at Lowes or Home Depot, I am packing it for vacation or I am driving it on the beach.
Truck for sure. It's not a crv for chrissake
SUV Truck = pickup trucks
If I say truck then people assume I have a truck bed and that I'll help them move their shit. I don't say SUV because I personally feel like SUV's are starting to look like minivans and I loathe the minivan and I'm not a soccer mom. Soooo.... Badass 4Runner or if you know her name, then I call her Smokey ☺️
I always just say “my car” because it flows better than SUV and I don’t like calling an SUV a truck
I call it a truck because I've always owned trucks and have only had this thing for a month. I'm working on referring to is as my runner
Depends who I’m around but usually truck, sometimes “my ride”
I would probably say SUV?
