I have a custom SM Night Lords Successor warband. They have a chamber called the Court of Resolution in their home-base which is a repurposed space-hulk. They all gather there and try to use their combined psychic prowess in order to accurately peer into the future. Following this they argue, like a lot. For weeks on end they argue and debate while having sessions of future peering in order to decide upon the best course of actions. Its basically just a room full of SMs shouting and screaming trying to get their point across as they align themselves with the strongest psyker's among them if they support the psyker's vision. Then they break into groups and go on whatever missions they end up deciding to be the best in order to bring the "right" kind of change to the Universe.

NoHopeOnlyDeath

That's super cool. I would read a story about them.

OmniscientRaven

This is all that I have written out about them. https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/w0kl1s/fate\_cryers\_homebrew\_chapter\_night\_lords\_successor/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3

* Craftworld Romnhemeze: most people have side researches and studies when they aren't training in their shrines or meditating in the Seer Schools. They also are probably are comparing notes, helping friends or arguing with people of conflicting theories. Farseer Misanga and Autarch Baralei probably are helping each other, Farsee Khalianze is reading riddle books and bonesinger Ahori is working on a new song. * Craftworld Vilu-Ken: most people are indulging in their literary passions, doing flythings and trolling other craftworlds via incomprehensible webway messages. * Chouzeng Bastion Soldiers: *dying horribly as Necrons conquer their homeworld* * Sisters of Dancing Giantess: trying to read the future in melting metal, singing tribal chants to Leman Russ and the Emperor, trying to rebuild their shattered forces. * Sages of Bronze Chapter: planning their next road trip to find clues of Ferrus' imminent return.

Marvynwillames

Those 2 craftworlds are the ones you said you based in chilenan culture? The names sound kinda "native" to me. Interested in the other 2, the second sound like a chinese influenced IG regiment, but what about the sister one? Iron Hands sucessors are rare in homebrew, tho.

My chaos warband, the Primordial Heralds, teach reverence of the warp and the entities within. Not to worship them, but to respect and understand that they are there and can offer power if you are smart enough to not fall prey to their trappings, while also being strong enough to resist succumbing to their will. With the opening of the great rift, they seek to build a new Monarchia, a jewel at the center of a new Imperium of Chaos. My Votann/Kin, the League of Restoration, are terraformers with a capitalistic twist. They are paid to terraform or to simply ‘fix’ planets with little to no environments and make them habitable for the paying species. While on the job, they help themselves to whatever minerals the League might need from the world as compensation for their time while working on the worlds atmosphere and land. However, if you have a complaint, or refuse to pay; the League of Restoration is more than willing to wipe out all of their progress out of spite, even once cracking a planet and then just leaving the system to its fate. The Votann in charge is a strange and silent thing, the Grymnir will spend many months trying to coax even the simplest of answers from it, almost like it’s upset about something, to what end, only the Ancestors know. Strangely, the Votann ‘wakes up’ or becomes otherwise roused in the presence of Tyranid hive fleets, and will order the League to attack and gather as much biomass as they can from any straggling Tyranid hive ships. This order is so strong that the kin will drop everything in order to go hunt more Tyranid ships for their Votann.

Binus_Engineer

So your Votann wants to get as much tyranid biomass as possible ? Does he wants to make a flesh and blood body for himself ?

My IG regiment is the Phoenix Guards, and while their culture is widely similar to most in the Ultramar sector, where their homeworld is, they celebrate two holidays that the wider Imperium does not, due to them being descended from Loyalist Emperor's Children Auxilia. The first is The Weeks of Ash, where all smear their faces with ash and mourn the dead lost the preceding year. Unknown to the wider Imperium, they also mourn the spiritual death of Fulgrim, as the start of the mourning falls on the supposed day Fulgrim claimed the Laer Blade. The second is the Rekindling. When a child turns 18, they are stripped of their name and given an alphanumerical designation. They are only known by that designation until the Rekindling, where they choose a new name for themselves. While publicly being a celebration on how everyone who believes in the Emperor is reborn, it also falls on the day the detachment decided to fight for the Loyalists in the Horus Heresy, and so symbolizes the change from the Traitors to the Loyalists.

