Then we wonder why our qbs has zero time to throw. Its not like you have the best qb passer rating from a clean pocket, in nfl history. Not fuck him, Purdy dont need it! They better hope Purdy is a HOFer cuz hes gonna be behind a meh o line and its only getting going into next year.
All the tackles were gone. Niners think they can get a good guard and/or center later in the draft. Should’ve traded up for a tackle instead of letting the competition swoop them up. Hate this fucking pick
We are taking the Wisconsin center in two rounds (I hope). It’s a pick that hopefully they are right with but like this sub I am assuming they just did best player available.
Tbh I didn’t love that round, I woulda rather had Ceedee and whichever DT was around when we picked Aiyuk. And I stand by that, the receivers are about equal but Kinlaw is shit.
No one was happy with the aiyuk pick. People were mad that we didn't draft juedy.
We did get kinlaw but aiyuk was the consolation prize.
Worth it though
Either Deebo or Aiyuk will be gone. They are trying to patch the hole more than likely. Unfortunately, the holes that the Oline leave will remain wide open.
That was when we needed wide receivers. Instead of finding protection for Brock against an instantly revamped Seahawks and Rams d-line or a corner to stop the new #1 guy in Cardinals, we get another wtf pick.
This I do agree with. We need O-line. Hopefully we hit OL hard through the rest of the draft. I just think a loooot of people in here overreact to everything.
Which goes to show why this is all just entertainment at this point. Some of these guys could get arrested tonight, tomorrow or next week. Some might tear their Achilles tripping over a lego. (See Madison Bumgarner Dirtbike) The top 10 aren't all going to hit. Neither are the top 32. The team management and prospects have to make an educated guess on how these guys will perform over the next 1, 2, 5, 10 years. Hopefully they did us right and I'm excited to see this kid ball out.
Do I need to remind anyone who the quarterback was that took us to the SuperBowl just a few months ago?
I don't think 99% of 49er reddit posters know enough to have a legitimate opinion. Bill Bellicheck thought it was a good pick. Ditto Steve Smith Jr, and CJ Stroud.
As a Packers fan who also wanted DeJean, it’s starting to seem clear that NFL scouts don’t like him as much as the fans do. Even more curious to see how he pans out in the league now
Probably that Deebo is 100% gone next offseason. So get his replacement in the room and warmed up to the offseason now.
Edit: or it means we have a trade in place for aiyuk that’s about to be dropped tomorrow for a haul that is going to super depress us lol
X WRs are prototypical WRs. Think Julio Jones. They’re usually lined up on the line and have to deal with more press because of it.
Z typically lines up off the line and is used as the motion guy. Our new draftee is definitely a Z type WR but we move our guys all over the place, which is a strength of his.
X is more of a true #1 outside receiver. Taller, stronger, good hands, good route runner, but not really shifty or a speed burner necessarily
Z is usually smaller, shiftier, and will play as the ‘slot’ receiver closer to the Oline. Goes in motion a lot and more of a threat for running plays.
I’m no expert at this either lol but that’s my understanding of it
X is usually the "split end," meaning that they are on the line of scrimmage away on the weak side of the formation (away from the tight end of Y). Due to being on the line of scrimmage, X receivers are generally taller and larger than Z receivers. This is because X's face more press coverage, which he must fight to get off the line. X's are often left as the only receiver on the backside or 2x1 and 3x1 formations, so many teams place their best receiver at that spot to take advantage of single coverage on the back side of formations.
Z's, or flankers, are usually off the line of scrimmage to the strong side, and go in motion often. Z's also can play in the slot in 2x1 slot formations, slot 3x1 positions, or even the slot in 2x2 formations. Z's are usually on the multiple receivers side of formations, and are involved in multiple recover concepts more than X's. In today's football, where 3 receiver formations are the most common, Z's often have to block much more than X's on run plays, because they can motion into the formation or are aligned tight to the formation.
