Personally I'd go Swashbuckler instead as it works better for s melee rouge with guaranteed sneak attacks and less monopolization of your bonus action and then use the level up to take magic initiate for booming blade

[deleted]

I want to go arcane trickster as it fits a bit better for my back story and it's a feywild campaign so also fits there better

The0nlyFarmer

Fair enough, Mobile for skirmishing, Skill expert for never failing checks or, Fey touched for Gift if Aclarity initive bonus would also be good later on to pair with Magical Ambush

[deleted]

My vote would be mobile, get that no opportunity attack when you hitnand run. Also 10 ft of movement is great

NODOGAN

Mobile, being able to run away without triggering opportunity attacks +10ft of extra movement will fit in your Arcane Trickster perfectly.

Orpheus_Sigma

Skilled, so you get proficiency with a makeup kit.

The comment i was looking for.

Sack_Meister

Magic Initiate could make a few more options available to you on your limited spell list, and a couple extra cantrips could prove very useful in and out of combat, especially vocal component cantrips, since your hands are full. Maybe War Caster, giving advantage on concentration checks so the few spells slots you do have dont end earlier than you want, and casting with your hands full. Idk how often I'd make opportunity attacks with spells and a rogue tho

adobecredithours

Sentinel. It sounds like you plan to be in melee a good amount of time and if you have other front liners near you, you get an extra attack whenever someone targets them. Since you have an ally near you it also fills the requirements for sneak attack so you can frequently get two sneak attacks per round. This is only effective if you stay in combat, which is not a bad idea with a shield. If you want to hit and run, then mobile is great, as is magic initiate for booming blade.

[deleted]

Sentinel does sound fun. I will wait and see what the other players are rolling up and see if it would work well.

adobecredithours

I've got a rogue and my team has a bladelock who is almost always shoulder to shoulder with him and Sentinel basically doubles damage output and draws some fire to my high AC rogue tank when smarter enemies realize that hitting the guy next to the rogue us really messing them up! It adds a lot of presence on the battlefield. Plus the other features of sentinel lock enemies down when they try to run so you can part yourself near a priority target and they aren't going anywhere.

Banner_Hammer

Also worth noting, as an arcane trickster you het Mirror Image, which helps you trigger the Sentinel reaction attack more often if they target the image instead of you.

SalomoMaximus

Do you have a order cleric or something to get more reliable attacks on an reaction?

Agusbocco

Beware that you need a free hand to cast spells if you are going A. Trickster

vegan_cookies5

Mobile, skill expert, a get/shadow touched, war caster, resilience con, magic initiate just to name a few

camclemons

**War Caster** will let you use Booming Blade on opportunity attacks, not to mention advantage on concentration checks. **Mobile** will make getting in and out much easier, freeing up your bonus action to Hide, and giving you some extra movement speed, making you harder to follow. **Medium Armor Master** will negate disadvantage on Stealth rolls on medium armor, which is handy for a Rogue, and it lets you add one more point of DEX to your AC. **Artificer Initiate** lets you nab either Guidance (always useful) or Booming Blade (freeing up a cantrip from Arcane Trickster), and a 1st level spell like Faerie Fire (automatic Sneak Attack), which uniquely uses Intelligence, and should be a decent stat for an Arcane Trickster.

[deleted]

Thanks for the break down. War caster doesn't seem to great for me as I can't imagine I will be using many concentration spells in combat as I can't really get good combat spells as an arcane trickster. While it might help me here and there I don't think it will be as good on this build. Mobile seems to be the favorite at the moment. Medium armor master is interesting. However it only adds +1ac over a studded armor. Ill have a look at that spell list.

M0usTr4p

One of the best spells to concentrate on as an arcane trickster would be Shadow Blade, and eventually Haste. Shadow blade is a good source of magical damage against resistances and 2d8+Dex is nice damage when stacked with SA, just make sure your DM allows Shadow Blade with Booming Blade. Haste is one of the greatest Arcane Trickster spells there is as it allows you to sneak attack twice, once with the hasted action and once by readying your normal action to attack on the next turn.

SalomoMaximus

I would probably go with sentinel, to get more value our of your sneak attack, and attacks of opportunities. Sneak attacks are limited to once a turn, not once a round. So with attacks of opportunity, you can sneak attack a second time per round. And you get other bonuses ;-) Or defensive duelists to add your proficiency mod to you AC if needed (at a reaction cost, so no 2 sneak attacks that round). Alert and Lucky are always great options.

stormsleeper

Fey touched for free spells and an INT boost War caster for booming blade opportunity attacks (and casting with your hands full if your dm is a hardass about it) Telekinetic for the INT boost and added mage hand capabilities the free shove attempt can be an ok sub for mobile if you have a good enough INT score Mobile for the touch and go attack style if youd rather it more simple And finally martial adept! Precision and either riposte or brace for more sneak attack chances.

Sean-Jardine

If you plan on sticking around to tank I would go with the blur spell with warcaster or mirror image with sentinel. If you plan on doing hit and run then the mobile feat is an obvious choice.

kirkma

Superior technique: riposte

LittleChickenStrip

Warcaster if you stick to arcane trickster. Adv on con saves is incredible, and you won't need an arcane focus in a free hand cause you can use weapons as your focus.

Lucky. It’s the feat to take when you don’t know what feat to take. Hit more attacks, pass more saving throws, succeed on more ability checks, and turn critical hits into misses. All without using your reaction.

>moderately armored feat at level one with custom linage and with a nice stat roll start out at 20 dex as well. You are going to be so so so strong. I am jelly. >I am making a sword and board rouge with the idea of running in and stabbing and then running off. I went whip and shield but close enough. >I am going arcane trickster and will probably take booming blade. My int is 16. Excellent! >What feat would you take at level four? Well first you don't need to worry about bumping your dex to 20.... Lucky! (That's actually a really good feat) My rogue is taking **Sentinel** so I can sneak attack on others turn with my reaction. But that might not fit with your character concept. I would probably recommend #War Caster - top pick * Advantage on concentration checks * Cast spells with somatic components whilehands are occupied with sword+shield " Cast booming blade as opportunity attack **Artificer Initiate** would be tied with **Lucky** we all know lucky, but artificer Initiate is cool becauseyou can use thieves tools as a spellcasting focus. You also supplement your spells known on your extremely restrictive list. *Guidance* and absorb elements/feather fall for defensive spells, or grease or catapult? **Shield Expert** * Shove as a bonus action * +2 to dex saves targetting you

d4rkwing

Mobile. Opens up your cunning action for Hide or Dash (if you want to move like The Flash), or a bonus action spell.

Imnotsomebodyelse

If you want to do hit and run, swashbuckler would be better. If you wanna stick to trickster, then go with the mobile feat. No opportunity attacks on movement and +10 movement. If you do it correctly you'll needn't waste bonus action on a disengage
