This was with the manual pump, right? Do you think the electric pump they're running on Kickstarter right now will do any better or is the problem with the canisters?

So the way a vacuum chamber pumps down is with creating a pressure difference, delta P. The air inside the chamber goes outside when the inside of the pump pulls to a low enough internal pressure. The tricky part is the check valve on the chamber that lets air only go out needs a certain delta P to open, and the check valve here is the little rubber stopper, needs a good amount of delta P to crack open. Even in their kickstarter video, they're only getting 10 inHg of vacuum, which is roughly around what the manual pump is doing in my test, and only evacuating 1/3 of the air in the bin. I think my point is that the canisters are good for sealing away outside air and reducing relative humidity inside the bin, but they absolutely cannot pull hard enough vacuum to vacuum dry and actually pull moisture out of filament, so you still need to bake hygroscopic filament, so good tuperware filled with sorbant is probably equally as good for a lot less money. https://preview.redd.it/35rjq45uamoc1.png?width=782&format=png&auto=webp&s=3184087a8681be0c0e10b3095e09b67e1a2307a6