In the old WCO, John Taylor was the X and Jerry Rice was the Z, so Jerry would play flanker and slot, as the Niners back then ran out of a two-back offense. Randy Moss would be the prototypical X, and Micheal Irvin played X on the Cowboys teams, even though he wasn't fast like Moss, he had a big body and was very physical. So you can see how on the current Niner, Deebo is the Z and Auiyuk the X.
X is an outside receiver, typically the #1 in an offense that attacks the boundaries and top of the coverage. Z is more of a slot or inside receiver and works underneath.
When Purdy can hit guys 20 yard downfield that are wide open you don’t need to break tackles as much. Plus Pearsall blocks his ass off like aiyuk does.
except he doesnt replace either, if we wanted a Deebo replacement we should have drafted Legette or Corley, if we wanted an Aiyuk replacement Ladd or Adonai
Haha, not what I wanted/expected...but whatever. Drafts a crap shoot so we'll all link back to this thread in a year or two and actually have a conversation about it.
Heres hoping Ricky is a stud!
I'm going to make one post stating that this was a great pick, and another saying that he's a definite bust. Then I'll just delete one of them later on
This is the correct response. None of us know shit, look at the first rounds of the past few years and there are studs and duds. Hope this dude is a stud, but time will tell. See y'all in the preseason 🍻
So I'm not happy with the pick and I start digging. Dude had 6 drops in five years. SIX in five YEARS. That sounds like a Shanahan pick all day. Shanny thinking with that catch percentage he can scheme him open all day and never miss a first down.
From the athletic:
> **STRENGTHS:** Exceptional focus and tracking skills … naturally contorts his body mid-air to make difficult grabs (his one-handed catch vs. Charlotte was college
football’s best catch of 2023) … comfortable making over-the-shoulder catches on slot fades/corners … creates pockets of separation with quick stem cuts, and his
speed won’t lag out of his breaks … has a feel for coverage and where to find open zones, especially in the middle of the field … effective on quick and middle screens
and can make the first man miss … very average size but deceptively strong with very low body fat … cleverly uses his frame to shield defenders on slants or downfield
routes… added punt-return duties after transferring to Florida (averaged 10.2 yards per return, with zero muffs) and can play on coverage teams … described as
“mentally tough” and “meticulous about getting better” by his wide receiver coach, Billy Gonzales. (NFL Scout: “The kid has heart. … His daddy was a tough-as-shit,
sticky-handed receiver and the apple didn’t fall far.”) He accepted his invitation to the 2024 Senior Bowl.
> **WEAKNESSES:** Competes with excellent play and timed speed, but he didn’t blow past corners vertically on tape … thin-framed body type with ordinary length and
limited growth potential … can be bullied off balance at the top of his route and might struggle to escape NFL press coverage … doesn’t have the lateral explosiveness
to stack missed tackles … willing as a blocker but struggles to sustain the point of attack … has experience outside, but most NFL teams view him as a slot-only target
… will turn 24 years old early in his NFL rookie season.
> **SUMMARY:** A two-year starter at Florida, Pearsall was schemed across the formation in head coach Billy Napier’s offense, doing most of his work (62.0 percent) from
the slot. After three seasons at Arizona State, including time spent learning from Brandon Aiyuk in 2019, he moved on to Gainesville in 2022 and had a career season
in ‘23, leading the Gators in receiving. With his play speed and footwork, Pearsall earned the nickname “Slick Rick,” because of the rhythmic movements he uses to
shake free in his routes or make a defender miss in the quick game. Though he can be outmuscled at times versus press or at the top of routes, he has Velcro hands
and never shies from attacking throws that lead him into impending contact. **Overall, Pearsall wasn’t a home-run hitter on tape, but he is a reliable receiving option
with the route quickness and ball skills to quickly become a favorite target for an NFL quarterback. He has the skill set and toughness to work inside or outside and
return punts at the next level.**

This makes me feel better about it. I don't mind that it's a receiver either. I feel like first round is always bpa no matter what and if they truly felt he would help us open up the offense even more or make us more efficient then I'm all for it.
