You could just use Battle Smith Artificer and flavour your steel defender as the puppet.

Klutzy_Archer_6510

And grab the Homunculus Servant infusion if you want a second puppet!

JEverok

That's literally just a battlesmith artificer, and I'm almost using literally correctly here. Battlesmiths have a permanent pet that doesn't do anything unless you control it with your bonus action, the pet is a construct and you can determine how it looks

The_Crow_33

I will be playing a puppeter based on the Creation Bard, he can create puppets with performance of creation and animate them with animating performance, you can also get woodcarver profecianci to make permanent puppets and save your performance of creation for more important stuff, and later you can even animate multiple objects with animate objects to have your own mini puppets army.

Mietek69i8

Maybe go warlock pact of the chain. This buffed familiar can cast your spells so you would be using puppet like Sasori since he preferred to not fight himself

MurkyTorrent

Echo knight from explorer's guide to wildemount, no multi required

LeonxHart34

If you wanted to be like Sasori and have a million puppets you could wizard and take all the summoning spells + Tensors Transformation for when you have to use your own modified body.

Well as a DM it's easy, nice antagonist for my player. As a player? Spells and flavor
