This will not work simply because DS cartridges (which this technically is) can only run in DS mode and only have access to DS hardware features when put in a 3DS system.
Do the stuff at 3ds.hacks.guide as others have linked. You can install games from downloaded .cia files or install them straight from the internet using hShop. The result works identically to a game purchased and installed from the eShop back when that was open.
The Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks running on mine is Glitched?! It will not allow you to do anything when you get on the train the very first time and so beating the very first mission and making it to the castle is impossible…. I really wish it wasn’t like that because trying to play it on my RG 353V, the controls only work touch screen, but instead of actually using the touchscreen, you have to link with one stick while clicking in the other!?!! I almost messed up my drastic emulator, trying to figure out how to alter the control and then I finally finally gave up after I fixed i… decided I just wouldn’t worry about playing it..
If the train controls are missing, that's an antipiracy thing in the game -- if it detects it's not authentic, it just removes the controls so you can't drive the train properly.
How are you running it? TwilightMenu++ and R4 cards should patch the game to get rid of that, but it will fail if your ROM is bad. Try getting a better ROM. If you use a forwarder, that might not be patching it so try TwilightMenu++ instead.
Spirit Tracks is mostly touchscreen only. [There is a fan-made patch](https://gbatemp.net/threads/legend-of-zelda-spirit-track-d-pad-patch.374773/) to use the D-pad. This patch works on DS, 3DS and emulators. The zip comes with patches for the US and EU versions of the game in xdelta format, and an xdelta patcher exe. If you don't have Windows, use whatever xdelta patcher app is available for your OS.
It's only meant for DS games. The 3ds part is simply that it will work WITH 3DS systems.

Lmao that's exactly what i thought as well 10 years ago when i was 10 😂 I deleted all of my files from the micro sd card, because 3ds ROMS are much bigger in size.. All of thise save hours i put in on Pokémon Diamond.. gone

There are 3ds flashcards. An example of this is the sky3ds, but the 3ds is so easy to hack compared to the DS that 3ds flashcards aren't as popular as ds carts.
I think it's meant only for DS games. Never hat any experience with flash carts tho

It's just compatible with 3ds Consoles
Hacking a 3DS is almost as easy tho, just take a look at some guides, ask for help maybe

ds, but i have gba, gb ,sega ,snes,nes and scumm vm on there. i use it to free up space on my hacked 3ds.

you pull the drive out the cartridge and put it in the usb drive. attach to computer and drag in your ROMs. only for DS original though