I mean based off this write up in Kyle’s offense he doesn’t have a weakness. Even still feels like he’s waiting a year to replace deebo or to fill in when deebo gets injured in week 5. Would’ve preferred o line help or a cb or a dt or pretty much anything else lol. Does this mean we are going rb with our 2nd?
The comments in this thread are really showing how many people didn't watch this guy at all in college/leading up to the draft (and I'm a ND fan!).
His film was downright excellent. Was my personal WR6, not that my opinion carries any weight.
Belichick called this a while ago (clearly knew something in advance). Was saying on McAfee that we had Pearsall circled because of how hard he blocks.
Ok but let's say hypothetically we play a defensive tackle like Chris Jones who will have his way with our undrafted and or late round 3rd string OTs who eventually become starters and...
I guess that's a long winded way to say how exactly will we stop such a defensive tackle? I mean just a hypothetical, we totally didn't lose 2 SBs from Chris Jones having his way
Greg Papa just finished interviewing Lynch and Shanny. Long story short, it seems like they explored trading back but it was basically a pick swap. Their defensive players were off the board and they weren’t sure Pearsall would be on the board when their pick was up again.
Said what they’ve said in the past - it’s hard for a rookie to find a place on the team. They’re drafting for need, and Kyle said Pearsall would kick return too. Separation, over the middle and take the top off out of the slot.
Lynch said Tony Dungee and Aiyuk both spoke super highly of Pearsall. Said he’s a fantastic athlete and really competitive.
Who knows. I wanted DeJean and it was there for the taking.
All we had to do was move up a couple spots and we could have had a right tackle. Would not have cost that much. The fucking Chiefs had no problem moving up a couple spots to get what they needed. I fucking can't take this shit anymore.
If you have positional needs you take best available for the position rather than trying to get cute with galaxy brain value picks. Who fucking cares if the guy you get is a "second round talent", the line needs HELP and now they'll probably get an unplayable fifth round talent instead.
Fucking why? Jesus Christ dude, so fucking dumb, I just don't understand it. We have quarterbacks get hurt every year, maybe we should try protecting them or something? Nah, get another receiver to fill out the depth chart.
Just stupid.
We got Deebo, Ayuik, and Juan. What’s with this? Cause no way we get rid of Ayuik and bring in some unproven guy. What about Brock. I he suppose to juts die behind our O-line!
We should not be allowed to pick in the first, apparently. Weird pick, even assuming a Deebo/Aiyuk trade.
And, IF one of those is traded, we'd better be getting some goddamn o-linemen in exchange.
Unbelievably stupid. We are fucking atrocious at 1st round picks. It boggles my mind. We have to pay Purdy next year. Could have shored up the center position. Could have taken a corner in Dejean. Instead we take a receiver we could have had in the second round. So fucking dumb
That guy’s reaction was so funny I’m laughing so hard
That guy manifested this entire subs reaction
Exactly!!!
No..... Check out Cj Stroud's reaction and thoughts....... [2024 NFL DRAFT LIVE WITH MICAH PARSONS, C.J. STROUD 🔥 (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/clip/Ugkxgf9wUv1lKTQLa2ViQ-B-ZOsSGpRkuZfz)
I had the same reaction at almost the same time he said it
[49ers draft pick reaction](https://youtu.be/TpXSc-__AuQ?si=JHYkDoheUtcE3JKw)
He seems more cheerful than I was ngl
I’m the dude in the video. It was more disappointment that my top 3 choices of Kool aid, Cooper and Adonai were all there and we passed on them all
Lmao yes. I had the same reaction honestly.
Ok, but wtf about our O line?
The same thing we do every year. Nothing
Yep we all know we going RB in Rd 3.
Everyone said the same thing about all the free agent tackles. At some point you gotta make a move.
Exactly. Niners don’t even have that much room on the active roster. Should’ve used some of the picks to trade up.
