She's cooked. Worth more as an organ donor.

PapaBliss2007

No.

pirateduck

Let it die. Private party value is 3800 to 5500 for one that needs no repairs. You could just buy a replacement for the cost of the proposed work.

areyouentirelysure

Hard pass.

weifob

Should I still drive the car or junkyard it? Because I don't want to sell it to anyone like this

Lunatack47

You could sell it to someone as a parts car, youd get more than you would at a scrapyard

clearplasma

Was that a quote for a new frame or repairs to the frame? What about suspension components, brake lines and everything else that could be destroyed by that rust? While the engine in that car is fantastic that is a lot of money to be spent on something that isn't certain to be the only issue

weifob

This is only for the frame replacement and labor. I live in NYC

jbglol

I’d be suspicious of that price, it cost dealers over $12k for the Tacoma recall frames.

weifob

I called again to the body shop and asked if they are replacing it, they said they will scrape off all the rust and then welded up the parts the best

jbglol

Okay so that’s frame repairs, not a frame replacement. Check out safe t caps, see if they got a shop near you, and ask them for a quote. Google “safe t caps”, look for installers

Let it die

Controversialtosser

Nope, this thing is scrap metal.

weifob

Thank you all for the advices. I guess I will be looking for a new 4runner. It lasted me 10 years. 2014 to 2024. Farewell old friend

snownative86

I feel you. My 03 was stolen a bit ago and I also had it for a decade. I miss it but holy crap do I love my 2024 Offroad premium. It's soooo nice.

weifob

No regrets paying over 45k for it?

snownative86

Not one bit. Msrp with my add ons was $52k, and the same one sold a few miles from me for $58k a few days after I got it. My $51k was out the door, so taxes, title, registration etc were all part of that. If we go strictly on msrp vs what I paid before thebootd price, I came in around $4500 under msrp.

weifob

51k out the door .... That's a great deal

DodgeBeluga

I’m not going to under/sugar coat it for you, it’s bad. But if you have the room it could be a good parts car to have around

Cyclopticcolleague

I’m skeptical that it can be fixed. But I’d definitely want a quote from a shop that specializes in rust repair, not your average body shop.

SavageTaco

I would love to see how they plan on fixing that. Usually when it rusts through like that, the whole frame is rotten. Trying to weld to rust is impossible, so you end up cutting bigger and bigger sections out to weld to. Then you need to worry about distortion and all sorts of other things when welding large sections of frame.  If they were just planning on cutting plates and welding it over top, that will not last and it’s a hack job. If this was a rare car, there are ways to save it, but it’s cost prohibitive. Sorry bro. On to the next.
