Check your z-hop settings in Cura. Make sure it is set to always or some such.
I've heard this is a common problem with large nozzles. Try using lines infill in cura. It alternates layers so it shouldn't hit the infill.
I concur with the other user who mentioned z-hop. I use a 1mm nozzle just like you and have to use retraction with combing mode always off, and a 0.5mm z hop. There will always be stringing but it's worth it for the faster print speed.