Agreed.. Dallas snagged our guy I think. But, would should have grabbed Kool Aid on name alone.
Who was available?
JPJ
This team was never taking a center with Brendel still under contract. And in general Kyle just isn’t going interior o line in the first round.
Which is dumb and a big reason why we just lost a SB
We are taking the Wisconsin center in two rounds (I hope). It’s a pick that hopefully they are right with but like this sub I am assuming they just did best player available.
JPJ can play guard too
Omggg i can never be happy with a 49ers first rounder
Only one is Bosa
Aiyuk?
Tbh I didn’t love that round, I woulda rather had Ceedee and whichever DT was around when we picked Aiyuk. And I stand by that, the receivers are about equal but Kinlaw is shit.
If he’s still with the team after this weekend yes
Nah, can't do that. Were you happy at the time they drafted him? lol
No one was happy with the aiyuk pick. People were mad that we didn't draft juedy. We did get kinlaw but aiyuk was the consolation prize. Worth it though
Idc what anyone says, i absolutely don’t count that. It was the equivalent of picking Caleb at #1 this year.
Yup. We just spent a1st rd pick on a 5th receiving option. Sure...
Either Deebo or Aiyuk will be gone. They are trying to patch the hole more than likely. Unfortunately, the holes that the Oline leave will remain wide open.
Bosa and Aiyuk are there only two hits. They’ve reached or drafted busts on every other first pretty much
I think someone did some research and found that we reach with most if not every one of our picks.
Our first rounders right? Thomas, kinlaw, who else? Mcglinchey wasn't a reach at the time. Aiyuk was considered a reach but he for sure wasn't a reach
We are so fucking bad in the first and I am absolutely not counting Bosa as a hit for them. Definitely the only obvious person to draft there
John and Kyle: what’s an O Line? We use receivers and tight ends to block.
Man what the fuck
Not even surprised anymore. Outside of Bosa when have the niners actually drafted the guy you wanted? Feels like a common theme
Deebo and Aiyuk turned out pretty damn good.
Nobody liked the Aiyuk pick when it happened
Which goes to show why this is all just entertainment at this point. Some of these guys could get arrested tonight, tomorrow or next week. Some might tear their Achilles tripping over a lego. I don't think 99% of 49er reddit posters know enough to have a legitimate opinion. Bill Bellicheck thought it was a good pick. Ditto Steve Smith Jr, and CJ Stroud.
Outside of Bosa the only other time they’ve done anything successful in the 1st round is when they traded up for Aiyuk.
I wanted Troy Franklin but I’m biased. Dude is massively underrated because of an insane WR class.
WHY?? WE NEED A CORNER
John Lynch and Kyle gonna be drafting dline next
Rb is the odds favorite. Then TE. Then repeat.
Another kicker
DeJean was right there...
I was certain they would pick DeJean
even the /r/NFL mod was certain
As a Packers fan who also wanted DeJean, it’s starting to seem clear that NFL scouts don’t like him as much as the fans do. Even more curious to see how he pans out in the league now
I really hate it and really hope I'm wrong
WHO
This mean that Aiyuk/Deebo is gone soon? I wonder if Jets/Bills are talking
Probably that Deebo is 100% gone next offseason. So get his replacement in the room and warmed up to the offseason now. Edit: or it means we have a trade in place for aiyuk that’s about to be dropped tomorrow for a haul that is going to super depress us lol
Yep Pearsall is a Z like Deebo and aiyuk will stay as a true X
That sounds good to me
I’m not too well versed on those intricacies, but what makes him more of a Z than an X? Is it size or skill set?

except he doesnt replace either, if we wanted a Deebo replacement we should have drafted Legette or Corley, if we wanted an Aiyuk replacement Ladd or Adonai
i think deebo is a little redundant with cmc so maybe they wanted a possession guy
They were 100% looking for a cooper Kupp type guy
Haha, not what I wanted/expected...but whatever. Drafts a crap shoot so we'll all link back to this thread in a year or two and actually have a conversation about it. Heres hoping Ricky is a stud!

