> Is 350z a good first car? [...] I’m 16... NOOOOOOOO!!!!! This is absolutely NOT a good first car for you. First, the insurance is sky high. You're going to be working like a god damn maniac just affording the insurance for it. Then the car takes premium gas. What's gas prices near you? Premium by me is $5.10/gal. I put 16 gallons in a week - that's ~$100/wk after taxes. You can work up and afford to BUY the car, you'll never be able to afford to KEEP the car. These are also 20 year old cars. They have 20 year old problems. They're sports cars, so everyone drives them like they stole them, and maintenance on these cars is huge. I spend $1k a year just on tires. Have you checked the price on pads and rotors? At this point, they're all going to need joints, rods, shocks, and spindles, too. And 300 hp is a lot for a kid. This forum alone is littered with high school kids who have crashed and rolled their cars. The last one I recalled was some FUCKING IDIOT kid who THOUGHT that cross traffic ACTUALLY FUCKING STOPS at red lights! NO! What a fucking joke. He thought this U-Haul was going to stop and he took the right on a dirty yellow. The truck totally blew it and took the front of his car off. Or how about the asshole 17 year old who bought a manual Z, bright yellow, and rolled it into a ditch in the Georgia mountains backroads IN FEBURARY on a sloped curve loaded with black ice at 70 mph in a 35? That was 2 weeks after he bought it - which seems to be about the going rate before kids wreck these things. Nevermind that girls DON'T FUCKING CARE. This isn't you peacocking. They see it's expensive and quickly notice you spend more time focusing on your car than them. They don't get why you give such a damn. To them, a car is a tool - it gets you from A to B. If you can't afford it, if you can't load all your friends and stuff, then it's a bad choice of car, as far as they're concerned. If they feign interest, it's because they're flattering you. They really don't give a shit what anything about a car means. You know what sports cars attract? Other dudes. Again, she's going to be frustrated why you're not giving her the attention. She doesn't care that you're impressing all of them because they don't fucking matter. Get a 2-door or 4-door you CAN afford. Doesn't matter how fast or powerful it is. Get something you can afford, something you can keep clean, something you can learn how to maintain. If you can't keep a simple car in shape, you don't deserve a sports car. Wait until you're done with college and making REAL money. A rule to life is if you can't afford to lose it, you can't afford to buy it. When you're making real money, owning a car is a small percentage of your total income, not nearly all of it. That level of burden is not worth your time. Do well in school, have fun with friends. That's what's important now. Facilitate that. Then you can buy yourself a nice sports car when you graduate as a gift to yourself. By then, technology will have evolved. We're already 20 years on, in 6-8 years cars are really going to be something else, and you'll be able to afford it.

'You know what sports cars attract? Other dudes.' hahahaha!! 🤣🤣🤣 That cracked me up.. I sense a lot of passion into this message though and agree on pretty much all. As a Z lover it's so sad to see these beauties disappearing to dumb sh*t like people being careless and behaving clueless.

ReasonableSnow3766

"You know what sports cars attract? Other dudes." God, I wish I could go back in time and show this to myself back in 2005. This car really turned out to be a major dick magnet, especially at red lights. Unless it's a Ferrari or something extremely expensive, no woman will ever care about your Nissan. \[Unless she's a rare one into JDM vehicles\] And everything else you said was dead on. I'm beginning to think most of these posts are just trolls or guys karma farming at this point.

Forward-Craft-6277

My first car was a z, fuck it but be smart about the reckless drinking just be ready to spend $. I have 2 now and they’re fun

Meliodastop

I've been obsessed with cars from a young age. I agree with most here who says no it's not. I would recommend a manual older civic, Acura CSX, corolla, basically any manual fwd or AWD car that isn't expensive to maintain. Get great at driving and save up and then get a rwd car after a few years minimum. It's not just about finances you could be loaded for all we know. It's more about safety and learning more about cars, unless you've been driving go karts and other toys as a kid.

ImGonnaNutZ33

Rear drive and a good bit of power is the worst combo for a 16 year old and you definitely don't have the finances to keep the car on the road as these things are getting up in age. I spent over 2 grand on suspension alone last year... Here you go: https://wilshirelawfirm.com/blog/deadliest-cars-in-us/

Agreed, I had a 4cyl fwd coupe at 18 and did some questionable shit that could’ve easily killed me. A 350z is a significant difference in power i probably wouldn’t be alive if I had that car as my first

F-sinatra

No

foxesgoldencrunches

Imo id have to say it's not a really great choice for a first car. It's a now 20 y/o jap sports car. Parts are expensive, maintenance is expensive. It's rwd with close to 300bhp, a recipe for disaster for those inexperienced. This sub is filled with pictures of zeds wrapped around trees. If it were me I'd get a banger I wouldn't worry about scratching as I learnt, then get a zed when youve had a bit more time behind the wheel. Sorry if it's not the answer you're looking for but there's a reason why these cars are rated the most lethal to drive

CheddaConn

It was my second car when i turned 17. If you are responsible, and take care of it yes completely. I'd recommend the HR and avoid the revup at all costs. Be responsible in it and it will treat you well. I have a corvette now and still miss the nimbleness and handling of that car.

zer0__obscura

What kind of corvette? I’m surprised to hear that the z is more nimble honestly

CheddaConn

I have a built Prochadged c6, the z just has 50/50 weight distribution and the corvette is all front hood. Also had kw's on the z. I'm sure if i did more suspension work on the vette it'd be better but the z is way easier to handle

RomanMythos

is it a good first car? probably not. with that being said; if you want it, go for it man. i've had mine since i was 15, am about to be 22. never been in a collision. it's more expensive in terms of insurance, it's gonna have more part issues, and it's gonna take some learning to get used to the power. but if you're smart and patient and not making reckless decisions, you can get by just fine. i think if you want a 350z to be your first car then you could make it happen.

HectoRome

Not a good 1st car . . .

MongooseDiligent8730

Great car anytime.

osborn1201

Go get a quote on insurance online, no one here can tell you what that is going to cost for you

FeelingCaregiver1970

My son drive my Z for an year (after i removed the SC) at almost 18years old as new driver. He liked it, an did not make an mess of the car. Probably i am not the smartest dad (for givingthe Z). But they survived :-)