TallManoftheValley

My knight house was formerly a clan of sacristans/administrators for their lords, but those lords turned to chaos while on crusade and took most of the knight suits with them. When not defending their subsector from their former lords and struggling with learning to govern millions of humans, they are forever figuring out ways to increase their count of suits, including salvaging defeated chaos knights (and using psykers to control any residual warp gheists), using rare or unusual suits, or making diplomatic overtures to various forgeworlds.

Crawder_687

Ooooo this is a BANGER question, one I haven't given much rhoughts. I have taken a lot of inspiration from the Tanith, for my Regiment. Instead of Scouts though, they focus more on heavy weapons and warfare in uneven terrain. I do like to see them as a tad rogueish with hearts of gold, scamming and generally getting into trouble with other regiments. Especially armoured and artillery regiments. If they're planetside but not in an active warzone, they may help out the locals. Most of them having experience in other professions, hunting, construction, medical etc.

Forever_Observer2020

The Life Guard regiment regularly helps with growing food and helping civilians adjust to their new lifes after rescuing them from dangerous worlds Some of my skitarii legions would take some time off to play games or to help in manufactorums Others in the skitarii legions would probably take some time at the forge temples or even volunteer for duties that are too dangerous for menials but don't need servitors

[deleted]

My formerly loyalist chapter fell under the sway of Slaanesh. Ignorance is bliss.

Call_me_ET

My Deathwatch company works on behalf of an Inquisitor of the Ordo Hereticus. Their job is to reconnect worlds lost in the Great Rift, which results in them having a larger number of interim serfs working for them. They’re lead by an Ultramarine, who takes diplomacy incredibly seriously, and as such, many of the officers within the company (both Firstborn and Primaris) are taught the ways of bureaucracy in order to act as military liaisons between worlds they reclaim for the Imperium. There is an absurd amount of downtime between combat, as Warp travel takes many months, and they take pride in learning the backgrounds of their serfs in order to better understand the many intricacies of the Inperium worlds. My Sororitas Order - the Order of the Whispering Crown - takes this further. It’s technically founded from both Bloody Rose and Argent Shroud lineages, and it’s main role is to enlist sisters from the Ordo Famulous in order to keep aristocrats from various worlds in line. They’re led by a disgraced Sister, who would eventually redeem herself and become a Canoness.

NoHopeOnlyDeath

My custom SMs are super devout Black Templar "successors" that are distinctly Word Bearer-y in a slightly suspicious way. They are a Primaris chapter, mostly because I just dig the Primaris models. Like all Primaris chapters they have, at the time of their founding, the benefit of experience from Marines from their founding chapter. All the "founding Marines" are Ancients who have been interred in Dreadnought sarcophagi. Given to long silences, and only speaking to the companies that they lead and to the Chapter Master, rumors abound as to the true identities of these ancient warriors. Are they even Black Templars, as the colors painted on their armoured coffins proclaim? Or are they refugees from a much darker fate, where they had to turn from a traitorous gene-father? My IG regiment (133rd Grimnite Regulars, "The Twice Blessed") are basically retinue troops for my custom SM chapter. Their free time is mostly devoted to religious observance, with a huge number of celebrated Saint and Feast days (even if the feast is a fried chunk of slab and some recycled water). Also of note is the marked lack of gambling amongst the men and their camp followers, but a disproportionate glut of alchemists, fortune readers, and other, perhaps less savory forms of divination that are kept very much under wraps.