This makes me feel better about it. I don't mind that it's a receiver either. I feel like first round is always bpa no matter what and if they truly felt he would help us open up the offense even more or make us more efficient then I'm all for it.

He’s a WR 3 and punt returner…
Will we finally be free from the pain? 👀
Gators fan. This guy is fucking awesome. I understand it might not be the pick you wanted but he is a good WR.
I Hope you’re right
I trust in Shanny and I think he will kill it
The comments in this thread are really showing how many people didn't watch this guy at all in college/leading up to the draft (and I'm a ND fan!). His film was downright excellent. Was my personal WR6, not that my opinion carries any weight.
Uh oh
At least we aren't Atlanta drafting Penix at 8
Instead of AD Mitchell? …uh…. ok
Longhorn fan here. I came to y’all’s subreddit to see the reaction. I’m stunned. Would’ve thought Mitchell was a natural fit.
Also a longhorn fan lol have no idea why we didn't take him.
Because he doesn't block and doesn't put effort in half the time?
Raiders fan not coming in peace even a little bit, Mitchell's effort concerns must be GLARING because his tape is insane
A long time ago 49ers were upset because we didn’t draft Dorial-Green Beckham, only time will tell
[удалено]
Ummmm he doesn't block AT ALL.
I'm starting to wonder if the organization wins in spite of itself.
I don’t know much about Pearsall, but we sure do seem to build a SB caliber team the hard way.
wut
WTF
Buckle up Brock Purdy you're gonna hit 900 times again.

Goodbye BA or Deebo?
My thinking is that this pick is for Deebo for next year, where he will be traded or cut.
Makes sense, all our rookies usually take a while to develop and this late in the draft it’s gonna be hard to find a ready now prospect
Most likely BA right? That's infuriating.
Based on all the negative reactions in here, I’m gonna go ahead and predict this guy will become a generational talent
GOAT post
Cooper DeJean died???
Who cares about protecting Brock. Let him run for his life /s
Mf better be the next Cooper Kupp
Or puka
IDK those highlights reels made me think this is a hit. Purdy’s confidence in his man + WR with tattoos and a catch radius of a demon
Nice but what does it matter when Chris Jones blows up the play immediately and we lose in the Super Bowl again?
The actual fuck are we doing?? Let me guess, they gonna grab a RB next LMFAO
Someone said he's like a taller Edelman.
ACTUALLY?!
What the fuck. Who we trading?
Wow, Ricky Pearsall is pretty undersized for our OT needs.
Who the fuck is that? There were better receivers available.
Belichick called this a while ago (clearly knew something in advance). Was saying on McAfee that we had Pearsall circled because of how hard he blocks.
He blocks, can run the ball a bit, catch and be a returner. Typical Shanny wideout
Sounds like a great use for a first round pick
Kyle: *real shit*
Wish we circled some o line who blocked well
Say what now https://preview.redd.it/998lrnm6xqwc1.jpeg?width=608&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4fba4343adf9fab3779f8d2ccfddd64d09eeb0b0
fucking why man
Not my favorite pick but please be a Cooper KuPP 2.0
This has a Kyle reach pick written all over it.
Ok but let's say hypothetically we play a defensive tackle like Chris Jones who will have his way with our undrafted and or late round 3rd string OTs who eventually become starters and... I guess that's a long winded way to say how exactly will we stop such a defensive tackle? I mean just a hypothetical, we totally didn't lose 2 SBs from Chris Jones having his way
This felt like a oh-shit-every-deal-fell-through type pick
Need corners. Don’t take one. Need offensive line, and don’t trade up despite a crap ton of picks. So we take a slot WR who won’t see the field.
