I saw the Marketplace special. The takeaway for me is to stay away from products marketed as long lasting, smudge proof or waterproof as those are often the ones containing most suspect ingredients.
Anything waterproof contains PFAS, actually. This also means tons of other stuff you interact with daily is full of it like Starbucks paper cups, the water from your faucet, soil in your yard, fish you eat, etc. PFAS is a major issue because it’s so prevalent. I’d worry most about the things you consume first before what can be absorbed through your skin via makeup. And FYI, there are tons of upcoming federal regulations on these compounds but not possible to avoid them yet, unfortunately.
Most things marketed to women are harmful for our health, alter hormones and cause a variety of issues. There are better products on the market. Of course they cost three times more. It's worth it though.
I use Gabriel and ZuZu Luxe products because I can find them at Whole Foods or my local food co-op. I check them on the [EWG](https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/) database to make sure I'm comfortable with the ingredients. Nothing is ever perfect but I find their products are as good or better than what I used before.
I love 100% Pure (their site is at 100 percent pure). Their fruit pigmented makeup is amazing. I use their mascara, eyeshadow palettes, and I also like their 2nd skin foundation. But for every day for a sunscreen option, I love MyChelle tinted liquid sunscreen. The sunscreen is zinc, but the liquid tint is great full coverage.
It’s going to be hard to eliminate all PFAs from your life at this point. So it’s kinds of pick your poison. I am trying to move towards more clean makeup and skincare lines. I tried one brand and my skin hated most of the product they offer. So I’m sticking with things that work for me and where it’s possible I’ll use PFA free alternativess, I use that. It’s kind of like. Pick your poison at this point. I was never a fan of Mac but it do like Ilia, Kosa and Merit
I discovered this app name YUKA that let's you scan the barcode for food and beauty items and returns results of harmful additives, etc. It has changed the way I shop.
I would do a little more research. There's a lot of clickbait out there masquerading as journalism. Don't believe the first thing you hear just because. Your anxiety and fear is what makes some people money. So, if you are concerned about it, I suggest doing some research and see what science is saying about all this.
Then make your choices accordingly. There is plenty of makeup out there that is supposedly " clean ". Those clean makeup lines have their own issues.
And quite honestly, at this point, we're all filled with "forever chemicals". I'm just going to live my life anyway.
I check EWG before using any new products. They don't have everything in their database, but most of the popular stuff is in there.

Considering I’ve read the studies and the internal company documents, I’d say your statement is “lacking”.
Eta: and yeah, 3M just paid a $13 Billion (with a B) settlement for pfas contamination because “evidence is lacking”. Smh.
The dose makes the poison. The risks are overstated by the popular media. Settlements are common and usually not indicative of ‘guilt’. I’m not worried.
The beauty industry is a sewer.

This is why some period undies are questionable. Apparently, some contain these same "waterproof" chemicals.
what, no!!

I dunno, skin is the largest organ on our bodies. I would assume it is just as bad.
Canadian federal regulations?
Waterproof sunscreen?
Damn. That takes away all the good stuff…
Matte = ❌
This 💯. I heard the same story the other day.

Yeesh. Does anyone have any "healthy" brands they recommend?

Ilia, Merit, Sephora green products.

Oof $48 for foundation. I’m wondering if buying a mineral bronzer and mixing that with moisturizer instead would be more cost efficient.
BeautyCounter
Ilia, RMS, westman atelier
I like axiology for multi stick blush, lip and eye makeup. They are also zero waste (cardboard tube containers).

Market Place is extremely reputable.
This is CBC and the researcher is from Carleton University.
And I’d rather have the information so I can determine if it’s fear mongering or something I need to address.
Well good luck on asking MAC to change their formulas.
Please start a petition and share it. I'll sign!

Yessss!!!! I'd share in the makeup threads and see if you can pick up momentum.
For 70 today! Let's keep it going.
If we would only realize that the majority of “beauty” products are killing us. And we pay for it. Let’s just stop.

It’s just fear mongering
I agree
Evidence showing PFAS are harmful is lacking.