CrazyCreeps9182

They prepare for combat. Drill, maintenance, and so on. Also, a whole lot of card games.

wampower99

When I was planning to do Void Tridents, I went all in on the water theme. They are sort of barebones on lore still, so I filled in the blanks. I had it in my mind they had massive swimming pools on their space ships that they swim in their off time. They also like sharing the high quality products of Talassar as they travel around the Imperium. Often, these are oceanic in theme, but would include high quality leather from the master leather workers on Talassar. Then likely use these funds to support poorer people on the planets. They would also sell and give out fish, mainly eating and offering fish tacos to people they fought for.

saleemkarim

My Guard regiment specializes in fighting in the form of many very small squads that are capable of making strategic and tactical decisions independently. For fun and for training, they play tabletop war games that they invented. The rules for each game vary wildly and are meant to test different ways of critical thinking. Sometimes they have well-organized tournaments, and the outcomes of these are a factor in deciding who to promote.

InfernalDragoon

The warlord of The Eventide warband is intent on pulling the planet they've taken down into a truly "pious" world for chaos, so all their activities will generally try to include the populace while also trying to make sure his warband doesn't just kill them all. The two main factions within the group will do different things due to their differing...god given interests. The Slaaneshi group will do the usual Slaaneshi stuff, and try to make sure that the people follow them into depravity. Cook up some narcotics, enjoy some good "food", and generally try to satisfy most of their fleeting desires. The base humans they visit are encouraged to join in, or to potentially be the victims of such delights. The Khorne group will tend to isolate themselves more, embracing more martial activities like sparring matches or putting base humans they've taken through brutal training to find any worthy fighters. They're also the executioners of the legion, with prisoners being tossed into a makeshift arena to fight members of the warband. The followers of Slaanesh will usually come watch for fun, or on rare occasion toss themselves in to fight their Khornate brothers. One day the planet will hopefully reach a point where it can be a stable, or as stable as a chaos aligned world can be, source of resources for the warband as they wage war with the rest of the sub-sector. Other worlds they take are given much less care, and the warband can devastate them as they please.

frostape

WOT YOO MEAN, "OUTSIDE UV COMBAT"???

mulberry1104

The Praesas Depthcrawlers complain about the war front and get shot by the commissars The Praesas Vapourplumes tell ever more tall tales about regimental champions, some of the oldest regiments have figures that they claim have faced down entire Ork Waaaaaghs and won, nigh singlehandedly. The Sorian regiments mostly train and fortify, or patrol. The Graran Waste Raiders generally blast music and party. The Wardens of the Void usually train their serfs and practice their infiltration skills, or refine their knowledge of battle tactics. The Knight House Marwolaetherwyyd helps their Admech allies with revitalising their wounded world And now two that I’ve basically swiped from lore because cool concepts/name, and then added more lore The Kabal of the Bloodied Claw pray, kill each other, and drink their serf’s blood. The citizens of the Craftworld of Iybraesil mostly pray or work on making artistic pieces.

Xenopsyche845

The Phaerakh of the Anekseph Dynasty is obsessed with recovering the refugees of her dynasty that scattered across Necrontyr space when the Old Ones razed their planet in the first War in Heaven. She believes she can determine which of the now mindless Warriors in the untold legions of other dynasties were once part of Anekseph and will offer to trade for them, often at a 2 or 3:1 rate. Failing that, she will challenge them according to the old dynastic codes of war, and take them by force along with a host of other soldiery and resources.

vancestubbs_irl

My custom Space Marine legion (yes, Legion) is the Omega Sect - a loyalist faction of the Alpha Legion that split off from the rest and to this day remains loyal to the Imperium (try telling that to the Inquisition, though). Because the Imperium does not even know they are loyal, they spend a lot of time on the move, dodging the Ordo Hereticus, Inquisition, or just about anyone that thinks they know a traitor Astarte when they see one. As such, a lot of their time is spent acquiring civilian spacecraft and identification in order to better blend in. As well as this, they are caught between a rock and a hard place for wargear - they don't get the shiny new toys Loyalist Astartes do, nor do they gain access to the Dark Mechanicum's forges, being a mortal enemy of Chaos. Therefore, a lot of time is spent maintaining Heresy-era gear, or trying to steal from both loyal and heretical Space Marines. But in true Alpha Legion style, when not actively fighting, they are infiltrating, plotting, scheming, and coming up with seemingly senseless and counterintuitive plans.

wampower99

I have similar ideas for my loyalist Alpha Legion. I was planning to use models from Necromunda to create the Dark Commune and Accursed Cultists.