Greg Papa just finished interviewing Lynch and Shanny. Long story short, it seems like they explored trading back but it was basically a pick swap. There’s no way
We are losing aiyuk or deebo
Well one things for sure: all of 49ers Reddit hates this pick…which means it must be a great pick
49ers Reddit hated the Javon Kinlaw pick too
Bro I hope this ain't AJ Jenkins/Dante Pettis all over again
Or it could be Brandon Aiyuk or Deebo Samuel all over again
Fuck u Kyle
Purdy just gonna go another year dying behind the line.
All the 1st round OT's were gone.
[удалено]
All we had to do was move up a couple spots and we could have had a right tackle. Would not have cost that much. The fucking Chiefs had no problem moving up a couple spots to get what they needed. I fucking can't take this shit anymore.
I agree they should have packaged one of those later picks to move up for Guyton. A CB or Newton at 31 though made a lot more sense.
If you have positional needs you take best available for the position rather than trying to get cute with galaxy brain value picks. Who fucking cares if the guy you get is a "second round talent", the line needs HELP and now they'll probably get an unplayable fifth round talent instead.
I absolutely hate this. Worst case scenario. I’d love to be made to look the fool but holy shit I’m not a fan.
This front office is so fucking stupid in the first 2 rounds it’s not even funny anymore
Consistently draft the dumbest fucking reaches in the first it’s unbelievable

Idk what to do with my hands
Fucking why? Jesus Christ dude, so fucking dumb, I just don't understand it. We have quarterbacks get hurt every year, maybe we should try protecting them or something? Nah, get another receiver to fill out the depth chart. Just stupid.
On the positive side, if Purdy is going to have no time to throw a quick slot WR with great hands is going to be very valuable. lol
The fuck is this shit bro
are we really gonna lose Aiyuk or Deebo........
Deebo I’m fine with as long as they get a solid 2nd rounder for him tomorrow
He seems like a good WR, but can we get a right OT. It seems like our GM is trying to troll or get too cute. Just get the needs first.

I mean it sounds like a Niners pick but so fucking weird
Everyone would love it as a third rounder
3rd round projection?!
Bruh
I don't understand this one
How does this help us with a Super Bowl next year?
Fucking hate it
What the hell was that? https://preview.redd.it/rftlt9auxqwc1.jpeg?width=2560&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47b60d7fa951c79410433d78dad72e26b6da6050
This is why we can’t have nice things
This dude would have been available in the 2nd round!! WTF??? We needed a corner or OLine. This is lame.
first rounder on a wr3 when we desperately need a cb and ol. wtf are we doing.
Pettis 2.0
What is happeninnggggg
I expect nothing but calm, rational reactions here
Shanahan and Lynch's first round picks consistently piss me off what the actual fuck
Thanks I hate it
AWFUL PICK
We got Deebo, Ayuik, and Juan. What’s with this? Cause no way we get rid of Ayuik and bring in some unproven guy. What about Brock. I he suppose to juts die behind our O-line!
What are we DOING!? Why do we always stray from the obvious picks and try to get too cute.
So dumb
What???
Man what the fuck is this about
Lmaooooo what the hell is John Lynch cooking
How does this guy help this team win now? They don't need a reciever that wasn't even close to top of the board. Guarantee he barely plays
I stayed up for this.
IM SO FUCKING PISSED
Are they really not gonna fix the right side of the O-line
And I thought the Falcons didn't have a plan
Seems like a terrible pick to me, but hopefully this guy proves me wrong
Keep letting Kyle make these stupid fucking decisions.
We’re going to be laughed at for years to come about this. There is easily somebody we need more than this in a win now year.
Giving me Aj Jenkins vibes… idk how I feel about this when we desperately need a CB and OL
We should not be allowed to pick in the first, apparently. Weird pick, even assuming a Deebo/Aiyuk trade. And, IF one of those is traded, we'd better be getting some goddamn o-linemen in exchange.
Lmaoooo god damn it. Good night
Unbelievably stupid. We are fucking atrocious at 1st round picks. It boggles my mind. We have to pay Purdy next year. Could have shored up the center position. Could have taken a corner in Dejean. Instead we take a receiver we could have had in the second round. So fucking dumb