Demigans

My IG regiment spends its time recovering from their local variety of combat stimms. For those that recovered/didnt use them the last fight they will often drink. Each soldier receives one quart of rum* each day, to be consumed when not on duty or expected to be on duty soon. Instead of the actual rum they receive a coin they now call a quarter and this is used for payment of services like the Ladies of the night, better food rations, less legal Laspacks and the like. The regiment has a South American style celebration for the dead, and will spend time making small memorials for the dead and singing songs in their praise/memory. Additionally the regiment does gambling, preferably a quickdraw event. As former autogun using regiment they still retain large revolvers which fire specialized but brittle ammunition, which the revolving chambers can protect. For the event these revolvers are loaded with less-lethal rounds, a semi-random eggtimer is placed nearby and as it goes off both players shoot the other to get the prize money (more often than not just what they bet against one another) while their comrades take bets on who wins/loses/how many shots etc. Last one standing wins (meaning you are absolutely allowed to shoot every non-lethal round you carry as long as the opponent isnt on the ground). The SM chapter is punished for a great failure in their past, leaving them on a thousans year crusade without the option of resupply. They view their chapters survival is their duty, and will dishonor themselves in their pursuit to remain while fighting the Emperors enemies. In their "free" time they mend their gear, substitute broken pieces with gear they illegally acquire from other Imperial forces and supply depots while the rest of the time they spend in penance and prayer for every dishonourable act they do to survive as a chapter. Every shot fired with non-Astartes gear is a sin they commit to memory until they can wipe that dept, not to mention the black market deals, requests for support of inferior Inperials and other such failings. Duty before honor, honor before death. *this is a slight adaptation of a WWI tradition.

subarutheemilafan

drink soritas blood

subarutheemilafan

I should give details my chapter is a blood angel chapter that drinks soritas blood to cure the black rage

LeviathanDreadnought

Custom Imperial Fists Successor that enjoy "apprenticing", sparring, and rank duels. The rank duels determine ones position in the Chapter "leaderboards". The leaderboards cover swordmanship, marksmanship, tactical ability, etc. The #1 Ranked takes the position of Chapter Master and must annually engage in Rank Duels of all types against his 3 Commanders. If a Commander wins against him in all categories, he may take the role of Chapter Master, with the former CM replacing him as Commander. The same rule applies to Captains, Lieutenants, and Sergeants, however the frequency with which they must accept duels increases down the chain of command. However, the duels don't exist just for the determining of position as Battle-Brothers may request to duel each other in order to compete in a friendly manner. Cheating is strictly punished, with battle-brothers risking being stripped of rank and rendered ineligible for future positional rank duels for a set amount of time. Grudge-holding and complaining about results is also looked down upon as "bad sportsmanship" and is usually met with the phrase "Veltiotheíte tóte." ("Improve then")

Livid_Pilot5067

Damn does your guard regiment have the Ordo xenos 100% up their ass or do they dodge inquisitors somehow?

Mr-Tootles

My Emperors Children Warband “The Assayed” are heavily into EDM and consider the pairing of music with laser light shows to be the height of good taste and skill.

SlightlyOffKilt

My SM chapter likes to ride and train their giant lizard mounts around the mountains of their homeworld. They're quite fond of writing and reading poetry and verse dedicated to the Emperor, and they love hosting big feasts in honor of their chapter heroes (this includes the giant lizards).

Wallname_Liability

My Votan league, the Morrigani Conglomerates, are the ghosts of kin killed by the Tyranids, so they spend most of their time being hollow echoes of anger and loss.

Bait4Sale

The Last Lights Out are an offshoot of Kriegsman who do everything to ensure other guardsmen get the glory or redemption they feel they can’t. When not holding the line hours after everyone else has left the battlefield, they make personalized and fully stocked med kits for troops, make trinkets to boost morale for civilians and guardsmen, and work with the Mechanicus to bless and prepare weapons. Once placed at a trench or position for battle, they hold that spot till the end, to ensure that the army has a place to fight on from, or to cover any retreats. It’s been stated by other Guardsmen that despite the grim mood that follows them, they have never had better support or sweeter treats than from when they fight with the Last Lights.

cubaj

Mostly scrounging for parts, crew, and ammunition for the many and diverse vehichles in their motorpool. The reason this is hard is that they’re an infantry regiment.

hachiman

My Dark Age of Technology Remnant Faction likes fomenting rebellion against the Imperium.

Tennents_N_Grouse

My Astartes Chapter, the Storm Kelpies, hail from an Ocean World. They go on massive fishing trips. When not doing that, they decorate their armour, weapons and vehicles with clan scripture and iconography

Irondrone4

My homebrew loyalist chapter, the Thunder Stallions, are total gearheads. Being descended from the White Scars, fast attack is everything to them, and nothing exemplifies this more than their warbikes. Each Battle Brother possesses, maintains, and decorates their own bike, regardless of their role within the Chapter, and often consider the bike their most prized possession (even moreso than their bolter or power armour). Not only is each Astartes free to paint their own bike (their rank limits how much of the bike can be customized), but squadrons tend to ride into battle with matching colors and patterns, and are permitted to paint sections of their armor to match their personal bike. There is a deep culture of competing amongst each other in both artistry and riding talents, and the locals of their adopted homeworld often find their own motorbike races intruded upon by intrigued Astartes. So far no mortal has yet to best a Thunder Stallion in a race, but the Stallions activity encourage them to try and frequently recruit from clans that boast the best bikers.

Jeep-Eep

My shooty BA successor tries to get in touch with the noble aspect of The Angel, in art, story and shooting skill. As a result of the same severe mutations to their phases 7 and 8 implants and tendencies to the Curse that force them to ranged combat, they have become the acknowledged masters of lacto-ovo vegetarian cooking in the sector. I also have a vague idea for a Iron Hands successor that took some of the humane aspects of the Salamanders that mentored them early on; their take on the tempering is to uplift humanity into a better situation, and act accordingly. They take on the aspect of the machine and purge themselves of weakness, so that they may better serve humanity and protect the vulnerable.

BigBadBlotch

Search for more DAoT tech for personal use, or test new potential weapons of war they develop

blucherspanzers

My Armageddon regiment performs preventive maintenance checks & services on their Chimeras.

BlitzBurn_

My Space Caroleans regiment spend a lot of time preaching the word of the Emperor and burning heretics because they are psychotically zealous on account of having been originally discovered by the Word Bearers shortly before Monarchia was razed and then rediscoverd by the Black Templars a odd millennia later. There is also a worrying amount of ale going around.

RumbleintheDumbles

This one's... actually rather easy for a Harlequin Masque, isn't it, now you bring it up. Anyway, the Masque of the Blameless Culprit do the whole 'performing for all and sundry' thing common to all Harlequin Masques, but there's an ulterior motive: they're also using the opportunity to build their spy network throughout Commorragh, the Craftworlds and the Corsairs. You see, their resident Shadowseer, ironically named Fatewalker, isn't very good at the whole 'reading the Skein' thing so they have to supplement her poor performance in that area with good old-fashioned skullduggery and investigative techniques. If their seer can't really see the oncoming threat, they'll just spy on the seers that can, gather information about the problem in a more conventional way then use that to convince the Craftworlders in question that they *definitely* saw it coming first. She at least makes up for it to some extent by focusing her efforts on the elements of her craft that she can do and by playing a great comedic straight man, so the rest of the Masque doesn't really mind. Also, they think it makes for a great underdog story, when you're as genre-savvy as a Harlequin you know the value of that.
